Update on "Mahotsukai Pretty Cure! 2"/the adult MahoPre sequel
It has been over a year since Toei announced they were planning an adult sequel to Mahoutsukai Pretty Cure!, the 13th PreCure season that aired from 2016-2017, yet no real information on it has been released since. All we know is that it will air "in 2024" on the late-night ANiMAZiNG!!! program block.
Despite this, two recent bits of indirect information seem to paint a specific timeframe of when the anime will actually air.
To start off, we now know the full 2024 schedule for ANiMAZiNG!!!, with the Summer program recently announced:
The Strongest Tank's Labyrinth Raids — Jan 7 - Mar 24 (Winter 2024)
Tonari no Yokai-san — Apr 7 - TBA (Spring 2024)
Iwa-Kakeru! Climbing Girls — Jul 6 - TBA (Summer 2024) (Rerun, originally aired Fall 2020)
The Healer Who was Banished From His Party is Actually the Strongest — Starts Oct (Fall 2024)
This means that MahoPre2 will not be airing this year, which makes it odd that it still has a tentative 2024 release date, right? Not exactly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
According to Toei Animation's recent financial report, for the fiscal year ending on March 2024, they still list MahoPre2 as in production for "2024." More specifically, they list it as coming out at some point after the second quarter of the 2024 fiscal year.
In Japan, for government bureaucracies and corporations, a fiscal year lasts from April to March of the following year. For example, the 2023 fiscal year just ended this past March, hence the recent financial report. The 2024 financial year will last from April 2024 to March 2025.
The second quarter of FY2024 ends in September of this year, meaning MahoPre2 will air at some point from October onwards. (Note that Dragon Ball DAIMA, another animated project under Toei, is also listed in the same category, and was announced with a set release date of Fall 2024.)
Given that we know the entire ANiMAZiNG!!! schedule for this year has been filled, it seems very likely that MahoPre2 will air starting in January 2025; that is, the Winter 2025 season. If it airs for just 12-13 episodes like OtonaPre did, that would still put it within the range of FY2024, ending just at the March 2025 deadline.
What seems likely then is that, if it's to be believed that the MahoPre girls will appear in the upcoming WonPre film coming this September, it will act as a bit of promotion for the upcoming MahoPre2 sequel coming out early next year. It makes sense as to why Toei has been quiet on the anime, as the main promotion cycle isn't meant to start until sometime this Summer.

Tomonari Sora - コーヒー (Coffee) - Lyrics

In this room temperature cup, all that remains is anguish because you aren’t in the seat next to mine
When we first met, I was still too young for my own good and kept endlessly refilling my cup
All the places I wanted to take you and things I wanted to say to you are welling up in me, after all this time But sadly I can’t go back and fix those days long past
Saying “I love you,” saying “I’m okay,” and the type of coffee you actually hated - bitter yet gentle, all the lies you made for me that I wish I hadn’t noticed
Into this emptied cup I pour nothing but memories as I pretend to act more like an adult
I blocked out all my memories of the time I’ve spent with you even though there’s not a single one I want to forget
All the places I wanted to take you and things I wanted to say to you - I realized that's how I showed I cared Those days long past become ever brighter as time goes on
Saying “I love you,” saying “I’m okay,” and the type of coffee I actually hated - too hot to touch, all the lies I made for you and had hoped you wouldn’t notice
You’re probably with someone else at a table drinking coffee without me again If I had you, I shouldn’t need to lie…
Saying “I love you,” saying “I’m okay,” and the coffee you couldn’t pour for me - it’s still fresh in my mind If this is all part of a dream, don’t make me wake up
Saying “I love you,” saying “I’m okay,” and the type of coffee you actually hated - bitter yet gentle, all the lies you made for me that I wish I hadn’t noticed
In this room temperature cup, all that remains is anguish because you aren’t in the seat next to mine

so i just finished Watching Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san, and here is my review TL:DR; 9/10 wholesome yet realistic take on a modern vampire, and a healthy relationship with one, one that doesn't become romantic nor sexual. spoilers beyond this point so the story stars Akari and Sophie, Akari is in highschool when she investigates the legends of a doll mansion, she loves dolls, and while exploring she loses her way only to be found by the vampire Sophie, Sophie lets the human Akari stay for the night at her mansion, eventually Akari moves in because she thinks Sophie is lonely. not only does this story have excelent jokes about vampire sterotypes, but also has excelent drama shown in only 12 episodes. one thing i like is the relationship between Akari and Sophie, or rather the lack of it, sophie looks to be the same age as Akari, if a bit younger, yet is actually 360 years old, as such she refuses any and all advances that Akari makes, and she makes a lot, she refuses to feed off of Akari because it could pose a risk to her if she was fed from to much, and she indulges Akari's eccentricy. its shown that at the begining Sophie thinks Akari is annoying, but grows to a true friendship where both member truely care for one another. there is a one off joke in the halloween episode, in which Akari dresses as a vampire, where Sophie fusses over Akari while in costume, and freaks out thinking she actually got turned by another vampire, this shows that she views vampirism as a curse and cares too much about Akari to let her become someone like her, especially at a younger age. a continuing theme that runs throughout the show is that vampirism sucks if younger and sucks if your older, there is a small window of time where you are in your prime and that's when you should be turned if ever at all. Sophie's sister was the one to turn sophie's entire family into vampires and while she was turned in her twenties, Sophie was turned when she was 14-16 (i cant tell) and sophie's youngest sister was turned while 8 years old, her parents where turned in their 40s-50s and they are shown complaining about what time they were turned. in the show another vampire hates being seen so young and as such hates how she looks, this isn't shown much as she is often seen brash, without care, and very presenting to say the least, which i would like to say despite the very old characters in the body of a child trope i counted three scenes that could be uncomfortable, one is a bath scene with nothing shown, and the other is the Halloween episode where another vampire, who looks younger around 10-11 wares a succubus outfit for Halloween. and the final is a one off joke at the beginning of an episode, where two human characters ware a two piece bikini, this scene basically just has the message that beaches are a vampires worst nightmare.
so throughout the entire show, Sophie is shown to care for Akari, in a way that may seem romantic if you just looked at their appearance, but seems almost like a caretaker when acknowledging their age gap. as for another vampire that shows up. she was younger when turned, but despite this is actually older than Sophie (Sophie is revealed to be 360 and other vampire is revealed to be 450+), and attempts to act more adult mainly because of, as i said above, her self worth issues, backfiring and she ends up seeming more childish. in conclusion the ending has Sophie and Akari staying very good friends, and that's a thematic and very satisfying ending. i know of too many shows that if they did this show would have Akari and sophie dating for the ending, but that would have been the bad ending. additional notes, i love how they have a modern vampire, thanks to technology, just be a introvert who doesn't really leave her house.
FINAL RATING 6/10 visual 8/10 story & plot 5/10 character design 7/10 side characters 10/10 ending TOTAL 36/50

My neighbor totoro
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However this movie spends an hour on children and then realizes something needs to happen as for the story to have some sort of tension by the point where you'd have ingrained the target audience into your brain and know everything's gonna be alright. Quite frankly, there's a lot of things intended for kids that are sweet, innocent and whatnot and have a point in their story, even if simple and meant for children to understand and teach them good values. Yes, and why would I watch something solely meant to display that. What do you mean "so what?", that's the point of the movie? The movie piles on a lot and a lot of scenes together for artistic value and to continuously display how innocent a child is. Why? Because it is mostly comprised of the children fucking around and showing off how well designed everything is, as well as put focus on what they're trying to display in the movie. Yes, despite the amazingly looking visuals that occasionally made me so impressed I forgot all about how bored I was for a short while and despite being 100% on board with what the movie has displayed, I still was bored. To the point where adults can watch it to feel like a kid again and children can watch it to be amazed by the movie's world.īut here's where my praise stops and my gripes with the movie starts. But I have to add, since its audience seemed to have been children, it has build an impressive world with imaginative designs in a realistic looking manner. But the reason it also has to be captivating it is because it's trying to display the innocence of children, which is the artistic goal of the movie. And I assure this was artstyle was very impressive if it still is today back then. Yeah, sure, anything has to be captivating, but in this situation, you have to keep in mind, the audience was intended to be children. You see there's a point to the art actually being this well animated and that is that its goal is to be as captivating as anything can be.
Tumblr media
Anyway, up next I'm gonna talk about, more of the art, and rather, its significance in this movie. Ok, now the movie so far was 10/10 children cry real. The range of emotions displayed in a few frames was done as right as anyone could ever do them and I can't imagine someone outdoing this kid. It may seem a ridiculous thing to pick out the level of detail for animation, but that's what I found most impressive. All down to the point of starting to cry silently because she was upset then up to the outburst of emotion, screaming and bawling as soon as she was given attention again the way children do when they are given attention in these situations. However, in Totoro, when the child started crying I could see the range of emotions she went through and react realistically, the same way any child of that age would. Most people don't even put any effort into the way they display someone crying and see it as something simple and easy to portray. However, watching a child cry in this made me realize something. Have you ever seen someone cry in an anime? I will assume that most of the time, depending on what you watch of course, crying doesn't rise any red flags. As an example there will be some scenes with children crying.
Tumblr media
The animation has plenty of small details throw in that makes each frame look lively and realistic. While the obligatory "for its time, it looks incredible" compliment must be said, I'll do one more and say that for our time, I wish people would pay as much attention to detail in animation as was done in Tonari no Totoro and would look at least half as good. Starting with the movie's strong suits, the artistic side of it is outstanding. So all I can present is what factored into my experience only a 5 with what the movie has had done and has not done. Tried to do because it was succesful in what it did. In this case, I don't have a lot to criticize on what the movie actually I usually prefer to criticize a show for what it tried to be but failed while presenting every factor I deemed important about the movie and why eventually it was only an average experience for me. Before the "what the fuck is wrong with you, a 5 on a ghibli movie, kill yourself" settles in, I want to assure you that the movie did everything that it set out to be outstandingly and if I was from that target audience, I would probably consider it nothing short of a masterpiece.

Heya friends.  Here’s another translation.  This time it’s for Love Reservation ~I’ll Reserve you in Advance~ which makes its first appearance in episode 5.  The English/Romaji lyrics are as follows:
Love Reservation ~I’ll Reserve You in Advance~
Though I exhibit purity, I’m a sniper when it comes to seduction
Though I pretend to not care, my heart’s actually full of love
I’ll follow the line to you until I get to security
I know I shouldn’t, but I want to sneak backstage
Be careful not to have too much!  Koidama Cholesterol
But I don’t want to stop yet; more thrills are yet to come
Ah I’ll reserve you in advance
Since I came here first, do me a favor and give me a kiss!
Should I go on a shopping spree to buy adult love?
I’ll definitely meet you there, so wait for me
It looks like it will storm tonight, I have to fight against it
I got guidance from a line that won’t connect
Who the hell are you talking to?  Is it the same person as before?
You have an expression that seems beyond irritated
Polyphenol stings my weakened heart
It’s way too early to give up
Ah a special seat next to you
If I sit there, give me a kiss as a reward!
Should I buy a dozen sweets as an incentive?
I’ll meet you soon, so leave that space open
Ah I’ll reserve you in advance
Since I came here first, do me a favor and give me a kiss!
Should I go on a shopping spree to buy adult love?
I’ll definitely meet you there...
Ah a special seat next to you
If I sit there, give me a kiss as a reward!
I’ll let you take all of me
I’ll meet you soon, so leave that space open

Anime i’ve Watched
That begin with a T (Part 2)!
Yep this is how i’m going to bring over all the anime and manga i’ve watched and posted about on the old blog. It’s not so detailed but it will have to do. Anything new I watch or read from this point on will have their own posts.
Tokyo Ghoul:
Genres: Action, Mystery, Horror, Psychological, Supernatural, Drama, Seinen
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Tokyo has become a cruel and merciless city—a place where vicious creatures called “ghouls” exist alongside humans. The citizens of this once great metropolis live in constant fear of these bloodthirsty savages and their thirst for human flesh. However, the greatest threat these ghouls pose is their dangerous ability to masquerade as humans and blend in with society. Based on the best-selling supernatural horror manga by Sui Ishida, Tokyo Ghoul follows Ken Kaneki, a shy, bookish college student, who is instantly drawn to Rize Kamishiro, an avid reader like himself. However, Rize is not exactly who she seems, and this unfortunate meeting pushes Kaneki into the dark depths of the ghouls' inhuman world. In a twist of fate, Kaneki is saved by the enigmatic waitress Touka Kirishima, and thus begins his new, secret life as a half-ghoul/half-human who must find a way to integrate into both societies. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 6.5/10
Finished airing in 2014 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: Loved the Manga... did not love the anime. Could not explain to you why now that it has been so long since i’ve watched this... Amazing opening theme though!!
Tokyo Ghoul √A :
Genres: Action, Mystery, Horror, Psychological, Supernatural, Seinen, Drama
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Ken Kaneki has finally come to accept the monstrous, flesh-craving part of himself that he has feared and despised for so long. After escaping captivity and torture, Kaneki joins Aogiri Tree—the very militant ghoul organization that had abducted him, leading his friends to question his true motive and loyalty. As tension between the government and the ghouls continues to rise, the Commission of Counter Ghoul, the government's specialized anti-ghoul agency, has intensified their efforts to completely purge Tokyo of ghouls. This threatens the transient peace of Kaneki's friends and former comrades—the ghouls at the Anteiku coffee shop. Aware of the dangerous situation, Kaneki faces several battles that puts his precious fleeting humanity on the line. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 3/10
Finished airing in  2015 with a total of 12 episodes.
My Thoughts: I liked this one even less than the first. You be the judge of what interests you though. Don’t let me stop you from watching something! Highly suggest reading the manga!!
Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro):
Genres: Film, Adventure, Comedy, Supernatural
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  In 1950s Japan, Tatsuo Kusakabe relocates himself and his two daughters, Satsuki and Mei, to the countryside to be closer to their mother, who is hospitalized due to long-term illness. As the girls grow acquainted with rural life, Mei encounters a small, bunny-like creature in the yard one day. Chasing it into the forest, she finds "Totoro"—a giant, mystical forest spirit whom she soon befriends. Before long, Satsuki too meets Totoro, and the two girls suddenly find their lives filled with magical adventures in nature and fantastical creatures of the woods. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 8/10
A film released in 1988.
My Thoughts: My least favourite Ghibli film, though many peoples favorite. As with all films i’d say it’s worth at least a single watch!
Tsurezure Children:
Genres: Comedy, Romance, School, Shounen, TV Short
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  Young love—it takes many unique and fascinating forms that flourish as children begin to mature into adults. From being unable to confess to not knowing what real love actually feels like, various obstacles can arise when learning about romantic attraction for the first time. But underneath all that, young love is something truly beautiful to behold, leading to brand new experiences for those young and in love. Tsurezure Children depicts various scenarios of young love coming to fruition, along with the struggles and joys that it entails. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2017 with a total of 12, 12 minute long episodes.
My Thoughts: An enjoyable little series with a just as enjoyable manga! Check them both out if you’re interested!!
Tsurune: Kazemai Koukou Kyuudoubu:
Genres: Sports, Drama, School
Tumblr media
Synopsis:  "Tsurune"—It's the sound made by the bowstring when an arrow is released, and the sound that inspired Minato Narumiya to learn Kyuudo, a modern Japanese martial art focusing on archery. However, an incident during his last middle school tournament caused him to quit the sport. But soon, many factors conspire to make Minato take up the bow once again: the start of a new Kyuudo club in his high school, a chance encounter with a mysterious archer, and the support of his childhood friends, Seiya Takehaya and Ryouhei Yamanouchi. Together with his childhood friends and his new teammates, Kaito Onogi and Nanao Kisaragi, Minato rekindles his love for Kyuudo and works with his team toward their aim of winning the prefectural tournament. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Tumblr media
My Rating: 9/10
Finished airing in 2019 with a total of 13 episodes.
My Thoughts: Pretty dudes, sports and friendship! Not as life changing as something like Haikyuu!! but enjoyable all the same. I have the hots for Masaki... pretty sure everyone does.

Miyo’s Anime of Note 2018 Rainbow Edition
2018 was some kind of a year wasn't it? It was long and a pain in the ass but there was some anime out this year I really enjoyed. I'm here to write down a bunch of shows I enjoyed in no particular order. I might put them in the order I watched them in, or I might not. I guess we'll see huh?
Also, I think there's WAY more this year than usual which means I either like things easily, there were a lot of good shows, all of the above or some other reason. Hope I don't get too long winded on you! Also I'm using whatever names I feel like for naming things off, translated, still Japanese...whaaatever~
Tumblr media
Pop Team Epic
Pop Team Epic was everything I wanted it to be and more. I've been a fan of Bkub's work since the early days so to see these two shitty girls finally show up on the anime screen week to week was a pleasure and a delight. The decision to make two separate half episodes with different voice actors for Popuko and Pipimi was a wonderful decision that let us experience things like Aoi Yuki as Popuko and Norio Wakamoto as Pipimi. It also shot the wonderful team of ACBU into the spotlight. Their Bobunemimimmi segments were so disgustingly perfect and fit the tone of the show perfectly. It also gave us one of the best moments in anime this year:
Needless to say, I really hope they are doing a season 2 like it's been rumored. I'm on board for SO much more.
Tumblr media
Yuru Camp
This was a show I actually watched twice this year and have subsequently watched multiple episodes just on my own. It is one of my favorite things this year and maybe it's just because of how unassuming it is. There's honestly nothing deep to the show. Cute girls dress in warm winter clothing and go camping. However, the way everything is paced with nice warm colors and chill ass music nestles its way into your heart and fills you with a nice cozy feeling. It's like a blanket, the anime. Just wrap yourself up in the wonderful friend times and maybe you'll learn a thing or two about camping and friendship along the way.
Tumblr media
Mitsuboshi Colors
Are adults letting you down? Sure, they're not up to the challenge pretty much all the time. But that's why you should just stay out of the way and let Colors come in to save the day! This trio of girls are ready to save their town and to let shitty cops know what's up. Seriously, it's a cute show with a cute group of friends getting into big adventures, even if those adventures are often due to their own misconceptions. It's a good show with kids who act like kids and are always either talking about poop or are sucking at video games. It's a nice show and has some good performances, as well as the best sunglasses of 2018 in my book.
Tumblr media
Karakai no Jouzu Takagi-san
A series about a boy and a girl who are totally crushing on each other, even if one likes to keep it deeply hidden and the other would never admit it really. Oh, also she owns him every chance she can get with teasing. It's like a reverse Tonari no Seki-kun if Seki was not in his own world and was actively trying to make Rumi blush or stumble over herself. This premise may sound mean but it's honestly all in good fun and there's something really cute about the pair's friendship with each other. The way the manga apparently goes makes me really want to check it out sometime too.
Tumblr media
Oh also there's a great side trio of friends with and I love how dumb of a baby one of them is.
Tumblr media
Hinamatsuri
What happens when a yakuza becomes the dad of a psychic girl who crashed in an egg in his apartment and broke all his vases? This series! Hinamatsuri was a show that got me really hard this year at a couple points where I know I had to either fight back tears or take a few minutes to sit their with a quivering lip and watery eyes. It's an incredibly funny show from  the premise alone but when you have the put upon character of Nitta having to take care of the force of nature that is Hina it just escalates it. On top of that though, there's a good heart to it as well. Anzu is a wonderful character and I love her story and her many grandpas. Also Hitomi's story actively hit me hard to where I felt bad for a fictional child to please just be a child for a little while. It was powerful stuff and I loved it.
Tumblr media
Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online
I hate Sword Art Online. I've only watched the first series with the original and faerie times, but I hated it so much. That being said, hearing that the new one was actually good made me seek it out and...thank God it is. Llenn/Karen is just a much more compelling character than the power fantasy that is Kirito. The story of a woman who does not like herself in the real world, but finds a new home and life in virtual reality is a nice little story. On top of that, ditching the stupid "if you die in the game, you die in real life" really helped the show out in my eyes. This show is not about stop some huge over arcing villainous plot to fuck over the whole world or whatever. GGO is about trying to save someone from hurting themselves and honestly, that's a lot more relatable. A recap episode in this day in age IS silly though for what it's worth.
Let's take a short break shall we? For a little section I'm gonna call, Fuck, You Let me Down Man.
Tumblr media
Amanchu Advance
I put Amanchu on my list two years ago of Anime of Note because I really enjoyed the tale of friendship it told. Amanchu Advance continues that story and shows Teko slowly becoming more of her own person thanks to that friendship. She wants to become a stronger person, a better version of herself and it's through her friends she's able to do this. The series is still very good at showing these moments but the last few episodes of the show are bogged down in a weird supernatural plot with a ghost boy that I wish they would have just tossed down the shrine steps. The twist at the end with it was not worth sidetracking the story for three episodes in a 12 episode story and soured my experience as a whole. I've been told the author likes doing these sorts of things and I didn't mind the lucid dreaming episodes, but this bit just did not land for me and it's a big bummer.
Here's Another Side Category Called Old Anime I Watched And Enjoyed. Yes, that's the full title.
Tumblr media
G Gundam
I don't know why it took me so long to watch this series, but I am glad I did. Maybe I just needed friends to be there to watch it with, who knows. Either way, I'm thankful I got to join Domon on his journey searching for the man in the photograph and to experience the Undefeated of the East in his most powerful form. G Gundam is a goofy setting with a bunch of weird but fun characters and their even weirder mobile suits. I don't know how much I can really say on it since I'm sure most people have probably checked it out years ago on Toonami. It's still fun and good and it has a Gundam who is a boxer and a football man at the same time. Gundam Fight, Readdddddy....GO!
Back to my normal list, though I have grouped the next couple shows in a block I am calling the "I wish these had a full 24 episodes even though I understand why they didn't but please make more I'd love it, ok thanks" block.
Tumblr media
A Place Further Than The Universe
This show had...a lot of moments where I was sitting there and just processing all that was going on. A group of girls become friends and join a civilian expedition to Antarctica, one of whom is going there to basically go where her mother had spoken of years ago and never came back. It's a show that I felt compelled to keep watching even though I knew I should have stopped for the night, telling myself "I can watch one more episode..." . It just gripped me and sank its penguin fangs into me. Shut up, I know what I said. Seriously though, the cast of secondary characters are just as fun as the main ones and I enjoyed every minute of it. It definitely destroyed me in one of the more heavy moments near the end though so keep a box of tissues handy ok?
Tumblr media
Wotakoi
Love is hard for otaku. It's in the show's translated title and everything. Let me tell you, I'm very happy seeing so many anime featuring adults in the work place these days. Wotakoi is a show I felt a very personal connection to, especially its humor levels. Not going to lie,  I am a Kabakura through and through when it comes to my anime watching and purchasing habits. It's a cute love story with a couple of characters getting together out of convenience before realizing maybe there's something more than that to it. The interactions are great and it's very relatable if you've ever had a friends' game night or anime watching session. It's a show that just feels like it knows just how to speak to you if you've been a fan of anime for a long time.
Tumblr media
Hisone to Masotan
Hey, you into dragon vore? Then have I got the show for you buddy. All joking aside, Hisomaso is a show with one of the more fun protagonists I've run into in a while. Hisone's blunt and to the point to the detriment of anything that comes out of her mouth most of the time, but there's something about her honesty that's very endearing. The show's pilots are a great cast and their dragon friends are just as charismatic even if they spend a lot of the time cosplaying as aircraft. This show has a nice story about trying to find just where you fit in within the world and sometimes that's hard. Sometimes the best thing to do is dive into the gullet of a big scaly F-15 and ride the free skies to your heart's content. I love you Masotan.
Tumblr media
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight
This show I think more than any others in this block I wanted more of, even though I know why I don't have more of it. From episode one, I got Utena vibes with the music, the auditions, Hell, even the prefight wardrobe transformations. Stage girls do battle with all of their shine to prove who is truly the top star. That's the basic premise and the cast of characters really helps to flesh it out with their own motivations of what makes them keep going to be the very best they can be. I loved all of the imagery in the auditions and the music and the big doofy giraffe just watching from the stands and enjoying the whole thing. Revue Starlight is a stylish show with some amazing animation and choreography that puts most of the things I watched this year to shame and I need more things like it.
STOP IT'S PRECURE TIME
Tumblr media
Go Princess Precure
This is me and Cheapsteak's "old Precure" of the year and it's wonderful. It's a story about dreams and fighting for them. The Princess Precures are maybe not the most relatable of characters as they attend a very prim and proper high class school. One is a business conglomerate's daughter, one's a super model, one's a Princess from another plane entirely. But there is something wonderful how they all work together as friends and work to save everyone's dreams, I don't know there's something very good and wonderful about that. I love that even when it comes to one of the villains, a character in the show goes out of her way to help him with his self esteem (and make up). I don't know, I've got a few episodes left but I just love it. Haruka is my favorite Pink Precure I've met so far and she is gonna be tough to beat.
Tumblr media
Hugtto Precure
Very similar to Go Princess is Hugtto, with its message of hope for the future because you can't just stay in the present. There's a great cast of characters and they all work so hard to cheer each others' dreams on, all while taking care of a baby and a hamster from the future. I think this show also has the best mid-seasons Cures I've met so far and just...everything with how supportive and good everyone is to each other has me smiling the whole time. Also in the episodes leading up to the anniversary movie this year, we got some of the best big moments I've seen in a show in a while. A lot of the episodes have some amazing animation work as well and just...I like this show a lot especially what it did to show Hana's pre-show back story as well. Pink Cures are really good huh?
Back to business!
Tumblr media
Asobi Asobase
Along with PTE, this was one of the weirder comedies that I watched this year. It's often crass or just outright weird, but that's one of its strong points I think. The show's opening is a giant fakeout from what seems like your ordinary "cute girls doing club things" chill show because you're soon hit with some of the weirdest faces and shrieks that I've run into in a while. The characters are a troublesome group of weirdoes who try to do activities like a normal club but fail horribly at it, often due to one or more of them sabotaging it with their own dumbness. It really says something that the sweetest and most relatable characters are the witch girls who practice curses all day. They're really the best though but so are all of the fucking weirdoes in this show. Also there's ass lasers so if you're into that...
Tumblr media
Cells at Work
Learn about the human body while dangerous viruses and germs get fucking iced like they walked into the wrong anime. Follow a red blood cell make her way through the blood stream and lose her way every single time. Thrill at the amazingly adorable platelet crew as they get to work each day. Cells at Work is a weird science shounen show with some great character designs and interactions. The way the cells just are working hard and doing their jobs as best they can is great and you want to root for them so hard. Those Killer T and White blood cells and Macrophages just love killing SO much. It's a fun show that teaches you about biology and anatomy in a somewhat rudimentary but enjoyable manner.
Tumblr media
Plus I will stress again, the platelet design is beyond cute.
Tumblr media
Skullface Book Seller Honda-san
Honda-san is a cute little series you could watch in an afternoon due to its episode count and length, but it's one I could see myself watching multiple times easily. It's a fun window into the window of book store retail and the Japanese publishing industry. The characters have fun designs, mostly normal bodies with some kind of weird mask/helmet on but they're very relatable. Honda-san does his best to help out the customers, even when their requests tear at his very sanity some times. But that's retail huh? It's fun though, go check out this good skeleton!
Tumblr media
Bloom Into You
I think this was the show that intrigued me the most this year because I was just hooked on the relationship between Yuu and Touko and seeing how it advanced. Yuu is a girl who wants to be able to fall in love like everyone else her age seems to be able to and when she finally meets a girl who she thinks feels similarly...that darn senpai falls in love with her. It's a very relatable tale even if you haven't been in a lot of relationships. Seeing Yuu realize her own feelings slowly grow towards Touko and the issues that come up because of was something that had me wanting to find out more each week. It also was the show that took me the longest to come to my final thoughts on too due to its ending but ultimately, I'm glad I watched it.
Tumblr media
Zombieland Saga
Honestly, I'm glad to start and end this list with certifiable bangers. The concept of zombies becoming idols sounds like it could just go so wrong but it doesn't. It's so good and fun and goofy. The characters are all really fun and goofy but still have depth to them, even zombie brained legend Yamada Tae. I love this show and every character in it and if there were Franchouchou concerts done like a Hatsune Miku tour, I'd go so hard. Zombieland Saga is a good and powerful show and it even has a good ending with a sequel hook. Watch these girls and cheer them on, that is an order.
I normally do a "Shows I'll Watch Next Year" section but I realize I never end up doing it so I'm just going to add one of my current ones I know I'll continue watching.
Tumblr media
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Golden Wind
Come on, you knew this was going to be on here right? I'm curious where this gangster plot line is going and can't wait to continue next year.
So that's my list, I hope you enjoyed it. For a special treat to go into 2019, I leave you with the best moment in anime 2018. Peace!
Ah well I got copyright striked so here’s a mirror

Manga the Week of 7/28/21
SEAN: The end of July should be quiet, right? Everyone’s on vacation, right? Right?
ASH: I actually will be on (a very much needed) vacation!
ANNA: Me too!
SEAN: Airship has the print edition of Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling 1, and an early digital for Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter 2.
Cross Infinite World has the 2nd volume of Mia and the Forbidden Medicine Report.
Denpa Books has a 2nd volume of Heavenly Delusion.
ASH: Nice to see this one finally coming out; it encountered some delays.
SEAN: Ghost Ship debuts Booty Royale: Never Go Down Without a Fight! (Hagure Idol Jigokuhen), which is coming out in 2-volume omnibuses and runs in Nihon Bungeisha’s Bessatsu Manga Goraku. A wannabe idol and karate expert is tricked into the adult entertainment industry, and forced to fight the sex equivalent of a death match game.
MICHELLE: …
ASH: Huh.
ANNA: Erm.
SEAN: J-Novel Club gives us The Faraway Paladin’s 5th manga volume, John Sinclair: Demon Hunter 3, Monster Tamer 5, Perry Rhodan NEO 2, and the 4th Sweet Reincarnation manga.
Kodansha’s print titles include the debut of Pretty Boy Detective Club (Bishounen Tanteidan). They’ve released the first three novels for this already, now we’re getting the manga, which has run in Aria, Palcy, AND Shonen Magazine Edge, so is sui generis. It’s about a middle schooler who gets caught up in a very strange club.
MICHELLE: The first novel didn’t thrill me, but that was largely because of the narrative style. Could be that I would enjoy it more as manga.
ASH: I’ve found that to be true of some of NISIOISIN’s other work as well; at times the stories seem better suited for manga (or anime) rather than prose.
SEAN: Also in print: Boys Run the Riot 2, CITY 12, I’m Standing on a Million Lives 10, Sweat and Soap 7, and Yuzu the Pet Vet 6.
ASH: Boys Run the Riot is high on my list. And this is a good reminder for me to give Sweat and Soap a try.
SEAN: Digitally we see two debuts. My Darling Next Door (Tonari no Otona-kun) is a Betsufure series about a high school girl who falls for an older salaryman who’s just moved next door. Hrm…
ONIMAI: I’m Now Your Sister! (Onii-chan wa Oshimai) runs in Ichijinsha’s Comic Rex, and is about a young man who is turned into a woman due to his mad scientist Little Sister. No comment.
We also see And Yet, You Are So Sweet 4, Back When You Called Us Devils 3, Harem Marriage 7, I’m Standing on a Million Lives 11 (print has nearly caught up), Quality Assurance in Another World 2, Saint Cecelia and Pastor Lawrence 2, Saint Young Men 12, She’s My Knight 2, The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime 5, and the 10th volume of When We’re in Love, which is not a final volume but the series has gone on hiatus after this.
MICHELLE: Cue lamentations about being so far behind on everything.
SEAN: Seven Seas has a few debuts. I’m in Love with the Villainess is based on the light novel, and the digital version has been out for some time, but the print edition of the manga is now released.
ASH: Excellent.
SEAN: Seaside Stranger (Umibe no Étranger) is a BL story from Shodensha’s On Blue, about two men who bond with each other at a seaside town… only one of them isn’t staying long. Can they reconnect?
MICHELLE: I’m definitely looking forward to this one!
ASH: Same! I’ve heard good things.
ANNA: Sounds good.
SEAN: The Strange Adventure of a Broke Mercenary (Kuitsume Youhei no Gensou Kitan) runs in Hobby Japan’s Comic Fire, and is based on the light novel that Airship is releasing. A cynical merc finds it hard to change careers and become an adventurer.
Also from Seven Seas, Berserk of Gluttony 3, Blue Giant 5-6, My Senpai Is Annoying 5, the 5th and final volume of the PENGUINDRUM manga, and The Demon Girl Next Door 3.
ASH: For the most part, I’ve been enjoying what I’ve read of Blue Giant.
ANNA: I have yet to read the first volume, but I have it!
SEAN: Square Enix debuts The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated! (Jahy-sama wa Kujikenai!), the story of a demon lord whose mana crystal is shattered and who ends up powerless in the human world. Can she regain her power despite being small, weak and somewhat pathetic? This has an anime coming out this summer, and is, sigh, from the same writer as Breasts Are My Favorite Things in the World! and The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious.
They’ve also got The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest 4.
Tentai Books gives us How to Melt the Ice Queen’s Heart (Koori no Reijou no Tokashi Kata), a light novel which seems to be a sweet high-school romance series.
Tokyopop has a 4th volume of Ossan Idol!.
Viz has a formerly print-only release now released to digital – all 19 omnibuses of it! If you haven’t heard of Ranma 1/2, I’m sorry, I don’t know what to tell you.
ASH: Ha!
ANNA: What an obscure title!
SEAN: They’ve also got a digital release of Jump title Ayakashi Triangle, a series so ecchi it can’t appear on the normal Jump app. It’s from the To-Love-Ru creator, natch.
Yen On gives us Combatants Will Be Dispatched! 6, The Executioner and Her Way of Life 2, Goblin Slayer 12, In the Land of Leadale 3, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? 16, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Home Alone (the 5th in the series), and Reign of the Seven Spellblades 3.
Yen Press debut? We’ve got it. Captivated, by You (Muchuu sa, Kimi ni) is a one-shot short story collection from Enterbrain’s Comic Beam about strange high school kids, and has won some awards. It’s also a hardcover release. Anyone seeing the words “Comic Beam” should have already added this to their buy list.
ASH: Ooooh, this does look good.
ANNA: Sign me up!
SEAN: Yen also has Cirque Du Freak: The Manga’s 3rd Omnibus re-release, Cocoon Entwined 3 (hair), IM: Great Priest Imhotep 10, Karneval 12, and RaW Hero 5.
Hey, that’s not quiet at all! What suits your tastes?

It is now May and we still haven't heard anything about the adult Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! sequel that is supposed to air sometime this year. Nothing official or direct has been said about it since the initial announcement over a year ago, but despite that, there have been some bits of information we can piece together about it.
To start off, let's look at the initial announcement back in March 2023. To celebrate the Pretty Cure franchise's 20th anniversary, Toei Animation announced that they would be producing two sequel PreCure anime for adult audiences.
The first one was Kibou no Chikara ~Otona PreCure '23~/Power of Hope ~PreCure Full Bloom~, which was a sequel to the first five PreCure seasons, but primarily Yes! Pretty Cure 5 and Yes! Pretty Cure 5 GoGo! It aired on NHK-E in Fall 2023 for 12 episodes, and was streamed internationally on Crunchyroll.
The second one was tentatively titled "Mahou Tsukai Pretty Cure! 2," obviously a sequel to the 13th season of the same name. It was said to air sometime in 2024 on the late night ANiMAZiNG!!!! block. And that's all we ever heard about it since.
ANiMAZiNG!!!!
Let's look at what ANiMAZiNG!!!! actually is. It's an anime programming block from 2:00-2:30AM on Sundays created by the Asahi Broadcasting Corporation with TV Asahi; these networks are the ones responsible for airing PreCure in Japan every Sunday at 8:30AM, so it's familiar territory. ANiMAZiNG!!!! started in October 2020.
Notable anime that aired on this block include: Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie, The Maid I Hired Recently Is Mysterious, The Great Jahy Will Not Be Defeated!, SK8 the Infinity, Iwa-Kakeru! Sport Climbing Girls, I Shall Survive Using Potions!, and Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement.
A 2:00AM slot for PreCure is quite interesting, as even OtonaPre aired on NHK-E as late as Saturday 6:30PM. Despite this, the anime that airs on this block usually isn't too "adult," i.e violent or sexual, so I don't expect MahoPre2 to be anything of the sort. Similarly, the recent Tokyo Mew Mew New aired around midnight, and it wasn't out of the ordinary in terms of content.
With the exception of the Jahy anime, the anime that airs on this block usually does for just one cour, i.e. it has about 11-12 episodes and takes up one seasonal anime slot. We can assume that MahoPre will also have 12 episodes, not just because of this, but also because that was the same amount OtonaPre had. Relatedly, since MahoPre2 is airing on a different network than OtonaPre did, I also think that MahoPre2, when it gets an official title, is probably not going to be under the "Otona" label. OtonaPre aired on NHK-E, the "E" standing for education, and thus was heavily tied in to topics such as climate change and SDGs, of which I don't see MahoPre2 focusing on as much given it will air on a different network that doesn't have such an educational slant (see the other anime that usually airs on ANiMAZiNG!!!!).
At this point in time, the Winter 2024 anime season has long since concluded, and the Spring 2024 season is currently ongoing. So, we know what anime has aired/is airing on ANiMAZiNG!!!! this year so far, but we also have information on a few anime that will air later in the year too, so let's paint a schedule:
The Strongest Tank's Labyrinth Raids — Jan 7 - Mar 24 (Winter 2024)
Tonari no Yokai-san — Apr 7 - TBA (Spring 2024)
??? (Summer 2024)
The Healer Who was Banished From His Party is Actually the Strongest — Starts Oct (Fall 2024)
All of the seasonal slots for ANiMAZiNG!!! this year, except for Summer, have been filled up, and none of them include MahoPre2. On the official site, the poster for the upcoming Summer season is just a blank "Coming Soon." I find it surprising in the case of the Fall slot, because I was expecting MahoPre2 to air there, as OtonaPre also aired in the Fall last year. Based on this information and lack thereof so far, one can assume that MahoPre2 will be airing in the Summer, but doesn't that seem a little strange?
The Summer anime season usually starts in July, and that's two months away now, so why have we gotten basically no official information on the anime yet, not even a proper title or a few visuals? Despite the fact that OtonaPre aired in October last year, we got a peek at the first visual about a week after the initial announcement in March, followed by a moderately paced reel of information throughout the year. Looking at the other non-PreCure anime on ANiMAZiNG!!!!, Strongest Tank was officially announced back in October 2023 (three months prior to airing), Yokai-san was officially announced back in November 2023 (five months prior to airing), [insert overtly long isekai title] was announced earlier this year in January (9 months prior to airing), so MahoPre2 definitely stands out in its lack of information at this late of a stage. Even so, I can't think of any other anime that would be taking the Summer slot at this point in time. There's also the possibility that Yokai-san runs for a second cour, but usually anime that airs on ANiMAZiNG!!! only run for one season, and Yokai-san's original manga concluded with 4 volumes and one side story, which is generally enough content to fit one cour.
So, what can we expect in the coming weeks/months? The first thing is, like most PreCure anime, a logo/title drop in the Japanese trademark office. Just a day before the initial announcement of OtonaPre, the logo was recorded in the office, so it's likely that whenever the MahoPre2 title drops, an official reveal will follow shortly.
What Rie Takahashi said
Another bit of information comes from Rie Takahashi, the voice actress for MahoPre's Mirai /Cure Miracle, on her radio show with fellow voice actress and friend, Reina Ueda (who coincidentally voices Mayu/Cure Lillian in the current Wonderful Pretty Cure!). For the episode uploaded on February 19 earlier this year, she talks a bit about MahoPre2, how it's airing sometime in 2024, and that they're excited for it, that this year is going to be a great one, no new information really, but it's probably the most recent information we've gotten from an official source, albeit a reconfirmation of what we already know.
Somewhat relatedly, the Kamikita twins, who draw the seasonal PreCure manga adaptations every year, posted a tweet earlier this year in January asking if there was anymore news on MahoPre2, which seems to indicate that, even to them at that point, they weren't briefed on anything behind the scenes.
Speculation: The "Wonderful PreCure!" movie
For the sections labeled speculation, I ask that you please do not take anything I write here as pure fact.
While browsing the Japanese side of Twitter, I came across a few opinions of PreCure fans on why Toei is being hush on MahoPre2. One idea is linked to the WonPre movie coming out later in September. In the film's initial trailer, there's a line said towards the end:
youtube
さらに素敵なお友達の出番です!っていいました?! "Sara ni sutekina otomodachi no deban desu! tte iimashita?!" "Did you just say, 'It's time for even more wonderful friends'?!"
What's the significance of the Japanese characters I highlighted in bold? In the context of PreCure, they are the catchphrases of Sora from last year's HiroPre, and Mirai from MahoPre. The 出番, deban, comes from Sora's catchphrase, ヒーローの出番です!, Hero no deban desu!, or officially translated as "It's hero time!" The っていいました?!, tte iimashita?!, or "Did you just say [x]?!" is a quoting particle frequently used by Mirai. Tumblr only allows one video upload per post, so I'll have to link to a separate post I made with the video comparison.
With this in mind, a fair amount of fans believe that the WonPre film will be another crossover one, like the HealPre and TroPre ones were, only this time, that team will be crossing over with the HiroPre and MahoPre teams. It's likely that MahoPre is added in to promote the upcoming sequel, which could be airing around the time the film hits theaters. For that reason, it's probable that Toei wants to combine the marketing for both MahoPre2 and the WonPre film, neither of which has started yet.
Speculation: MahoPre2 Delayed?
The idea of MahoPre2 being delayed isn't really based on any evidence, but pure speculation. Some fans believe that internal politics at Toei have made them shelve the sequel for the time being. Sailor Moon fans are familiar with how Sailor Moon Eternal and Sailor Moon Cosmos were mishandled and delayed multiple times.
youtube
Ojamajo Doremi, PreCure's older sister franchise, is currently celebrating its 25th anniversary with a potential animation plan adapting the sequel light novels with the girls grown up. Funnily enough, that's similar to the concept of MahoPre2, so maybe Toei somewhere down the line turned MahoPre2 into Doremi1620? Hahaha...
Another common theory is that MahoPre2 will actually air in early 2025. That sounds a bit weird, doesn't it? They explicitly said 2024, even Rie Takahashi said so, right? Technically, that wouldn't be a lie, if Toei was looking at Fiscal Year 2024, which in Japan, lasts from April 2024 to March 2025 for governments and corporations. That would give MahoPre2 time to air in the Winter 2025 season, and thus the promotion hasn't started yet because it's still too early.
So, with that all said, there are at least two time periods I believe MahoPre2 could air in, the Summer 2024 season, or the Winter 2025 season. As of now, we can only wait for more information, but I do not have reason to believe that Toei cancelled this project.

Chapter 155.8
Satoru showed up instead of Fushi! I’m getting a bit concerned about what’s taking them so long and if they’ve been held up. It might also be an avoidance tactic. If they show up only to learn that they were too late (again) then it’s better not to show up.
Tumblr media
Intervening like this is something the Beholder would absolutely never do. Even though Satoru’s mannerisms and decisions have mostly matched the Beholder’s, it’s clear now that he actually cares about people who have nothing to do with him. He didn't need to bike over though, there was probably a more time-efficient magic way.
Tumblr media
It would be easier, and better for Fushi and their friends for all of the knockers inside the fake-Fushi and Tonari to die. But even though they’re the same as the previous era knockers—without a consciousness or personality—they have the potential to feel pain and love, like humans. Remember, Fushi developed their humanity because they were in a human body. How are the fake-Fushi and Tonari any different from how they used to be?
So the one in Mizuha's body is definitely the left hand. She broke her spine you don’t just get up from that. The girl herself has either fucked off to Paradise or is currently watching the left hand bastardize her character from somewhere nearby.

Person who only ever thinks about Kahaku: “I’m getting a lot of Kahaku vibes from this.”
Tumblr media
See, the thing about Bon is, he was surrounded by a bunch of people who loved him too much to tell him no while he was growing up. After the Uralis arc where he had to deal with not getting what he wanted for the first time, he matured and became a better person as a result. When he interacts with teenagers like Fushi, Kahaku, and Mizuha, he doesn’t want to coddle them like he was coddled, so he ends up coming across as somewhat cold and uncaring. There’s a lot to be said about Bon’s definition of adult: like how he thinks that as an adult, he shouldn't let himself be selfish; how he lost Fushi and Kahaku's trust because he treated them like adults and expected them to sacrifice everything for their cause; or how he’s been encouraging Fushi to make choices based on their own desires in the present era but still steps in to steer them another direction if they go somewhere he doesn't like.
The reason I'm going on this tangent is because the bit of dialogue Bon had in this chapter reminded me of this aspect of his character that Ooima has clearly thought out but is for some reason not drawing much attention to. And, you know, he probably sees himself in Mizuha here which is making him a lot less compassionate than he might be.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Either the left hand has become a better actor or it really is touched by this. If it's the latter... funny how Yuuki appeals to the left hand and Fushi with hot pot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Person who only ever thinks about Kahaku: “I’m getting a lot of Kahaku vibes from this.”
I'm kind of losing it about the way this whole chapter has been setting up Yuuki’s belief in a peaceful outcome and how humans and knockers can coexist and now the solution is being handed to him on a silver platter and it’s so obviously a trap but he can’t not take it because that’s who he is and the narrative has been pushing this for months and the left hand is confident that this is going to work because it was actually paying attention when Yuuki asked to be friends and is now using that against him but it wouldn’t be able to use it against him if it didn’t actually give a shit in the first place!!! Like… I’m remembering how Kahaku (person who only ever thinks about—) was able to convince the left hand to come back with him because the left hand didn’t know him AT ALL and didn’t understand that maybe some people have things they value more than their own life and now it’s banking on Yuuki risking his life for peace.

ok i was really hoping there was going to be a post on tumblr i could reblog bc i didn’t want to make an original post abt this manga but i read everyday is a good day by nishi noeko this morning and it’s cute! quick summary is that it’s abt a guy who takes care of his deceased sister’s kid, and despite the romance plot existing the manga was actually very much focused on taking care of the kid. they never explicitly defined the age gap bw the main 2 (toki (main) was in college, implied underclassman, while chihiro (love interest) was 15. so prob abt 3-5 yr age diff) but honestly kind of overlooked it bc appi (the kid) was SO CUTE and the mini family of sorts that toki, chihiro, and appi form in the end was so sweet. i think the entire story was handled very realistically so while i wasn’t necessarily BLOWN AWAY by the story, it was a pretty good read.
anyway sorry to focus on the main pairing’s age gap bc it’s really only partially a part of the story (”man he was only 15 when i first met him and now he’s grown. time has really passed huh...”) but i realized recently that the reason i have such an issue with age gaps in stories sometimes and other times not is bc i tend to bristle at age gaps (i’m using the definition of a 4-10 year difference since i think that’s the most common range. 1-3 years i usually never have an issue with and past 10 is like ... sorry no idk abt that chief) where one of the parties is like not really “matured”. like stories about teacher-student, mentor-young mentee (like example 35yo x 22yo, newly entering workforce) coworkers, older person-young, impressionable person who kind of has issues to work out... like they just make me feel uncomfortable to some degree. it’s one thing when it’s 2 adults who have gone about their lives, are comfortable with themselves for the most part, and have their own separate support networks and they meet and get together, but when one’s development is kind of not complete (this includes cases where the junior is “mature for their age”. stfu they’re still developing themselves) or dependent on the other (teacher-student, mentor-mentee)... idk it just makes me feel squicky for lack of a better word lol. i mean i know there are ppl out there who are into those kinds of dynamics, someone taking advantage of their senior position or a junior somehow seducing their teaching senior, but it just doesn’t feel right to me to read even if it’s a fictional story. even if the story isn’t written in a way that’s supposed to be the senior taking advantage of the junior’s issues or vice versa, i just feel that the younger person really needs to live life separate from wooing an older person before they get into a relationship. that’s why the established adult-established adult age gap pairings work with me sometimes because both parties have had a chance to develop and figure out by themselves what makes them tick; someone recently entering the workforce can be competent but they also just entered the workforce. tonari ni by basso is a very good example in my opinion of an age gap that falls under my definition of what an age gap pairing should be.
i just realized i completely missed the dynamic of older boss-established adult subordinate. that’s why i said i’m ok with age gap SOMETIMES, bc it also depends on the social dynamic being presented. if it’s 2 adults in different jobs or departments then alright depends on how their story is written, but if it’s 2 adults in the same department and one of them is under the other ... that still brings up the uncomfortable power dynamic for me even if the subordinate is established. i think i’ve read a couple of mangas where the boss and subordinate were around the same age but then yeah that takes out the whole age gap issue then. anyway this case isn’t what i’m specifically talking about when i say i have issues with age gap, so my thoughts here are less developed/concrete.
anyway i didn’t mean to turn this review into a discussion abt age gaps. tl;dr the BL that i originally wrote this post about is pretty good although i would have preferred to just reblog something since it wasn’t particularly noteworthy for me.

Cast:
Tumblr media
Senri An anonymous inhabitant of the city’s nightlife Voiced by: Noboru Yajima
(Known roles: Chihiro Ukawa from Grisaia: Phantom Trigger, Nakaba Hanabusa from Clock Zero ~Shuuen no Ichibyou~, Shouran Shiba from Dungeons & Daimeiwaku -Great Edges in the Abyss-, etc.)
Occupation: OutCast
A mysterious young man who operates near the entertainment district. He has many casual acquaintances and could be called sociable. When he finds time, he attempts to solve extremely difficult ring puzzles, and has a habit of only looking at things from a logical point of view. Ageha, an information broker, values his skills as a mage and sometimes has him take care of not-so-legal troubles. He has something of an elusive air, as he pays no attention to matters that don’t interest him and is always extremely frank. When he judges something to be worthwhile, however, he’ll show unusual tenacity and decisiveness in pursuing it. “I don’t imagine I’ll be able to make anything of that.”
Tumblr media
Haruto Mutsumi Slightly half-baked, a boy who can’t turn a blind eye to wrongdoing Voiced by: Yuuji Masuoka
(Known roles: Ulrick Ritter von Weinberger from A Clockwork Ley-Line: Flowers Falling in the Morning Mist, Walther Ritz from Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning, Touichirou Azuma from Magical Eyes - Red is for anguish, etc.)
Occupation: Student (First National School for Higher Magic Education, 9th Class, Caster) A mage in his second year at the Academy. He’s cheerful, upbeat, and honest, so people tend to like him, even if he can be a bit oblivious at times. He has a strong sense of justice and he can’t walk away when he sees someone doing something wrong. He gets involved in incidents most often when it looks like people are going to get hurt, which gets him in trouble with his father Yuuji, a detective. Since they lost their mother early in life, he and his sister split the housework. His best dish is omelette rice, and he always writes the recipient’s name on it. “That’s not right. It’s not playing fair.”
Tumblr media
Asahi Rikudou A unique girl facing trials on her way to the Land of Dreams Voiced by: Ichigo Kayama
(Known roles: Eri Miyamae from Kiss Bell, Marika von Wittelsbach from Golden Marriage, Ryouka Chibana from Kimi no Tonari de Koishiteru!, etc.)
Occupation: Student (First National School for Higher Magic Education, 9th Class, Caster) A mage who attends the Academy. In contrast to her young appearance, she has a dynamism and decisiveness to put the average adult to shame. She’s well-known at the Academy for causing commotions. She has her own set of values and is treated as an oddball by those around her for it, but that doesn’t bother her at all. Because of her cute appearance and odd behavior, she’s got a cult following among the boys of the Academy. She’s a strong person who never doubts herself, but she’s also got an unusually pure heart, and sometimes misses her family, whom she can no longer see. She believes in the existence of a ”Land of Dreams” and has made reaching it her ultimate goal. She believes that trials she must overcome to reach this land are recorded in the diary she’s always carrying around. “I won’t be asking you for help. These are my trials, after all.”
Tumblr media
Riku Atori The daughter of a huge company’s CEO, who’s not quite on the same wavelength as others her age Voiced by: Ringo Aoba
(Known roles: Amy March from Gahkthun of the Golden Lightning -What a Radiant Brave-, Benkei Musashibou from Eiyuu*Senki, Nemu Manaka from euphoria, etc.)
Occupation: Student (First National School for Higher Magic Education, 10th Class, Caster) The daughter of Atori, the company that manufactures Magi-related goods. She’s a tester of the products Atori develops, specifically of first-rate goods. Since she’s been continually surrounded by adults from a young age, she doesn’t have much in common with other teenagers and her tastes are like those of an old man. She doesn’t let anything bother her and she has a tendency to be logical about things, so she’s more composed than Haruto even though he’s older than her. She doesn’t have any friends at the Academy, but she’s casual with the people she’s close to. Of course, that’s pretty much just one person: Akeno, an employee at Atori.
“Well, if they don’t need to do anything, that’s probably for the best.”
Tumblr media
Fiona Annabel Kousaki The moral center of the local church, her smile never goes out Voiced by: Homi Momoi
(Known roles: Jack from Cho Dengeki Stryker, Fumirul from Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth, Minori Hosaka from Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue, etc.) Occupation: Apprentice Sister A sister with a beautiful smile who works at the church. She’s meek and cheerful and works hard. She takes care of all of the clerical work by herself and is always busy with something or other. Not only do all the parishioners love her, she’s on good terms with the vigilantes who hang around the church too. Father Gaimon appreciates the natural, calming effect she has on her surroundings, but she can also be a little immature at times. The melancholic smiles she sometimes lets slip have stolen many a heart. She’s fond of sweet things and cats (particularly their paw pads). “Let’s do our best again today!”
Tumblr media
Noah A girl spotted on Agartha Voiced by: Hana Anzu
(Known roles: Ayumi Murai from Bible Black, Ren Ese from the Ne no Kami: The Two Princess Knights of Kyoto series, Reo Kawamura from A Kiss for the Petals - Maidens of Michael, etc.)
Occupation: Unknown A supernatural phenomenon that’s constantly the topic of discussion on occult message boards. Since she only appears during the frequent power outages, there are rumors that she’s the vengeful spirit of someone who was electrocuted on a power line, but no one knows the real truth. She isn’t something just based on mere rumor; more photographical proof and witness testimonies lending credence to her existence are surfacing every day. “.........”

Mukaichi Mion x Komiyama Haruka
BOMB 2015 July *issue* Edition Magazine Interview Translations (1st half)
From now, we want 15th gen to pull AKB and we want to spread 「komion」☆
—These 2 are really close among the same gen
Komiyama: She’s the closest to me
Mukaichi: I’m happy It’s also the same for me
K: Actually she is the one who made ‘Komiharu’
M: Right, during our kenkyuusei time, we met in the station, at that time I said something like, “ Komiyama Haruka is Komiharu, right”
K: Because of that, the other people around me start to call me ‘Komiharu’
—Ohh, Miion is the one who started ‘Komiharu’
M: It’s also because of me Komi call herself ‘Komi’
K: Back then, it was ‘Haruka’. In one casual moment, I accidentally said ‘Komi’. After that Mion said, “Komi is cute” to me. I was happy, so it becomes Komi from there. Now, I even said ‘Komi’ at home.
Leaving her height aside, Mion is really an adult. Because of that, being together with her is peaceful. I also jealous that she has the body of an adult (or let’s just say sexy to put it simply). Isn’t that a gap? Once she takes (her clothes?) Off, she becomes to looks like an adult.
M: The one who is jealous is me. I have something to say for people who are looking at this gravure. I’m not fat, Komi is the one who is too thin!! (laugh)
—Hahaha. Since you are good friends, is there some side (of the other) that’ll be better if (she) fix it?
M: The way she makes the hotel room dirty (laugh)
K: Since I can’t clean up, and Mion is quite severe, when I got on to her bed while my hair is wet, she’ll get mad at me. (Laugh)
M: Because I feel like, ‘that’s my bed.’ As for Komi, wherever is fine. But for me, 'this is my area’
K: it’s approximately like that. (Laugh) Mion is neat, isn’t she...
---By the way, the day 15th generation will become AKB’s core members is soon to come
M: Well, it’s been 3 years after all.
K: Even though there are the Draft 1st and HKT48′s 3rd generation, people still see us as the youngest generation. But since AKB is keep changing, I really hope that the day 15th gen will pull AKB will come soon.
M: What a good word you said there!! By the way, 15th generation is rich in personality, we also have 12 members which is the largest amount of member in one generation (among AKB). Since a lot of the seniors have graduated, I hope we (the juniors) can keep what they have left us and make it even better.
---So you are the biggest generation (laugh). Do you often do a 15th generation members meeting?
K: We do it quite often.
M: We usually do it at Yakiniku IWA.
K: There, we talk about a lot of things.
M: Since we are in the different team, there are a lot of things that we don’t know about each other (laugh). We look just like a class at school.
---Is there something you want to do together, just two of you?
M: I want us to perform a unit song together.
K: I want to perform“Tonari no Banana” or “Heart no Dokusenken.”
M: You really like those songs don’t you? Also, I want to go to Disney(land) and pool.
K: And wear matching clothes.
M: Just like a twin (laugh). I also want more people to know about “KoMion.” By the way, KoMion is Komi+Mion.
K: Since we always use it on G+, I really hope that a lot of people will know it
I actually posted it before, but it wasn’t full.

Chapter 152.1
I’m not sure this is obvious unless you look at the raws, but this chapter’s title and Chapter 151’s title are matching. “Tsuna gu mono” and “igyou no mono” both have the word for “something” in the same place. It makes this title feel like a direct response to the four weeks of build up to seeing Mizuha again. The "thing that connects" her to her friends has been warped. Maybe this is an easy connection to make and I'm just being pretentious as usual.
Tonari's pain in the ass song makes her seem childish, even though she’s still trying to maintain an adult persona. In the short time we saw her, she expressed the idea that Fushi’s such a child that she, their mature mentor figure, has to help them out. I’m pretty sure it’s to cover up she actually worries about them just because she loves them, but even so Tonari restricting her role in Fushi’s life to cleaning up after them is demeaning for both of them.
By the way I am absolutely going to take a decent chunk of this post to talk about Tonari even though she did practically nothing. Because I love her. But first: you can see that Bon's been discarding his shit here too. The macarons and tea set are definitely his.
Tumblr media
Twice now we’ve had Tonari’s point of view as she thinks about Fushi while they’re meeting with the left hand. It’s to show the contrast between two people who like Fushi (Mizuha and Tonari), obviously, but also going way back to the Jananda arc, Tonari was the only one who tried to save Fushi when they pretended to go with Hayase. Right now, they've gone off with one of her successors, but Tonari's not going to save them because she doesn't want to be controlling like Hayase. She's matured, but not in a good way! Her childish selfishness (for lack of a better word; basically the freedom to do what she wants) was what let her foil Hayase's plans way back in the day, but she can't do that anymore because she already tried to take an active role in Fushi's life, and it didn't work out. It’s like the timing was off, and now that Mizuha is actually an issue, Tonari’s worried about Fushi, and there are weapons right in front of her, she's not going to do anything. It furthers the feeling that things were supposed to play out a certain way, but they've gotten twisted somehow (like the present era being a subversion of the concepts introduced in the previous era on purpose, not like Ooima accidentally fucked the story up).
Mizuha, by the way, is absolutely living selfishly. She has what she's always wanted: someone who dotes on her and exists only to fulfill her desires. Obviously this is not a healthy relationship, which is what Mizuha truly wants. I've said this before, but Mizuha won't conceptualize a relationship with two people who are equals, because she's never seen one. The closest she got was trying to convey to Hanna way back when she ran away from home that Hanna was special to her with the feather hair-tie. Mizuha's character deterioration my beloved.
Tumblr media
Literally eating Fushi is fulfilling Hayase’s wish to “become one with them” by technicality. If you've read Chainsaw Man, you know what I mean. But although Mizuha possesses Fushi in a materialistic way, she doesn't have what she needs, the immortality part. It would be easy for her to just ask Fushi to make her immortal, and they would agree, but as Mizuha says in this chapter, she doesn't trust them. Why should she leave her most important dream in someone else's hands when she can do it herself?
And then Fushi's response, that there's no real Fushi... Unfortunately this explains how Fushi could agree to let Gugu live with them forever and then jump at their first chance to get themselves killed like his determination means nothing to them. Overriding other people's decisions because they think that they can do better is something Fushi does a lot. Reread the last sentence in the previous paragraph please... yeah. They're just as selfish as Mizuha, in their own way.
Tumblr media
Like Tonari says here, regardless of what Fushi does, their friends' wishes will come to pass. Even March and Eko can live on their own and rely on people better equipped to help them grow, like Mimori and their tutor. Fushi's been thinking of themselves like a tool they can use to help their friends, but that tool isn't necessary anymore. So there's no reason for them to stay.
Fushi's response to Mizuha's request, and the fact that eating them isn't enough to become immortal, really emphasizes how difficult it is to pin Fushi down. Unlike Tonari and Satoru, and presumably the knockers, their personality isn't affected if their vessel changes. It remains constant, which is actually pretty special if you think about it. Even if the knockers have one of their bodies, their self isn't affected at all, although their memories are. They're real, like Mizuha says, they can carry a conversation, but everything that makes them them is intangible. This is why the knockers have been having so much trouble finding out "where Fushi's life is located."
Even though Mizuha would probably say she's freer than she's ever been, she's physically trapped inside the Defense Corps. base, and her hair in this chapter is completely black even though her mother's has its usual shine. Funny how her hair only loses its luster after she casts aside the people she was afraid would make her dull. Besides that, it also looks like she’s unwell. I mean, physically unwell. She's always been mentally unwell. The overall vibe is that her depression has actually gotten worse.
About the reason given for why she's being kept underground: it's been hinted that the knockers now want to bring Paradise to humans instead of the other way around. This is exactly what Fushi wishes for as well, so it's possible that this meeting will turn into a negotiation between the Defense Corps. and Fushi about how to collaborate and create a perfect world. But like I said earlier, Fushi's realized that humans will help each other and make a happy world without their interference. It's not impossible to convince them, because we've seen pretty clearly that they're married to the idea of proving themselves to Mizuha, and they change their mind a lot, but it really depends on how the left hand/Mizuha approaches this.
For the majority of this chapter, Fushi was just parroting things they’d heard from someone else. It's especially blatant when they do this with Mizuha, but they do it practically all the time to everyone. Even this trip to find Mizuha in the Defense Corps. headquarters was based on Fushi's assumption that what worked with Fuuna would work with her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is one of the reasons Mizuha says nothing they say rings true. You can sort of think of Fushi as a collection of experiences they've had since they took on Johann's form, that just recites the stuff it knows. An oversimplification, yeah, but that's how Fushi thinks of themselves, and it affects how they interact with the world around them. It's funny, all the blocks they've put up to try and prevent themselves from feeling negative emotions are preventing them from connecting with other people. Rather hypocritical of Mizuha to call them out on this, seeing as one of her expectations after achieving immortality is that she'll stop feeling like shit all the time and be able to make friends easily.
Tumblr media
By the way, Mizuha herself has a habit of speaking in riddles and half-truths, but she’s never technically lied, as far as I can tell. She values honesty, but as Saki said, she never says what she really means. For comparison, Fushi has lied to her a genuinely impressive amount since they met. And Tonari has been brutally honest. Thanks to Izumi's knocker, Mizuha knows that the Defense Corps. will accept her unconditionally, and as such she doesn't fear the repercussions of acting on her desires, meaning that she doesn't bother mincing words anymore. We saw this in Chapter 146.1 when she kissed Hanna and told her straight (ha) that she liked her, but she almost immediately reverted in Chapter 146.2 when she ran back to Fushi, and couldn't tell them what was wrong. That was because she hadn't had a lot of time to sit with her newfound confidence before confronting Fushi and Hanna, so she ended up cracking pretty quickly when pushed.
When it comes to herself, however, Mizuha has probably become a liar. In this chapter, she kept the conversation focused on Fushi's faults with blunt statements, and avoided their questions about her true feelings. The opposite of Tonari, who's now honest with herself but doesn't share her private thoughts with anyone anymore (another reason why the two of them are foiling each other within the narrative, but not practically).
I’m so glad Fushi having only cried once is actually getting covered in the manga. We’ve never seen them crying and I assumed it was a small mercy from the Beholder, but I also thought Fushi having never cried being something that marks them as the individual “Fushi” instead of a quirk of someone else’s body would be really cool. I mean, their other bodily functions work fine. But what Mizuha's implying is that this makes them less human. This is bullshit and she knows it, but she's still deliberately provoking them because even though Fushi said they don't exist like a page ago, they still get upset at the idea that they appear less than human. God was created in man's image and all that.
Mizuha is so obviously manipulating Fushi but because she/the left hand knows them so well there's nothing they can do. Like how they couldn't act against Mimori's knocker because of a moral loophole even though it was so obviously not doing anything good. They’re trying to rise to her challenge but in the end they’re doing what she wants anyways. I pretty much got my answer and Fushi will probably die. They've decided earning Mizuha’s approval is more important than returning to their friends, and to earn that approval, they’re going to have to use their own words. That would be a lot easier if the few times they tried to reach out to Mizuha about things that they found exciting, she hadn't shut them down. Fushi taking off the rope was a signal that they're willing to do whatever it takes to get Mizuha to listen to them, but also that they're releasing themselves from everything holding them back from saying what they want.
The different directions in Fushi and Mizuha's character development can be summarized like this: if Fushi's learned that having to ask someone not to hate them probably means that they should reassess what they've done to make that person hate them, Mizuha's learned not to ask for forgiveness at all. Why should she? She's convinced that she must be right. And Fushi's learned that they're always wrong.
