ok ajsdhkjdlmlsak I just!! do not want to ruin anyone's experience of it bc I know a lot of people seem to love it jsdkjks to kiri I've been like IT'S SO COOL HOW ARE U FEELING and right now I'm just like WHAT IS GOING ON WHY DO I FEEL TERRIBLE ABT THIS

I like the production from like a technical standpoint I think it was really cool (not as good as Ashe's album but that is high standards!!), even tho it leaves a weird hearing aftertaste (I immediately fell into all of my comfort albums right after I'd finished n I stilll don't know whyyyy), her voice is wonderful and I like the tone BUT. i heard she's been talking abt how she's like "bringing back pop punk" but she is Not? there were like. three... songs.? four? that were upbeat and about two (I think brutal and good 4 u) that sounded anything like actual pop punk (and the rest are........sad? breakup songs?)

like compare: Grace Vanderwaal and her two recent songs (punk rock, not pop punk, but similar to brutal like really vaguely) or Louis Tomlinson and Kill My Mind/Miss You (pop punk, good 4 u passes the vibe check of british pop punk sjdkjsjlsdk). brutal is swag but like why aren't there more brutal songs!!! that one was good even though the lyrics are uh,,,, jshdksdkj anyway. her voice is lowkey made for the genre though I am not in the corner of the genre with those kinds of voices

ok though u know what the thing is, Olivia said she's bringing back pop punk but the thing about pop-punk is that it's messy and proper instruments and actually having fun and messing around with the instruments and being loud and absolutely not ignorable, because it's punk. brutal does bring that to the table but it's like one song, swear words are not really punk (they are just making me go damn it olivia let my kid sister listen to your music sjdkjsd the dichotomy of being 17 and also a disney star? in 2021?). the aesthetic is not flower filled grocery stores and butterflies and pop and aesthetic things djdskdls??? like!! I think maybe that's why I'm like, this is Wrong, to just throw some pop punk songs in alongside like nine breakup songs? and yet have those songs be kind of like the strongest points in the album aside from drivers license and hope ur ok. at this point it has been like three hours of me trying to articulate and now I have brutal stuck in my head and I want more brutal-type and less drivers license-type. she could just say she's just being Olivia and not have put a label on it genre-wise tho? that would have been neat I would have expected less and it encompasses more of the album itself

can u tell. I am very sad and I just want actual new pop punk/punk rock music if there's no proper amazing songwriting happening sjhfkjdsdslk that is my beloved little corner of music and I was like noooo!!!! Olivia!!!! but I did cry at hope ur ok so like.

The songwriting isn't solid enough to stand on its own and don't have clear imagery and storytelling (like Taylor Swift?? or uh Lorde both of whom she says she takes after) to distinguish themselves and I suspect she has been learning poetry from instagram and stuff please start reading good books and learn how to not word vomit (we are in the same boat tho it sucks) ms rodrigo. neither are the melodies/little instrumental riffs/hooks (which are nonexistent sjhdsjksd let the brain hang onto something!!! deja vu and good 4 u have them though they're not ballads, but like the melodies??? think heather by conan gray. it has that hook, and there aren't strong hooks throughout the album I don't think), and she also could have just done the EP??? I think it'd have been smarter for a debut specifically because it's easier to make a good EP than a good album (like listen, Dodie and Ashe didn't release albums until now, it's not like a dumb thing to do to cover up flaws, it's letting yourself grow into making big bodies of work) and she could make a stronger album later with more experience like, she didn't need to "prove herself"? *meme voice* sometimes... playing it safe is better. especially when u are seventeen and like. super in the spotlight gosh she's probably gonna get a bunch of critical thingies idk what they're called. the album I think probably jams but also it's so much of an average teen 2021 album idk. I think she'll grow into it though so maybe it'll get better with time!

i think the thing is......i have consumed almost every thing possibly ever related to billie instead of being a productive member of society for the past 4 or so years, and i feel like i’ve got a pretty well-rounded/realistic picture of who he is, so honestly he really couldn’t disappoint me bc i’ve never exactly had him on a pedestal, BELIEVE IT OR NOT LOL

like.....obviously he is impt to me and if u have been following this blog, u can tell i adore him, but like.............i’ve never had high expectations for him? like, he’s not a god, he’s just a very, very hard-working, talented musician and performer. i think he’s clever, but i don’t think he’s very.....smart, idk. to put it in DND terms, he’s high wisdom, low intelligence lol. and there’s lots of different kinds of intelligence. i think as a frontman and songwriter/poet he has a LOT of emotional intelligence. i think he has a good memory and he’s good at learning abt things he’s interested in. i.......don’t think he is book smart LOL.

i guess a lot of ppl see him as a punk icon, but i don’t think he’s been “punk” since 21cb, and i’m fine with that. i never looked up to him as a punk, i look up to him as someone who’s career i want to emulate. yeah he sold out, and you fucking know what? i want to sell out too! that’s literally ALL I WANT LMAO.

i DO think he’s a kind and caring person who tries his best, and that comes with the empathy that he has, but i don’t think he’s.....a role model? unless you specifically want to be a performer? and you want to go through the music industry?

i don’t think any one person SHOULD be your role model, people are multi-faceted and you can pick and choose aspects of people that you admire and just emulate that. i mean, i even look up to people i hate who have fucked me over, lol, i don’t discriminate against their “good” traits.

my ex roommate stole from me and was pretty much an all around piece of shit, but she spoke 3 languages and i admire that about her. my current roommate isn’t in the same social/career path as i am, but she’s so kind and wants to save the planet in little ways, even if i don’t agree with them (she insists we don’t buy ben and jerry’s bc they’re owned by unilever or smth but like. we buy talenti which is owned by the same company sdkjfhsdf). i still have love for people i’m not friends with because i became friends with them in the first place out of seeing smth i admired abt them.

IDK CELEBRITY CULTURE IS WEIRD. i think it helps that i will *always* have like, uh, fanfic billie that i can sexualize to my heart’s content and Real Billie can never ruin him for me? because the billie in my head will never be the real billie, only as close as i can possibly get by interviews/gossip/performances/anecdotes/arm chair analysis and that’s why i literally never ever ever ever want to meet him LOL

BIOGRAPHY:

from the very beginning, sebastian’s family dynamic was quite different from the others. his parents met on tv through a dating show in the 90s and were lucky enough to find something that lasted. social media and influencing wasn’t a thing back in the 90s, so that wasn’t their claim to fame. sebastian’s father had found himself a career in tech, which soon become a booming business and raised his family’s social class and status.

in 1997, the turner family welcomed their first and only child. instead of his mother taking a long maternity leave, she made the choice to go back to work just a few weeks after giving birth. that left sebastian at home with his dad. the bond between sebastian and his father quickly became one that was unbreakable.

growing up, his dad had always been the softie while his mom was considered the hard ass. dad was there for his first words, his first steps, his first day of school, etc. he’d met many boys at school who preferred their moms, but sebastian always preferred dad. he never minded having his mother at work and dad at home.

being so close to his dad, sebastian often put him on a pedestal as the perfect man. in fact, to this day, sebastian takes a lot after his father. growing up, his father was always presenting his mother with grand gestures of love. big bouquets of flowers, fancy dinners (that sometimes sebastian had to be sent away from), tickets to big events, etc. his dad made their home so full of love and was the perfect image of a man who loves romance. something that developed within sebastian as he grew up.

in elementary school, he took to many different instruments. he learned to play piano, guitar, cello, and bass. his family was always filling the house with music, so it was only a matter of time before sebastian caught the music bug. with this interest in instruments, his interest in songwriting grew as well. of course, they were very bad at first, but over time he got better and better with it. soon enough, this love of music mixed with his love of love, putting him right in the sweet spot and creating love songs.

in middle school, everyone called him a little casanova. he was falling in love (as much as a seventh grader could fall in love) with a new girl each day and was getting his heart broken just as often. one would think constant heartbreak would deter him, but to this day, he still wears his heart proudly on his sleeve.

in high school, sebastian really developed his boy next door persona. he was the guy girls would tell their parents they were with when they needed an alibi, he was a shoulder to cry on, and he was all around the guy you would want to be friends with.

the minute brooks, mason, and sebastian formed their band is one that sebastian will remember for the rest of his life. the three grew extremely close really fast, and it was like he was no longer an only child. he gained two brothers in mason and brooks, something he never thought he’d have the opportunity to have. the way they clicked with their personalities and their music truly made them a force to be reckoned with. nothing beat the band experience-- sleeping on the buses, all-nighters working on melodies and lyrics, the high as they exited stage for the night. that was, until it all fell apart.

the band breaking up was hard for sebastian. it was a world he had gotten used to, one he had expected to carry on living in for at least a decade. he somewhat knew tensions were high behind the scenes, but he always tried his best to play moderator between mason and brooks. this often ended in the two storming off and leaving sebastian alone, but he was willing to keep at it if the others were. their last gig together, though, was one of the most embarrassing nights of his life. partially because he was left alone on stage that night, but also because he felt the whole scenario reflected poorly on him. he couldn’t keep the band together, despite his best efforts.

but just like the other two, he carried on as a solo act. he had always had the capability of working on his own, he just preferred the band life over the solo life. still, with the band already getting his name out there, it didn’t take long for him to find his footing in the music industry. when he first joined the band, he asked his dad if there was any way he could help sebastian figure out different production software and together they spent many months trying to figure out what made a good sound and what didn’t. by the time it was time to release his own music, sebastian felt unstoppable.

(does a funky little dance) OFFICIAL! LEAN ON ME! TIMELINE! HERE WE GO

1986 - carly, the oldest of the ruro siblings is born and months later adopted by grace (a former broadway actress and manager of a small local cafe) and arthur ruro (a former guitarist who now owns a local music shop), a couple living in the tiny town of misky, arizona who can’t have bio kids but want a large family regardless

1987 - cameron, the second oldest of the ruro siblings, is born and months later adopted into the family

1989 - kayleigh and mary, fraternal twins, are born and adopted at two days old

general childhood information, spanning about 1990 thru 2000 - all of the girls receive musical education and are pretty much constantly surrounded by music, whether it be around the house thru their parents always having some kind of vinyl record on or helping out at their dad’s music shop

all the girls love it but kayleigh takes to it like a fish to water and starts learning violin at just age 4, and her mother begins giving her vocal training soon after

the girls discover alternative music and subculture through the magic of the fledgling internet, and carly, kayleigh, and cameron pretty much all become baby punks at like, 10-15 years old

2001 - kayleigh is invited to a music competition for Prodigious Youth at 12 years old. she is paired with Blue Scott, a shy, lanky kid from chicago who is also a massive music nerd like her. they win the competition and over the course of the week that they are working, they become best friends

over the course of the following years, they are constant pen pals, and see each other 2-3 times a year in person

2002 - when carly and cameron are teenagers, they decide to start a punk band, except in order to use all of their parents music equipment their parents FORCE them to include their younger sisters (kayleigh and mary). there is much griping and groaning about this

2003 - hey wait, that band is actually pretty good despite kayleigh and mary being only 15. they play their first show that isn’t at their local community centre without the knowledge of their parents and officially christen the band poison pop

carly graduates much to the chagrin of her parents, she gleefully declares she is not going to college

2005 - cameron, against her own better judgement, takes a gap year because the band starts recording their first album at home with their own equipment, and also starts playing more and more shows. at this point their parents know but are trusting cameron and carly to keep 16 year old kayleigh and mary in line and safe

blue introduces the girls to his friend ryka, a teenager a year younger than kayleigh and mary, who is shockingly good at guitar. she takes up kayleigh’s guitarist spot and leaves her free to do vocals only

they get lucky and happen to play a show at a large alt rock festival in phoenix, catching the attention of rising chicago-based label dissociation records who immediately offer them a record deal. they take it on the spot and dissociation flies them out to chicago a month later to sign the paperwork

2006 - they drop their first professionally recorded single, poison killed the prom queen. it shoots to the top of the charts, making poison pop one of the biggest bands in the nation overnight

they release their album of the same name that year as well, and with their continued success with the other singles, they cement themselves as the first truly household name in emo

2007 - they tour with another emo band called watch the skies, who quickly rocket in popularity, and immediately begin work on their next album. meanwhile, the girls are dealing with their first tastes of fame and they’re not dealing with it well <3

kayleigh and blue start fake dating to get the press off kayleigh’s ass about her love life. this..................is going to go exactly how you think it’s going to go. they move to LA together <3

2008 - batwings and crowbeaks drops to another massive success, and they continue touring. dissociation records, by this time, have taken almost complete control of their image and discography, so despite the record itself being quite good, it is nothing like what poison pop originally tried to make, and they’re starting to get fed up with it

not to mention dissociation has them on a near-constant work schedule, and they can’t take any significant breaks, abandoning their family and friends and almost any social lives they mightve had outside the music world

the only good thing to happen this year is mary getting married to her highschool sweetheart, mark. it is a nice wedding and probably the last time the girls will be happy together for a long time.

2009 - kayleigh and blue “break up” and stop talking to eachother completely. six months later, as they’re working on their third announced studio album bruises, the band (except kayleigh) decides to break up. upon hearing about this decision, kayleigh has a minor mental breakdown and cuts off contact with the entire band

bruises is never released, and the band is officially broken up by the end of the year, breaking out of their contract with dissociation through a legal loophole

2010 - kayleigh begins to find a life outside the band, and starts doing songwriting work with what remains of her connections in the industry, which she’s really good at and she really enjoys.

she finally fucking gets mental health help. jesus christ my gal. im so glad u are finally getting better

2011 - kayleigh makes up with pretty much everybody, including blue, but it’s a slow process. they spend their first christmas together as a family in 2 years

kayleigh and ryka discuss the fact that they still yearn for the stage, and an idea begins to form

2012 - ryka forms sparrow records, her own record label, and its first signee becomes half-dead, a two piece band consisting of kayleigh and her.

ryka moves to LA with her boyfriend rowan, and invites kayleigh to room with her. kayleigh, who knows blue is looking to move to LA and properly start his music career, invites him to room with them.

this is an idea that absolutely won’t backfire or dredge up any old feelings i’m sure

(just kidding. they’re dating by christmas <3)

2013 - half-dead releases its first album, at which point i have to admit i do not know anything abt half-dead’s release schedule fJSDKFHSDF.

what i do know is that they tour that year with long shot for speedy as their opening act and they instantly become band moms to them despite literally only being five and six years older than them at most. they just have that energy having been in the music industry for much, much longer than they have

2014 - blue releases his first album, wallflower, to shocking success!

2016 - half-dead is relatively successful, but kayleigh and ryka are not going to make the same mistakes this time round and they take a break in 2016. ryka n rowan move back to chicago, and kayleigh and blue buy their first house together!

2017 - the girls all get together on new year’s day and talk about poison pop. this discussion leads them to decide to finally bring back the band.

2018 - jetlag life, poison pop’s first album in over a decade, drops that summer, and they begin touring immediately afterwards with watch the skies!

2019 - blue proposes to kayleigh after 18 years of knowing each other and 7 years of dating. <3

2020 - blue and kayleigh FINALLY get married and nothing bad happens because this is my timeline

also poison pop, around the end of year, start dropping hints at another album.... 👀

these youtube channels emmymadeinjapan : a nice japanese-american lady tries all manner of foods and recipes, she even did a military rations series pangzai : he’s a farmer from hebei province in china, got viral because he can drink like nobodys business, extremely popular in that country. has some nice vids showing his life in rural northern china. there’s a lot more going on at his twitter but idk how this person feels abt looking at twitter boiler room : one of my favorite music youtubes ever, they show a lot of cool electronic music artists and they stream performances from all over the world (but the focus is on the UK). all shows are free to watch and sometimes u can even download sessions! not a youtube channel but soulection radio also has great and very current music

haha re: the onsen q, the onsens i’ve seen have a little drainage filter at the bottom and a water supply that can be turned off. so i think when they wanna clean those they just open up the drainage, let all the water out then give everything a good scrub, rinse thoroughly and then refill. luckily the one i went to in yufuin wasn’t slimy at all, maybe coz not many ppl use it everyday too

so her parent’s story was actually a pretty big scandal in the 90′s ! basically theo’s mom was the pretty famous front woman of a band ( think stevie nicks in fleetwood mac ) who was long engaged to the guitarist of that same band....until one day it was announced she was quitting the group and starting her solo career, leaving her fiance, and signing to a new label.....which was run by theo’s father, a young up & coming producer taking over the family business. not even three months later theo’s mom releases her first solo album, produced and co-written by theo’s father, basically detailing this years long affair the two had been having... in a series of really catchy, moving, and wildly successful songs.

the public went crazy over the drama, especially when rumors started circulating ( through detailed analysis of the lyrics to all of theo’s mom’s solo songs ) that the well known band had actually been quite toxic. basically it was enough to convince media outlets and fans alike to forgive theo’s parents for being cheaters and breaking up the band JSDBWBDJWBD. by the time theo was born in the last year of the iconic decade that launched both her parents into stardom, everyone couldn’t be happier the two stars were getting the happy life they deserved <3

so here comes baby theo.....and the world kind of just immediately labels her as america’s sweetheart. her mom had some minor health issues which just meant it would be safer to not have anymore kids after theo, so not only was she this little angel to the public, she was also her parent’s little miracle baby ! lets just say she had some big shoes to fill bc of all the expectations ..

luckily no one had to worry abt her being a demon child JSBDJWDWJ because she turned out to be a very sweet kid ! she was a HUGE daydreamer since she spent a lot of time alone growing up </3 her mom had retired from singing and was now helping theo’s dad run the label, and the two of them were always busy looking for new talent to sign. she didn’t have any siblings and although she had a really attentive nanny it just .. wasn’t the same ?? so to #Cope JSBDWBSBDJW theo was always creating these super elaborate little fantasy worlds. it wasn’t uncommon for u to find her deeply engrossed playing barbies alone like she had scripts and everything

by the time she was a preteen her parents were both really pressuring theo into thinking about a singing career, so wanting to please them ( and knowing that it was something she was kinda into anyway ) theo said ok sure ! and that’s where.....things start to take a turn. since she was so young she had this very very clean, innocent, cute image ( think disney stars ) & most of the music she was making was used for kids shows or movies. she didn’t really mind it so much but she noticed that her creative process wasn’t really valued ? or taken very seriously by her parents, because in their eyes like that’s their kid you know she’s still young, she’s always had her head in the clouds, they just really didn’t think it was a big deal if they took control.

so theo put up with it, but the years kept going by, she kept getting older, and nothing was really changing. she still had a squeaky clean image, little say in the type of music she was making, but on the outside everything looked great. the public loved her, she was a role model for kids ( even though she was a teenager now ), it was all perfect.....until it wasn’t. when she was 16, she had a scandal akin to the vanessa hudgen’s nude photo leak, except it wasn’t as explicit ( not a nude, just a suggestive pic ) and it was way way worse considering theo was a minor.

legal action was immediately taken by her parents, but once something’s out there you can’t really stop it from circulating, so the photos existed, just not on any official media sites. it was traumatizing for theo having her privacy breached like that, especially because instead of talking about how disgusting it was that someone would leak those photos when she was just a teen, gossip sites & fans alike were too busy talking about how her image was ruined. since she’d had such a clean, innocent reputation, people kinda forgot that... she was an actual person going through life growing up, and that she wasn’t perfect.

theo, being the optimist she is, was like hey you know what? this is my chance to stop making music i dont love. after what was probably her first truly honest convo with her parents, they agreed she should be free to figure herself and her art out. so for the remainder of her teenage years theo fell off the face of the music world....

only to pop back up in the modeling one ! like most celebrities, social media had a big say in this. since reputation wasn’t something theo had going for her anymore, what she did have was a hell of a following still and two famous parents ( not to mention ... shes tall JSBDJWBDWJ ) she did maybe one runway show before deciding she hated that. tbh she hated any modeling that felt too constricting, which is why she never ended up doing anything for big names & mostly does stuff for foreign brands & magazines.

she liked how much aesthetics had to do with modeling, and to some extent being a part of shoots satisfied that creative itch she had, but music was always her first love. theo really wanted to go back and revisit it, but she was scared the public’s reaction wouldn’t be what she hoped /:

so following in her mother’s footsteps, theo’s re entrance into the music scene was an ep ( 100% written, produced, edited, you name it, by her ) she released on the eve of her 18th bday basically explaining everything she went through with art. it was only four songs + an interlude, which would become the most talked about part of the whole thing because it was snippets of various reporters talking about that photo leak.

the public had mixed feelings ! unlike with what happened with her parents, not everyone was ready to “forgive” theo. and since she hadn’t done any promo for her music, or for her career as an artist independent from her parent’s famous label, it wasn’t like she was making crazy money and getting all this recognition. but !! she was insanely insanely happy, and that’s when she realized making music wasn’t something she did for other people, just something she liked to share, so what did it really matter if she could be more famous if she was an artist under her parent’s label ?

cue present day theo, model & singer, although the labels are pretty loose. although her music is getting way more recognition than it did three years ago, she’s still trying to do things independently from her parents, and she still has yet to become a chanel ambassador or anything crazy SDWBKWKFW. because of that she’s kind of garnered this new reputation for herself as one of those celebs that don’t really feel like celebs, like maybe she’s just like u except let’s be real she’s rich and her experiences are NOT universal even if her cute insta pic talking about ~her feelings~ in the caption makes u think they are

not even gonna lie to u guys....she is baby. i dont mean that in a uwu shes 20 but im gonna weirdly make her act like a child way im not a freak shes just baby ! like i mentioned earlier theo was a HUGE daydreamer growing up, and tbh she still is except now that’s she’s older her overactive imagination can kinda get her into trouble. a good example of that is the fact that since she’s so keen to see the silver linings in life and the bright sides, she can neglect the bad sides of people and situations so things still fit into her romanticized vision /: this was the cause for many heartbreaks in theo’s life, and she’s still guilty of doing this although she’s trying to work on it !

very much the kind of person to treat everyone like a friend ( that means strangers too ) until you prove you should be treated otherwise. it takes a lot for her to not fuck with you, so if she doesn’t like you then you probably did something to deserve it /: she’s always had a curious personality as well so it’s really easy for her to connect with people just because she’s constantly fascinated by what she doesn’t know about a person. sometimes it can make ppl uncomfortable just how casually she can have a deep convo, but she just never had that filter where she has to know you for 5 years before she opens up about her trauma </3 you know how when bp’s rose and red velvet’s joy had dinner for the first time rose made joy cry bc she was talking abt her family and stuff ? I'm at that point now where I'm just trying to finish as many songs as I can, not caring so much abt the quality bc otherwise I will never finish one. I still only have a few, I'm trying to learn the process and what works for me. But it's so encouraging to hear someone else talk abt this like I keep comparing myself to famous ppl I listen to and it feels like they just have a gift and I don't

dude, I have been comparing myself to artists I look up to constantly, ever since I got into music at fourteen, wondering why I’m not good enough. I think it’s normal. The truth is, when you stop listening so much to beginner’s self doubt, perfectionism, and in my case, chronic anxiety, everybody is the same. The people who are really good are really good because they sat down and fucked around with instruments long enough to understand them, the people who are really good are really good because they love what they do, and all of them wrote shitty songs in their late teens/early 20s/whenever they started out. I have(and still do) beat myself up for everything from writing too fast to writing too slow, for taking months long breaks because of mental health issues, for lyrics that my band laughed at, for only knowing how to play one instrument, the list goes on...But I comfort myself with facts like these:

PJ Harvey was asked about her first ever song in an interview from 1995 and that’s the closest I’ve seen her come to blushing; She said it was about a girl going on an adventure and that it was awful. She reiterated in a magazine that most of her earliest work was ‘terrible’ and heavily influenced by Irish folk music, meaning, apparently, that it was full of tin whistles. It took her years before she was comfortable playing her orginal music in front of other people(and if you watch her early Dry performances, she’s not even all that comfortable in the first place.) The important thing is, PJ Harvey hated her early songs.

Nick Cave said that he was ashamed of the Birthday Party’s discography up until Junkyard and that he didn’t like to think about those albums. Nick Cave hated his early songs- And Nick Cave is partially famous DUE to these early songs, go figure.

Courtney Love bashes Hole’s first album Pretty On The Inside nearly constantly, calling it ‘unlistenable’ and saying it was more about her persona being established than making good music. Courtney Love hated her early songs- and, once again, her band was given its name and image because of them.

I BEG you to listen to five seconds of David Bowie’s first album, which he doesn’t discuss.

If these people, who mean the world to me and have saved hoards of others from personal destruction, had given up bc they were Bad at a young and inexperienced age we wouldn’t have their music and it’s not an exaggeration to say that that would have ended in suicide for a big number of people. If you can get your ego in place, you can believe the same about your music, and the thing that’s going to keep you motivated more than anything else is Ego.

We live in a world right now where popular music lacks human hands and clumsiness and rawness and so the fact that both of us are, against the odds, composing music that still reflects those things is a rebellion. It’s important that we keep writing, not just because we deserve to be good songwriters because we care about it, but because for music to evolve there needs to be a constant underground of young people with limited skills trying their best. Plus, if we’re both lucky, we’ll end up saving people the same way we were saved and if it takes a few notebooks of three note trauma songs to get there then fine(besides, who doesn’t love a good three-note trauma song?).

But beyond the ‘glory’ of it(and I think to do anything artistic you have to romanticize it to a certain degree), I started songwriting seriously at the end of a bad relationship when I was sixteen, nearly seventeen. When that relationship ended, I wrote constantly. I wrote about everything. My main influences were Bikini Kill and The Runaways and I hadn’t developed my seriousness towards lyrics yet so anything went. I’d write three songs in a week, realize that two were bad and play the third one for my band only to get laughed at for writing something like “I swallow Clorox” which was a confessional thing about suicidal thoughts that hurt my feelings, but wasn’t articulated well.

I wrote Nirvana knock-off songs and I wrote Hole knock-off songs and I half finished at least one hundred different things and I have three notebooks filled with them, the latter half being the worst fake-Nick Cave writing I have ever read. From all of 2018, during which I probably wrote 30-35 songs, I have two that I would actually put on an album and three that I can remember/still like. Once I got my mental health under control, I did the same thing for the bulk of 2019. This stage you’re at is NOTHING TO FEEL BAD ABOUT. It’s like making stuff out of Play-Doh or fingerpainting. It’s FUN and you’re learning, Extremely Quickly, a million different skills that you’re going to need over the course of your life. Lyric writing, the classic verse/chorus/verse, how to invert that, experimental tactics, particular playing styles that you like, playing styles that you HATE, etc.

And the best part about it is that some of your songs are good! Some of them have good parts that you’ll take out later to put into better songs! You’re probably sitting on two or three good songs at the moment, maybe even more, maybe you’ve got a whole album of brilliant material and you just don’t know it. In thirty years your demos could work like Vashti Bunyan’s and be the proto-whatever of a new genre. I really don’t want to make you think that all your material right now is bad, because that idea has actually been super detrimental to me and is a shitty narrative pushed to push beginners. I’m saying that it’s OKAY for you to be bad, that even experienced people write bad shit, but that if you think you’ve written some bangers they deserve to be recognized as such.

To close, new phase that I was talking about, the quality over quantity phase, is definitely something I had to work up to. 90% of it is taking in enough new music to understand what you really want from yourself, and the rest of it is gaining enough confidence to willingly let other people hear what you do. I only started taking my shit this seriously in late December of last year because I knew people would be hearing it, and that has its set backs too: My perfectionism is crazy right now and I have to kick back against it all the time. The perks of getting to the point where you can hone yourself are that you build real relationships with your songs, and that you have some idea of what you want. But I also think that it’s healthy to go through the quantity over quality phase over and over again throughout the course of your career, because there’s no way to really write in a new style unless you keep going back to frenzied experimentation. If we both end up pursuing this long term, we’ll probably have to work on Finishing over Perfecting a million times over, and its best to make peace with it now.

I am so sorry that this is like. A million paragraphs but another important aspect of songwriting is procrastinating by being on tumblr so!!! You’re doing just fine. Keep up the good work, and feel free to talk to me or share music with me anytime. I hope this helps, or at least isn’t a boring read.

OHHHHHHH uhh. i dont rlly keep count of them??? like ... 25 prolly. my favorite is ... either mika or alice. mika is a .....loose girl. she has a lot of problems that shes bad at handling, and shes mostly based on myself. alice is a princess, and is very morally grey. i love them both, though alice is probably the more develeped one.

im doing all of them because i want to have fun and torture kayleigh (asks from here)

warning: it gets real fuckin dark fjdsfldsfhsf

1. What is one word to shut them up?

“Stop.” you wanna dig right to her core AND trigger an explosive cocktail of anxiety and RSD in her head that she most likely won’t even tell you about?? just say “stop” in a very annoyed tone

2. What is the thing they feel the most guilty about?

she still regrets cutting contact with her sisters for a year after poison pop broke up the first time because she thinks she could’ve used their support during that time in her life, and they were all hurt by it

3. What is the worst pain they’ve ever experienced?

being trapped in the car right after she and blue wrecked, with multiple broken bones and a lot of other minor injuries

4. Describe their worst nightmare.

dying physically alone, in a way that no one even knows she’s dead

5. List 3 fears; one “surface level” fear, one “repressed” fear, and one “deep dark” fear.

everyone she loves forgetting her (and doing better for it)

despite healing from a lot of her insecurity surrounding it, she still doesn’t like her tendency to get angry/sad very easily

flash cameras can send her into a panic attack if she’s not told abt it beforehand

she is NOT strong lmaooo she can be agile but she is not very good at physical labor

her need for validation, esp from the public

she doesn’t drink or smoke but music........music things will get her (songwriting at 2am, buying maybe just too many instruments, etc, etc)

12. Have they ever done something illegal? What was it?

she stole a pack of chips and a coke from a gas station on a dare, she’s broken into a motel pool with friends, broken into a condemned abandoned house. she did a lot of dumb things when she was a teenager/young adult lmao

i don’t like this question so i’m not going to answer it! :D

14. Are they prone to outbursts (of violence, extreme emotion… exc… )?

she is indeed prone to being extremely emotional, usually anger or sadness, esp bc of her RSD, but she’s learned to manage it over the years

15. Who do they hate the most?

exploitative assholes in the music industry

16. Is there anyone who makes them feel inferior?

no one purposefully makes her feel inferior, but her anxiety/lack of self esteem tends to get to her when she starts comparing herself to her friends (esp when it comes to things that arent music)

17. What sound always gives them a headache?

bells ringing. they had a system in her house growing up where her mom would ring a bell whenever she wanted them to come down for a meal or to go somewhere etc because they had such a large family and going to everyone individually would be a pain

but bc of her exec dysfunction, sometimes she wouldn’t come down at the bell and her mom would just keep ringing it until someone came and got her

now the sound of a bell ringing continuously grates on her nerves more than anything else

18. Is there a certain flavor that disgusts them?

black licorice. everyone hates black licorice, yeah, but like. she has a PASSION for it

19. Do they consider themselves ugly?

she doesn’t think she’s supermodel attractive but she doesn’t think herself ugly either; at least, not anymore

20. Do they consider themselves unlovable?

when things get bad, she considers a lot of parts of herself unlovable, esp her emotions and personal issues, but nowadays she tends to be a little more confident in herself

21. What is something that causes them great anxiety?

fucking things up in conversation

22. Do they have any mental illnesses?

yes, multiple! adhd, anxiety, and depression, all diagnosed

(skipping two questions that involved sexual assault out of personal comfort)

25. Have they ever been betrayed by someone they thought they could trust?

in middle school, she had a group of friends who completely turned on her in seventh grade after she had a mental breakdown; they basically told her she had “too much baggage” for them and didn’t wanna deal with her anymore

26. Have they ever been seriously injured?

she was in a serious car accident in 2011 with blue, and ended up breaking her arm, her leg, and a couple ribs. thankfully she (and blue!) came out of it with no long term injuries. she’s been seriously injured before that but that was the worst

27. How many times have they been in the hospital?

quite a few times! she was a pretty rough-and-tumble kid and got a few bad cuts/injuries as a kid, then when her mental health got worse she was checked into the hospital once as a teenager and another time as an adult; then she got into the accident, which had her spending a lot of time in the hospital, mostly for physical therapy and making sure her injuries were healing properly

28. Is there a certain type of person that disgusts them?

29. Does what they cannot see scare them?

yes!

30. Have they ever been bullied?

yes, all throughout school she got bullied for being a nerdy kid, for being an alternative kid, and towards the end of highschool for being queer (despite not even being out to herself)

31. Do they have self-confidence or self-image issues?

abso-fuckin-lutely

32. Do they have a bad relationship with their parents?

nope! she loves her mom and dad quite a bit, and they love her too! she’s incredibly close with her family, and her parents were the ones who fuelled her passion for music

33. Have they ever been in a relationship that didn’t work out so well?

most of her relationships before blue ended badly (granted, there was only a few of them!)

34. Have they ever self harmed?

yes; she’s cut herself before, quite a bit, although most people don’t know that. pretty much just blue and her sisters and ryka know

35. If they could change one thing about themselves, what would it be?

she’s at a point where she understands that even her flaws are part of her, and she doesn’t really have the urge to change herself anymore

that being said? if she could have horns - like massive black demon horns, not those weird plastic surgery skin horns people get - she would have those

36. Are they in control of their emotions, or are their emotions in control of them?

she’s wrangled her emotions by now, but for most of her life, they controlled her

37. Have they ever had their freedom taken away?

not really?

38. Have they ever been imprisoned?

she spent a night in county jail for breaking into an abandoned house with her friends lol

39. Have they ever been accused of something they didn’t do?

her sisters would always blame petty shit on her when they were younger because she was the biggest troublemaker lol

40. Do they often blame themselves for other people’s problems?

she tries not to anymore, but she often takes responsibility for others’ emotional states

41. Do they get sick often?

not really!

42. Are they comfortable with where they are in life?

absolutely; she has a wonderful family, an awesome career, and general stability

43. Do they wish that they could change their pasts?

she tries to live on the “no regrets” philosophy, but there are definitely things she would do differently (the way the break-up happened, bottling up all her emotions all the time, not getting mental health care until her late 20s, etc)

44. What’s one thing they wish they could do more often, but can’t?

spend time with her family. the band makes her very busy and although she will often drop everything to do things with/for them, she still wishes she could be there more often

45. What is the emotion they most commonly experience?

contentment!

46. Have they ever contemplated suicide?

absolutely

47. Have they ever gone so far as to attempt suicide?

yes, twice; once when she was in college (which prompted her dropping out), and another time right after the break-up

48. Is there anyone that they would willingly kill?

no, she hates the idea of killing anyone at all

49. If [name] was put into ______ situation, they’d rather die than live to see it through.

if her kids were taken from her and placed into foster care. despite being an adopted kid herself, she knows that the foster care system is most often traumatizing and abusive for the kids in it and she’d rather die than see her kids go through that without a chance at helping them or getting them back
