If you're boycotting them and people around you are also doing so, then good! But my twitter and tumblr are just filled with Pro-Palestinian posts and there are only few posts calling to boycott HP with only few engagements while posts about Mcdonald's and Starbucks have way more. Why is the Puma outlet in our local mall crowded as hell when it went on sale? The queue even exceeded the main door. People are still purchasing ink printers from HP. Why aren't people chanting "Free Palestine" outside of these companies' branches but people do so for Starbucks who isn't even funding Israel in the first place? Y'all are distracting the people from companies that are actually funding the genocide basically getting them off the hook. Y'all are treating this boycott as an internet trend when what yall should be doing is follow the BDS Movement but yall aren"t doing that. Look up "boycott hp" and "boycott starbucks" and see which got the most engagements. I'm not discrediting the Mcdonald's and SB boycott but a lot of people aren't aware or are even disregarding the boycott of the main targets because of it. All i want yall to do is LISTEN TO THE BDS MOVEMENT but yall aren't doing it. Don't lie and say that people make fuss about main target companies like HP and Puma as much as they do to MD and SB because i know you know damn well that's not what's happening. Again, BDS wants you to DIRECTLY BOYCOTT the main targets. Saying that Mcdonald's and Starbucks are the main targets are discrediting and disregarding BDS Movement's goals.

My Hot Take as someone who is part of the Syrian diaspora is that everyone on Tumblr should post less abt Palestine rn

Like posts about the atrocities happening in Palestine are literally the only thing on my dash and have been for weeks. This is the website that I come to for relaxation and to see fandom stuff and instead I am having constant anxiety attacks and PTSD flashbacks (from my studies of genocide and war) and just.

Posting about this stuff doesn't help anything. You aren't actually making things better for the people of Gaza. Spreading Awareness™ is a pretty useless goal- making more people look at death and suffering doesn't actually stop the death and suffering

I know people who are from Palestine and who have family there. My having panic attacks about their safety doesn't actually help them. Aside from contacting my congressional representatives, there isn't anything I can materially do for the people halfway across the globe, much in the same way that there is nothing materially that I can do for the people of Ukraine or the Uyghur people or the people of Syria. Whether or not I lost about it on Tumblr doesn't change that fact, it only destroys my mental health.

If you want actual facts about the genocide, Al Jazeera is free and does a damn good job reporting. They are also significantly more trustworthy than some rando on Tumblr or Twitter and will bring you the most updated information. Not that you knowing that changes anything

Unless you are part of the US government or are a lobbyist, there is basically nothing you can do here. Your distress will not help anyone. My distress will not help anyone. The US has long been an ally to Israel due to historical factors going back to the Holocaust and its own desire to have a military base in the Middle East and that is not going to change soon (not when 10/435 members of Congress support a cease fire)

But I'd like to encourage you all to support the Arabs in your community. Go find a middle Eastern restaurant or market and buy something! (Lots of people send money back home- by supporting middle Eastern immigrants you are likely directly supporting those in their home countries and refugee camps). Read some translated poetry or books, especially if you can buy something from a middle Eastern author. Learn some Arabic! Try an Arab recipe! Learn about our history or scientific contributions or art. You will not humanize us by only talking about our deaths, please celebrate our culture too.
