-----------------------------------------------------------
When Nishinoya Yuu is a child, he’s a coward.
He’s little, and there’s this ever present bundle of fear and anxiety writhing around in his chest. It means he’s scared, he concludes, and so he cries when he rides a bike for the first time, and then when he gets lost in the woods near his house, and then again when he comes across a dog bigger than he is.
It’s strange, he begins to think, as he grows. He’s sure that feeling must be his own, but sometimes he’s suddenly, explicitly happy, and sometimes when he thinks he should be happy, he’s so painfully sad that it aches in every fiber of his being.
When he’s eight, Yuu scrapes his leg from knee to mid-shin when he falls out of a tree. The pain is the first sensation he’s aware of, arm twisted awkwardly beneath him where it’d made a futile attempt to cushion his fall. Underneath it, concern spikes, bubbling with that familiar chill of anxiety. Yuu is too busy thinking about how much his arm and leg hurt to give it too much thought at the time.
Yuu is eight the first time he breaks his arm, and the cast itches so much that he’s tempted to tear it off the moment it’s on. Yuu is eight when he’s sitting in the passenger seat of his grandfather’s car, a cast on one arm and ice cream in his other hand. He thinks the scrape down his leg is going to leave a nasty scar, but it’ll look cool and he can tell people whatever he wants about its origin.
“You don’t seem excited about your ice cream,” his grandfather remarks with a little chuckle, lips tugging up.
Yuu huffs. “I am! I’m super excited!”
He thinks he is, at least. Yuu loves ice cream, and he always gets excited when he gets it, but that tugging little concern is still nestled deep in his chest and Yuu doesn’t really know what to do with it. He’s so used to it, like second nature, but somehow it feels foreign nowadays.
His grandpa laughs again. “I bet your soulmate is worried about you, always causing yourself trouble like this.”
Yuu stares back at him, ice cream halfway to his mouth. “Huh?”
“Your soulmate,” the man says again, “everyone’s got one. Not necessarily romantic, mind ya. You can feel their emotions. It’s a little inconvenient sometimes, but you miss it when it’s gone. You’re always hurting yourself, so your soulmate is probably worried about you.”
Yuu thinks about his grandmother. His memories of her are faint, at best. He’d barely been old enough to remember her face when she’d passed, but he remembers how strange his grandfather had acted after, like something was missing from the core of his being. Yuu thinks about the word  soulmate . There’s someone out there meant to be in his life specifically, and he’s meant to be in theirs. Yuu thinks about the little bundle of emotion in his chest, and he realizes that must be his soulmate.
He hadn’t thought to try and distinguish them until now, but it has him tracking his memories back as far back as he can, seeking that feeling in them all. Sure enough, the anxiety is ever present. Sometimes, it’s duller than others, muffled beneath other emotions, but it’s always there.
“I think my soulmate is a scaredy-cat,” Yuu announces, and then shrieks when his cold ice cream drips onto his exposed knee.
His grandfather laughs, and Yuu whines as he shoves the top of the cone into his mouth in a futile attempt to save the rest of it.
When he’s a child, Nishinoya Yuu is a coward. When he’s eight, his grandfather tells him about  soulmates  , and Yuu thinks  my soulmate is scared of everything.  It keeps him up that night, staring at the ceiling in a way that feels too ancient for a boy his age, but he’s come to a conclusion. If his soulmate is a scaredy-cat, then Yuu will just have to be the brave one for the both of them.
He tries to reach out to that little bundle of feeling with his resolve, wanting to sooth the turmoil there. It doesn’t change, but Yuu is determined. He’ll become strong enough for the both of them, and then he’ll protect his soulmate so they never have to worry again.
“From now on,” he tells the air, sitting up and jumping off his bed, “I’m going to be the bravest person ever! Then my soulmate will never have to worry again!”
His bravery starts by yelling past his bedtime. He tells himself that he isn’t scared when his mother shouts from the other room, he’s just being respectful by listening to her and crawling back into his bed, hiding under his blanket. If his heart is pounding in his ears, then that’s a secret between him and his soulmate.
With his new resolve, Yuu grows. He becomes bold and eccentric, loud and outspoken. He becomes a lionhearted boy, too much brilliance to fit inside a body as small as his remains. He becomes stubborn and strong-willed, never backing down from a challenge regardless of how much trouble it will get him into. Yuu embraces everything he has to offer, but he refuses to be sad.
That ever present pit of broiling emotions is constant, nestled deep in his chest like a second heart, and he doesn’t want to make his soulmate worry ever again.
Some days, it’s calmer than others. There’s times he nearly forgets it’s there, in the wake of some other hesitant, but excited emotion, and there’s times where it’s so strong that it wakes him even from a dead sleep. Those nights are the worst because he  knows  there’s nothing he can do as is, and his soulmate is having to suffer alone.
He tries to encourage them as best he can, wondering if they feel his emotions as strongly as he often feels their’s.
Yuu is in his last year of middle school when things begin to change. He’s taken to volleyball like a moth to flame. There’s something about being behind everyone like the final line of defense, the one everyone depends on to keep the ball in play; it’s thrilling, keeping his blood rushing in his veins and his heart pounding in his ears.
He wins an award, and he’s so full of pride that he nearly misses the faint little swell of happiness that comes from that bundle of feelings in the back of his chest. Maybe his soulmate does feel his emotions just as strongly.
The first time he meets Azumane Asahi, Yuu doesn’t think much of him. His hair is a little past his ears, curling up beneath the lobes and sticking up in the back like he’d recently been laying on it. His first impression is that Azumane looks as if he’s waiting for the entire world to come down on his shoulders. He easily dwarfs everyone, but he stands with his shoulders curled in, hands clasped complacently in front of him and gaze down, as if trying to avoid notice.
Yuu isn’t sure why, but it pisses him off, seeing someone who looks as big and strong as Azumane looking like such a coward.
He says as much to Azumane’s face exactly a week later.
Azumane balks. “What.”
Yuu puts his hands on his hips. “You’re huge and super strong, but you act like a total coward. You look like a skittish dog or something!”
“A dog…” Azumane visibly slouches lower.
Yuu would say his dejected expression is almost comical, if it hadn’t been the exact opposite of what he’d been wanting. Azumane reminds him of how he’d been when he was a child, anxiety ridden and glass hearted.
“Okay!” Yuu announces. “We’re gonna practice together!”
Azumane doesn’t even get out a response before Yuu is towing him back towards the court, determined to teach this boy the ways of reckless bravery and intense practice.
Yuu doesn’t know when or where he lost the plot, but somehow this becomes second nature. He finds himself seeking Azumane out in the hallway, barreling into the larger boy, or towing him behind himself from time to time. He meets Ryu and he meets Kiyoko; the former becomes his friend early on and both boys adamantly say they’re crushing on the latter.
It feels like a performance. Yuu knows Kiyoko isn’t his soulmate. She’s gentle and anxiously soft-spoken, but not in the same way that his soulmate feels like they should be. He doesn’t admit that maybe there’s this half formed idea about Azumane tucked away in the back of his mind, and everyone is better for it.
He wants to be sure. He has to be.
“I think I should trim my hair soon,” Asahi remarks offhandedly one day, when they’re leaving practice.
Yuu watches his fingers card through the wavy brown strands, a little contemplative frown fixed on his face. He tries to imagine Asahi with short hair like most of the others, and the image just won’t come to mind. Maybe he’s biased.
“No way, Asahi-san!” Yuu grins, reaching out to slap the other man on the back. “I think long hair suits you! It makes you look kinda wild, don’t you think? It’s cool!”
Asahi slouches into himself a little, curling a strand of hair around his finger. He hums noncommittally, allowing the strand to fall away, but he doesn’t comment on Yuu’s words. He just looks a little more thoughtful.
Yuu is only a little surprised when he really  looks  at Asahi one day and his hair is just past his shoulders. He’s got a little facial hair now, too, and something about it makes him feel more mature, older, like he’s finally growing into himself. Yuu takes a running leap onto his back the moment he sees him in practice that afternoon, and Asahi hardly sways beneath him.
The realization settles in; this isn’t going to last forever. He won’t always be able to be with everyone like this. Asahi has grown and filled out, fitting into the broadness of his shoulders. He’s steady and unyielding, and Yuu isn’t sure when he started to become something like this.
That pit of anxiety still lingers in his chest. It wavers, sometimes.
They go against Date Tech. Their defeat is crushing and miserable for everyone involved, but when Asahi doesn’t call out for the last spike, Yuu feels it like an anchor in the hollow of his chest. It’s painful, near suffocating, and he can see the sheer weight of it coming down on Asahi’s shoulders. Those negative feelings swirl up into his chest again, fought only by his own fury - fury at Asahi, for not calling for the spike.
Fury at himself, for not retrieving them.
He hates it.
“Why won’t you blame me?”
Yuu feels the anger before he witnesses it. This is his confirmation, he’s sure. There’s no doubt anymore; these emotions living alongside his own are Asahi’s. The first time he feels Asahi’s anger, it feels cold, like ice in his veins. There’s something sad about it, something self-sacrificing, like Asahi wants to shoulder everything and leave nothing to be spared for the rest of them. His fury comes like a wave of ocean water, painful when it enters his lungs.
Yuu turns on his heel. Asahi stands - no, Asahi hunches - in front of him. He looks like he had when Noya had first met him, shoulders curled into himself, back bent like the world itself is coming down on it. Maybe it is, this time. Yuu doesn’t know if Asahi has realized that they’re soulmates. Yuu doesn’t know if Asahi would even accept it.
Asahi doesn’t seem to be in a very accepting mood right now, and Yuu is in no mindset for motivation.
They fight. They fight before they’re even anything, before Yuu can say anything, before he can even confess to himself that he would have been willing to leave his soulmate behind for Asahi, even if the other boy hadn’t ended up being them. He doesn’t tell Asahi how he used to be a coward. He doesn’t tell him that the reason he works so hard and never stops moving forward is because he’d made a promise to both of them a long time ago.
He doesn’t tell Asahi that he’s terrified to lose him.
All he knows is that if Asahi’s anger is like ice, then his is like flames, raging and all-consuming. All he knows is that he’s furious, and he’s yelling, and then there’s a  snap , and suddenly everything goes cold. Asahi’s feelings drop to the pit of his stomach and become cold there, and Yuu feels like the tightrope he’s been walking has finally given way.
Ryu holds him back, and all he can do is watch Asahi walk away.
He doesn’t cry.
Asahi doesn’t show up for practice the next day, and his lack of presence doesn’t go unnoticed. Yuu corners him in the hall. He feels like this is starting to become a cycle now, arguing and fighting over trivial things. It’d be easy to solve if Asahi just had a little more faith, but Yuu knows better. He knows how Asahi feels too well.
Yuu doesn’t care what others think. He bleaches his hair because he thinks it looks cool. When people tell him he’s too loud, he gets louder. He refuses to be looked down upon and spoken over. He’s been in detention more times than he can count, but it never stops him from repeated offenses.
Yuu doesn’t care what others think, but when Asahi walks away from him, it feels final. It feels like the end of something that never began. Nishinoya Yuu never cries.
(The people in the hall that day are silent witnesses to his tears, but nobody says a thing about them.)
Yuu isn’t much for thinking, so he spends all of his time in suspension doing, instead. He works and works and works some more, trying not to think of Asahi turning his back on them. On him. All he can do is hope Asahi will come to his senses by the time Yuu is back.
He doesn’t. Yuu goes back, and Asahi is still gone, so he leaves again. He loves volleyball, but he won’t be a part of it if it means leaving Asahi behind. Asahi may believe that he’s unnecessary, but they all know better.
It isn’t until he’s staring at the broad expanse of Asahi’s back again in the practice match that he really  realizes,  and for the second time, he feels like he’s really seeing Asahi. He sees someone who is trying for the people he cares about, someone who is finally learning to try for  himself  and he thinks  that’s all I wanted.
They fix the broom together.
“We’re soulmates,” Yuu tells him, so abruptly that Asahi’s surprised flinch dislodges the two pieces again.
Asahi glances down. “I know.”
Yuu stares at him. “What.”
“I know,” Asahi says again, gaze soft and hesitant. “I’ve known since we met. You aren’t exactly quiet about your emotions, y’know. I never said anything because you liked Shimizu. You deserved better than someone like me.”
“Asahi-san,” Yuu intones, “you’re the  only  person I’ve ever liked.”
“What.”
“Oh my god.”
When Asahi laughs, it lights up his whole face. Yuu stares for a long moment, watching Asahi’s shoulders tremble. He feels Asahi’s relief wash over him like a second skin, settling into his bones themselves. The warmth of his joy is like a blanket.
“Well,” Asahi says, “I guess we’re both a little dumb then, huh?”
“To be fair,” Yuu huffs, “I didn’t realize till after the Date Tech match.”
Asahi laughs again, and Yuu thinks that everything is going to be okay after all. Asahi is finally starting to have some sort of belief in himself, and while Yuu knows his doubt and anxiety won’t go away overnight, they’re taking baby steps.
And if Ryu and Daichi give Suga and Kiyoko ten dollars each when they admit their newest revelation, then nobody is any the wiser.

People are arguing about Ryuji being sexist on Twitter (or even if what he does wrong should be an issue compared to “P5′s bigger issues”) and I have thoughts. Esp since you know me, I’m a big supporter of talking about P5′s faults both big and small, and the small ones don’t need to be ignored in favor of the big ones! We all have time on this earth to get through them all fairly! 8U
Now, I do like Ryuji (except when he does certain things then....he goes down hard on my list AT THE TIME, but all in all still ranks higher than chars I just straight up hate, then he goes back up my list once that’s over). Now I’mma provide a strawman (not representing anyone, this is stuff I’ve seen in the past tho it is being repeated, but I need a pretend person to bounce this off of, plus screw twitter I type a lot). tho I guess “myself” is kind of a strawman (considering I have a split with Ryuji, you can easily pretend I’m also arguing with myself):
Fans: I can’t believe Ryuji is being called sexist. Me: I mean it’s kinda fair.  F: No it’s not you just hate Ryu and Chariots! M: Odd we’re involving Chariots cause in general I like them and they are one of my favs arcanas. But no, Ryu is a char I like in P5, fav PT boy tbh. I still think it’s valid if people don’t like him tho. F: There’s no reason to not like him tho! He sacrifices himself! Loves his mom! Knows how to navigate consent! M: Yes he sacrifices himself when he just met you in Kamo’s palace. Tried to defend his teammates against Kamo, and still tries to against CoOp!Lil’Kamo despite how his ex teammates treat him. Still stands up to Kamo despite everything. Takes the dangerous running job in Mada’s dungeon. Loves and respects his mom, and can usually tell if someone else is bothering a girl (aka Anne) F: Exactly! What’s there to hate? M: Despite the fact he can tell when another guy is bothering Anne and can be pretty chill on consent, he also just blows past it. He peeps on her in the pyramid scene. Makes sexual comments towards Anne, even doing a breast grabbing motion. Was ready to basically jump a sex worker (Sadayo) with MC and Mishima. Got the girls into bikini’s for Shido’s palace. Wanting to use his status as a PT to get girls (in hindsight that’s.....kind of a power imbalance when I think about it). He’s also pretty blasé at one point while Anne is freaking out of about her stalker which......rubbed me the wrong way and was weird of him but that’s there too.  F: Well if you have issues with him perving on Anne then you should have issue with Mona too! And what about the MC? He was there for Sadayo too! M: *insert that one twitter meme where the guy talks about saying you like something on twitter and someone else will be like ‘so you dislike *unrelated thing*’ and the guy is like ‘no that’s a completely separate conversation!* M: No we are talking about Ryu, not Mona/MC. But if we must, Mona perving on Anne is one of the main reasons I dislike him. I also don’t like MC, possibly because I find that Ryu’s good traits leak through a lot more than MC (and MC can be even more hypocritical). I can dislike all the actions of every character all at once, I can multi task. I’m good at it. But back to Ryu, what are your thoughts that I brought up. F: ....... M: Maybe calling him “sexist” is a bit strong, but he does have shitty scenes. And I know some other Anne fans might dislike it (some obvie don’t have a problem with it). And that’s valid. Why is it he gets a free pass to harass a sexual harassment victim but no one else can? It sends off a bad message. It’s very crass of him. F: Ok but what’s with calling him dumb and loud???? M:............ that’s...that’s part of his character tho.... F: Yeah but why hate him cause of that???? M: *blinks* Cause it can be annoying? Like as a character it can annoy me at times. But what really sets me off is the why, aka the plot progression. The game needs Ryu to be loud to out us as PT. But it makes no sense for him to be that reckless esp since his bro could be in trouble because of that. Going back to the character, as much as it is illogical and only makes sense to push the narrative forward, it makes the character come off as.....crass. Which sucks but it is what it is, that’s his character.  F: But the person who originally started this/made the first statement is bad!  M: ....so? A blind boar can still find a few truffles or whatever that saying is. Sometimes “shitty” people are right, and sometimes “good” people are wrong. I don’t know the user so I dunno what they’ve also said, but they have a right to dislike Ryu. Same as people having a reason to dislike Anne. Or any other character. Either because of their design, the characters actions/words, the way Atlus writes them. All valid. I get they didn’t believe that Ryu has good points, or why people would like him, but obvie they either didn’t see his good points or weighed his bad points more heavily against him. That’s fine.
#some of this happened with me on twitter#some of this memories from the confessions blog#so really twitter is just regurgitating it#silly talks#ryu and anne really get screwed by the narrative it sucks#sadly anne's issues mostly stem from ryu or mona (sometimes MC) after kamo#ryu issues stem from his coop and the shido dungeon#there's also the whole mona incident which is valid too#i hate mona but ryu really comes in with a bat to mona's insecurities#ryu we've learnt from Mako that you shouldn't say the word 'useless' cause then ppl will run off and do stupid things!#sorry i'm a bit annoyed cause they're acting like i don't get his character cause I do#i like him but I also get why people don't like him#i don't like the idea of saying 'we can't talk about this issue because there's 'bigger issues' to talk about'#because that's dismissive as fuuuuuuuudge and i'm all for talking about every shitty instance#i think they're just mad cause of the stupid twitter poll that happened recently (frankly we'll only get accurate information once we're#allowed to vote for who we HATE on top of who we LIKE cause that poll just tells us#this is how many ppl LIKE this character over other's is all)#but yeah chill out about the popularity polls it's whatever (I say despite dancing everytime I see P3/4 out pace P5 in a poll involving all#i'm interested how P3/4 can still top P5 at times (I think my memory is referring to a PQ2 era thing or maybe it was 20th anni been awhile)#that's all I swear dklfjsfkalfjk#also sorry I haven't been on work got crazy

PLAYLIST SHUFFLE TAG!
Okay, so @viterbofangirl tagged me in this and I need to start learning to post my own shit, so what the hell, why not?
Rules: you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to! put your favorite playlist on shuffle and list the first 10 15 songs, then tag 10 people. no skipping!
(I couldn’t stop at 10 so I added 5 more, sue me)
I have very random music taste and I listen to my music on shuffle alot, so I made a playlist of the ones I like the most (that way I don’t hafta skip 150 songs to get to the one I feel like) so I’m gonna use that one.
1) History of Violence - Theory of a Deadman
Hoo boy starting off light huh?.... Yeah so, I was in the drive thru at Sonic when I first heard this on the radio and was immediately like “holy shit”. Instead of like metaphors and poetic subtlety, it’s just straight up like “here’s a poor abused woman who resorted to murdering her shitty boyfriend/husband cuz she couldn’t take it dum dum dum”. Even though the actual situation is not the same, this song is perfect for getting across the internal issues and turmoil of my character Mikey. Its so perfect I’m even planning to animate something for it...... if I ever get around to learning animation that is.....
2) The Vengeful One - Disturbed
Two songs in and I look kinda emo.... But hey this song is soooooo cathartic! I love me a good heavy rock song, and the drums and electric guitar are perfect for my ears to absorb. This song gives off a feeling of overwhelming power mixed with a coldness and disdain for the bad in the world. Obviously, thats not my usual temperment, but its an interesting one to explore! Especially when I’m trying to get into the head of characters that exude that like my OCs Spark or Ryu. Plus its fun to sing in the car X)
3) Enter Sandman - Metallica
Okay this one is just a classic! Same thing with the drums and guitar they both slap SOOOOO GOOD. I don’t really associate this song with any of my characters or fandom favorites, but it DOES give me a super strong urge to learn the drums. EXXXXXXXXIT LIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT! OFF TO NEVER NEVERLAND!!
4) We Are Giants - Lindsey Stirling ft. Dia Frampton
I don’t really to listen to music by band or artist, but I LOVE Lindsey Stirling!!! She’s probably my favorite musician! This is such a good song, especially for someone like me. Its a positive song that talks about feeling alone in a crowd and unimportant to the world, but how you really do matter and shouldn’t be afraid to dream big and shoot for the stars. It really speaks to me and the vocalization is so good (especially for singing), not to mention the official music video is animated and AMAZING!
5) Cetus - Lensko NCS
I dunno if anyone knows this song, but damn its good. Its one of those Royalty-Free songs that people look up for their channels, which is how I found it in the first place, but I loved it immediately. Its a peppy 8-bit electronic bop that turns a little Irish jig at the end and honestly I think if I ever start an animation channel I’m totally gonna use it! (Also go support Lensko he make good beats!)
6) Sanctuary - Utada Hikaru
I did not grow up with Kingdom Hearts, and only played KH2 within the past year n’ a half. But good God, the moment that Cinematic Opening came on and this song started playing I swear I astral projected into a daze of feelings without names. I know that “Simple and Clean” is the quintessential Kingdom Heart song that gives everyone feelings, but IMHO Sanctuary blows it out of the water. As beautiful as the animation was, or how curious the occasional backwards lyrics are, or how weird it is having high-res Goofy and Donald in what is essentially an anime opening, I really can’t be distracted from this song when I play.
7) Chemical Plant Zone (Rock Remix) - Zerobadniks
Chemical Plant Song is like, one of the TOP Sonic songs by popular vote (and we know how awesome the Sonic series is musically so thats saying something!), but I could never quite vibe with the normal 8-bit version. I think I first heard this as someone’s ringtone and was immediately like “THATS PERFECT THATS EXACTLY HOW I NEED IT!”. The rock makes the song soooo much better and honestly gives the song the perfect vibe. Unfortunately, it took FOREVER to find cuz none of the Rock Covers of this song were the right one. In fact, tbh, I’m not even sure whether Zerobadniks is the correct artist..... that’s just who everybody was crediting when I found it.
(imma include the link i found since its a little hard to find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqJiZEM6aPI )
8) The Wolf - SIAMES
YOU WANNA TALK ABOUT ANIMATED MUSIC VIDEOS???? THIS IS A GOD-TIER ANIMATED MUSIC VIDEO. I found the video first, and seriously, if you haven’t seen it YOU NEED TO!!! The beat works perfectly with the images on screen and the story being portrayed is really intriguing, with the lyrics adding to atmosphere without necessarily describing the visuals shown. Even without the animation, the song itself is a banger. It bring to mind the feeling of intense motion forward, but unable to decide whether its movement TOWARD something or AWAY from something. I love listening to this on a nighttime drive.
9) Burn the House Down - AJR
If you ask me, the best way to make a pop song better is to add either violins or trumpets. For this song, it was definitely the trumpets that first caught my attention, and the rest of the song kept me listening. I don’t really know how to describe the vibe of this song, and I don’t have a specific character or story in mind when I listen to it, so its a little hard for me to talk about it. I think the best way I can describe this song and what draws me to it is a feeling of nonchalant go-with-the-flow attitude to shenaniganry. Almost an undertone of “We’re hooligans in a situation that we probably should get out of, but hey we’ve got life and each other so why worry?” At least that’s the closest I can get to a verbal description heh...
10) Slim Pickens Does the Right Thing and Rides the Bomb to Hell - The Offspring
DANCE, FUCKER, DANCE, LET THE MOTHERFUCKER BURN!!!
So this also has a KICKASS animated music video, but its technically combined with the song “Dividing by Zero”. Now the video works SO well with both, and the shifting artstyles reflect the differing tones of the songs PERFECTLY. However, I have a preference for both the animation and the song on the Slim Pickens half. Its fun to listen to and sing at the top of your lungs and its SO CATHARTIC. Again I cant really describe what my head does when I hear it, but I think you can probably feel a similar vibe if you watch the music video.
11) No Heaven - DJ Champion
The first time I finished the original Borderlands, I had been playing for days on end, had just finished a long battle with the Destroyer, and sitting back relieved to have beaten it and reflecting on how much I had enjoyed the adventure. Then this song started playing. For what I believe was forty minutes this song looped on my TV while the credits rolled. By the time the credits finished I was pulling up the song to listen to again! What an absolutely PERFECT cherry to add to this experience. This song perfectly encapsulated the chaotic, trigger-happy, morally ambiguous craziness that I had enjoyed and absorbed in this game. Every time I hear it now, I imagine myself in the wastelands of Pandora, driving haphazardly across the sandy dunes as my companions and I shoot and blow up everything in sight. You know, living the dream.......
12) Hit & Run (Wolfgang Lohr Remix) -  The Electric Swing Circus
I fucking LOVE electro-swing! The electronic beats and rhythm blend so well with the wild and energetic freedom of swing. A lot of electro-swing gives me a vibe of wild movement, reckless abandon, and freedom from constraint. I think this song melds all of these feelings the best! As the last song might have indicated, despite my general nice and sweet temperament, there is a part of me deep down that is an absolute gremlin secretly enamored with chaos, insanity, and a general disdain for law and authority X). But whereas anything Borderlands related has a more “morality is an illusion blowing shit up is real” air about it, this song is far more peppy. More of a “good-hearted but insane” type of chaos, like an 100mph car chase where you end up sailing over the train tracks JUST as the train passes.
.... I may have gotten a bit off track lol
13) Kickstart my Heart - Motley Crue
I love this song, but I have to be VERY careful when and where I listen to this. I love songs that make me feel like I’m going a million miles per hour, like I’m gotdam Sonic the Hedgehog. Unfortunately, I may or may not have had multiple instances of listening to this song in the car and abruptly realizing that I’m going like 15mph above the speed limit...... So yeah, regardless of absolutely perfect it feels to play this song while speeding down a nearly empty highway, please be careful and drive responsibly!!!
14) I’m Born to Run - American Authors
Imma just up and say it. This song is a Sonic song; like not like actually from the series but a song for the character. This song encapsulates Sonic as a character better than some of his ACTUAL THEMES (and remember Sonic music are bangers!). Its a song about freedom, living life as it comes, and not letting anything slow you down. Frankly I’m surprised they didn’t make this song FOR the Sonic series, or even the movie! Speaking of which, ironically I heard this song right after watching the Sonic movie in theaters, so yeah there’s no way I can associate it with anything else.
15) Opa Opa - Antique
Oh, what a PERFECT way to end this list! This may be one of my absolute favorite songs of all time! I don’t remember exactly how I found this song... I think I had just relistened to Dalar Mehndi’s “Tunak Tunak Tun” and was looking for other catchy non-english songs and BOY HOWDY I found one! I know nothing about the band or what the song’s about (its in greek and i dont speak it), but this song is just a masterpiece of retro, pop, and dance sounds. This song feels like the musical and lyrical manifestation of dance and movement. I really REALLY wish I could dance JUST so I can express how happy and free this song makes me feel! This is the BEST song for me to end this list with!

Ask meme: 45, 46, 48 for shophil and/or teriyaki.
Yay for Team W! (Putting under a cut since it’s so long)
45. Give each character an element.
Philip: I think this one is pretty obvious. His most compatible Memory is Cyclone, the Windy Memory. TV Tropes put it this way:  “The element of change and movement; unpredictably calm one moment and flying into a tempest the next. The quickest of the elements, but sometimes seen as physically fragile or lacking in raw strength.” I think it’s pretty appropriate for Philip, especially as his character grows in the series.
Shoutaro: This was actually tough to put down, but I think the element that most befits him is Love. (Yeah, cheesy as that sounds.) He has so much compassion and empathy even for total strangers, and his very philosophy of “Hate the crime, not the criminal” embodies this. Everything he does goes back to his love for his city, the people of his city, for his friends, and his partner.
Akiko: Fire. She’s hot-headed, short-tempered and she’s not afraid to confront anyone who got in her way. But she also has a great amount of passion for the things she cares about- her friends, her family, the clients in her care, and the legacy her father left behind.
Ryu: Steel. It kinda made sense to me because of his character arc. Before his character development, he had this edge to him that quickly dulled once his family’s murder is brought up. But through interacting with the others, his earlier brashness was tempered and he gained true strength, a core that wasn’t easily destroyed.
46. Give each character a Pokemon.
Philip: Abra. Abra is mostly known for its move Teleport, which will come in handy if Philip needs to quickly flee, or if Philip passes out when he transforms without anyone to guard his body. And it also evolves into Alakazam, which has that ridiculously high IQ that matches his own.
Alternatively, he could have a cat-type Pokemon, which would be “Mikku”.
Shoutaro: Shoutaro would probably like to have some kind of badass ‘mon, like a Lucario or a Gallade, to fit in his “hard-boiled” persona… but let’s be real, he probs has something cute and fluffy, like an Eevee or a Skitty. Actually, yes, Actual Cat Whisperer Shoutaro would totally have a Skitty. Probably one that was abandoned, and just followed him home one day, much to everyone’s amusement.
Akiko: Like Shoutaro, she’d favor something a little cute. A little girly. Maybe one of the Jigglypuff line.
Now that I think of it, I do remember one of the Pokemon anime specials where there was a Marill with a penchant for hitting people who ignore it with her tail. So I’d give Aki that specific Marill. They can team up and hit Dopants and Shoutaro alike!
Ryu: Garchomp. It’s a dragon-type land shark that looks scary but is actually very loyal to its trainer. Plus, Garchomp was partially inspired by a jet, and Jet is one of the Gaia Memories Ryu has on hand (he uses it with the Engine Blade).
48. Give each character a super power.
Philip: Technically, his power over the Gaia Library counts, but if I were to give him another power, I’d give him technopathy. I think the latter ability goes well with the former- he can simply look up whatever he needs to solve his problem, and instantly create it. Sort of like how the Prism Bicker can sync to a Dopant’s exact weakness after CycloneJokerXtreme looks it up in the Gaia Library, but Philip is creating whole new gear (which he canonically does).
Shoutaro: Okay, super weird, but @sailor-cresselia has this theory that Shoutaro has some minor reality warping powers, and I fully buy her theory. (I mean. He did somehow summon that yeti during the Jewel arc. A real one, since Aki saw it too.)
Alternatively, he could have some empathic powers ala Raven from Teen Titans- being able to detect emotions will greatly help his detective work and might help him be less reckless since he already knows if the suspect or client has bad intentions.
Akiko: I’d give her super strength. For one thing, it’d be absolutely hilarious to see her whacking people around and sending them flying, like her successor Hina would. Secondly, it makes sense since she’s regularly having to carry around a guy who’s a head taller and has at least a few kilos on her.
Ryu: He has his resistance to Dopant attacks, which was why he was chosen to be Accel to begin with. Otherwise…
I’d give him shapeshifting abilities. I mean, he already turns into a motorbike. Why can’t he turn into anything else?
