Underrated aspects of Dionysus: Theater and war
While Dionysus is famous for being the god of wine and madness ,many forget that he's more that meets the eye. One of the most important and regular things is the theater.
The theatre was dedicated to Dionysus, whose festivals were the driving force behind the development of Greek theater.
At the same time, while he's not a god of war, that doesn't mean he's not capable of that:
In Book 13 of Dionysiaca, Zeus sends Iris to the halls of Rhea, ordering Dionysus to make war against the impious Indians if he wants to join the gods on Olympus. Rhea gathers the troops for Dionysus.
Many have been still underestimating him, even though he is a complex character with many traits and layers, he's worth more recognition than the basic stereotypes they put in his name.
#many who claim that he's not for war in Hades 2 or being reduced to a laugh stoke in other adaptations#it's not true#he's not a goofy caricature to laugh but he's a deity to be equally admired as the rest of the Olympians#his nature is the wild animalistic instincts#if his followers the Maenads have the power to tear up skin who says Dionysus doesn't have those powers? they literally come from him#also the theater is the most important aspect of him as well#he's an entertainer as well#and yes that's him holding Ariadne's hands in the first pic^^#also i wanted to see Dionysus in armor xd#my art#dionysus#dionysus deity#greek mythology#greek gods#dionysiaca#dionysus x ariadne#art#hellenic polytheism#ariadne#krita
