US Open MD R1: Andrey Golubev/Roman Safiullin def. Aleksandar Kovacevic/Nicolas Moreno de Alboran [WC] 6-4, 6-3 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 Eurosport
A. Kovacevic/Moreno de Alboran’s balance became questionable when their second serves went problematic, as strong as their first serve sounded. This was an opportunity for A. Golubev/Safiullin to engage them in several rallies, where their point construction steadily stood out together thanks to the involvement of both their baseline and their net games. As a result, they could convert 75% of their 4 opportunities to break, winning 13 more points than A. Kovacevic/Moreno de Alboran.
Speaking of their service games, the first serves played an important role to set up the tone afterward. A. Golubev/Safiullin landed 65% of their first serves, and stood out from there by winning 9% more points than A. Kovacevic/Moreno de Alboran. The latter’s erratic second serves (which depended on accuracy, at times), did not help anything under pressure, which resulted in occasional double faults and enabled A. Golubev/Safiullin to assert even more pressure, hence their outstanding point constructions.
In the second round, A. Golubev/Safiullin will face the sixth seed Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden, who defeated Christopher O’Connell/Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 6-2 in the first round yesterday (local time). Knowing Bopden, who spent most of the season together this year, it could be an interesting match where their rally tolerance and point construction would be tested in general. The net game would be as important as ever, while maintaining more balance would be another thing. Another fun encounter awaits!

hiii, hope you're doing well!! maybe thoughts of your sailors on elias?
aaaaa sorry it took me so long to respond! life’s been kinda crazy but i’m doing pretty good :)
Nik: Nik likes him well enough! (but I mean Nik likes pretty much everyone) They enjoy having someone they can blabber at talk to at the beginning, even if they don’t have very much in common. If/when he finds out about Elias and Finn, Nik might get a bit protective of his new big brother, but I don’t think that would last very long, especially when they see how happy Finn is.
Enok: I honestly don’t know how much they’d talk to each other. They’re both so anxious, idk if they’d even be able to start a conversation.
Andrey: It might take him a bit, but Andrey would warm up to Elias. He might accidentally join Sasha in giving Elias some good solid life advice though his style would have a lot more sailing metaphors slfjskdj.

hello !!! sorbet union. do you know of any interesting contemporary russian artists/poetry/cinematography/literature i should look into? i wanna know how the federation is doing on the artistic front
Omg hii bestie yes. I don't read much poetry and I don't read any modern literature but I'm a huge art fan. My favorite contemporary russian visual artists are:
Mikhail Golubev. He's from St. Petersburg and his paintings are very dream like. Here are a few of my favorites.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also like Vasily Shulzhenko. His paintings are more harsh and dark and they look almost grimy. Here are a few of my favorites from him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also really like Andrey Kuzkin. He's from Moscow and does performance art as well. He also makes sculptures from bread. Here are a few.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for cinema, I don't watch a lot of post soviet russian movies. I do have Brother 1997 on my watchlist. I'm a huge Andrei Tarkovsky fan so I definitely have to start watching more post soviet films.
Music I'm not sure, I don't know what genres you like. Ic3peak is ok, monetochka is ok, I have listened to a few Elena Frolova songs and I really liked them. She's a poet too. I like Alla Pugacheva. A lot of people listen to мы and I've heard some bi-2 but they're a belarusian rock band.
That's all I have right now but if you like any older stuff or want to talk about arts you do like you should definitely dm me and we can. I love love love talking about soviet cinema and art and literature.

A. Kovacevic/Moreno de Alboran had their chances to start the second set stronger, but it was once again on Moreno de Alboran’s serves. Other than his risky second serves, which ended up to be a double fault that resulted into A. Golubev/Safiullin’s second break point by then, which the latter pair capitalized properly by baiting the former pair into a net exchange, which ended with Moreno de Alboran’s failed volley to break early 1-0. A. Golubev/Safiullin continued by holding their service game 2-0. Interestingly, there was one moment two games after when Moreno de Alboran’s forehand return ace resulted in a break point creation, but A. Golubev/Safiullin’s service games were too solid for them to finally hold 3-1.
Four consecutive games later, A. Golubev/Safiullin used their baseline depth to put more pressure on A. Kovacevic/Moreno de Alboran. They started the first game with a rally that ended with Safiullin’s smash, before another erroneous service game did not help anything, except setting A. Golubev/Moreno de Alboran’s match points. There were lesser chances for them to save, as A. Golubev’s cross-court forehand executed from the middle from the court immediately converted it to take the second set 6-3, thus securing their second-round berth.
