Summary: Andrew reflects on his financial situation and his relationship with Ruby

I felt like fucking shaking right now. I was sitting beside Ruby, her parents and her younger sister at the most expensive restaurant in town. I look very ratty compared to them. I noticed that Ruby, her mom, and her sister were wearing real diamonds, her dad’s suit was designer and so was her mom’s dress. I looked so out of place sitting next to Ruby Even though I was wearing my nicest clothes, the ones I only ever wore to church, they were still old and cheap compared to everyone in this restaurant.

“Are you ok, Andrew?” Ruby whispered. She was holding my hand underneath the table while her dad was telling a story. I was zoned out, I almost didn’t notice. 

“Yeah, I’m fine.” She smiled. She always looked at me like I was worth something, like I wasn’t as inferior as I really am. Her parents and her sister were always very nice: her parents always invited me out to dinner, to events they threw, they were very generous people, and made sure to include me in everything.

I stood in front of my house and started analyzing everything. I live in the poorest neighborhood in town and you can tell by the way the house looked. I walked in, Mary as sitting out the lanterns and candles; power was too expensive right now so we use these to save money, and Christina was washing the dishes. They looked pissed when I walked in. 

“Where’s Mom and Dad?” 

“They’re working, they have real jobs unlike your new family.” Mary said. She and Christina had been so mad lately. They barely knew Ruby or her family, but they hated them. They were both jealous of the fact they had money and we didn’t. I understood, I really did, but they didn’t even seem like they wanted to get to know Ruby.

“It’s almost like you’re embarrassed of us or something. I noticed you walked home. What, are you too scared for Ruby to see how you live”. I hated to admit it, but I was scared for her to see it. Ruby was so kind, she was understanding, she’s never acted spoiled or bratty but we live completely different lives. She never had to worry about money, she drove a brand new Mustang, she always had the newest clothes, she had a fucking trust fund! My life is the complete opposite!

“You and Ruby might not even fucking last and you’re ditching us to go play rich kid with your little girlfriend! Mom and Dad are out working 3 jobs, we might lose the house, we can barely afford power and water, we’re struggling to buy groceries! They’re scared you fucking hate them because you’ve seen how Ruby lives and maybe you’re proving that fear right. Ruby and all her friends are prisses anyway." Christina said. 

“I’m not having this conversation with you, Christy. Ruby’s so fucking sweet to everyone and you would know that if you or Mary ever gave her a chance.” 

I walked away and laid on my bed. I love Ruby, she’s made me so happy but the idea of inviting her ever, inviting anyone over was daunting. Most of friends were middle class, they didn’t have to worry about financial shit, their houses looked so nice, they didn’t have to worry about this and I don’t know how to explain that to people. I couldn’t handle people being appalled or repulsed by how I lived, I just couldn’t.

Replying back to the "Ruby giggling" bit earlier, I wasn't nagging at Whitley at all or did I want him to leave! Poor boi! But I do understand where you're coming from. I was just pointing out how Oscar could internally smile at Ruby's giggling because of how adorable it is! Y'know, mini Rosegarden bit where Oscar is the only one glancing over at Ruby whereas everyone else stares at Weiss.

Hello again anon-chan. And no worries, I know where you were coming with your last message and I’m sorry if I used that to unload my disappointment with the Whitley side of the episode. I just personally did not enjoy that part of the episode. Sorry ^^); But imagining Oscar smiling at Ruby giggling is indeed pretty sweet. It actually makes me wish he hadn’t just picked up one of the hors d’oeuvres for only himself. Would’ve been sweeter if Oscar had actually snagged two of the Oreos on a stick and after munching on one, he passes the other to Ruby so both Rosebuds are munching on snacks just observing what’s going on between the Schnee-siblings.

Some folks seem to believe that CH8 is actually part of a two parter episode so hopefully there will be more to come from the Schnee Dinner Party portion of the season. If that is the case then I’ll be interested to see what’s to come of the story from here. 

Once Weiss returns to everyone with the flash drive containing evidence of her father’s meeting with Watts, I wonder how long it will be before word of what happened down in Mantle reaches Atlas. 

Since Robyn was also present at the dinner meeting, I wonder if she’ll be informed by one of her Huntresses about what’s happening down in Mantle. I wonder if all the panic and concern regarding the heat down from the People of Mantle might spark another Grimm attack. Who knows?

Then again, back in V7CH7, Weiss mentioned something all the lines of the Schnee Dust Company being in charge of the heating grid for the kingdom. I wonder if this is inclusive of Atlas too. I know we saw the heat go off in Mantle but is it going to attack Atlas as well?

Then there’s also the bit where Oscar walked with the Relic of Knowledge. I’mcurious if something is going to come out of that; possibly between him andRuby. All the moments with Oscar and Ruby standing next to each other have been cool but for me, I’m more anticipating these two talking to each other at some point. 

I want these Rosegardening Rosebuds to talk so Oscar could possibly pull up Ruby because her recent behaviour is troublesome and it’s only going to go further downhill from here. So before that happens, I want Oscar and Ruby to talk to each other.

andrew def keeps Ruby's picture in his wallet and he always tells people "my wife is literally the prettiest person ever omg!!", he def brags about her achievements and how much he loves her.

Defffff!! Andrew has a photo booth strip of them in his wallet and he literally loves talking about Ruby. He thinks that Ruby is the prettiest and smartest person he's ever met and he loves bragging about her.

I wanted to talk about Ruby and Andrew today so here's some hcs about them (I know headcanons isn't really the right word but idk what else to call it).

Ruby and Andrew met through their mutual friend Andrew's closest friend, Dylan. Ruby started becoming friends with him in 10th grade and when they were hanging out, D introduced them

Andrew kind of fell for her first. He thought she was really cool and he wanted to hang out with her more so they became friends. They got together when in 11th after Ruby realized she liked him too

He feels like Ruby is really the only person who can completely "put up" with him. He didn't know he had ADHD at that time but he knew he could easily become stressed, overwhelmed, he can't always regulate his emotions, etc. He's gotten used to people kind of distancing themselves from him because of that but she was always so understanding about it and he really loved that about her

Their language is always acts of service and gift giving. They loved getting eachother little things they saw when they were out shopping or making eachother gifts.

Andrew makes Ruby glitter roses every year on her birthday

He really loves cars and collecting things so she always bought him model cars to add to his collection

They got married when they were 23 and their first dance song was And, I Love Her by The Beatles

Their first date was at a carnival and Ruby still has the huge stuffed penguin he won her

what was Ruby and Andrew's wedding like?

Ruby and Andrew eloped in Las Vegas. They brought Summer there with them, she was 10 months old and they put her in a white baby dress to match with their outfits.

These were Ruby and Andrew's outfits. Ruby chose the dress because it reminded her of a ballet dress and she wanted to tie in her passion with marrying Andrew.

You mentioned that Andrew and Ruby were highschool sweethearts and they were dating since the end of junior year. Do you think that they would've been on and off like Lennon and Olivia were?

No, they were really healthy and they weren't really messy like how Lennon and Olivia were as teenagers.

i know that sometimes when a traumatic event happens with a child, the parents start to become very stressed and start taking some of the stress out on eachother. Would Ruby and Andrew experience that? I've experienced couples almost blaming their other parent for the assault of a child, especially if it's one of the parents friends so would what ever happen with them?

Ruby subconsciously blamed Andrew at first. She was friends with Jake but they were never as close as Jake and Andrew were so even though deep down, she knew that if Andrew saw any signs or knew he was going to groom Summer he wouldn't have been friends with him. Another part of her made her wonder how he didn't see any signs since they were around each other a lot. Ruby told Andrew this a month after she started feeling this way since the guilt was eating her alive. Andrew wasn't even mad at Ruby for blaming him since blamed himself so much and hated himself for it. They ended up going to couples therapy after that to fix their marriage.

i need to know the dynamics Ruby, Andrew, Lennon and Summer have road trips. They're the cutest family omg!!

Andrew literally loves road trips since he never got to go on vacations as a kid/teenager since his parents couldn't afford it. He loves driving on the road trips since it gives him something to do. He and Ruby do take turns driving but he has to be fidgeting with something if he's in the passenger seat. He likes looking at the scenery when he's in the passenger seat. If he's in the passenger seat, he cannot fall asleep unless he's absolutely EXHAUSTED. He loves going to the mountains the most.

Ruby's a multi tasker when she's in the passenger seat. She's doing her nails and full beat when Andrew's driving. She loves driving sometimes though. She doesn't always listen to the radio while she drives because it tends to distract her. She can fall asleep pretty easily in the passenger seat, especially if they've left the hotel early in the morning. Her favorite place to go to on road trips is the beach and the went to NYC on a road trip once and she literally had so much fun with Andrew and the kids.

Andrew and Ruby play games with the kids during road trips like I Spy and the licence plate games.

When Summer was younger, she needed to be occupied with the road trip activities books otherwise she would get so bored and start getting really upset. She loved playing the different road trip games as a kid and listening to the radio. As she got older she learned how to make bracelets while their driving, she likes doing her makeup and nails to distract herself. She reads a lot during road trips. She also likes to draw and sketch during trips. Her favorite places to go to on road trips are the beach.

As a kid, Lennon was easily occupied as a kid so he was always really good during road trips. He was very entertained by looking out the window, he loves reading during road trips, he got a camera for his birthday one year and loves taking pictures on trips. He loved going to the mountains and he was thrilled when they went to NYC.

from everything you've said about Ruby's parents, I think they would be very generous and nice people so when Ruby and Andrew lost their jobs and couldn't really afford anything anymore: her parents were pretty much paying off everything for them and probably didn't expect the money to be paid back. I think that Ruby and Andrew would be super grateful but also very humilated because they felt like they (Ruby and Andrew) were shitty people because they had someone else financially caring for their children, their house and their bills

I feel like I could really see this. Ruby's parents were very generous and very well off so they didn't mind helping her and Andrew. Ruby and Andrew were very humiliated about them both not working and having no income at all, they were trying to hide how badly they were doing and they put off asking her parents for money until it got to the point where the bank was going repossess the house and the cars which lead to them losing everything. The money they were getting from her parents helped alleviate some of their stress but they were both very anxious and depressed, they were both having very severe anxiety attacks because of the emotional stress.
