Collaboration idea
i had hoped to collaborate with Georgia Crotill this term but our plans have been pushed back to L6 and our ideas have developed further through discussions during lockdown.
her skills include photography, unlinke mine in which photograph is my main area for imrpovement. i had approached Georgia asking her to edit some imagery for me during lockdown as my laptop is broken and she has access to photoshop. this lead us to discussing our own projects and we noticed some simmilarities in our ideas. our projects cover both themes of identity, hers beginging to focus in on women and femminism and mine already looking at the female form but changing to focus on black women.
due to lock down, i was unable to proceed with ideas that involved the photography studio but i didnt mind due to lack of confidence with using the equiptment. me and georgia came up with the idea of combining my ideas with her photography skills to produce a series of photographs that i could paint from and she could edit/print/collage with.
the following lists some ideas we had:
1. replicating shirley cards using a caucassian and black model and 50s glammor to portray ideas of acceptance and beauty.
2. using a poloroid camera to document identity through portraiture, taking inspiration from artist andy warhol and his poloroid series that seems miles away from his usual pop art style.
3. speak with salford museum and art gallery to gain acess to their victorian street for a photoshoot that focuses on art history, capturing women in traditional clothing and undergarments such as petticoats, crinolines, bustle pads, chemise, bloomers, pantaloons and corsets. focusing on how clothing is sexualised and looking at prostitution as a key subject in art history.
4. photographing black women in their own homes. capturing their identity through their belongings as well as their bodies. taking inspiration from freeda khalo’s bath painting.
5. booking out a hotel room to capture art through video and photography looking at women as sexual objects and how man expected women to be house wives taking inspiration from Juno Calypso.
