For a long time, cities got a bad rap in the movies: Think of Fritz Lang's soul-devouring futuristic city in Metropolis (1027), the hedonistic town that sends out tendrils like the sinister Woman From the City to ensnare country folk like The Man and The Wife in F.W. Murnau's Sunrise (1927), or the weblike New York City that blights the lives of John and Mary in The Crowd (King Vidor, 1928). But these are surviving remnants of the Romanticism that proclaimed "God made the country and man made the town." By the mid-20th century, even our poets, or at least our songwriters, had turned the great big city into a wondrous toy, just made for a girl and boy, and a place where if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere -- a heroic challenge. In The Big City, Satyajit Ray's Kolkata retains some of the old sinister qualities, but it also represents opportunity, especially for women emerging from the shadows of male domination. Ray's domestic drama doesn't set up a contrast between town and country so much as a contrast between the dark, cramped home that Subrata (Anil Chatterjee) and Arati Mazumdar (Madhabi Mukherjee) share with his mother and father and sister and their young son, and the expanse of the city, which offers up tempting alternatives to the tight nuclear household. And those alternatives are something that the older members of that household view with disgust and horror: Arati's going out to work and to supplement the small income of the traditional breadwinner, Subrata. A world opens up for Arati, though it's also a world that can easily crumble around her. Madhabi Mukherjee's wonderful performance as Arati, tremulous and naive at first but gradually gaining fire and courage, animates the film. Obstacles present themselves: Subrata loses his job as a bank clerk, and Arati eventually loses hers by standing up for the Anglo-Indian Edith (Vicky Redwood). But at the end, husband and wife, who have found their marriage tested by her employment, summon up reserves of courage to face the job market. The ending has been criticized as sentimental, but Ray has so carefully shown the growth of both Arati and Subrata that I find it hopeful.

Aditya Roy Kapur celebrates one year of The Night Manager

Along with him, his co-stars Anil Kapoor and Sobhita Dhulipala also dedicated a special social media posts as the web-series turned one.

There is no doubt that The Night Manager was one of the most loved and watched series of 2023. Starring Aditya Roy Kapur as the lead, the show garnered massive success last year and won the hearts of audiences with its gripping plot. Aditya played the role of Shaan Sengupta, a spy who is on a mission to expose the wrongdoings of Shelly Rungta, played by Anil Kapoor. Now that the series has completed one year, Aditya decided to celebrate the moment by taking to social media to pen down a post.

Aditya Roy Kapoor shared some unreleased BTS images from the sets with his co-stars Anil Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, among others and penned a caption that read, “One year since the release of The Night Manager”. Many of the actor’s fans took to the post to not just wish him but also shower praises and love on his character Shaan. “One year since i found the love of my life- Shaan sen gupta,” wrote one of the fans whereas another one added, “Shaan is the ideal Jaan”.

For the unversed, the Hindi version of the show featured Sobhita Dhulipala as Shelly Rungta’s girlfriend Kaveri Dixit and Tillotama Shome as RAW officer Lipika Rao, who essayed key roles in the series. Apart from them, the web-show featured an ensemble cast which included Ravi Behl, Rukhsar Rehman, Saswata Chatterjee, Supriya Shukla, Joy Sengupta, among others. Directed by Sandeep Modi, The Night Manager is based on John Le Carre’s novel by the same name and it is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Meanwhile, talking about his upcoming work commitments, Aditya Roy Kapur is now gearing up for his next with Anurag Basu titled Metro In Dino, which features him alongside Sara Ali Khan,  and reportedly the actor has already started shooting for the film. The film also features a host of actors which include Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Anupam Kher, and Neena Gupta.

Fighter Day 2: Hrithik-Deepika Film Sees Huge Growth

Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone's Republic Day release Fighter registered a "massive growth" after underperforming on its opening day. According to trade Analyst Taran Adarsh, the film benefitted from two factors - word of mouth appreciation and Republic day holiday. The mass pockets also contributed to raise the number higher on Friday. Taran Adrash predicts the film has a solid chance to set big numbers if Saturday-Sunday "maintain the speed."

Fighter minted ₹ 41.20 crore on its second day of release and the total stands at ₹ 65.80 crore. Taran Adarsh wrote, "Fighter sets BO on fire, is EXTRAORDINARY on Day 2, benefits largely due to two factors: [i] Excellent feedback from audience and [ii] RepublicDay holiday… Mass pockets - which underperformed on Day 1 - witness massive growth on Day 2, thus contributing to the impressive total."

He added, "The tremendous growth on Day 2 gives the film a solid chance to march forward… If Sat and Sun maintain the speed, a massive total is certainly on the cards… Frankly, it's too early to guesstimate a figure for the 4-day extended weekend, since mass belt and spot bookings can elevate the situation on Sat and Sun multifold… So let's wait and watch."

In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave Fighter 2.5 stars and wrote, "Scripted by Ramon Chibb with Siddharth Anand, Fighter works best when it decides to slow down a tad in the second half. Its emotional high point occurs when Samsher meets Minal's father (Ashutosh Rana) and mother (Geeta Agrawal) by accident and proceeds to impress upon them the enormity of their daughter's achievements. Among the pilots in the Air Dragons team formed after the early 2019 terrorist attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama is Basheer Khan (Akshay Oberoi). He gets to spout what are by far the most patriotic lines in the film - a repeat of a poignant and patriotically pointed couplet that Shamsher recites early in the film."

Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand, stars Hrithik and Deepika, Anil Kapoor. They are part of an elite team that is called upon to respond to a threat from across the border. The cast includes Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi, Rishabh Sawhney and Sanjeeda Sheikh.

THE CREDFORCE DEFAULT SAGA –COUNTING THE HUMAN COST…

The Credforce Asia Ltd’s default saga has now continued for thirty-three months. These investors have lost their lives waiting for their monies to come back, Mr Jatinder Rai Chibber, had an investment of Rs 45 lakhs, passed away in 2021, Mr Prithpal Singh Vasudev, had an investment of Rs 10 Lakhs, passed away in 2021, Mrs Minoti Chatterjee, school principal in Delhi, passed away in 2022, Mr Gopal Narain Saxena, former director of IFFCO, passed away in 2021, Mrs Alka Saxena passed away in April 2021.

Apart from the above names there are some investors suffering from ailments and are cash strapped to pay for their treatment, To name a few Mr Ram Chander Grover, he is suffering from acute diabetes and has had three stents put in his heart, Mr Suresh Kumar Chaddha, is suffering from prostate cancer and undergoing treatment for the last six months, Mr Anil Gupta, he is undergoing dialysis and is suffering from various heart issues, Mr Mark Manuel, son of Mrs Christine Manuel, is undergoing a Bone Marrow Transplant in Vellore, Mr Apurba Majumder, is suffering from various heart related ailments and this issue has caused him severe anxiety leading to health issues.

These are just a few of the examples of the human suffering that Rajiv Gupta, Geetika Gupta and Sanjeeva Shukla have caused on the preference shareholders of Credforce Asia Ltd.

The Husband Wife 90% share holding Promoter Duo of Credforce Asia Ltd namely Rajiv Gupta a Wharton Alumni and Geetika Gupta a Sr Employee of Accenture have siphoned crores to USA and left investors in a lurch most of them helpless senior citizens like me a 75yr old widowed, retired school principal. We need justice from the government that they should make arrangements to deport the Gupta’s and make them face the legal consequences in India and not to make a mockery of the judiciary and police system by taking advantage of being in USA. We also hope Accenture reviews their Corporate Governance policy for having such a fraudster in their ranks. Kishwar Majid.

Sanjeeva Shukla is under arrest in Tihar Jail and will be soon moved to Kolkata and remanded in the custody of Kolkata Police. He will be arriving on 13th October from Delhi.

Rajiv Gupta and his wife Geetika Gupta have bought a palatial house with the proceeds of the crime and are living a comfortable and luxurious life in Austin, Texas, USA.

Credforce showed us a very rosy picture with their concocted financials and then defrauded me of my life’s savings. They have made my survival, hand to mouth, said Mrs Veena Rohatgi, age 76.

Rajiv Gupta is running Edvantic Inc. providing Edu-Tech services to businesses and students in America. Edvantic had revenues of over $ 30 million in 2021. He is an alumnus of the Wharton College, at the University of Pennsylvania. But his own alma mater has won damages of $ 1.20 Million for defrauding them. His wife Geetika Gupta works for Accenture in Austin, Texas and is a very senior employee with global responsibilities. She has a multi-million-dollar salary. The couple originally hail from Lucknow in India.
