i do rly love dungeon meshi so far and i do see that the mangaka is trying to rehabilitate the dnd tropes and make them more thoughtful and less racist and this is not so much a judgement, more an observation, but the dnd tropes originally are so racist that i kinda wish that the mangaka was completely inventing her own worldbuilding instead of building off of them. like maybe at some point we should as a society move away from and throw away dnd tropes in the trashcan where they belong, just a thought you know.

i. The cabin was one of Jennifer’s favorite places.

It was modest, yes, but had all the amenities they needed. It was surrounded by lush trees, allowing them to feel wholly secluded from everything and everyone. 

The cabin was where they went when they needed to reset and renew themselves, giving themselves over to the pleasure of being the only two people on earth. 

She hadn’t realized how much she needed this getaway until Jonathan announced it and she’d been overcome with the sudden longing for pine fresh air and cold nights.

ii. Jonathan wasn’t sure what possessed him to pack up and whisk away to the cabin, but with Jennifer folded in his embrace he knew it was exactly the right choice.

Tension eased from his shoulders as the lake breeze tousled his hair. The air was crisper here, clear of the heavy city smog, a verdant bite to it. He took a deep breath and held Jennifer tighter.

They were alone in a world of their own making, for a few days at least, far from civilization and strife.

I did not expect Beef Lord- I mean Beaft Lord- I mean Beast Lord Akoru to set off the interest vibes for Eight, but it's sort of hard to deny the allure of another warrior who is scantily dressed and much larger than you who laughs heartily in awe of your martial prowess....also, he doesn't know that challenging an Echani to a fight is a) a way to bond and b) when done with a lack of clothes, is initiating courtship. True, his pet was the middleman, but he still had a similar honor ritual and watched him fight, so it was a little voyeuristic for him. Like being admired naked, lol.

Also neat little nod, though it felt a little out of place like most references to Jadus during Onslaught. Not sure the intent here.
