Christmas tunes played over the speakers on the crowded snowy streets but the sounds of people bustling and cars honking nearly drowned it out.

You held Luke’s hand as you crossed the street, he was happily skipping and humming to himself.

He’d been overjoyed to be able to visit the human world with you and his excitement grew when he learned you’d be exploring the city during the Christmas season. Simeon thought this was a good idea. That way Luke could adjust to how humans celebrated Christmas—extremely commercialized.

Luke paused to point out every nativity scene he saw in the store windows or the lawn of the church in the middle of the city.

He skipped right along with your pace, not really caring to look around too much until he passed by a certain window and his eyes lit up. You felt resistance in your hand and stopped to see Luke glued to the store display.

It reminded you of the scene from Christmas Story. Propped against the back were Nerf guns, teddy bears, and toy soldiers. A train rode through everything with fake steam coming from the top of it.

Luke was far from the only child looking at it but he was certainly the most behaved as the other children flailed to stay longer or whined that they had to have that toy.

Luke gave you a hopeful look and you chuckled, “Wanna check out the store?” You suggested

Luke nodded eagerly, “Can we!?”

You nodded too and he jumped for joy as you waited for people to finish exiting the store so you could both slip in.

Luke let out an audible gasp as he took in his surroundings. You put your ear mits back on to block out the more annoying sounds in the store like screaming kids who didn’t get what they wanted.

Luke looked distressed at the children’s upset and gave them a bright smile which seemed to instantly calm them down. The parent with the upset toddler was so surprised at the sudden change from aggrieved to giggling that she turned right around to see Luke smiling and profusely thanked him.

Luke was embarrassed and hid behind you.

“You’re a good parent,” she told you with a grin. “He’s so well-mannered.”

You and Luke turned red and you mumbled words of thanks as Luke dragged you by the hand to the toy aisle.

You couldn’t wait to tell Simeon that Luke had been mistaken as your child. You couldn’t tell if the blush that stayed on Luke’s cheeks was from embarrassment or happiness. After all, Luke was actually your self-appointed guardian angel. Though he may be young he was often much wiser than you. You had Simeon’s guidance to thank for that.

You watched Luke examine the Brio Trains, Nerf Guns, teddy bears larger than the both of you, pottery sets, and mystery hatchimals.

“What are these?” He asked you holding a hatchimal proudly above his head.

“A stuffed animal,” you explained and he frowned.

“It doesn’t hatch into a real animal?” He asked and you nodded.

“This isn’t the Devildom, magic animals don’t live in the human world.”

“Unicorns do!”

“Wait what?”

Luke did not answer you as he was distracted by the remote-controlled Mario cars that looked similar to the ones in the game he always played with Levi.

“Want it?” You asked him after he held it for a while, the excited glimmer in his eyes not fading.

He gasped and looked at you. “You mean it!? Can I? It’s so expensive though!” He admitted and you realized it was nearly 100 USD and swallowed your words of regret.

You smiled instead and nodded and he cheered, “Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You’re the best ___! An angel!” He exclaimed and you blushed as some parents looked at you, curious.

“Yeah, yeah,” you said quickly hoping he’d calm down.

You reached for a second car and grinned, “you’ll need someone to race against, won’t you?”

Luke cheered even more loudly. “I can’t wait! This is the best day ever! You’re the best ___!”

You shushed him embarrassed as he gave you a big hug. You carried the two cars to the checkout line. The poor cashier was overwhelmed as the lines reminded you of Disney and there were just two of them able to check people out.

When it was finally your turn Luke tried to pay with some of his allowance but you snatched it right back and handed over your card.

Luke pouted at not being allowed to help you when you were already being so generous but he quickly got over it when you handed him his car.

Luke grinned brightly the rest of the day and his allowance instead quickly disappeared into a donation bin guarded by a very grateful Santa.

When you finally returned home to Purgatory Hall Luke immediately showed Solomon, Taphale, and Simeon what you had both gotten and Simeon smiled and thanked you.

“Who are you going to race first?” Raphael asked looking at the cars.

“___! They got them for me after all! I want them to do the honors.”

Solomon chuckled at his cute response. “These are good quality. Let me know if they die quickly or not, I can just enchant them to keep running.”

Raphael gave him a side eye, worried about what such an enchantment would really do as these things easily gained sentience and went off the rails.

Simeon handed everyone food and said the blessing. As you sat there eating an idea popped into your head and you smiled widely enough that the others noticed.

“So, Simeon. Can I take your other kid out shopping too?”

Simeon raised an eyebrow, “pardon? My other kid?”

Solomon snorted so hard a noodle shot out his nose as he immediately realized who you meant.

“Yeah, Raphael.”

Raphael glared at you as Simeon nodded. “Yes. I’ll spare some change for you, I’m sure he’d love a Nerf gun or race car.”

“Ugh, spare me,” Raphael grumbled as Luke laughed.

It was a good end to a great day.

It was a snowy morning today. Seeing the snow outside, Mario and Luigi decided to talk a walk to get to see the snowfall firsthand. They also were excited about finally being able to build snowmen. They had a 'tradition' that they did ever since they were kids that they would build snowmen of each other whenever they got the chance to play around in the snow.

After finishing making the pair of snowmen next to each other, the two continued their walk, starting to make their way back to the house.

As they were walking though, Mario looked at the snow next to the sidewalk, and he kneeled down, pressing his hand down into it with a big, goofy smile on his face.

He was planning something.

"What are you doing, bro?" Luigi asked, confused.

"I'm putting my mark on the world," Mario grinned.

Luigi rolled his eyes at Mario's joke, but he couldn't help but smile, chuckling a little. His brother always managed to make that happen.

"You know, Mario," Luigi began, "I think you're pretty remarkable."

Mario took a few moments to process what Luigi just said, but once he did, Mario's eyes immediately lit up in awe. He quickly got up, giving his brother a big hug.

"You said a pun!!" Mario exclaimed in joy.

Luigi laughed awkwardly at the sudden embrace, but he'd hug Mario back, happy to have put a smile on his face too.

This is a stand in ask that I lost. It was about Sonic Frontiers. It was a four-part ask written kind of smugly about the open zone areas of Sonic Frontiers, and how all the random clutter (springs, dash panels, etc.) and high level of scripting/railroading doesn't fit in very well with open world design. They suggested Sega would have to go back to the drawing board and really change the design for whatever follows next.

So I wanted to redo this ask because I feel like I had a pretty good response.

I opened this ask jokingly calling the anon out for sounding a little snooty, because it used some big words. But my main opener was: Haven't you played Super Mario Odyssey? Each level in Super Mario Odyssey is effectively its own little open world, particularly something like Tostarena.

it's this huge area dotted with a town, ruins, and other landmarks, with big stretches of empty space between them. The landmarks are where the traditional gameplay is -- platforming challenges, enemies, puzzles, and so on, and you have to traverse across the desert to reach them.

I also think about Jak & Daxter, maybe one of the first open world platformers ever, and how it has kind of a hub-and-spoke system. Generally you are working out of a base, like a workshop or a village or something, with roads that lead out of, around, and back into that base area (or to other buildings that act sort of like self-contained dungeons).

Each "road" takes the place of a level. Now, there's nothing keeping you on the road, which is part of the fun, since you can cross between roads, go around obstacles, and so on. But roads are definitely setup to guide you through a space like a level would.

And as someone who plays a lot of it, I think in the context of Fortnite, which is this huge island covered in a spiderweb of roads and pathways leading to, from, and around POIs (Points of Interest).

It's a system that drives all good open world design, and was kind pioneered in Disneyland all the way back in the 1950's. Disney didn't call them "points of interest", he called them "weenies" -- big iconic areas that you can see from long distances that are interesting enough to make you want to explore them, while also helping you stay oriented in the overall space.

So take this screenshot of the current Fortnite map:

My car is parked at a crossroads. Directly ahead of me and a little to the left is a shack where Gwenpool is roaming around. Further in the distance is the POI of "Reckless Railways", which houses the map's Grand Central Station, where the train rolls through and restocks its supplies. Further beyond that are the snowy mountains and the massive Grand Glacier hotel. To the far left, on the edge of the image, is the forge at Dr. Doom's castle.

Roads are meant for traveling quickly down. They lead you to points of interest, where you slow down and comb through an area carefully. And, obviously, there's all kinds of little landmarks dotted all over the place between major POIs, encouraging you to get off the road and go exploring. Gas stations and ruins and little shacks and stuff.

It's extremely easy to adapt these concepts to a Sonic game, which is what's so baffling about Sonic Frontiers being such an incoherent mess.

Roads should be your boost Sonic zones. It can't be a random collection of junk, it can't be something you unlock as a means of "fast travel." There has to be an identifiable road, a series of pathways leading you around the island. You put grind rails and boost pads and dash rings along this road. This is where players are supposed to go fast. Roads = travel.

These roads will lead you to points of interest and other landmarks. A POI, like in Super Mario Odyssey, is where puzzles, platforming, and exploration are mostly done. I do not mean "four stone buildings" like in Sonic Frontiers. I mean a place that feels like a place. A location that feels like it has character. Personality. Something you work your way through, absorb, and conquer. Again, like Odyssey.

And then you stash little secrets and landmarks off the beaten path for players who want to go offroading.

2-3 islands per game, 2-3 biomes per island. You can have specific race or time trial missions to and from different landmarks, you can have POI exploration missions, you can have missions to change the state of these POIs like blowing up power plants or unlocking gates. Maybe Eggman has a giant pipe he's using to pump toxic chemicals into the water, so you have to turn off the pump and then you get to run down the inside of the empty pipe like an F-Zero GX track.

It's easy to design this game. You don't even need cyberspace levels. Heck, remember GTA5? Most missions had bronze, silver, and gold medals. You can still have a ranking system in an open world game.

Cozy Snuggles & Cheerful Cackles

Mario, Peach, Luigi and Daisy are walking around the pink, precious snowy area known as Fluff-Puff Peaks. While the others are having a snowball fight, Mario offers Prince Florian a warm spot in his shirt. But Mario quickly begins to regret this when Prince Florian's mischievous side starts to come out...

But despite that, I hope you enjoy!

Mario, Peach, Daisy and Luigi were walking around the Fluff-Puff Peaks. It was a wintery landscape with fluffy, pink clouds in the sky. It was absolutely gorgeous to look at. The fluffy clouds reminded him of pink, fluffy sweaters that were meant to keep you warm while you were playing in the snow. Though Mario was used to this amount of snow, seeing the snow mixed with all the pretty pink clouds made him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. 

…Or maybe that was because Prince Florian happened to be snuggled up against his neck…

“You comfy, Florian?” Mario asked. 

“Mm hmm…” He mumbled softly. 

Mario chuckled at his soft response, and kept walking. Despite the red man being quite underdressed for the cold, Mario was surprisingly comfortable. It was cool for sure, but it didn’t make him chilled. It felt rather nice, actually. 

“Awww…” Peach giggled into her glove and pointed to Florian against his neck. 

“I gotta say, I am having so much trouble finding out who’s Prince Florian’s favorite.” Daisy teased, nudging Peach. 

Mario rolled his eyes at her and looked down at Prince Florian. “You’re just jealous.” Mario teased, looking up at Daisy with a smirk. 

Daisy gasped and huffed. “Jealous?! Why, you little-” Daisy gasped and froze suddenly as she felt something cold hit her on the back. She suddenly looked at the person behind her out of the corner of her eye, and scowled. “Do it again…” She warned, before turning to face her new foe. “I dare you.” 

The green twin smirked and threw another snowball at her, landing it on her chest. Daisy looked down at the snow that now coated her chest, before looking up at Luigi with an evil, mischievous smirk. She picked up some snow and turned it into a ball. “So that’s how it’s gonna be?” She asked, before throwing the snowball at him. 

Luigi covered his face with his arms, stopping the snowball from exploding on his face. He picked up some more snow, and made a snowball. “I challenge you to a duel!” He declared, pointing to her with the snowball in his hand. 

His confidence was quickly rescinded thanks to a single snowball to the chest. “Challenge accepted!” She yelled back, before throwing two snowballs at the exact same time towards him. Luigi squeaked as both the snowballs hit his back. A snowball fight had quickly commenced. 

Mario shook his head with a chuckle at his brother’s mischief. 

Peach giggled with her hand over her mouth. “They’re always getting into trouble.” She reacted. “I’m surprised you’re not joining them.” She admitted. 

Mario pointed to Prince Florian. “No way I’m throwing snowballs if he’s sleeping on me.” Mario told him. 

Peach smiled. “I can take him, if you want.” Peach offered. 

“The prince? Or Luigi?” Mario asked for clarification. 

Peach giggled. “The prince. Then you can take care of Luigi.” She replied. 

Mario waved his hand. “Nah…I’m alright to watch. But you should join in.” Mario encouraged her. 

Peach smirked. “You know what? You’re right.” She replied. She picked up some snow, turned it into a ball and threw it at Daisy. 

Daisy turned around the moment she felt the ball hit her arm. “Finally decided to join in, toadstool?” She asked with a smirk, throwing her snowball up and down like a baseball. 

“You bet, carrot top.” She replied, molding her snow into another ball. 

“CARROT TOP?!” Daisy reacted. 

Luigi snickered a little bit. “Careful calling her that…I made that mistake once, and only once.” Luigi warned. 

While the playful snow fight continued, Mario carefully sat himself down in the snow and watched Prince Florian for a bit. Though he knew the prince would wake up when he heard the commotion, he still found him rather endearing when he was asleep. He was the sweetest, most gentle little wiggler he’d ever met…and he’d come across thousands of wigglers in his lifetime!

Soon, Prince Florian started to wake up. He fluttered his eyes open, and looked up at Mario. “Hi Mario.” He greeted. 

Mario smiled. “Hi Florian. Sleep well?” He asked. 

“Mhm…” He admitted. “It’s getting cold though…” He admitted. 

Mario hummed and unbuttoned his shirt slightly. “Wanna hop in?” He asked, opening his collar slightly. 

Prince Florian widened his eyes and smiled brightly. “R-Really?! Are you sure?” He asked, slightly hesitant. Mario nodded his head. “I’m sure! It’ll be extra warm and cozy there.” Mario told him. 

Prince Florian clapped its hands together. “Okay! Thank you!” He crawled into the collar and down his chest to his heat-radiating belly. 

Mario tensed up and jumped slightly. He anticipated his crawling to be somewhat ticklish, but knew he would stop and curl in a few seconds later. 

From inside, Prince Florian felt like he was being coated with the perfect amount of warmth. “Wow! I see what you mean!” Florian reacted before shoving his face deep into Mario’s belly like a curious dog. 

Mario jumped and let out a full bout of laughter. “eeEK! BAhahahaha! C-Cahahareful, it tickles.” He told him. 

Prince Florian lifted his head up with wide eyes, the red shirt covering his head like a hat. “You’re ticklish?!” Prince Florian asked with excitement dripping from his voice. 

Mario bit his lip. “Yeah, a little. So please be careful.” Mario told him, slightly nervous, but trusting enough to leave him be. Florian was a sweet prince, who most likely wouldn’t tickle him unless given permission…or so, Mario would like to believe. Surely he’ll be careful now, right?

Prince Florian snuggled his face into his belly and made himself still. He couldn’t fully understand how someone could radiate so much warmth…he was like a living campfire! And boy, was it a delight!

But what was more of a delight, was that his human campfire…was very ticklish. And though Mario told him to be careful, he never did say how long he had to be careful for. So by that logic…Prince Florian could be careful for only 10 seconds, before unleashing the ultimate tickle attack on him…and he would still be considered perfectly innocent. 

That sneaky little wiggler…Mario had no clue what was coming…

…That was, until he heard a gasp followed by a surprisingly large raspberry against his belly! 

“eeEEHAAAHAHAHAhahahaha!” Mario’s back flopped to the ground as he held his head with his right hand, letting out surprising bouts of laughter. “HEhehehey! Whahahat ahahare yohou-” Mario gasped as another raspberry filled his ticklish belly. “NAHAHAHahahahahaaa! Ihihi sahahaid behe carefuhuhul!” Mario told him. 

“But I WAS careful!” Florian reacted. “But you never said I had to continue being careful~” Florian reminded him.

Mario’s laughter turned into giggles soon after. “Keheep doing that, and you’ll lose your warm spot.” Mario told him. 

Prince Florian smirked and poked his belly. “You should’ve thought of how ticklish you were, before showing me the warm spot.” He reminded him. 

Mario jumped and chuckled with his right eye closed. “Ihihi thohought yohou'd be cahaharefuhul.” Mario admitted. 

“Well, that was your first mistake.” Prince Florian said with a smirk before blowing another raspberry onto his belly. 

“WaitWAIT-WAAHAHAHAHAHahaha!” Mario cackled, rolling onto his left side and kicking his feet a little bit. “F-FlohorianholdoHOHOOON! eeEEEHEHEEEHEEHEEK!” Mario squealed and giggled, shaking his head and covering his mouth with his right hand while pounding his fist into the snow with his left. 

“Aww, what’s going on over here?” Peach asked, sitting down on the right side of Mario. Apparently their snowball fight had stopped the moment Mario’s laughter filled the air. 

Luigi noticed the bump in his shirt. “Looks like the prince made himself comfy on his belly.” Luigi teased, poking Prince Florian’s back from the outside in. 

Prince Florian jumped and laughed. “I know you’re there, Luigi!” Prince Florian reacted before resuming his tickle attack on Mario.

“Mario’s ticklish?!” Daisy reacted, kneeling down and watching Mario wiggle around in the snow. “How have I never known this?!” Daisy asked next, shocked. 

Peach smirked. “I guess so.” She replied. 

Luigi laughed. “Hey Florian: A little word of advice from his evil twin brother:” Luigi mentioned, looking at Mario. 

His smirk brightened the moment he saw the slight glare that filled Mario’s eyes. “DOHON’T YOU DAHAHARE!” Mario shouted. 

“The left side of his belly is much worse than the right.” Luigi said. 

“LUYOU-GAHAHAhahahaha!” Mario shouted, before falling back into more laughter. 

Peach giggled and poked his right side. “Is that so?” Peach asked. 

Mario jumped. “Peachdohohon’t!” Mario giggled. 

Luigi raised his eyebrow at Peach. “Do you realize you’re poking the wrong side?” Luigi asked. 

Peach smirked. “Yeah. Maybe I wanted to~” She teased. 

Luigi chuckled and looked at Mario’s belly. Just seeing his brother’s belly had immediately helped him remember something. “Oh, I forgot! His belly button’s pretty bad too.” Luigi mentioned. “Dad would always tickle right where his belly button was, anytime he was reaching up to grab something or hold something up.” Luigi added. 

“LU SHUHUHUT UHUP!” Mario shouted. 

“Thanks, Luigi!” Prince Florian took in another deep breath and blew another raspberry specifically on top of his belly button. 

“DOHON’T- HAHAHAHAhahahaha!” Mario cackled, trying not to hug his own belly for fear of squishing the Flower Prince. 

“Taking my advice already?” Luigi asked Prince Florian. 

Prince Florian giggled. “You bet!” He replied proudly. “How did you know!?” He asked next. 

Luigi chuckled. “Eh…Just a hunch.” Luigi mentioned. 

Daisy laughed a bit when she saw how flustered Mario was getting. “His cheeks are almost the same shade as his shirt!” She reacted. 

Luigi chuckled. “Yeah…he gets like that. He was teased about his rosy cheeks all throughout middle school.” Luigi said as he poked Mario’s cheek playfully. “And I believe throughout high school too.” He added.

“Yohohohou’re thehe wohohohorrst!” Mario complained. 

Peach smirked and picked up Mario’s wrists. “How bad are his armpits?” Peach asked, looking over at Luigi. “PeachNO-!” Mario yelled, pulling on his hands.

Luigi snickered. “Not as ticklish, but still pretty good.” He replied eagerly. 

Peach shrugged her shoulders and gently dug her left fingers into his left armpit. “Good enough for me.” 

Mario squeaked and snorted, before giggling a little louder. “Wahahait-HAHAhaha! Nohohohoho!” Mario giggled. 

Luigi hummed and snapped his fingers when he heard the snort. “Right! I forgot to mention too: He also snorts when tickled long enough.” He explained. “Mario turns into a giggly little mess when his armpits are touched or tickled.”

Mario giggled and kicked his feet, tugging on his arms. “Shuhuhuhut uhuhuhuhup! Yohohohou guhuhuhuys suhuhuck!” Mario whined. 

Luigi just chuckled at his brother’s failure to stop him, before poking his vulnerable upper ribs. “Come on, Mario. Is it really that bad?” He asked with a mix of curiosity. 

Mario nodded his head mid-laughing fit. “Yehehehes! Whahahahat dohoho yohou thihihihink!?” He reacted. 

“I don’t know…it doesn’t look ticklish enough.” Luigi teased, before poking his upper ribs again. “Want some help, royal tickle monsters?” Luigi asked. 

Peach looked at Luigi, slightly worried. “I don’t know. I think he’s laughing enough.” Peach admitted. 

“I guess…” Luigi muttered. 

“He could be laughing harder though.” Daisy added. 

Daisy’s words reminded Luigi of something extra. He hummed and looked at Peach and Daisy. “Have you ever heard Mario cackle before?” Luigi asked. 

Daisy gasped. “No, I haven’t! Does he cackle like a witch?!” She asked excitedly. 

“Not quite…” Luigi responded. 

“Aww…” Daisy muttered, disappointed. 

“But he does have an amazing cackle.” Luigi added. “Getting him to snort is pretty good. But getting him to cackle?” Luigi smirked. 

Mario groaned. “LUIHIHIGI SHUT IHIHIHIT!” Mario shouted. 

Luigi snickered at Mario’s outburst. “You get him to cackle, and you will have hit the biggest Mario-themed jackpot known to mankind.” Luigi explained. 

Peach giggled. “That is pretty tempting…” She teased.

“Let’s do it!” Daisy reacted, throwing her fists in the air. “How can I help?” she asked. 

Luigi smiled and got up. “You can tickle him. I’m just gonna watch and give my two-cents.” Luigi told him. 

“Really?” Prince Florian asked, popping his head out from the right, lower side of Mario’s shirt. 

Daisy raised an eyebrow as she went for the other armpit. “You’re giving us all this advice, but you’re not even gonna tickle him yourself?!” She asked, surprised. 

“Nah.” Luigi replied. “Just telling you all that has already earned me a good 30 minutes of tickles. So if I were to tell you all that AND THEN tickle him-” 

“YOHOHOHOU’LL BEHEHEHE DEHEHEAD! YOHOHOU’RE DEHEHEAD!” Mario shouted at him. 

Luigi pointed to Mario. “See? He’s gonna only worsen his punishment on me if I tickle him as well.” Luigi responded to the princesses. 

“But if you’re gonna get tickled anyway…” “FLOHOHOHORIAN-” 

“Don’t interrupt, Mario.” Prince Florian poked his right side, leaving Mario laughing all over again. Then, he looked back at Luigi and continued. “But if you’re gonna get tickled anyway, then why not risk it and help out?” Prince Florian asked. 

“He has a point, Honey.” Daisy replied. 

“There’s no point! You’re so close to getting him to cackle.” Luigi told him. 

“We are?!” Peach asked. 

“PLEHEHEHEHEASE-!” Mario shouted. “IHIHIHI’M GOHOHONNA DIHIHIEEEHEEE!” Mario shouted. 

Florian gasped and snuggled himself back into his red shirt before blowing one more big raspberry onto the left, most ticklish side of his belly. Mario gasped and squealed loudly…“AAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA-” He laughed loudly, before finally letting out a long bout of cackly laughter. 

“There we go!” Luigi reacted, before clapping his hands and laughing himself. “Yohohohou dihihid ihit!” He added.

Daisy paused her tickling and stared at Mario with shock in her eyes. “Oh wow…He sounds so happy!” She reacted.

Peach had gasped and stopped her own fingers. Slowly, a little warm expression filled her face as she held her chest, almost as if experiencing cuteness overload from his cackles alone. 

Florian had climbed out of Mario’s shirt and was currently clapping his front paws with a big smile on his face. “What a laugh!” He reacted, laughing himself. 

Luigi was smiling brightly, bursting into louder laughter. “Ohoho mygod…” He hung his head and held his knees as he let out another bout of laughter. “His laugh is the best…” He muttered to himself mid-giggle, rubbing a tear from his eye before bursting into another fit of laughter. 

“I’ll say! I love it!” Prince Florian reacted.

Daisy was looking at Luigi, poking his cheek. “Oho my gosh! I didn’t know the jackpot included some squeegee giggles!” Daisy reacted. 

Luigi squeaked as his cheeks grew red in mere seconds. “Dahahaisy shush!” Luigi reacted, pushing against her cheek.

Daisy just laughed at his reaction. “Cutie~” She teased, poking the side of his temple gently.

Luigi calmed his laughter down, before looking down with a flustered little pouty face. This only made Daisy laugh even more. 

Meanwhile, Prince Florian sat down beside Mario. “You okay?” He asked, placing a hand on Mario’s belly. Mario jumped and hugged his side, pushing Florian’s paw away. “Dohohon’t tohouch. Ihit still tickles.” Mario reacted. 

Florian smirked and poked his side a couple times. “Oh really?” He asked. 

Mario pushed his paw away and pointed his index finger at him. “Don’t you start.” Mario warned with a smirk. 

“Or what?” Florian asked. Mario grabbed Florian, laid him on his back and tickled his belly. “Or I’ll get you back.” Mario declared. 

“eeEEHEHEEEK HAhahahaha!! Mahariohoho!” Prince Florian reacted.

Meanwhile, Peach was giggling and still looking at Mario with the most love-struck look you had ever seen. Mario’s laughter, mixed with Mario’s mischief and playfulness towards Florian…was making her experience those special feelings she rarely ever felt. 

Daisy had quickly noticed this, and gently punched her shoulder. “Look at this lovey-dovey goon. Does Peachy-poo have a crush on Mario?” Daisy asked. 

Peach gasped and held her shoulder. “What?! No!” She attempted to argue, but to no avail.

“Oh really~?” Daisy poked her cheek. “Cause that face is something me the whoooole truth.” She teased. 

Peach grunted and started poking and squeezing Daisy’s sides and belly to get back at her. “Says the one with the biggest crush on Luigi.” Peach teased. 

“eeEEK! NOHohoho shuhut ihihihihihit!” Daisy reacted. 

‘Not until you do, flower-face!” Peach teased, poking her a few more times…only to get snow shoved into her face by Daisy. Only THEN did Peach stop her tomfoolery. 

Though, let’s face it: the entire clan of heroes are a bunch of playful hooligans who will always take a moment to play around and tease each other. After all: what’s an adventure without a little harmless fun?!

Is it just me or the second you give Peach the Lazy Shell Armor after beating Valentina, you’ve basically won every single future battle by making her an unkillable goddess that WILL make sure the party (by which I mostly mean Mario and Geno) win every single battle through attrition if they can’t just bull over the opponents?

Kinda makes Bowser and especially Mallow almost useless late game since Bowser’s biggest strength is his bulk which is pointless when Peach on the Lazy Shell is both bulkier and makes her teammates constantly healthy, and Mallow’s greatest strength outside of healing is his magic attacks which Geno and Mario can outclass him in once they set up with Geno Boost thanks to Peach covering for them for a few turns. The only main reasons to use them are in scenarios where:

1. Magic does next to nothing against enemies so Bowser’s physical attacks are your best choice

2. The enemy has a specific element weakness that you’re trying to exploit with Mallow

3. You want to check what Magic immunities they have with Mallow so you don’t waste a bunch of FP on an attack that will do nothing

4. The Trio Attacks

Also worth noting in case anyone is curious is that Mallow can’t replace Peach as a Lazy Shell Armor abuser both because her healing skills are better and since the Lazy Shell nerfs his Magic Attack Stat, the healing he COULD do before is drastically reduced. He’s by far the worst recipient of the item.

I guess this USED to be the case in the original but in terms of the remake...

elemental weaknesses are much more obvious and can make or break a fight now. for example, Mallow's Snowy completely destroys the Shoguns that you HAVE to fight in Land's End and that made that section way less excruciating than it normally is like holy shit

the triple moves make them all matter by default. like, the whole point, besides adding a new mechanic, was to make them feel more like a united team, rather than just three dudes and two bystanders

Also you sound like someone who hasn't played postgame yet, many of those mechs bypass the Lazy Shell completely and by god in heaven you're going to APPRECIATE that Mallow and Bowser are there when the rest of the team gets wiped LOL

Popcorn Fight!

Trigger warning: Nothing but fluff!

Summary: Jake and you spend an entire Saturday watching movies.

It's a snowy Saturday. The grocery shopping was done yesterday, and today, the roads are icy and bad. There was a snowstorm last night, and driving anywhere was a nightmare. Luckily, you and Jake prepared for the worst.

You bought a frozen pizza to make for later. You and Jake were eating bacon, eggs, and biscuits for breakfast. You and Jake had just finished your coffees, and now you and Jake had settled on the couch, with a bunch of movies on Netflix. It certainly was a Netflix and chill day today.

You had some dollar store candy laid out. You had a few bags of popcorn ready to go. You had plenty of water, some Coke for Jake, and some lemonade for you.

Jake had just finished walking Mario, and he was bundled up. Mario was in the house, and trying to get warm. So was Jake. He was cold to the bone. It was even colder out with the wind chill.

"Honey bun, I'm freezing," says Jake. He looked it, too.

"Okay, let's get you out of this coat, and get some hot coffee in you, goofball," you say, using your pet name for Jake.

You pour Jake his coffee just the way he likes it.

"Okay, you pick the first movie," you say.

"Okay, let's watch Holmes and Watson", says Jake.

You and Jake snuggle on the couch under the blanket, and just enjoy the movie.

When that's over, Jake needs a pee break. So, you both go ahead and take a pee break. When you come back, Jake finds you fixing grilled cheese sandwiches and fries for lunch.

"Mmm, grilled cheese is perfect for lunch, honeybun," says Jake.

"Thank, Jake," you say.

Jake gets out the ketchup and the plates, and he puts the fries in the air fryer. Lunch is already starting to taste good, and your stomach is growling.

The fries are halfway done, and you start the grilled cheese sandwiches. Jake has his arms around your waist as you're making the sandwiches, and is kissing your shoulder.

The fries are done when the air fryer beeps, and the grilled cheese is done. You get the waters for the both of you, and Jake squirts some ketchup on the plates. You both go into the living room, and eat your lunch, and watch The Incredibles on Disney +.

"Mmm, this is the best," you say, stealing a kiss from Jake.

"It is," says Jake,

You let Mario out so that he can do his business, and then swiftly let him back in.

You make some popcorn, and pull out a huge bowl. The popcorn is done, so you both settle back on the couch under the blanket. You decide on Knives Out, and it's sequel Glass Onion, and you and Jake are snuggling on the couch, in your PJ's, watching the movies and eating popcorn, without a care in the world. It's so blissful.

You and Jake are deep into the movie, when you playfully throw a kernel of popcorn at him. Jake playfully throws one back at you, and you two keep doing this. You two get into a popcorn fight! It's so cute and playful, and Mario is napping in his dog bed, in corner of the living room. It's such a cozy scene.

You and Jake kiss lovingly, and then eat the popcorn while watching the movie.

Eventually, you and Jake are hungry again, and you two decide to make the frozen pizza, which is cheese and pepperoni.

You decide on Playing it Cool, and Jake preheats the oven, and pulls out the pizza. The pizza is a Freshetta, and you can already taste it.

"Jake, I can already taste the pizza," you say.

"I can't wait. This is going to be the last movie for the night," says Jake.

The pizza is ready, and Jake baked it to perfection. His cooking skills are getting better every time. The pizza smelled divine. Dessert was some candy, and you couldn't wait.

Jake finds a pizza roller, and slices the pizza. He pulls down some plates, and puts a few slices on each plate. He grabs some paper towels, and you two enjoy the movie. You two finish the pizza, and have some candy for dessert. You and Jake brush your teeth, with Jake covering you in toothpaste kisses.

You two snuggle in bed, and go to sleep. You two can't wait until tomorrow, when you'll be watching the Lord of the Rings movies with Jake.

Life with Jake was an easy, effortless and full of surprises. You love your sweet, adorkable, goofball!

positives: music is soooooo good even when it's very "of its time" sonically i love almost every track The credits theme is dog shit however. Well that's a negative. Whatever.

i looove the designs of the lurkers most charming video game guys ever. I don't like that they wear diapers very much. Negative again.

I don't care about the #online #complainers the zoomer handling was fantastic like it wasn't Smooth but it was very weighty and you never feel out of control and i think a lot of the complaints are because it's a little Before its time. very physics-y instead of arcade style handling. Big fan smiles.

Um. I'm giving up on the positive negative format. I think the world design was very hit or miss I don't think the visual designers and the level designers talked to each other very much. I think at its best everything was very clear and readable (most of the first two worlds, and snowy mountain despite not liking it aesthetically) and the worst is like. Gross and busy to the point that it becomes obstructive and difficult to navigate.

i had really really really really bad depth perception experiences i felt like i was in hell during the second half of the game. Not being able to tell where a platform is in relation to you is a bit of a problem in a platformer game ❤️. and the forced side scrolling segments that still had full movement on the z axis were crazy to me. Sorry I know they probably didn't have the technology yet but I wanted to scream.

combined with the Physical Object camera meaning you can't actually arrange it to point in front of you in certain situations because it can't scoot past the wall and the level design situation becoming More dire because the last chunk of the game is just navigating enclosed cave spaces it was very painful.

ps4 port/emulation exclusive complaint: the frame drops and the missed inputs were crazy. they should never have released it like this.

anyway the gameplay mechanics beside all of that were exceptionaaaaaal i can't think of any platformer game at least of that era that had the same type of range of movement. being able to combine different actions into a specific Move ie roll + jump into the far jump, crouch + jump into high jump, double jump + spin to extend your range and "hover" in the air a bit Well I guess Mario 64 had a similar range. I'm not retyping any of this so pretend it doesn't. Anyway all of that works together to make the movement feel more fluid and the player feel like they have more control navigating despite most of the level navigation being very straightforward. no game has ever done this before ☝️

i said this one before. the sound design was really bad. like really disappointing and if you play the game on default audio settings instead of turning the sfx down to like 30 you'll have a noticeably worse time.

the writing was 50% charming in a dated way and 50% the writers not knowing any comical character archetypes other than Stupid Bumpkin (full third of the cast) or Horny Belligerent Rat (daxter)

you were playing luigi and you werent doing a race you were doing more of a battle mode on snowy tracks because this took place in like. A wintery location where you had to win a tournament by playing mario kart akin to the olympics. You were playing a pretty typical coin collecting game and ended at 9 coins which made me pop off because that was a really good score and you did some really clean driving

this rules actually. not realistic i suck at mario kart battle modes 🔥🔥🔥 thank you for this

Bowigi-Snowy escape

Luigi wasn't sure how he ended up in this situation, because being cuddled by your enemy who might not actually be an enemy anymore was a surreal experience. Bowser let out a cute little snore, asleep but Luigi wasn't about to push away, Bowser was warm against his back where as the snow and wind howled outside. their cave.

Mario and Peach were probably looking for him and Bowser right now...He would worry about that later, once they were both awake.

Raph/Saki-A Bad Time

Saki shook in his arms, having woken from a nightmare. Raph knew that Saki would have done the same for him if it had been him to awaken from the nightmares that plagued him.

Booigi-Seriously?

Luigi sighed as he realized that Boo was freaking out and the only thing that was stopping him from going full feral ghost king was the fact that Luigi had his arms around the much smaller-than-normal body. The chill wasn't so bad but the sounds were wrenching his heart, he'd never seen Boo so upset like this, and cuddling him seemed to be the only thing stopping him from letting lose his full madness.

Vlad/Danny-Bittersweet

Danny felt the warmth at his back and wondered what he should do. Vlad could be rather distant at times and then this. Cuddling him like they hadn't had a huge fight. Though he understood sometimes Vlad did things he didn't know were hurtful like tonight until Danny pointed it out.

Cad/Padme-A little rough

She smiled softly at the crazy man in her arms, the holodrama they had been watching playing softly as she'd turned down the volume the moment she'd noticed Cad had fallen asleep on her. It was nice that he trusted her and her protection to keep him safe enough that he could sleep.

Dooku/Obi-Wan-Nighttime

The battlefield was an odd place to be trapped with his grandmaster. Qui-Gon somewhere else in the dense woods, the three of them had been deployed to help with negotiations between the two peoples who lived on the planet but as with most negotiations there was pushback. The attack had caught everyone off-guard..and then Obi-Wan had gotten separated from everyone until he'd literally run into Yan. Now he was in the circle of Yan's arms to conserve their warmth, Obi-wan was glad for the comfort Yan brought.
