The dragoness huffs, blowing a plume of acrid smoke from her nostrils. The plastic garbage had melted from the heat of her maw, congealed in a stinking goop that the wyvern was now chewing as if it were bubble gum.

"Someone's gotta get rid of it somehow," Annalise replies, her forked tongue scraping the roof of her mouth to knock loose more melted plastic.

"It just gets tossed everywhere, and no one seems to care! So I figured, I have a cast iron furnace of a stomach — maybe I could eat the plastic."

Finally, she swallows, the lump of chewed up, melted plastic going straight down her slender throat.

".... Doesn't taste very good, though."

she hadn't raised an eyebrow, but she might've had for all the expectancy she carries in her sentence. no, anna continues cutting up the wild carrots they've found. ellie has gone somewhere, not too far, to fetch some water. they found a well-enough camping ground to stay the night tonight. and the fish they caught ... it ain't bad. anna hasn't had a decent meal in years; this might just be a five-star course, for all she cares.

( she doesn't. if she'd had any five-star course, she'd give every meal right to ellie, no doubt. anna can survive on only water; she had. )
