Celebrating Anocha Suwichakornpong!
“My films are still narrative, though many people say they're not. I think of them as narrative films. Of course, they don’t conform to people’s ideas of how a narrative film should be. But I find narratives in almost every movie. If you have characters, there’s always a narrative for me. I'm more interested in characters and human behaviors rather than plots. I don’t believe in the development of the plot.”

A beautifully illustrated, clothbound compendium presenting significant contemporary art in Southeast Asia, SEA: Contemporary Art in Southeast Asia highlights the dynamic nature of contemporary art in Southeast Asia across generations and borders. This publication provides a unique and timely opportunity to introduce a broad audience to the artistic practices of Southeast Asia as they are connected to major themes of interest, such as community engagement and organization, social and political commentary, gender and identity, environment and ecology, and material traditions and processes. Edited by Ute Meta Bauer, Karin G. Oen, and Boon Hui Tan, this book fills a noticeable void in the landscape of arts publications, serving as an essential guide to artists working in the region. Selected by an international curatorial committee, the work of more than 60 different artists or collectives will be highlighted by introductory texts as well as images of significant works. Artists covered include: #AgusSuwage, #AlfredoandIsabelAquilizan, #AmandaHeng, Anida Yoeu Ali, Anne Samat, Anocha Suwichakornpong, #ApichatpongWeerasethakul, #Arahmaiani, #ArayaRasdjarmrearnsook, #ArinRungjang, Cemeti Institute for Art & Society, #CharlesLimYiYong, Chiang Mai Social Installation, Chris Chong Chan Fui, #DinhQLe, Eisa Jocson, Erika Tan, #FXHarsono, Green Papaya Art Projects, #HemanChong, #HoTzuNyen, Htein Lin, I Gusti Ayu Kadek Murniasih, Khvay Samnang, #KorakritArunanondchai, #LeeWen, Lostgens’ Contemporary Art Space, #MarthaAtienza, #MelatiSuryodarmo, #MingWong, #MoeSatt, #MontienBoonma, Nguyen Trinh Thi, Nha San Collective, #NorbertoRoldan, #PacitaAbad, Pinaree Sanpitak, #PioAbad, Po Po, Poklong Anading, Post-Museum, #RirkritTiravanija, Robert Zhao Renhui, Roberto Feleo, #ruangrupa, #SaSaArtProjects, #ShooshieSulaiman, #ShubigiRao, Sopheap Pich, Suzann Victor, Svay Sareth, #TangDaWu, Taring Padi, #ThaoNguyenPhan, The Artists Village, The Propeller Group, Tiffany Chung, Tisna Sanjaya, Tith Kanitha, Tran Luong, Tun Win Aung and Wah Nu, UuDam Tran Nguyen, #YeeILann and Yeo Siew Hua.
