List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you. Learn to know your mutuals and followers ❤
Sorry this took so long to answer, I usually do answers on my lappy cuz it’s easier for me than on my phone, plus my phone kept trying to eat half of this ask any time I did try to answer it so! Here we go!
In no particular order:
> My family! My husband is my best friend and we get along great. Even when conflict does come up and we end up yelling a bit, by the end we’re cooled off and sit down and discuss how to fix the issue. And I always see him taking these things into consideration and applying them. He’s just, a great guy and I’m lucky to have him. And my son! He’s almost 4! He’s hilarious. My husband is accident prone and often respond with “without hurting yourself” and the other day Son-child said it first. We all laughed. His hair is also ridiculously curly and thick and long, so we had to cut it the other day cuz he was overheating frequently and he refuses pony tails. Or “hair styles” as he calls it. Anyway, moving on.
> Legend of Zelda video games. Literally any of them. They are my top tier gaming love and I could info dump on them for hours. Am I the most knowledgeable about the game series? No. But it’s okay. I enjoy myself.
> For some smells: wood smoke, rain (before, during, after, all good), old books, new books, Old Spice products, cinnamon, cucumber melon, vanilla.
> Really soft textures. Like fluffy blankets and cats.
> That feeling when you have when you listen to music loud, but not deafeningly loud, and you just kinda get lost in it? Like you just wrap yourself in music. Idk. It’s nice.
#ask meme#pocketrambler#i'm probably not gonna inbox anyone tbh#i just feel awkward about it?#if you wanna do this go ahead#lets spread some positivity#thanks for thinking of me#this was a lot of fun

What Jorleesi fanwork would you most like to see? Be it fanart, fanfic, AU, what have you.
(sorry if this was blank the first time. i answered at length via tumblr mobile and nothing published. T_T opened up my lappy to make sure this goes through this time)
thanks for the this, anon! this question caught me off guard errrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... there have been so many bloody good fanworks that this is difficult yet fun to imagine.
AU - wanna get the uncomfortable and bias out first that i seem to like may-december relationships. dunno what that says about me. here we go. jorah, probably battered by life and having a soiled reputation as retired agent/detective/professor/businessman, meeting dany, a new officer/civilian with complaint or caught up in a felony/student/lawyer/paralegal (matches the order in which they were written). it mirrors canon in that dany eventually moves up in life and jorah wholeheartedly supports her but keeps a secret that could ruin their friendship, as well as her reputation. they make up, fall in love, happy ending, yada yada. :)
fanfic - CURRENTLY FIX IT FANFICS ARE BREATHING LIFE INTO ME. that said, a cheesy and too idealistic scenario inspired by other fanfics spring to mind: dany gets to rule a while with able advisers with jorah feeling less useful as time went on and later on asking leave to go to bear island and make amends with his family which he didn’t get to do. dany reluctantly agrees. they separate, dany soon learns that while her dreams got her to where she needs to be, it didn’t exactly get her where she wants to be. she remembers her connection with jorah, realizes what he means to her, and rides off to bear island to be with him, all the while having settled ruling matters with able leaders. jorah, disbelieving, thought it was a political visit until she outright tells him the truth. dany can’t help but be involved with groups in bear island dedicated to its restoration after the devastation with The Others. bear islanders try and get used to dragons flying about in their homeland now and then. it is the little girls who come to dany first to ask her about her dragons.
fanart - any fanart is a treat to see, and is so so so appreciated. that said, i’d love to see (1) bodies close, foreheads meeting, both smiling, content, with eyes either closed or open and looking at one another. tol and smol, (2) them and books... that’s it... to refer to the wedding gift as well as their love of stories, and (3) the controversial one - the balerion kiss, from A Storm Of Swords.
usually i love painful and longing fan works of theirs. i lived for them. even the gifsets i make circle around those. but after the heartbreak that is the finale for both characters, with the reasons being completely opposite for each, i just cannot bear painful ones for now...
apologies for the ridiculously long answer. hope this did not tire you, anon. :)

MY MEMORIES OF JOHANNESBURG - City of GOLD.
article published 4 Feb 2009. Written and compiled by Anne Lapedus Brest.

MEMORIES OF JOHANNESBURG, CITY OF GOLD
Written and Compiled By
© ANNE LAPEDUS BREST
On the 4th February 1961, when I was 14 years old, and my brother Robert was 11, our family came to live in Johannesburg.
We had left Ireland, land of our birth, leaving behind our beloved Grandparents, family, friends, and a very special and never-to-be-forgotten little furry friend, to start a new life in South Africa, land of Sunshine and Golden opportunity…………… The Goldeneh Medina…...
We came out on the “Edinburgh Castle”, arriving Cape Town 2nd Feb 1961. We did a day tour of Chapmans Peak Drive, Muizenberg, went to somewhere called the “Red Sails” and visited our Sakinofsky/Yodaiken family in Tamboerskloof.
We arrived at Park Station (4th Feb 1961), Jhb, hot and dishevelled after a nightmarish train ride, breaking down in De Aar and dying of heat.
We lived in Becker Street, Yeoville, Robert went to K.E.S and I went to Barnato Park (aka Johannesburg Girls’ High) in Berea. Robert was in Cadets , I played hockey, and bunked school (with Gilda Goldblatt!!) Our next-door neighbours were Michael and Sandra Golding, Zena and Teddy Cohen lived in Becker Street also and Ronnie and Nigel Baskin lived in Yeo Street near the Richters - Selma and Charles Richter,.
Girls at Barnato Park lived in mainly Hillbrow, Berea, Yeoville, Bellevue, Houghton, Orchards, Melrose and Dunkeld. After school, many of us would catch the 19 bus from Tudhope Avenue Berea to Raleigh Street, Yeoville, but many girls were collected by beautifully coiffed and bee-hived mothers with long painted nails, arriving to collect them in huge fancy Chevrolets, with big cats’ eye tail-lights.
ONLY IN SOUTH AFRICA …………………………….
Oy, but I had to get used to so many new expressions ……..
“ See you this arvy, Hey? “ and “See you just now, Annie” (I learnt the hard way that “Just Now” didn’t mean immediately)
“There’s the new girl in Form 3, …….. Shame!!” “My sister’s baby is so cute, …… Shame!
People would give me directions and tell me to turn at the robot.
Can I Lend your book?
Whatever I said, the girls would answer “Is it” ?
The shul is full of KUGELS……………….
Why did the bus-conductor call us all “Donkey” when he collected our tickets???? “Thank you,… Donkey” and the Klippies would say it in a high-pitched voice. “Thank you, donkeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyy”
You MUST come visit this arvy, see? You MUST go and see Cliff Richard at the Collosseum. You MUST buy the latest Elvis Presley record. MUST, MUST, MUST (only in South Africa! Say that “MUST” to people overseas, they think you are a control-freak). (took me a while to get used to it!!)
G.C. EMMMMM
Girls would talk about great talent at a party, and they talked about Chracks , boys talked about “good stock” .
It’s a blerry gemors!! Stoep. Goeie Môre , Lekker Bly,
My skat. Klop Dissel Boom gaan! Klappies. Lappies.
Wag ‘n bietjie. I’m Gatvol !!!! Deurmekaar.
Yislaaik! Herrrrrrre ! (Yurrah) Magtig!! …..Maggggggtigggggg !!! Vragtig! …….Vragggggtigggggg !!!!!!
Where’s the jol tonight, hey? Do youse know?
Don’t tune me kak, hey? Ag! Yes no fine. Stovies. He’s fab - such a doll !!!, He thinks he’s such a big Bok. It’s not so lekker.
Howzzit, my China. I smaak you.
Don’t chaaf my cherry, hey! Don’t grip my cherry…
Who do you think you’re looking at, China?
Don’t tune me grief, ek sê. Voetsak! Sies! Ag! Siestog, Jong!
My bike is buggered.
Bugger off !
He donnered her.
She Bliksemed him
They Revolting!
Sommer so …………………..
Don’t talk to them, they are all such Rubbishes.
Stiffies.
It’s Kwaai……..
Well, yes , no fine, Those were the days my friend we thought they’d never end …...
SUBURBS
In those days a majority of the Jewish community seemed to be living in Hillbrow, Berea, Bellevue, Yeoville , Cyrildene, Observatory, Dewetshof, Judith’s Paarl, Highlands North, Houghton, Dunkeld, Melrose, Hyde Park.

I must have been a real “chrack” in those days, coming from Ireland, funny clothes, and even funnier out-of-control curly hair, and an accent nobody could understand. I found it hard to make friends, but I eventually palled up with Gilda Goldblatt (now Galvad) , (daughter of Leslie (Z”l) and Mona Voloshen Goldblatt (O”h), from Webb Street. Leslie (Z”l) was a Choirester in Wolmarans Street Shul) and Gilda and I have remained friends to this day.

Cassettes, and tape recorders, reel-to-reel tape-recorders (I still have one).

How many people remember……. The Black Steer in Yeoville - fab apple crumble and double thick cream and in the 1960s the price of a Steerburger, with Pickled Cucumber, fried onions and salad was 45c ……….but at the Golden Spur, the Burger would cost you 50c and the Yeoville crowd felt that was too expensive!) DAENITE Pharmacy, Orange Grove. Owned by Chookie BRENNER . and the okes that worked there, Mervin Rappoport, Issy Peimer, Cecil Chweidan (O”h), Ivan Dorff, Solly Branstein, and a girl called Lola but I can’t remember her surname. And Dr. Chris Barnard, (Heart Transplants Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town)
And the …… the motor racing at Kyalami Race Track
And the Motor Rallys?. Anyone remember Lionel Gilinsky? He raced something called “Production cars” in “Endurance Races” at Old Grand Central Circuit ( Halfway House, now called Midrand) in the late 60’s and 70’s - and later “Historic” Cars at Kyalami Race Track. He was known to be amongst South Africa’s Top 3 Racing and Motor rally drivers in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Not bad for a boy from Welkom!!

HILLBROW. We always went to The Curzon and Clarendon for 7/6- , ( later 75c,) and then a Bioscope called the International (owned by Herman and Maxwell Youngelson) was opened at the top of Pretoria Street and there it would cost you between 90c and R1.00, but the seats were so comfy and the whole bioscope was so plush, that the Yeovillites felt it was well worth the extra.
Anyone remember The French Hairdressing Saloon (a Mrs. Sher was the manageress) and the OK Bazaars and Carnival Novelty.

The word “THE. ” I learned in school that before a consonant we say “THE” . “THE” bed, “THE” table, “THE” book. And before a vowel the have to prounce the “the” as “THEE”……………. “THEE” Apple, “THEE” elephant, “THEE” egg.
So why then, do we hear (only in South Africa) people saying “THUH” apple, “THUH” Elephant, “THUH” egg. Please hold for “THUH” Operator. And why do some of us say “the PHOTA” when it is clearly “PHOTO”.
FOLKSINGING Era . Who remembers the Nite beat, run by Abe (who ran the tuck shop at the Yeoville Swimming Pool), and the folk-singers Ian & Ritchie ( Ian Lawrence and Ritchie Morris), Des and Dawn (Lindberg)(“And the Seagull’s name was Nelson”) (Dawn wore her hair in two pigtails then) Colin Shamley, Dave Marks (“Mountains of Men” and “Master Jack”) Cornelia, And The Troubador, The College Set - Andy Levy, Hugh Solomon, Norman Cohen) Keith Blundell and the Baladeers, Aubrey and Beryl Ellis. Mervyn and Jocelyn Miller (from Potch). Mel, Mel and Julian (Mel Miller, Mel Green, and Julian Laxton.
BIKERS and the Hell’s Angels, wearing black leather jackets, chains and the peace sign often around their necks, roaring down Pretoria St and Kotze St on Harley Davidsons making a helluva racket, some of the more nervous Biker girls precariously hanging onto their boyfriend’s backs, but “the in girls” didn’t hold on, they somehow balanced themselves by placing their hands nonchelantly behind the seat, looking around, throwing their hair back, with a “don’t- sig–with- me” look, lazer- beam- eyes, -looking–out- through- thick- black- fringes, and a tattoo here and there.
And nobody did “sig” with them, either.
The FLYING SAUCER is where they all met. Pretoria Street, Hillbrow.
Hillbrow’s Eateries and Coffee Bars Doney’s coffee bar for the best cappuccino in town (who remembers Jeftah and George, the Duke) Café Wien (later on), with the most comfortable seats, it was like sitting in your own lounge, Café Krantzler, Dunk-a-donut, The Milky Lane, the Florian (where the bus turned to go down Twist street to Town). Mi Vami, Lucky Luke (Steak House in the 70s), Fontana, open 24 hours a day, (famous for their chickens roasted on a spit,) Pikin-a-chicken, Porter House (Frulatto and the best Pink Sauce in town) not to mention the steaks (not that I ate them being one of the Kosher Kids, but I was sorely tempted, HA HA HA) and the German Beer Keller, The Hamburger Hut, Golden Egg, Bella Napoli. Kiss-Kiss.
The CHEZA in Jeppe Street. Famous for Muesli.
HAIR STYLES and fashion. We dyed our hair black with Palette where you dropped a white tablet into some black gunky muck and we all had pitch black hair. The Blacker your hair, the more “sharp” you were. We teased it and wore it in Wings, and the bigger the Wings were, the more “with it” you were. And remember the stiff petticoats under your many Flared skirts, and cat-eye glasses? Helanca stove-pipes, in all colours. Studded Belts, Box Pleated skirts, and ID Bracelets (with your boyfriend’s name engraved on the inside), Plaid pinafores came later on, and a ridiculous little narrow velvet bow on a clip or hairgrip which we found a space for in the teased bird’s nest, usually just to the back of the fringe. And also a thin chiffon scarf tied around the hair. White high-heeled shoes (I wouldn’t be seen dead in half the things we wore then)
My Mom always said that my hair was like a Bird’s Nest at the back, but then I didn’t have eyes at the back of my head, (just as well). Boys wore their hair sleeked back with Brylcream and Vitalis and all bought their t-shirts from the Skipper Bar. (Arnie, Mervyn, Earle and Barry Sacks) Black t-shirts with thin white and red stripes around the neck. And a corresponding white tee-shirt, with black and red stripes. If you didn’t have one of those, you were not one of the “in” boys!!!!
And then girls started to iron their hair. I remember my Mother used to plonk my head onto the ironing board, and put a brown paper bag on top of it, and iron away until I had sleek straight hair, but then the minute it rained, I looked at though someone has plugged me into an electric socket…. Durbs did the same to all those who had out-of-control hair - Frizzed them out in 2 mns flat, in fact as soon as you got to Van Reenen’s Pass into Natal, you knew you were there because your hair suddenly was on its own mission……..
and who Whirled their hair????? Oy - a bittereh gelechter….. We whirled it One way, then the other way, and you had dead straight hair (until you hit the 505 Club and the first thing you’d notice is that your fringe was just “not there” anymore) and the rest of your poor hair style was all moving in different directions. If it was raining, and you opened your front door, bang went the straight hair.
Remember those little DOEKs we wore on our head when we went to Durbs. I have a photo of myself wearing one.
COME ON GIRLS - who used to sleep with curlers/rollers in their hair!! and who remembers using the inside of a TOILET ROLL as an emergency roller??????? And all this lot would be covered over by a hairnet. Of course morning brought a splitter- of- a- headache from the curlers digging into your head. Anyone remember? Bet you do!!! I DO!! There you are, the big ADMIT………. What on EARTH did we look like? I don’t even want to think about it …………………
I always say that if I have to come back in another life, I want to come back as ME but with dead straight hair. Second choice, I wouldn’t mind coming back as one of my spoilt-out-of-control Dachshunds either (but the straight haired type, not the wiry haired) (ha ha)
GYM: Bodybuilders, weight-lifters and wannabes came strutting out of Gyms such as Sam Busa and Monte Osher all fit and glistening, with huge shoulder muscles, and killer smiles - carrying black gym bags. And Reg Park’s Gym, ALSO somewhere in Hillbrow.
YOGA: Mannie and Alan FINGER, Nina OBEL
MODEL AGENCIES: . Stella Grove and Gianna Pizanello
DANCING STUDIOS and DANCERS: Natalie Stern the late Mercedes Molina, Jeffrey Neiman (Enrique Segovia) & Rhoda Rifkin, Bernice Hotz , Gitanella (Spanish, Ballet,) Shirley Klitzner (O”h) (later in the 70s Hilary Etkind - taught with Rhoda and Jeffrey) (anyone who ever loved Spanish dancing, will remember Mercedes Molina/ Jeffrey Neiman as a brilliant dance duo) (and will remember the very sad passing away of Shirley Klitzner (O”h) when she was barely into her twenties).
PHOTOGRAPHERS. Maurice, Kurt Slesinger, Karklin, when it was fashionable to stand your wedding photo on an small easel on the floor. Either carpet or parquet flooring. Stella Nova .
RUGBY. Alan MENTER Springbok Flyhalf, and Sid NOMIS Springbok - Center, and later Wing), Alan is married to Pam (ex Pretoria) and his Brothers are Brian, Robert (Robbie) and Mandy (Malcolm (Z”l)) Menter. Their Mom Esmé (O”h) grew up with mine, in Dublin. Syd is married to Ann.
CRICKET. Dr. Ali BACHER former South African cricket captain and one of the greastet cricketers in South Africa. Ali BACHER received South Africa’s Sports Merit Award, the country’s HIGHEST athletics honour. Ali is married to Shira (I am friendly with Shira’s sister Marsha KARKLIN,) and I remember their daughter Ann being a Tennis champion when she was just a little kid of 11 in the days of the “Jewish Guild” Other well known South African Jewish cricketers came later on, Mandy YACHAD , and later Adam BACHER, nephew of Dr. Ali Bacher
TYPEWRITERS. My first memory of a type writer was that old black thing with with a keyboard with round circular lettering and a typewriter ribbon. My Mom used one in Dublin, Then I remember the Olivetti and also a swiss typewriter, but the ones where you would have to bash a silver thing on the upper right to go to a new line. I remember electric typewriters, and using a white powdery Tippex thing for covering up mistakes, except that they never quite covered them up, particularly on the carbon copies. And remember the carbon copies.. HA HA, and when I worked for lawyers, they didn’t allow those tippex rub-outs, so one little mistake and you had to start all over again. Remember STENCILS and Roneo-ing various blurb. I can remember using a bright shocking pink liquid with the stencils, I think. We wrote to “Messers. So and so”, and we’d end off with “ I remain, Yours Faithfully”
WEDDINGS and when the Bride/Kallah would change into her “going away outfit” and the blissful couple would leave the wedding to go off on their honeymoon. When Bride’s kept their vails on the entire night. When there were only 4 pole-holders and the Bride’s parents paid for the entire wedding, and the Groom/Chossen’s parents would pay for the booze, the photographer and the flowers.
THE CIRCUS Boswell-Wilkie. I hated the circus, terrified of the animals and sorry for them at the same time, a hypnotized crocodile once got out- of- control and strarted climbing out of the ring into the screaming audience. Clowns clowning around were never my scene, and when the trapeze artists or the tight-rope walkers did their act, my heart was always in my mouth, terrified they would fall or something. One did once, I can never get that memory out of my mind.

Around 1964 came the Beatles, (“8 days a week”, “Love Love me do” and later, “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heart’s club Band” “Hey Jude”) The Rolling Stones, (Angie) the Mini Skirt era and Mary Quant and the birth of the Discothèque . Op Art earings in gaudy colours and the skirts continued to get shorter. Girls wore double breasted Pin stripe suits which made a come back. The Boutiques were born. I remember the BENATER family had a great boutique “Carnabies”, at the top of Rissik Street, or near there. It was, I think, the first shop of it’s kind. Very modern, trendy and for the young (20s and 30s). And the Pink Panther was in Hillbrow - Also very trendy gear.
Remember Twiggy?………. She was on every Magazine cover, often holding her Teddy Bear, feet pidgeon-toed, with beautiful big brown eyes, and a body so thin, she could fit through a crack in the wall. She started a trend, her, and “the Shrimp” - (Jean Shrimpton), and Mary Quant.
AND Op Art Earings in strange shapes and gaudy colours, shorter skirts, and flattie shoes.
The First Disco was at the Summit Club, Marrakech, (around 1966) with Go-Go dancers Dixie, Felicity Fouché, and Christine all dancing away in the micro-est of Mini-Skirts. Johnny Martin (previously known as Martin Raff) was the owner, and I heard he also owned a club called 007.
Someone called Neville Peacock was the Marrakech DJ and there were psychdelic and ultra violet lights and if you stood under the latter, all your “klein-goed” shone like a beacon for all to see.
And the 505 also in Hillbrow. Eddie Eckstein and Paul Ditchfield - The Bats played there on a Sunday ), and the Diamonds and Gene Rockwell (Heart!”) as did the Basemen (Ronnie Cline on Keyboard, Ralph Simon – Singer, Rodney Caines – Bass Guitar, Leon Bilewitz – drummer and Irwin Kalis – Lead Guitar) and Clive Calder, (Les Markowitz on drums) also played at “Club-a-go-go” and also they toured around the countryside and played at various venues.
Also Johnny Congos (“Sealed with a Kiss”), Johnny and the G-Men, and Johnny Sharp, 4 Jacks and a Jill. The Staccatos. Did I mention Manfred Mann? (“pretty Flamingo”)
MORE CLUBS - TJ’s (town) and The Yellow Submarine (Hillbrow) (owned by Martin HART) and the Boat (Buccleuch) were in the latter part of the sixties and the Downstairs later called The Purple Marmalade somewhere in Hillbrow. Another Disco was owned by George McCauley, brother of Ray, opposite Joubert Park (Club-A-Go-Go), His Granny worked in the tuckshop and was always so nice to everyone. The Band there was the “Falling Leaves” and George was in the Band. The Electric Circus, And Raffles , a very fancy disco/restaurant but that was in the late 70s. Owned by Dave Kerney. (I think). The Stable in Jan Smuts Avenue. The Out of Town Club
And who remembers the other Bioscopes - The Colosseum with the twinkling lights, Cliff Richard sang there once, and a few girls from Barnato Park were expelled for bunking school and going to his concerts. His Majestys, Monte Carlo (French Movies), The Empire, 20th Cen. Fox - Pritchard Street, Cinerama (Claim and Noord) In those days there was an interval after the News and the Cartoons, and Usherettes would be standing at each exit with a tray with all the Munchies and Chocolates, cold-drinks, etc. The Apollo in Doornfontein. I’ve already mentioned the Yeoville Bioscopes earlier on. Who remembers the “Midnight Shows” the Astra and the Victory in Orange Grove, The Rex in Greenside. The Plaza, the Bijou in town and some flea-bitten run down Café Bio which no decent self-respecting girl would touch with a barge-pole, but I can’t remember it. A lot of the Yale College boys went there. But not the girls!!!!
People smoked in the bioscopes (“scopes”) then and when you looked up, you saw it all swirling around in smoke from the projector. Nice and healthy!! but nobody ever noticed it. It was just a part of life in the sixties.
REMEMBER WHEN ………. we went to Bioscope on a Saturday night, dressed up in your A-line dress, or a Box- Pleated skirt, or tiny hound’s-tooth straight skirt in black/white and your black patent high-heeled shoes, with a Black Patent leather bag to match, and your gloves (which you carried in your hand). And later you wore your Dress with the shorter hemline, Mini-Skirts, and your “A-line evening coat” (Jackie Kennedy), just on the knee, and your flattie shoes, the hair teased up to the high heavens and lacquered so heavily that if it rained, you looked like glue. (Boys hated teased and lacquered hair)
And the boys wore jarmins and Elvis Presley hair-styles with thin ties made of nylon or similar in a machine-crochet style. (Later when the Beatles came in, boys’ hairstyles changed forever, and no boy would be seen dead with Brylcream or Vitalis plastered on his head). Boys would never previously been seen in pastel colours, but the Beatles changed all those dark shirts for pink, mauve and lemon, with a pin collar near the tie.
Boys would buy you a 75c box of Black Magic chocolate at Interval. If you put it into your black patent leather handbag and never offered him one, then your name was mud, and girls judged boys by whether they opened the car door for you …. or not!
AND SOME OF THE MOVIE STARS …., Natalie Wood, Kathryn Hepburn, Rock Hudson, Doris Day, Steve McQueen, Sohia Loren, Alain Delon (the heart-throb of the 60’s) (who remembers him in “Purple noon”) Gina Lollobridgida, Raquel Welsh, Bridgitte Bardot, Ursula Andress, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson (One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest), Shirley McLaine, Julie Christie, Michael Caine, Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Paul Newman, Sal Mineo, Suzanne Pleshette, Richard Burton, Sean Connery, Omar Sharif, Charlton Heston, Gregory Peck (to die for?) James Dean
POPULAR MOVIES. West side story, King Kong, Gone with the Wind, Exodus, Dr. No, *From Russia with Love, * (Remember in that movie, the Russian woman (was her name someone KREBBS?) who had a knife come out of her boot and it shot straight into poor Sean Connery’s shin bone. EINA! Just thinking about it, hurts me) Bridge on the River Kwai, Dr. Zhivago, Goldfinger, (it had a great theme song in it by I think Shirley Bassey) Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Annie Get your Gun, Dingaka.
And the DRIVE INs Old Pta Road - Jhb Drive in, The 5-Star (Eloff St.Ext), The Velskoen (If a girl was seen at the drive in with a boy, she got a “bad name” and the same for the Café Bio’s. It was just not for a nice Jewish girl!!
REMEMBER WHEN ….. there was NO Bioscope on Sunday nights
THEATRES. Alhambra (Doornfontein) , Brian Brooke (Braamfontein), Market Theatre ( Newtown), Alexander theater , Jacques Brel, Apollo (Doornfontein).
Remember the Adverts for all the Cigarettes, Players, Craven "A", Dunhill (remember the maroon Rolls Royce?) Benson & Hedges (Gold) , Lexington (That’s the one!), Gunston (remember him on a raft, all macho, manly, unshaven and rough and ready tumbling through impossible rivers?) Horseshoe Tobacco, Gold Dollar, Texan, (which the boys would hold between their thumb and middle finger) Lucky Strike, Gauloise and Peter Stuyvesant (for the fun lovers, remember the wonderful places they went to and the great clothes they wore, swimming in glorious lagoons, skiing down snow-capped mountains, all the beautiful people, all having wonderful fun?) I never smoked,(well, I have to say that, in case my family read this article, ha ha) but after I watched the Peter Stuyvesant adverts, I really felt like buying a packet , so that I too, could go to all those magical places, and I’d look glamerous too, HA HA - (the power of advertising!) (A Bittereh Gelechter!!)
But it just looked so “in” to see people smoking, and girls would hold the cigarettes at the tips of their fingers, and waved their hands for effect as they spoke, shaking their fringes out of their eyes. People who didn’t smoke, were “squares”.
I remember Celeste GREENBLATT, taught me how to apply black pencil inside my eyelids, and ‘base” onto my face and to wear white lipstick and I taught Sandra STEIN (later Ezra) to dye her hair black, and the blacker the better, (her Mother had a FIT) - Golda (née Kaufman) (O”h) whom I saw yearly in LA and she never failed to remind me !
FLORA and FAUNA in South Africa. I remember once being enthralled by the most magnificent yellow creeper we had growing on the fence in Becker Street. I took photos of it, and sent it to my friends in Dublin to show the exotic flora and fauna is this beautiful sunny South Africa, until Michael GOLDING next door, laughed his head off and said “but that’s only Canary Creeper, it’s not much better than a common garden weed”!! African Violets, Jasmin, Golden Shower, Begonia Sherera, Bougainvillea, Pointsettia, Birds of Paradise, Cycads?. Maybe they do grow overseas too.
PARTIES in Observatory, Cyrildene and Dewetshof. We rock ‘n rolled to Elvis Presley’s “Jail house rock” & “Don’t step on my blue suede shoes”, “Rock around the Clock” in our flared skirts with stiff petticoats underneath, the more the better, and huge belts around our waists, and we wore flat shoes (75c at Maram’s chemist, and 95c for the leopard skin ones). And later we twisted with Chubby Checker (Let’s Twist again, like we did last summer ) We also did a dance called the Shake – anyone remember the song “I’ll do the Shake, the hippy- hippy shake” and also a dance called the Madison.
The Bez Valley Ou’s, on a Sat night Jol, and the Lebs would sometimes gatecrash. Usually a Scuffle and the girl’s father would have to ask them to leave. Sometimes, in stubborn cases the police would have to be called in to skop them all out. And then the party continued on, Little Richard, Cliff Richard, - sometimes a few of the kids would have a bit of “dagga”, (a zol), on the stoep or in the back garden when they thought nobody was looking, and the only way anyone kopped on was because they would come back to the party with a manic laugh, and red eyes. (and of course the smell, but if you admitted to knowing the smell, then it meant you were a dagga smoker yourself!) Trini Lopez. “If I had a hammer”
SOCIALS at Oxford Shul, The Vrede Hall, Yeoville Recreation Center, Temple Shalom, and Bands like “Dinkie and the Deans” - Jake (Gerald) Fox (Z”l) (rhythm Guitar), Barry Sacks (Lead Guitar), Spencer Hodgson (Bass guitar) and Errol Sack on the drums, would play, they also played at the Club 505 in “the Brow”. Peter Lotus well known Jhb Disc Jockey, I think he sang as well. Lots of singers used to go to Margo’s on a Sunday Afternoon, and the crowd would all hot-foot it out there after them to hear music. I think it was Bapsfontein, or near there). There was little else to do on a Sunday, so many places were closed. Just remembered another band, Dave Levine and the Swinging Angels. Les Gutfreund was one of the band and made a name for himself as Les Goode. “Dickie Loader and the Blue Jeans” Gene Rockwell – Heart.
NIGHT CLUBS and Bands. Bennie Michaels, Archie Silansky and his daughter Carole Sands The Coconut Grove at the Orange Grove Hotel, Dan Hill (Ichilchik), The Colony at the Hyde Park Hotel, Sardi’s, The Mediteranean (I Cinque di Roma), Diamond Horseshoe, The Greek Taverna, Ciro’s (Kruis Street)

Putzys. McCullogh & Bothwell (School Uniforms).
REMEMBER WHEN we would get all dressed up to go to town, to have tea at Ansteys sitting alongside Ladies in beautiful outfits, white gloves, smart, elegant, men in suits, with white shirts and ties
MUSIC Soul music was popular in the 60s, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Carla Thomas, Otis Redding (“sitting on the Dock of the Bay”), Percy Sledge (“ Midnight Hour”, and Music from Brasil, Sérgio Mendes, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana brass.
And of course, Johnny Mathis, Charles Aznavour, Simon and Garfunkel, José Feliciano
And …. REMEMBER WHEN , our Mothers would ring a little bell at suppertime, and the “servant” (oi, how COULD we have??) would come in with the next course. And when your “boy” did the garden and the “girl” cooked.

AND REMEMBER WHEN the only children at a barmitzvah function were the Barmitzvah boy and his siblings, who were allowed to stay up for the night. The entire Simcha was for adults and the only time you heard the Barmi boy, was when he made his speech. Robert’s Barmitzvah was a Kiddush at home after Shul, and a “tea” that evening for a few friends of my Parents. Many kids had that kind of Barmi. Who knew then from Theme Barmitzvahs.
AND …..When Children were children, and played snakes and ladders, and ludo, dominoes, monopoly, yo-yo’s, and they read out of the Local Libraries and they played Cowboys and Indians, ( just entertained themselves. You could hear what sounded like a few thousand chickens all clucking their heads off and the poor fellow was protesting, saying that it was the wrong number, it wasn’t him, some mistake and besides, he had a small balcony, and he didn’t have room for crates of chickens, but The “Station Master” kept on saying that he has nowhere for them either, the fellows’ name and address were on the crates and the chickens were going to be on their way, shortly.. What a “lag” that was. DISCLAIMER. This article has been written from my memories of S.Africa from 48 years ago, and if a Shul, or Hotel, or a Club is not mentioned, it doesn’t mean that they didn’t exist, it means, simply, that I don’t remember them. I can’t add them in, either, because then the article would not be “My Memories” any more.

The Imp, the Spirit and the FTP Server.
Reading was always one of Raven's passions. In fact, for much of her life reading was one of the only things she was ever allowed to do other than meditate. When she came to earth one of the blessings she cherished were the huge libraries. The easy access to knowledge and stories. She often thought that when she read she added to herself, new ideas and tastes of emotions she could not risk trying to feel for herself.
The passion for the written word was the reason why she was sitting in front of Beast Boys unattended laptop. Raven never had much use for the internet. It was all 'misspelled noise' She told Starfire once when she found the 'Wonderful book of facing’ and started begging her to join. Yet the blocks of neat text on the screen caught her eye. But this was Beast Boy this was most likely a video game guide or some other waste of perfectly good words.
When she started reading, Raven couldn’t be more surprised. She couldn't look away, the words just pulled her in so easily. The browser was opened to a writing site and a large collection by an author called GML. Several dozen short but captivating stories. Before she knew it, she finished the first story and was onto the next one, then the next. Each one pulled at her in a different way.
One was a sad and morose tale of a lost friend, what the main character should have said to save her. Another about exploring an alien world with an older brother. Raven read one that nearly brought her to tears, and the next one made her feel as bright as morning. They were like eating peanuts, she had read six stories before she heard Beast Boy bellow "Hey Dudes! Anyone see my PC?!"
She had no idea what she was thinking, but by the time Beast Boy had come into the common room. His laptop was closed, Raven was sitting in a lotus position chanting, and a link to the site was in her e-mail.
"There you are Lappy!" Beast Boy exclaimed scooped up the device.
"You named your laptop?" Raven asked one eye opened?
"This is not just a laptop! Its Lappy! connector to Social Networks and lord of Farmville!" He declared proudly holding the computer up as it held ultimate power.
"Please take your porn gateway and leave me alone" Raven closed her eyes and resumed her chanting.
"Raven?"
"What?"
"You can get porn on the Internet? Please tell me more?" He asked with fake enthusiasm and his eyebrows dancing for emphasis.
"You know what you can also get on the internet? Obituaries." a sharpness lining her voice.
"Well I am leaving, you are a bad influence on my computer. Come along Lappy." Best Boy turned away petting the laptop like it was a loyal puppy.
It was nearly 1:00 am and Raven found herself using one of the ops room computers. The hardest part was remembering her email password. She dived right back into the collection of GML and soon she was lost in the words. The stories were just short enough to keep her wanting more and the characters seemed so familiar. They must have been borrowed from other stories she had read, or modeled after historic figures but for some reason she couldn’t place them, even though everything they did or said fell into place in her mind like puzzle pieces.
There were several stories about a forest Imp trying to impress a beautiful moon Spirit. The Imp was full of life and humor. Willing to go out of his way doing to most ridiculous things just trying to make the Spirit smile. The Spirit was described as elegant and ethereal, yet so cold would reject the Imp every time. It was heartbreaking to see the Imp get rejected again and again but he loved her, he would keep coming back for more.
It was 3 am before she was finished with all the stories. Ravens eyes burned from staring at the screen. She made her way to the couch to lay down and let the words of GML play in her mind. Sleep claimed her.
The next morning, she woke up to the clicking of the keyboard Beast Boy was sitting at the terminal she was using the night before. She did remember to log out, didn’t she?
He swiveled in the chair to face her their eyes met and he wore a smile that chilled her. "You know you favorited all of them, but the one about the finding the magic dog. What was wrong with that one?"
She was on her feet instantly and rage was front and center. Beast Boy was very close to a long vacation someplace very hot. At least he was till "I am glad you like my work" fell from his lips.
She froze. His work. HIS WORK.
"Your work?" the words came out weekly with almost a squeaking sound she was not aware she could make.
"G. M. L. Garfield. Mark. Logan.” He said slowly spinning in the chair. “You really didn’t think I would sign anything on the internet 'Beast Boy'? Robin would love that!"
Her mind ran back to what she read the night before. The stories started to line up to missions and battles they all fought. She started recognizing the others from the stories, and she recognized herself.
A moment ago, she was ready to destroy him for violating her privacy, only to find out that in a very weird way that she violated Beast Boys. The stories might have been on the internet for the world to see but no one knew that the characters were real.
A chunk of ice started forming in the base of her throat and starting to spread into her chest. She thought that some of the things that the Moon spirit had done and said were so callous, so hurtful. It put new light on the things that she had said to him over the years.
"You really wrote all of that?" she asked not knowing what else to say but needed to fill silence.
"We all got stuff to deal with.” He leaned back in the chair and started examining the ceiling. “You meditate, I do this." With a swing of his legs he stood up to face her. "I tried a journal, Rita said it would help, but it was easier to turn my life into a story. Then I thought why not share it. "
"Those are all our missions"
"The more interesting ones, with a little artistic license”
"Do you really see me like that?"
"Like what?" he asked quietly, carefully, knowing exactly what she meant but not sure if he wanted to hear the answer. He knew what he wrote, it wasn’t meant to hurt her, but she had hurt him many times.
"Am I really that cold?”
“Rae, I see the Moon Spirit as beautiful, lonely, isolated and unique, and that’s why the Imp loves her. I see you as someone I don’t get, but I can’t let you go. You keep bouncing around my head. "
“Her image stayed with him, in dreams, in passing glances and would wonder into his mind if it was left idle” She said quoting one of the last stories she read.
“It took me 2 hours to come up with that line. Spent most of it banging my head against a wall.” He looked away putting his hands in his pockets.
"Is the Moon spirit ever going to give the Imp a Chance?"
"You tell me, but the Imp isn't going to give up. That boy is a glutton for punishment." The words broke his mouth into a smile.
"Does the Imp want to go for a walk?"
"I would love too, let me go get Lappy"
First thing I have written in so long. Actually I wrote most of this last year but never was able to get past the rough spots till now. I have been in a funk lately but writing is not going to get any easier if I don’t do it. I have so many drafts and half finished things. New ideas come but sometimes the scariest thing in the world is a blank screen. So this one went a little meta, but who doesn't love the idea that Beast Boy might also write fan-fiction?

I was tagged by @cynessie!
RULES: Share 11 facts about yourself, answer 11 questions provided by the tagger, tag 11 awesome people and leave 11 questions for them to answer!
I’m thinking of changing to a Literature degree...
I own two stuffed doggies that are over 20 years old. One is a stuffed dalmatian with a squeaker inside. The other is a teeny tiny pup that was part of a scrunchie but my mother torn it off because a) I would always take the scrunchy off to play with the puppy and b) the scrunchie got stretched out. It’s had an ear and an eye re-sewn back on (by 9-year-old me), a makeshift tail I made out of the scrunchie’s fabric (again, at 9), and it wears a cute flowery scarf that used to belong to a Barbie.
Never doubt my ability to listen to a single track for hours on loop.
I like baking.
I want to get a tattoo, but I still don’t know what I want it to be.
Growing up, I was super deadset on being a mom. Nowadays it’s like, “Man, I’d love to, buuuuuut that’s probably not a good idea for me.”
I’ve never played Pokemon Go, but I sure have been playing a ton of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links.
I’m one of those people who gets like a dozen creative ideas at a time but never actually does anything with them.
I have two dogs: Peluche and Oreo II.
I have a godson named Steven and he loves Minecraft. Before the SU episode “Super Watermelon Island” aired, whenever we played together and he would find lapis lazuli deposits, I would excitedly exclaim, “Steven found Lapis!” It drove my sister crazy.
One of the most annoying things I’ve experience on this website are the English-speaking white people (especially the American ones) freaking out about people growing up “with no childhood” just because we didn’t read the same books/watch the same shows growing up. Like GOOD GOD, I couldn’t speak English when CatDog was airing (nor did I have any way of watching it) and honestly, I feel like my life is a hell of a lot better for it, ya weirdos. :/
And now for questions:
Where is the coolest place you’ve ever been? It was a cathedral in Canada... that was like seven years ago, though. Can’t remember the name.
What was the first thing you remember wanting to be when you grew up? A mermaid...
Look to your right. What do you see? The kitchen.
What are you procrastinating on? Besides homework? Ace Attorney 5 and Xenosaga Chapters 2 and 3.
Which family member are you closest too and what is their name? Used to be my mom, but now I think it’s my sister... Not gonna disclose her name, though. Sorry.
What’s the last song you listened to? I was at a birthday party with family yesterday, so naturally there were so many Spanish songs. XD I think the last one they played was “Ahora quien” by Marc Anthony.
What do you generally carry in your bag/pockets when you go out? Oh, you know. ID, money, keys, cell phone. The usual.
What is one thing you are excited for? Hm... I guess the new Pokemon USUM.
Do you believe in ghosts? Sort of?
What is a skill you want to learn? How to motivate myself into living life. Aww man, I really want to learn how to draw, but I’m too self-conscious about my ideas to ever actually sit in plain view of my family and let them see what I’m doing. As soon as I can afford my own place, though, I am definitely gonna get to it. Maybe take some classes, too!
Tell me a joke. PSSH. These young whippershnappers today with all their fancy-schmancy tech. They keep everything on their lappy tops, even their porn! Back in my day, if we wanted boobies on our machines, we had to type 5318008 on our calculators and flip it upside-down!
----------
My questions are:
What series are you really into right now (books, comics, movies, manga, anime, shows, etc.)?
Do you have a preferred genre of music, and if so, what is it?
What’s one of the nicest compliments anyone has ever given you?
What kind of games do you like (video games, board games, party games, etc.)?
Do you have a favorite recipe?
What’s something you changed your opinion on?
In a world where everyone has superpowers, what superpower would you NOT like to have?
Do you have any piercings?
Is there something popular that you don’t really get why it’s so popular?
Do you prefer cold beverages or hot ones?
Are you working on any personal project right now?
I tag: @audikatia, @herasyndlla, @turkeybaconese, @prismatic-bell, @holly-yoshi, @yorkscoffee, @miadearden, @rockscanfly, @justplainsomething, @elsakey, @eruriku

Rules: Answer all questions, add one question of your own and then tag as many people as there are questions.
Coke or Pepsi? Coke. Pepsi has that overly sweet tang. Although here in Spain I’m more likely to go for Bitter Kas, which I think might not actually be available anywhere else. It’s delicious, like a nonalcoholic Campari.
Disney or Dreamworks? I don’t even pay attention to which studio’s made the thing, but my Inner Child says Disney.
Coffee or tea? Both. Coffee for breakfast and after lunch, and if I’m out socializing and we chill at a cafe. Tea basically at all other times, and there are a lot of those.
Books or movies? Both.
Windows or Mac? Okay, I’ve only recently gotten a feel for Mac. I like that all my thingies are connected - the iPad, the phone, the lappie. So I’m cool with it. But by god do I hate that I can’t fiddle with it. I can’t trouble shoot anything. Let me see your insides. So, y’know, Windows has its perks. Although the last version of it that I saw - whatever came after Vista - was ugly as fuck.
DC or Marvel? Marvel, hands down.
Xbox or Playstation? Back in my day, we had Nintendo, and we liked it.
Night owl or early riser? The significant owl hoots in the night. (Yet many grey lords go sadly to the masterless men.)
Cards or Chess? Chess is one, long, boring game. Cards is many games! With many people! Or alone! Fuck chess, is what I’m saying. Now, checkers, though...
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate. Vanilla is only good as an amplifier for chocolate.
Vans or Converse? Neither. Vans look hideous and thick and unbendy, and I’ve worn Converse and they ate my socks and were also thick and unbendy and just all around terrible.
Star Wars or Star Trek? Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew.
One episode per week or marathoning? Marathon if I’m catching up, if not, one episode per week is cool. Depends on the show. Grey’s Anatomy is a lovely thing to do weekly. Other shows like The 100 I want to shove into my eyeballs as fast as I can. And other shows, like The Walking Dead or How to Get Away With Murder, I can only survive by watching once per week because if not I might stop watching altogether.
Gandalf or Obi-Wan? I’m only familiar with Padawan Obi-Wan, and much of that is clouded by The Sith Academy, but then The Hobbit made me loath Gandalf so... Professor Charles Xavier.
Heroes or Villains? Both!
John Williams or Hans Zimmer? I had to google John Williams, so my choice is obvious: Ramin Djawadi
Disneyland/Disney World or Six Flags? I have only vague memories of Disney World, so I’m going to say La Ronde. Because yes. It made me like rollercoasters.
Forest or sea? Forest. Give me them critters!
Flying or reading minds? Flying.
Twin Peaks or Northern Exposure? I have watched neither of these, so The Twilight Zone.
Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings? Uuuuugh. Um. Harry Potter, because there’s a greater chance I’ll reread it. I guess.
Cake or Pie? Cake, but only through lack of adequate pie exposure. Anyone care to send over a pecan pie?
You are banished to a desert island. Which Benedict Cumberbatch character would you choose to take with you? Classified, from Penguins of Madagascar 2, but if he has to be human, then Rory Slippery from Fortysomething.
Train or Cruise ship? Wait, for an extended stay? Cruise ship. For transportation? ...okay, look, old timey trains have their charm, and the chuga-chuga and the swaying is awesome. But most trains don’t do that anymore. Which ugh, fine, speed is better, whatever. (And sleeping on a train is fun but like, one night only, bro. Shit gets cramped.) So, uh, I gotta say. Cruise ship all the way baby.
Brian Cox or Neil deGrasse-Tyson? I barely know either of them but um Neil deGrasse-Tyson?
Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland? I don’t know if I’ve actually watched the Wizard of Oz, whereas I’ve read both Alice books and watched a few film adaptations. So Alice in Wonderland. But for the love of all that’s pure in the world, stop making film adaptations. Or at least go back to the books and stop trying to be Disney.
Fanfiction or fanart? Both. Both is good.
The Hunger Games - Books or movies? Books. I inhaled those fuckers.
Be able to see the future or travel into the past? DINOSAURS.
Han Solo or Luke Skywalker? Gotta go for grumpy Han Solo. My kind of bro.
Lilacs or sunflowers? Okay, look. Sunflowers are for eating. This whole new shenangign fashion of using sunflowers as decorative flowers disconcerts me. That said, gimme a sunflower with sunflower seeds all ready to be eaten and I’ll be in heaven. (And the smell!) I still remember a flower I ate in my grandma’s garden back when I was teeny tiny. But I mean if I gotta pick a flower - one that hasn’t got it’s seed game going - then fine. Lilacs.
Spring or autumn? Rainy season. *weeps* I miss living in the tropics.
Campfire or fireplace? Campfire.
Watch a gory horror or a family-friendly animation? You had to say gory, didn’t you? *sigh* If it were just a horror movie or family-friendly animation, then horror all the way. But you throw in gore and just... *more sighing* Fine. Bring on the talking dogs and comical misadventures.
New Question:
Hercules: The Legendary Journeys or Xena: Warrior Princess: Hercules, because Iolaus.
Tagging: @seschat, @chaosvizier, @nuingiliath, @capn-mactastic and no more! “As many people as there are questions,” ha. As if.

It’s been like forever that we have seen a groundbreaking revamp in Laptops. But, with the growing workflow in the fast-paced mobile life, a larger expanse of the screen seems to be on call. While folding phones had the initial rage, the trend seems to switch sides to laptops. As such, the upshot appears to be Dual Display Laptops!
To be fair, there have been some experiments, which were few and far between. While the decade-old Asus Taichi and Acer Iconia 6120 were far ahead the times, the Asus Zenbook Duo and HP Omen X 2S of yesteryear felt like mere stepping stones. But, with the recently concluded CES 2020, the center stage was dedicated to Dual Display Laptops. Several brands showcased their multi-display lappies. Granted they were mostly fresh out of labs and the actual time to market might be afar.
So, the question looms whether you should be excited about the purposed shift in laptop design. Like any other technological transition, the inception stage will attract early adopters. But, before biting the bullet, you must be wary of a few things.
Challenges with Dual Display Laptops
Here are a few points to take note before betting your money on the neoteric technology –
Multi-display devices must have evenly responsive touchscreens without performance hiccups.
Two or more displays will slurp more juice and hence brands need to come up with better power optimization.
More displays mean more addition to laptop heft. Since a laptop is an ‘on-the-go’ gadget, it should be as light and handy as possible. Moreover, a display-centric device will involve hand movements and as such, ergonomics takes precedence.
The hinge mechanism must be flexible yet sturdy.
Using a virtual keyboard or modular one might demand a learning curve. So, typing and functioning the new input means will require some getting used to.
Further, the panels must be better resistant to scratches, glossiness, etc.
The software *cough* Windows 10X *cough* must tailor the UI according to the new format. Further, app development must pace to utilize the larger canvas and use scenarios.
You may have to spare more to own one, at least in the early years before the tech matures.
But, all these are more like suggestions to bake a better computing experience. After all, innovation propels progress and its only a matter of time that all the issues get fixed. On that optimistic note, here are the possibilities that the Dual Display tech could bring about.
Possibilities with Dual Display Laptops
A selling point for Dual display laptop is the maximum productivity it warrants on a large yet portable expanse. This ensures avenues for better multitasking, seamless sharing of data between apps and above all a creative use of the space. One could use the peripheral display for reference, comparison, instruction, etcetera. Creative Folks out there, take note!
This also proposes increased collaboration and communication
If one doubts their relevance in the presence of dual desktop monitors, the answer is – lesser space consumption.
The touch screen employs swipes and gestures which ensues innate and natural modes of navigation. It’s a playground for those who love fiddling with a stylus.
The tech is cutting-edge, which comes with a fancy and premium appeal.
Best Dual Display Laptops Announced Thus Far
Asus Zenbook Pro Duo
The Zenbook Pro Duo has a 15.6-inch 4K resolution OLED panel as the main display. This is a Pantone Validated screen with 100 percent DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. The secondary screen christened the ScreenPad Plus stretches a 14-inch touchscreen with 4K resolution and 32:9 aspect ratio. It has a matte finish.
You can drag content from one screen to another. Asus’ own ScreenXpert control lets you run some tailor-made apps on this small screen. There is an App Switcher key to swap screens without a slouch. The built-in ViewMax feature makes things even more interesting by allowing a single app across both screens.
HP Omen X 2S
Hp Omen X 2S flaunts a primary 15.6-inch LCD panel (144Hz refresh, full HD resolution and NVIDIA’s G-Sync compatible), followed by a secondary, 5.98-inch 1080p multitouch screen right above the RGB lit keyboard. The use cases are somewhat similar to the Asus laptop given above.
Lenovo Think book Plus
youtube
Now, this one has a different approach to the whole dual-display concept. The primary display is a 13.3-inch, 1920 x 1080, an anti-glare screen with 300 nits of luminosity. Lenovo has placed the second display on the bonnet. But, this is just an e-ink panel capable of presenting black and white color only. So, the use case is limited to jotting something, reading docs or glancing the reminders and task notifications.
Dell Duet
youtube
This one has a resemblance to the Microsoft Duo. The obvious difference is in the larger footprint and a modular keyboard. The hinge can rotate 360 degrees opening up different form factors. Dell offers a few gestures to navigate the UI. On the periphery, there are two USB-C ports.
Intel Honeycomb Glacier
Source: ExtremeTech
As the name suggests, the laptop has a 2D honeycomb structure accommodating a native companion display. The main display is a 15.6-inch FHD panel and right beneath it, there’s the secondary 12.3-inch screen. When unfolded fully, the two displays are backed by a two-hinge system along with a keyboard at the base.
Under the hood, there is an Intel Core i9 processor coupled with Nvidia GTX 1070. The heat dissipation is handled by the proprietary star-field cooling system. Other things included in the mix are the Tobii eye-tracking feature.
Intel Twin River
Source: Geek.com
This Intel prototype combines two 12.3-inch panels, which, with a 1080p resolution and an aspect ratio of 3:2. Under the hood, it ran on an Intel Whiskey Lake U-series quad-core processor. Intel had structured the motherboard into two compartments. Whilst the CPU, storage and memory were nesting on the top, the bottom portion held networking, connectivity, and I/O modules. Another unique aspect was the use of fabric coating on the periphery.
Razer Project Valerie
youtube
Touted as the world’s first automated triple display laptop, it’s surely one spectacular piece of machinery. Three 17-inch screens with the two peripheral screen that can be slid open from the side of the main screen. All three sports 4K IGZO displays powered by Nvidia’s G-Sync technology.
It’s an obvious target for hardcore gaming. As such, the feature set also boasts Nvidia 180-degree Surround FoV, full Adobe RGB color spectrum, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics with 8 gigs of video RAM, a cool 32GB of system RAM, and vapor-chamber heat dissipation mechanism.
Acer Iconia 6120
This one’s a throwback from the past. The Acer Iconia 6120 ushered in a dual display model back in 2011. However, due to technological disabilities, the tablet couldn’t set a trend. Yes, it was marketed as a tablet back then. But, it had a larger surface area than a tablet. The Toshiba Libretto would better fall into the category of a tablet.
Both the displays were of 14-inches with 1366 x 768 pixels resolution. The glossy panels were conjoined by a 180-degree tiltable hinge. Iconia was propelled by a Core i5 processor.
Asus Taichi 21
youtube
This is yet another retrograde in the evolution timeline of laptop design. Taichi’s second display happened to be on the lid. You could use the laptop as a tablet while closed. And in the opened state, you could either mirror screens or show different content on the surface screen, so that anybody sitting across you can see and interact with it. There was even a Screen Share in-house app that presents a small preview window of the back screen contents on the inner screen. Both screens measured 11.6-inch with 1080p resolution.
Other things included an Intel Core i5 CPU clocked at 1.7GHz, housed with 4GB of RAM, 128GB of solid-state storage, and two USB 3.0 ports.
Best foldable Laptops announced so far
The following might not cut for a dual or multi-display format, per se. But, their use case somewhat falls under the same gamut.
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold
youtube
Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Fold was unveiled at CES 2020. It folds inward on itself. The torque hinge juts out a little. The screen accepts pen-input and multi-touch. Yeah, you get a pen bundled with it. As for the display itself, it spans a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Inside, it harbors an unnamed Intel processor. The rest of the details are still under wraps.
Dell Concept Ori
youtube
The Dell Concept Ori also saw the daylight at CES 2020. Its fold mechanism is quite similar to the above one. As such, it can be used as a book, tablet, and table-top format. Dell hasn’t revealed any specs for the time being. But, the screen reportedly measures 13-inches give or take with QHD+ resolution.
Intel Horseshoe Bend
Source: Techspot
Also debuted at the CES 2020, the Intel’s take on the foldable laptop has a weird code name ie., Horseshoe bend. This one sports a 17.3-inch OLED panel which when bent a little transforms into a 12.5-inch laptop. When folded inward, there’s a small wedge-shaped space between the two panels. Intel has stowed in a keyboard in that gap, which is a clever use of that vacancy.

The software must also be ready to accommodate the hardware imperatives. Realizing the same, Microsoft announced a custom iteration of Windows 10 in October 2019. The company hasn’t worked from the ground up. Rather, they have tweaked and optimized the core Windows technologies in areas like power-saving, app and service compatibility. It will even run Win32 applications in a container. You can expect the OS to feature swipe gestures for sailing through the UI and UX.
Windows 10X will be available for dual-screen and foldable devices starting by Holidays 2020. Look out for devices from major players like ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. Needless to say, both Surface Duo and Surface Neo from Microsoft will be on the cards for the new OS.
Holly Molly! this might very well be the decade when we witness the Dual Display and Foldable tech ripe. So, we leave you with a simple question – how excited are you?

Here a story 6 years ago. I don’t know should I call love or true friends, a man or and angel. Should I begin with introduce myself first or introduce him. Hmm.. Ok let begin with me, biar u all questioning.. hahaha..
Hi my name is Christie Christ Chin. I’m Living in kota kinabalu, a state that full of culture and race. I’m 17 years old now. Living with my mom. I don’t have any brother and sister. I love candy especially lollipop. Here is my first feeling stories about a guy i named him cookies.
(Hmmmm??????? Bluring.. where to start ah???… But I clearly remember all start in a morning..
Christie.. Christieee wake up.. time go to school.. Hmm.. Good Morning mommy..(In yawing) Huhhhh.. Another boring days I need go through.. Ahhh…boring.. then i hold my two hand and i pray.. “Good morning Jesus, today Christie pray again… As Jesus know, Christie feel empty.. Please granted Christie a friend a true friend k.. where Christie can share, can count on just like u Jesus. I love u Jesus..ops..oh-ya.. A friend that not like i meet at school k.. I love u Jesus and mmm Amen”.
Hmm…ok..be strong go through another day..
I prepared my self like usually and my mom sent me to school.
(Like usually in school,, Boring.. Yaww..fast…fast..fast.. I look at my watch.. Ringgg… yes time to go home.. i quickly close my book stuff in my bag and go home.. The end of crazy Friday.. yay..
Moment i walk to the school gate.. like usually their always somebody greeting.. Bye Christie.. by liang moi.. No please.. and i also heard someone said… so egoist.. scum..
I dint reply any of them i just want to quickly go home.. after the school gate.. i saw mom car.. i ran to it and enter the car.. “just like a little girl ran to grab a lollipop”.
Christie : Hi mommy.. can mommy let me play lappy today.. only a while.. plss…
Mom : Hmm.. yes..but after u have your lunch and bath.. don forget doing your homework first… only a while..
Yesss. Thanks. I love you mommy..

Haizzz.. ni zai na ni ah wo de blue monster.. I switched off and having a breakfast with papa and mommy.. My papa play role in praying.. But my heart prayed.. ‘’Good Morning cookies monster.. Hope u enjoyed ur breakfast today and have a nice day”.
Papa.. can i join our school intellect camping on next weeken? Pls daddy.. i really wanna join them.. After a few dicussion with mommy.. My parent let me join the camping..
