Luz and Hunter are my favorite characters from toh but I would never under any circumstances ship them. Like. Hunter licks Luz's hand and then she smears it on his face. She yeets his fancy emperor's coven staff over the side of a hot air balloon. He antagonizes her gf into giving him one of the most powerful substances in the realm. Her mom basically adopts him. They're. Siblings. Idk what other evidence ya'll need.

Personally I find the chemistry between Luz and Hunter obvious and if the show was created even 5-10 years ago no one would have much of a problem with Hunter and Luz shippers. It would’ve been what everyone expected to be endgame. Sure, I love lumity, it’s a cute sapphic high school romance. But narratively, there’s a case to be made for lunter while lumity is more just to be cute. Plus Luz is bisexual so any argument about erasing her sexuality doesn’t make sense. Plus it’s not like fandom is on the same level as the actual tv show like if a group of people want to imagine Luz and Hunter dating that does absolutely nothing to take away from the canon sapphic romance! I don’t have anywhere I feel like I can express this without getting literalky DOGPILED by Twitter teenagers who think the end all be all of queer liberation is making cartoon teenagers kiss.
I somewhat heard that type of rant that I've been interested to discuss before.. But I think it's better if Hunter has been introduced first than Amity tho. To make Hunter as a Male Lead. Yet the romance plot of TOH didn't go on that route. Because (ugh, another straight couple in Disney)
Unfortunately, everything has been already set by arranging Willow and Hunter as a pair instead Hunter is compatible to be paired with Luz because, Luz is with Amity now and both had feelings for each other before Hunter came. So I can understand what they're trying to defend the sapphic canon ship because THEY NEED LGBTQA+ REP, so if there is a straight couple in their favorite cartoon/show, the fans will gone RIOT and they will forced to make the straight couple to stay friends or platonic then shove it to everyone's throats. But their annoyance of not wanting Luz (who is a CANON BI) had a chance to NON CANONICALLY be together with a GUY who has 10x potential chemistry than Lumity. (I also love Lumity too from enemies to friends to lovers). The thing is, Willow shows to become the heroine for Hunter yet still GoldenLuz/Lunter scenes has more sparks even tho they're jumping to make a side couple (Huntlow) alongside with Raine and Eda (Raeda).
And the biggest and shittiest agenda they've got in the TOH fandom is to make these two characters (Luz and Hunter) as sibling-coded into their dynamic which is a HEADCANON. But FOR THEM IT'S A FACT because of the quarrel, all that banter and starting to helping and protecting each other away from danger/harm. And yet they theorize that when we look at Lunter, it's like there are both young Philip and Caleb.
So the issue of Lunter is because the TOH fandom can easily took it down or banish the ideas and options about Luz and Hunter to become a non-canon ship especially boy x girl ships in general media where the main protagonist is a BISEXUAL/GAY/LESBIAN or part of the LGBT rep. Some of them are a bit oversensitive by the "non-canon" ships might be ruined their canon gay/sapphic ship. Like only you can ship this MC with their same gender and NOTHING ELSE. I tried to keep away from the shipping discourse because the majority wants Lunter to see as siblings, and then they will despise somebody in every fiber of their being who ships Luz and Hunter where they are both BI for each other. Like who are they to have a right to demand a person who just wanna ship without their validation? Toxic TOH fans ain't had a right to accuse somebody because they LIKE a ship that they DON'T like. Yet also the Lunter shippers didn't wish for Lunter to be canon as well. Because they can ship them without a problem canon or not-canon as long as they don't attack nor cause such any harm to others. Yet these antis has so many claims to prove that their ship Lunter is wrong and there's nothing to support of shipping them romantically. So they will non-stop accusing Lunter shippers based on their ship which i migt turned out to become 'problematic' by many.
Luz and her bisexuality is the purest rep where she likes and attracted to guys and girls. Yet when they keep telling to such people that it will erase her sapphic love between her and Amity if Luz is going to be with Hunter in the long run.. That doesn't mean Luz isn't Bisexual anymore. How can these people pushing the hatred towards Lunter where they haven't heard the word "multishipping?" So every shipper has options which good ships to be shipped with this character. They never acknowledged poly ships too so, it's too late to speak up to toxic anti Lunters out there. Stubborn as hell lol. As a Bisexual, people must understand that they cannot ruined their Bisexuality by liking or dating a guy!

asfghdjhdfhfjksdfh a while back a Lunter shipper called me bi-phobic because she claimed that Luz drew art of herself kissing Hunter and i replied "what are you talking about" and she said, " eww you're a biphobe" and immediately blocked me. I think I found what they were talking about.
Tumblr media
this was something Luz drew in the book she wrote, and I just- bro. How can you say this is Lunter art wtf. the person on the left KINDA looks like Luz but the person on the right?? that looks nothing like Hunter, yeah he has a crown like beta Hunter but that is where the similarities end. His hair is different his face is different so are his ears this doesn't look like him what so ever (also wtf is going on with his side profile) TBH i can't even tell if that's a boy or not, and to top it all off this episode aired before Luz even met Hunter let alone saw his face.

Lunter/Goldenlight will never, and I repeat, never stop being funny to me, purely because of the fact that people just can't accept their already established familial relationship
Their parallels to Caleb and Philip are so obvious it's genuinely shocking to me how people just look at them and go "nah bro those are lovers" LIKE. please I'm begging you.

I saw a L/unter fan actually recognize the huge amount of paralells that there are between Luz and Hunter and Philip and Caleb ...only to go ahead and deny/ say that they didn’t believe that the Wittebros were siblings.
Like what? how do you get this close to the point and still miss it entirely?

I keep thinking I’ve seen the biggest level of headache inducing within the fandom concerning a very particular shipping pair. And then I see something else that is somehow even more headache inducing
And the irony here is the shippers think we take issue with pairing Luz with a guy.
And sure some of the rest of the fandom does for that reason. I’m not denying that. And y’all do consistently miss why Lumity is important
And y’all aren’t helping when you make the most off the wall takes.
Multi shippers exist and you could probably appeal to them
If you weren’t doing dumbass takes consistently. Y’all consistently make your ship less appealing by rather spectacularly missing the point. And making some honestly bad takes

thoughts on lunter?
Hate it with a passion. The fans of it that make fanart always sexualize Luz, which is disgusting.

hot take, but
as a trans bi dude, it actually IS kind of iffy to ship a girl canonically with a girl with a dude, even though said first girl is canonically bi.
it's even iffy-ier when the creator even says that the bi girl and the dude see each other as siblings.
no, it isn't the same when that same dude is bi and dating a pan girl in canon.
yes, biphobia is real, it still is a thing without your ship.
yes, its still a straight ship, regardless of their orientations
(for example, hiccstrid are seen as bi4bi by a large portion of the fandom, myself included, but they're still a straight ship.)
hate to utter proshit logic, but some of you guys treat these guys like real people, like yeah a bi girl can love a bi guy/straight guy/pan guy/whatever other sexuality that includes women and vice versa, no shit, but it actually IS kind of erasing rep to shit on lumity and praise lunter.
also, literally nobody is crying over the age gap stfu, if it were gus instead of luz THEN it'd be a problem
(anyways if willow was male all of you guys would be convinced luz was trying to 'get in the way' of gay rep)

Luz and Hunter
Lunter shippers are not welcome here btw, this post will be proving the "sibling dynamic" claim, because I saw a post saying they just didn't see their relationship this way.
Wittebros
Starting off, Luz and Hunter are meant to parallel the Wittebane Brothers. Luz is a human on the boiling isles, like Philip, and Hunter is Caleb’s clone. Luz and Philip have some similarities, they’re both humans from Gravesfield who got to the boiling isles by “mistake”, as in, they shouldn’t be there. They both tried everything in their powers to get home and communicated with the isles to learn about Glyph Magic. The similarities pretty much end there, since Luz didn’t try to unalive Hunter or the entirety of the Boiling Isles.
Ironically enough, we know as much about Caleb as much as Hunter knows about himself (almost nothing). Philip says Hunter looked the most like him, and it’s true, the resemblance is creepy af, but I also like to think it also applies to his personality, almost all the other Grimwalkers were. Once again, basing myself off of things Philip said because he is our only 99.9% reliable source to who was Caleb. He says “It hurts every time he choses to betray me,”. He’s referring to the time Caleb chose to give up witch-hunting as he fell in love with a witch and all the times his clone learnt the truth about him. Caleb’s morals and affection for witches and palismen continue to live on through his clones.
How they see each other
In thanks to them, Luz tells Hunter she considers him to be a part of her family now, and Hunter starts crying since he doesn’t have a biological family and this is coming from who is technically his first ever non palisman friend. We see in the montage part of thanks to them, Hunter looking at the drawings the others did of their family, and obviously he feels bad for them, but it’s clear he wishes there was someone in the boiling isles worrying about him and wondering where he is. They’re family, and written as such.
I’m one of the followers of the person who this post is dedicated to, and if they do find it, I hope they learned something and don’t get offended about what I’ll say next (they seem like a very open minded and calm person so): “This is just how I see/interpret the dynamic” and this isn’t how the crew/cast interpreted/wrote the dynamic. Luz and Hunter see each other as family (aka, siblings), and so does the cast, because we know damn well Hunter’s VA didn’t change his name on Twitter to “Hunter Noceda” for the ship. I know me of all people should be open minded and mature about ships that go against canon, but never when it erases representation. I love how Lunter shippers watched the owl house, saw Lumity, the only healthy woman loving woman ship that Disney has, heck, the only bisexual woman in a cartoon that hasn’t dated men, and they went “let’s ship that one with a man, it’s totally okay because she’s bi! :)”. And when I say love, I mean other words I can’t say because I’m not supposed to get angry. I’ll just leave Lunter shippers who think like this with this message: Go take that fake inclusivity of yours and go show it off to someone who cares because I certainly don’t. If we wanted yet another boring m/f ship with a bisexual woman in it, we would’ve watched the first seasons of the legend of Korra.

What is it about Lunter that just boils shippers brains into soup? Is it just the standard "we can only relate to the white guy, all his problems and arcs are most important" fandom rot paired with the fact that at no point a ship was even believable, while still developing a positive relationship? Is it they have to rip apart so much of the show so thoroughly that they simply can't regard canon?
