Legends of Tomorrow 5x12
I actually watched the episode on the day it aired, but I didn’t feel like writing about it because it was a perfect example of what frustrates me about the Arrowverse: supposedly “feel-good” moments so full of false sentimentalism they end up feeling completely manufactured. All the “sisterhood” moments felt so, so empty, especially after the previous episode wtf (and I’m sorry, but the events of this one aren’t convincing enough to make me buy it, not even close).
There were two highlights in the episode, for me: one was, as usual, the Starblazer crumbs LMAO. “You can’t resist my effortless charms”; “They bite.” / “So do I” *blatantly checks John out*. ZARI, HONEY. She’s so thristy lmao. This show fails me again and again when it comes to canon ships, so at this moment I just hope that, if they decide to go for any the boring roads-already-taken, they at least get to hook up. Both characters are clearly into it xD
The other one was Astra, who’s become one of my favourite characters in record time. Woe is me. It’s seriously a pity, because the most likely outcome of her storyline will likely erase all that I love about her (”gaining the masses with the illusion of fun might be the perfect way to ply them to do your bidding”, “I scoped out his place when I was going to burn it down” ILU). And this plot now with her and her old mentor probably won’t end how I’d like it to and instead will make her more vulnerable to the Legends :/.
I did like the part where she absolutely dragged Charlie lmfao (lowkey rareship, ofc), or when she told her she left hell because she was already “done working for a Fate”. I liked the little moments with her and Sara, too (with Sara very casually mention Astra was about to murder Charlie and told Zari to hide her fork, or when she said they should ease Astra back on Earth and not throw her into the deep end of scatological slang LOL), and I wish they got to interact even more, but I doubt it.
The fact that Zari was the only one that didn’t drink the Temporary Immortality Juice feels so, so contrived (seriously, why would ANYONE not drink that?? It’s ONE DAY you’re not even commiting to anything!), especially in light of the zombie attacks next week. I’m not complaining because it’ll make Protect Zari At All Costs one of the main goals, and that’s not a bad storyline for a fave to have xD. They could choose to add drama, kill her, and then bring her back with the Loom too, though I prefer if they didn’t. What I’m sure of is that they’ll mine the plot for its romantic possibilities... and it’ll be telling which ship they prioritize. Fingers crossed.
Another reason why this episode failed to entertain me is that USA college life on tv always feels incredibly cliche and lame, okay xDD. And look, IDK if I was supposed to be impressed by the beer pong game, but the first and only time I played it we didn’t have balls or rackets and we did it by bouncing cent coins on the table and hoping they’d get into the glasses (which were made of actual glass because we didn’t have anything else and we liked living on the edge, I guess). So balls seem too easy for me xDD (I won, btw, motivated by my hate of cheap beer LOL).
C’mon show, just admit Nate is into guys (though if you do, I ask that you don’t pair him with Gary. Nobody deserves being paired with Gary. Just stop doing that). His crush on Dionysius was cute (even if given the circumstances I wouldn’t have wanted the writers to go There, as IC as it’d been for a Greek god to violate consent, lbr).
