Anime 2023 review
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this year has been peak cinema guys!! Here are some of the anime I watched and loved in 2023:
Oshi No ko
Tengoku Daimakyo
Demon Slayer: swordsmiths village arc
Jujutsu kaisen: Shibuya district arc
Zom 100: Bucket list of the dead
My Happy marriage (+manga)
My love story with Yamada kun at lvl 999 (+ manga)
Akatsuki no Yona (+read the entire manga till date!! And still following)
Spy X family: Cruise ship arc (following manga too)
The Apothecary Diaries (manga + light novel also)
Usually when I like the story, and my curiosity gets the best of me (like MaoMao) I check out the manga as well, and when I like it, I start following it as well!
In 2023, Oshi No Ko, Tengoku Daimakyo and the Apothecary Diaries was an absolute gem ❤️🔥 These anime left such a huge impact on me!! I was left hooked for months and I cannot wait for Oshi No Ko season 2!!
Tumblr media
Demon Slayer and JJK were alright. Peak cinema, yada yada what everyone says. The animation was no doubt phenomenal, however the story was a bit lacking in these two (but that's just my personal opinion)
Zom 100 was surprisingly good. Its irregular schedule was its downfall, as it reduced all the excitement we had and then it went on an unexpected hiatus...but anyways, it came back on Dec 25 and it was nice. I'll give it a go if they publish season 2.
Tumblr media
PEAK SHOUJO
With My Happy Marriage, Yamada kun at lvl 999, and the Apothecary Diaries, this year was carried by Shoujo!! And I haven't watched it yet but "Frieren" I have heard was also an absolute banger!!
Tumblr media
Plus there was My Hero Academia and its final war arc TogaChako, Spy X family with Yor and the Cruise ship arc, I felt like the female representation was pretty good this year.
Like hands down these beautiful ladies!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ochako, Yor, Yona, MaoMao, Akane (loving Yamada), Ai Hoshino, Ruby, YOU MADE MY YEAR!!!
Thank you!!!
Fairytail 100 Year Quest was a bit disappointing after its great build up till the Selene arc, let's hope it gets better.
I haven't been able to post in a while cause my MCA exams are going on, but after those are over (on Jan 5) damn sure I'm gonna be posting tons of analysis, predictions and whatnot posts on my blog!!
Till then, love ya guys!! ❤️
~See yaa
Also, thank you for reading my posts in 2023!! Make sure you check them out on 2024 too!! Bye🤗🤗

parting thoughts on amatsuki (anime)
so first of all bonten is such peak character design we need to go back to this
Tumblr media
yaoi hands shoujo legs makes a man go [whistle noise]
secondly WHO is that motorcycle guy who is somehow not toki’s dad
long and short of it is the anime leaves me curious enough to add the manga to my planning list but probably not curious enough to read it anytime soon
this was an absolute delight to watch, and even though it came out in 2008 it made me nostalgic for early 00s studio deen nonsense (which sounds like a dig but i mean that affectionately)
it’s not the most unique thing but it reminds me that i like this flavor of shoujo fantasy, specifically portal fantasy, way way way more than the generic ecchi isekai that proliferate today
actually not even just shoujo, i was thinking of fushigi yuugi specifically but on the shounen side of things yyh and even bleach to a certain extent fall under that “we go to another world but in like a cool way” umbrella so basically
when and why did this good shit get replaced by such mediocre isekai!
(obligatory “i’m an isekai hater but everyone should watch fabiniku” disclaimer)
anyway amatsuki boasts an overall likeable cast of characters, toki can be a bit insufferable at times in the way a lot of protags can be but overall i found him to be idealistic yet still endearing
shinonome has a banging character design too and so does kuchiha except i’m SORRY she has to lose some points for the hair scarf thing i CANNOT stop thinking about how scratchy that would be
(that said she IS adorable and definitely best girl material, also the ot3 vibes between her and shinonome and toki were off the charts)
also one more gratuitous bonten gif bc PEAK
Tumblr media
ofc yeah i’m biased bc of a certain voice actor factor (suwabe) but honestly when did the morally ambiguous pseudo-mentor types stop looking like this and start looking like boring ass gojo instead (sorry to the gojo girlies your man has nice eyes but otherwise looks as interesting as a communion wafer)
but in all fairness i shouldn’t be comparing shoujo aesthetics to shounen ones so anyway moving on
the human vs ayakashi conflict stuff can be found anywhere but i think amatsuki does a pretty good job of executing that classic trope, though the vr stuff (at least in the anime) doesn’t really seem to play a role beyond providing the portal to the other world which eh is fine and all but might have been cool to see it be more relevant
all in all i feel like amatsuki would be a nice hidden(?) gem for anyone who enjoys older series (not even sure if it’s a hidden gem or if i just never heard anything about it personally) but would probably be a miss for anyone who isn’t into that
which is to say it was certainly a hit for me

I'm sorry, but Arsenal went from 0:2 to 3:2, first half was embarrassing but then they went desperate mode and they're still first SO I'M GOOD. Vini was clowning that's true, but Gavi??? Crazy guy 🔫 anyways, I'm waiting for CL, idc about this Spanish bullshit 💀 Liverpool said WE'RE REDEEMING OURSELVES FUCK YOU ALL 😭 this is hilarious tbh... sad, but wtf. PSG vs Bayern soon, how we feeling? 💀
I hope not to see anything Gr**nw**d related except him going to jail. I hate how easy some people are to persuade... shit like this is nuanced.
That obsessed weirdo isn't my friend, come oooon, I just met her in a queue then at a birthday cafe and I thought she was alright.
The fact SM doesn't even blur miss Judy's face and she's trying to convince us it's because she's with them?! They even blur staff members, be serious bitch. But why isn't SM doing anything?
I would say kpop is at its peak when it comes to popularity, the only reason some things are going down is the decrease in music quality and the oversaturation, some companies are doing TOO MUCH. Hybe thinks they're the cool new and hip co-worker who got hired and wanna change everything and "help" the old workers even though no one asked? SM has a lot of issues and crimes that they committed, but Hybe IS NOT going to help
Yeah Europe loves knives 🙃 it's worrying. Paris is bad, Atz needs to get away asap, I can't believe the French menace got 2 stops. Lmao I guess the IG video is right, Berlin is the alt city, so I can definitely see people like that
Not me getting Britishised 😭 when I went to the UK for the first time when I was around 12 I didn't know English, I could understand it, but speaking was a no no. My friend's cousin from Ireland hang out with us and I was so shocked, I couldn't understand her at all, but my friend - a native English speaker said "tbh I understand every 5 words she says". Now I'm used to the accents, I actually struggle with some American ones. Father Baek ily <3 it's good idc. British cousine is mostly gross and the names of the dishes? I still can't believe spotted dick exists. But some stuff are good, especially the vegan versions
Nope, Cornish people are fun and chill. YOU GUYS? As if people didn't comment on my messy accent in the past 💀 I wanted to sound more British, but guess I was trying too hard and some people were mad I was attempting to sound like someone I wasn't. Fun times </3
Really? No Woo fics? I wonder why, tbh I have no clue, I rarely read fics and when I do it's only Hwa. Hmmm, I don't fond hockey attractive, so I'd go for racer or fencer actually.
At this point Shinestars need to set up our fashion brand and use Hwa as our model and ambassador. Don't have mortgage, because I can't afford a house, heh 🥰 but SK is nice, I went to the trampoline/climbing park Atz filmed episode 7 of Salary Lupin at!
What?! I did not order Seonghwa's winter MD who said I did?!?!? Please no robbery!
The Korean spelling of Xikers is Ssaikeouseu, so in English it should be Saikers....... choices
My friend watched Horimiya thanks to me and she was convinced it was an older show, we definitely need more shoujo anime 🥰 Btw I watched this one show and this guy, he's a commander and professional simp, I love him https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uPwVxfYEwWg (for some reason I can't link anymore, sorry about that :/)
Alchemy of Souls didn't have to go that hard... I bet Hwa is tearing up watching

PSG vs Bayern soon, how we feeling? 💀
YOU WON BUT FOR WHAT, GOT RM AND MANU CRYING 😭😭😭😭 sEEE NOW, vini does this on a daily but if gavi does it it’s a big tHing 🔫 but u know what i respect, he plays like veratti who’s available for like 10 games a year bc of his red cards jvdkwhckc u can bet gavi won’t do that the next leg bc pedri will calm him down <3 LMFAOOOO SUDDENLY NO INTEREST IN LA LIGA???? 😭😭😭 LIVERPOOL ABSOLUTELY ANNIHILATED MANU IM SO SURPRISED WITH THE EASE THEY DID IT ITS SO FUNNY RBEJFH psg v bayern, u know i have no hope bc 1. neymar’s out for surgery, 2. they still suck at defence 3. somewhat good thing is that messi & mbappe are actually DOING SOMETHING,,, so iM PREDICTING it’s either a 1-0 like last time, a draw or bayern going crazy or just disgrace but tbh it’s psg so can’t expect anything
maybe rm redemption arc in summer? theyre trying to get mbappe now 😬
I hope not to see anything Grnwd related except him going to jail. I hate how easy some people are to persuade… shit like this is nuanced. /// That obsessed weirdo isn't my friend, come oooon, I just met her in a queue then at a birthday cafe and I thought she was alright.
no seriously it’s the way the fans on instagram are still rotting for him bc he’s in his ‘prime’ and will eventually ‘become bigger’ yeah, a bigger idiot,,, he might as well retire or go china,,, LMFAOOO 😭😭😭 she must’ve been really nice for u to not notice her vibes 😭😭
The fact SM doesn't even blur miss Judy's face and she's trying to convince us it's because she's with them?! They even blur staff members, be serious bitch. But why isn't SM doing anything?
NO LITERALLY LIKE WHAT DOES SHE GOT ON THEM BC THEY USUALLY BLUR EVERY ONGOER IN VLOGS,,, ppl are going a little 📈📉 over some theories regarding her,,, nct’s team knows judy! someone reached out to them and apparently they know about her, hopefully the hefty lawsuit comes to her and her friends bc damn
SM has a lot of issues and crimes that they committed, but Hybe IS NOT going to help
true! but the popularity is like, this one person said thiS perfectly but i can’t find it but it was something along the lines of people assuming kpop is worldwide just because ppl know of them on twt, twt ≠ worldwide fame! DEFINITELY THE MUSIC QUALITY also probably the way they’re marketing idols, there’s like no fun, even at award shows, like not even a smile atp 😭😭 i def think companies caught onto the lore thing and now everyone and their mother has a lore to it, which can make things complicated + the way not many are experimenting with diff genres which sm does! but recently it’s been a 📉📈📉 hybe’s saviour complex is mad,,, the way their stans are like no one wants sm BUT HYBS GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND FOR IT SO WHY DONT THEY LEAVE THEM BE 😭😭😭 why are they funnelling money for SM 😭😭??  atp kakao is good bc at least they’re not trying to put a hand in the management or direction bc hybe def’s getting mhj in it and it’s 🔫🔫
Yeah Europe loves knives 🙃 it's worrying. Paris is bad, Atz needs to get away asap, I can't believe the French menace got 2 stops. svsss extraordinary you!AU
shoujo main lead Luo Binghe, the poor kid at Cang Qiong on a scholarship that only barely takes care of his ailing mother’s hospital fees, relentlessly bullied yet relentlessly optimistic
shoujo love interest Shen Qingqiu got looks got smarts got money, top of the school hierarchy, most prominent member of the school’s peak tier trio of heartbreakers, nicknamed, what, the Lords? the Immortals?
secondary love interest Yue Qingyuan also got looks got smarts got money, is the son of the school’s president, famously kind and super darling and popular. Mournfully plays the erhu in LBH presence a lot while SQQ steals LBH’s attention from him
B-plot male lead Liu Qingge, the grumpy pants of the peak lords but also gao fu shuai, son of corporate scion
B-plot love interest Shen Yuan, LQG’s fiancé who’s been pursuing him for ten years, but LQG hates his guts. Has a chronic heart condition that causes many convenient plot lines
One day Shen Yuan begins to grow increasingly aware of the weird page-flipping noises he hears, the gaps in his memory, the way he does things he doesn’t actually want to do, like weep in the middle of a courtyard after LQG snaps at him to stop following him around
Genre-savvy SY sees LBH being bullied, sees the Peak Lords, sees the way everybody immediately forgets any and all rude or “uncharacteristic” thing he says, and makes the educated deduction that he was in a shoujo manga. He’s bound by weird rules here, whether or not he wants to—he’ll always chase after LQG no matter how horrible the things LQG says to him are, he’ll always appear in tropey scenes to help forward the romantic plot line between SQQ and LBH
like when LBH gets locked in that bathroom stall! where did those random wet wipes in SY’s hand come from?? he helps LBH out, and keeps up this constant sighing litany of “oh you poor thing, suffering this shit writing, how many times will they shove you into a locker how many times will they beat you up, how many times will SQQ give you a random debt and demand you be his servant this is such BAD WRITING”
but LBH of course doesn’t remember any of it
as SY develops this habit of commentating on all the scenarios’ being shit, one day he suddenly enters a scene with the super busy school administrator Shang Qinghua, who hears him, and suddenly is all “!!!!!!!!!” and drags him aside
SQH is all “bro, oh my god you’re conscious thank god” and SY is like “??? who are you?” and SQH is all “You don’t remember???”
“What are you talking about?”
“Bro, we’re not from here. This isn’t our world. But thank god you’re awake, seriously, I’ve been so scared this whole time watching you all run around with your bullshit romance plots seriously it’s like they didn’t try at all and that’s coming from me hahaha... Well anyways, we have to wake everybody else up, okay? If you can be woken up... Maybe they all can too.”
“...Who are ‘they?’”
For personality reasons, they decide to try YQY first. SY points out that he’d been talking shit to their faces this whole time, but it’s never worked, they’ve never remembered past the next required plot scene. But they investigate anyways—or well, SY investigates, since he’s the one actually popping in and out of the scenes, while SQH is the most background extra to exist and still have a name in this manga.
SY tries a handful of things, but they never seem to work. YQY is always still staring longingly at SQQ and LBH from afar.
One day, when he’s near giving up, SY asks YQY, “what do you like so much about him anyways?”
“...I don’t know.” Classic shit writing for side characters, Yue-dage!! I’m sorry you got so shafted!! “I just... I just really feel like I’ve always loved him, and have never known how to stop.”
“Man, sorry to hear that, unrequited love must really burn.”
“Well you’d know best, wouldn’t you Shen Yuan? Heheh. I appreciate your commiseration.” Here, YQY’s expression grows frustrated. “I just... I just wish he liked him back, is all. He not liking me back is one thing, but to watch him suffer too? Why can’t he just give him a straight-forward answer already, you know?”
SY, blinking, “I... Sorry, you lost me. You wish who liked who back?”
“Luo B—”
“Shen-xuezhang!” LBH comes bounding over, ditching SQQ mid-convo. “Yue-xuezhang.”
Ah, darling main character, you can’t just leave your love interest behind like that!! This is why Yue Qingyuan keeps hoping you like him back!
“Um, I’ve actually been having a little trouble with the new math material lately, and I think a tutor would really help...”
“...Ah, sorry,” YQY says, attention completely on SQQ glaring at him in the back. SY of course thinks this is about their love triangle with LBH. “I’m no good at math.”
“That’s fine,” LBH dismisses way too quickly. “What about Shen-xuezhang? Please?”
“I don’t mind,” SY says, frowning. “But I doubt the plot will let me. Isn’t your tutor supposed to be Yue Qingyuan, any way you look at it?”
FLIP
SY is LBH’s tutor. SY reluctantly gives the author a little kudos for going out of the box with this one, but he assumes, of course, that he’s meant to be forwarding the love triangle. LBH asks if SY is going to the annual school ball with LQG, and SY goes “aha,  I’m supposed to invite him, doll him up, and bring him to the ball to shock SQQ and YQY’s poor hearts mhm.”
LQG also shows up. Cue scene. SY asks LQG if they’re going together and LQG yells at him and refuses to go and, heroic heroine Bingmei says he’ll go with the quietly crying SY. Typical.
They go the ball. YQY is there first, and SY gets ready for YQY to get the “oh my god he’s beautiful” close-up glowing shot when he sees LBH, but to SY’s surprise it doesn’t come. Instead, it’s when SQQ shows up that there’s some sparkles, and what’s this, a delayed stage effect? What kind of poor scene management!! SY wants his money back!! But at least SQQ gets the glowy close up when he sees LBH.
But before SY can inquire further, he’s flipped into another scene with an angry LQG, snapping at him about using his family’s corporate power to pressure LQG’s family into making LQG keep SY company etc. etc. SY is helplessly sniffling while on the inside he’s like god let me die this is so contrived end the scene already.
The scene finally ends, and he completely snaps out of the weepy setting. He slaps LQG on the arm mid-sentence and is like “shut up for a second, let me ask you a question about YQY—has he been acting strangely recently?”
LQG is a bit startled at first, but does answer. “Not particularly, why?”
“He hasn’t been... asking questions? Talking about gaps in his memory? Hearing strange sounds?”
“Why are you asking??”
“Sigh, grumpy pants Liu-juju of course you’re no help. But that’s not your fault.  It’s not like I’m not taking any of your shouting to heart, though it still sucks a surprising amount to be shit on all the time about a health condition I can’t even help, I’ll be honest. But anyways, I’m off.”
“...Sorry.”
“Hm?”
“I don’t mean to shout about your heart condition,” LQG grits out. “I said I’m sorry.”
“Oh. Wow.” Come to think about it, this is SY’s first time talking to LQG outside of a scene. “Huh, I guess you’re actually not a bad guy, without bad writing? They really did you dirty. Don’t worry about it man.”

from tsukuba’s peak (falling waters have become)  characters: tsukuba haruomi, mashima taichi/ayase chihaya, tsukuba akihiro summary: Haruomi knows Ayase-sensei’s no damsel in distress. That doesn’t mean he’ll stand by while a Bad Guy goes after her, though. notes: takes place when the 2nd of the tsukuba triplets (haruomi) is in his first year of high school and chihaya’s just been a teacher in mizusawa.
Haruomi might have been giving the wrong impression with his slit eyes for as long as he can remember, but those who know him know better. He’s a pretty perceptive guy.
It’s yet another quality that sets him apart from his younger and older brothers, who, at an earlier point in time, looked so identical with him that people mistake them for triplets. Now the only commonality they share with one another is their undying admiration for Akihiro-niisan. In a span of five years, Fuyumasa-niisan found soccer more of his league than karuta (which almost got him disowned by Akihiro-niisan, who then was the president of Mizusawa Karuta Club) while Natsufusa-kun’s attention was gradually stolen by the world of video gaming.
As for Haruomi, he stuck with karuta like their eldest brother, reaching Class A in his last year of middle school and studying so seriously for once with the hopes of entering the high school of his dreams.
Which isn’t Hokuo, he’d tell the recruiters sporting the well-known red shirt of Tokyo’s current high school karuta powerhouse when they scouted him last tournament. I’m going to Mizusawa High.
“But Mizusawa’s golden days are long over,” Haruomi remembered one of the recruiters snickering. To which he had replied defensively, “That’s going to change, though. Because she’s coming back.”
And Ayase-san has indeed returned, finishing her college degree and immediately applying for a teaching position at Mizusawa High School. She’s the defender of the Queen title for two consecutive years now, and is currently on her way towards─
“ ─making Mizusawa into a karuta powerhouse.” He recalls the brimming confidence in her voice on the first day of club meeting, finally understanding what Akihiro-niisan means when he tells him when she’s on your side, Ayase-senpai’s karuta gives your karuta a certain level of strength.  Ayase-san─Ayase-sensei to him, now─certainly had been over the moon with his club membership. After all, Haruomi’s one of the Shiranami society members who grew in leaps and bounds before her own eyes.
Everything’s going well that when trouble finally entered the picture, Haruomi’s able to spot it in a blink of an eye. Or, to be more precise, spot him.
Likening the situation to one of the shoujo mangas Sumire-neechan rants about during break time back at Shiranami society, Yamazaki-sensei’s definitely the Bad Guy who goes after the Female MC with the sole purpose of threatening her relationship with the Male MC. (He shakes his head at the thought of his vocabulary being this much influenced by Sumire-neechan.)
Not that there’s an ounce of doubt when it comes to Ayase-sensei’s relationship with Mashima-san. They’d been going steady ever since their last year in high school, and Haruomi himself won’t be surprised if one of these days they’d suddenly announce their engagement. But still, this development is concerning. Call it a guy’s intuition, but Yamazaki-sensei looks like he’s after more than just being a karuta club ‘vice adviser’.
As if affirming his thoughts, Yamazaki-sensei asks, “Ayase-san, would you like to go out for dinner after practice? I’ve been waiting for that a few weeks now. Surely you’re free this time.” Glaring eyes instantly latch onto Bad Guy, ever protective of their undeniably beautiful─and undeniably dense ─karuta club adviser. As usual Ayase-sensei takes his question in stride. Innocently, she replies, “Ah─but I still can’t, Yamazaki-san. I’ve already promised to eat dinner with someone tonight.”
Yamazaki-sensei sniggers; Haruomi detects a hint of annoyance in his teacher’s voice. “Is this your ‘boyfriend’ again?”
He definitely wants to wipe that expression off Bad Guy’s face. It’s a telltale sign he’s about to say something obnoxious.
“How come we’ve never seen him around? Ayase-san, you know it’s not a good example for your students if you’re lying about dating someone when, in fact, you’re not.”
Haruomi had enough.
“Ayase-sensei’s not a liar! Mashima-san’s real, Sensei. In fact, he’s a better karuta player than you could ever be.”
“What did you just─” In a flash of anger, Yamazaki-sensei lunges at him from his seat on the tatami. Haruomi already has his fist clenched, prepared in case it needs to take a swing at his teacher’s face, but Ayase-senpai’s barreled into the space between them just in time. “Please don’t fight!”
Taking advantage of their momentary surprise, she addresses Bad Guy apologetically. “I’m so sorry, Yamazaki-san. We can get dinner next week─it’s just that tonight’s really one of the few times Taichi’s free.” Turning towards Haruomi, she softly reprimands. “Thank you for your concern, Haruomi-kun. But you should always remember to show respect for your teachers. It’s wrong to yell at Yamazaki-sensei, ne, Haruomi-kun?”
Properly chastised, both boys retreat their offensive stance. Pleased at handling the situation before it escalates (again), she claps her hands together, gathering the attention of the members previously watching the showdown. “All right minna! Time to go home!”
They soon disperse, his teammates on their way home and Ayase-sensei to her date. Meanwhile, Haruomi finds himself staring at the door of the teacher’s lounge, where Yamazaki-sensei is preparing his things before heading out of the school. As much as it annoys Haruomi, he’s still a man of principle; and as such, owes even Bad Guy an apology.
He’s already opened the door when his ears pick up on Bad Guy’s Obnoxious Voice again.
“You’ll see her, don’t worry. I’m not lying! She’s really Ayase Chitose’s sister! Yeah, she’s hot, too, all right. Didn’t you get the picture I sent you? Anyway, see you next week─yeah, she’s already promised to come. Okay, okay...Bye.”
What is it he’s about to do again?
Haruomi walks away from the room, his hand reaching on the inside of his bag. He opens his phone and dials a number.
“Onii-san, could you give me Mashima-san’s contact address?”
***
It looks like a normal practice meeting, with everyone expecting to go through the same routine. Except for Haruomi, who’s certain that things will be changing as soon as it’s over.
As expected, Ayase-sensei, with her ultrasonic hearing, notices him first.
Her head springs up from the match against Haruomi, eyes trained towards the sliding doors. Confusion mars her features, as if the sound she hears doesn’t correspond with her surroundings. Guilt pricks Haruomi for a second.
After all, asking Mashima-san to make a surprise visit to their club is also asking him to skip what obviously are very important classes. But this is important, too! His conscience immediately reasons out.
Mashima-san appears at the spot Ayase-sensei is looking at, and without missing a beat he hears his teacher gape unceremoniously. “Taichi! What are you doing here?!”
The abrupt mention of their sensei’s boyfriend’s name effectively wrenched everybody’s concentration away from the game. A yomifuda is read but everyone’s attention is on the very surprising, very handsome visitor at the entrance.
“Eeeeh?! ”
“Sensei’s kareshi?! That’s sensei’s boyfriend?!”
“Ikemen! ”
“Masaka…”
His teammates’ expressions are priceless, sure, but Haruomi is most amused upon finding Bad Guy’s eyes blown wide, skin getting paler by the second.
See, sensei? He’s real, all right.
Apparently, Mashima-san had a lifetime’s worth of encountering greetings like this, merely blinking at them before giving a slight bow. “Hajimemashite. I’m Mashima Taichi, Mizusawa High School alumni and co-founder of this club. Doozo yoroshiku.”
Haruomi then discovers just how much the girls of his karuta club are similar to Sumire-neechan when they crowd over him in a classic montage of high school girls fawning over handsome guys.
“You and Ayase-sensei made this club?! Sugoi!─”
“That’s so romantic! Ano, did you like her since first year─”
“How was Ayase-sensei like before─”
“Ikemen!”
“Calm down, minna,” Ayase-sensei implores. After the girls have listened, she repeats her question, this time with evident concern. “Taichi, why are you here? Did something happen?”
Mashima-san quells her worries with a reassuring smile. “Nothing’s wrong. It’s just,” his golden eyes proceed to sweep the room, locating Haruomi who’s been pushed at the back by his overexcited teammates, “your student there asked for my help.”
The implication behind her boyfriend’s words totally goes over Ayase-sensei’s head, but definitely not Yamazaki-sensei’s. Bad Guy is basically trembling in the corner and nothing has even happened yet.
Ayase-sensei’s face registers a brief moment of surprise, before lightening up. “I see!”
The reaction is equal parts endearing and frustrating, really. How Ayase-sensei manages to keep every bit of that childlike trust even in adulthood, Haroumi would never know. Nevertheless, she definitely has to pick up on some social cues before Mashima-san goes crazy with worry.
Thinking that the past Mizusawa karuta club President’s really only here to help out, Ayase-sensei wastes no time in having him observe how her students play.
And help he did, doling out insights on everyone’s game strategies. In less than an hour, his identity transformed from ‘Ayase-sensei’s gorgeous boyfriend’ to the ‘President who led the team to national championship’. Haruomi himself is knee deep in the practice session that he almost forgets Mashima-san’s true purpose for dropping by.
Almost, because even when a confrontation could be avoided if he just stayed respectful for once, Yamazaki-sensei’s Bad Guy streak doesn’t disappoint.
“It’s nice, really, when one is able to give good advice,” his Obnoxious Voice grates at Haruomi’s ears, “but I think it’s too extreme to call it incredible.” He gives a pointed glance to Rina-chan, who had just called Mashima-san that after a one-on-one consultation on card placements. “What’s incredible is being able to ‘show’ the ‘talk’, if you get what I mean.”
Tension immediately spikes inside the room, Haruomi and his teammates displaying looks of discomfort and annoyance. Teach him a lesson, Mashima-san! They mentally plead.
Mashima-san, an air of uncanny calmness around him, responds lightly. “I do. Say, Yamazaki-san, Chihaya’s been telling me how good a mentor you are yourself. I’d actually like to see how you play your karuta.”
Ego inflated, Bad Guy predictably challenges. “Why not have a match with me, then, Mashima-san?” He glances at the students, “The kids could take notes.”
Mashima-san places a hand on his hair, looking sheepish. “Ah, but my skills are rusty. Haven’t been playing much since entering med school.”
Irked at the girls rendered swooning at the knowledge that Ayase-senpai has a runway-model-level handsome, karuta playing, intelligent boyfriend, Yamazaki-sensei pushes on, “I’m sure you can put up a fight. I’ll go easy on you, if you like.”
Appearing unaffected by the blatant jab at his capabilities, Mashima-san checks his watch, nonchalant, before turning to Ayase-senpai for permission. “What do you say, Chihaya? Do we still have time?”
Ayase-sensei considers the request. She notes how a full match would extend their club meeting for an hour at least. Then, addressing the rest of the club, begins to ask. “Is it okay with you if─”
Not even waiting for the end of her sentence, Haruomi and his teammates answer eagerly, “Hai, Sensei!”
“O-okay then,” Ayase-sensei heads to the door, “I’ll just let Miyauchi-sensei know we’re finishing up late.”
At their teacher’s exit, Haruomi and the members promptly settle down. He hands Mashima-san a deck of karuta cards, whispering a plea at the same time, “Show him his place, Mashima-san. We really can’t put up with him any longer.” His Shiranami society senpai reaches a hand to ruffle his kouhai’s hair playfully, eyes crinkling with reassurance.
While shuffling the cards between him and his opponent Mashima-san suggests, “Ano, Yamazaki-san, don’t you think it’s more exciting if we bet on something? We used to do it a lot back then.”
Yamazaki-sensei, after a brief moment of surprise, agrees. “Hm, let’s see,” his Bad Guy mind tries to conjure a wicked request. “Okay...If I win, you’re not allowed to come here during practice hours. Sorry, Mashima-san, but looking at how the students are distracted and all over the place with today’s visit, it’s best if we eliminate anything that interferes with their concentration.”
Shouts of protests instantly ensue. Mashima-san simply laughs, finding their sensei’s rudeness amusing, apparently. With a certain gleam in his eyes, he replies, “As for me, I have one condition: Whoever wins this match gets the right to be the club’s mentor.”
Meeting his opponent’s shocked expression with an easy smile, he elaborates. “Of course, we can’t have Chihaya’s team settling for anything less than the best, wouldn’t we?”
***
Ayase-sensei comes back thirty minutes later only to find the room in complete uproar. “Sorry, I got held back─”
“ ─It’s already over?! Just like that?!”
“Sensei couldn’t even get one card…”
“Mashima-san’s the real deal.”
“Kyaaa! Ikemen, hontoni ikemen!”
“I WAS HOLDING BACK!” Yamazaki-sensei exclaims, face burning with obvious humiliation. He points an offending finger at Mashima-san, who had been coolly observing Bad Guy’s pathetic breakdown from his side on the tatami. “One more round, Mashima-san! I’ll be playing all-out the next round.”
“That’s fine with me, Yamazaki-san,” he says languidly, “but you’re going to have to place a new bet.”
“If─!” Bad Guy doesn’t miss a beat, “─I win, I get the mentoring rights back.”
“Mentoring rights?” Ayase-sensei inquires at Haruomi. He grins, “Mashima-san’s earned his place as your vice adviser as of the moment, Sensei.”
Ayase-sensei’s confusion doubles when she hears her boyfriend’s end of the bargain. “Then, if I win, I get to borrow your phone, Yamazaki-sensei.”
“His phone?! What are you going to do with Yamasaki-san’s phone, Taichi?” She asks, concerned at how Bad Guy instantly petrifies at Mashima-san’s words. The rest of the room is also stunned at the odd request. But his intention is perfectly clear to Haruomi, and he has to physically restrain himself from blurting it out in the open. Mashima-san’s got this. I have to let him handle this.
Haruomi sees Ayase-sensei’s boyfriend put on a bashful expression, looking much like a boy who’s had to explain why he’s acting sneaky. “You know those pranks where you hijack a person’s gallery and post something silly on their social media? I just wanted to try it out.”
Sufficiently manipulated, Yamazaki-sensei releases a breath he’s been holding. His teammates nodded in understanding as well.
However, Ayase-sensei only squints her eyes, clearly showing how she’s well caught up with Mashima-san’s lie.
It’s then that Mashima-san’s gaze shifts, connecting with Ayase-sensei’s and holding her in place. Haruomi’s familiar with that type of communication─it’s something  that exists between long time friends or lovers. And since both apply to Ayase-sensei and Mashima-san’s case, it doesn’t take a minute before his girlfriend’s demeanor changes, too, having received the wordless message. She doesn’t prod any further.
The second match goes more or less the same, the only difference being Yamazaki-sensei’s resolve slowly crumbling at every card he couldn’t defend, every fault he commits. Gone is Mashima-san’s lighthearted persona, too, and Haruomi wonders whether this is what his senpai looked like when he was actively playing karuta back in the day. An image of Harada-sensei enters his mind right then, comforting Haruomi with the fact that Mashima-senpai’s karuta prime is still yet to come.
Contrasting the mood of the rest of the match’s audience, Ayase-sensei is looking troubled beside him. He even hears his sensei plead silently, “Don’t, Taichi.” Curiosity getting the better of him, he asks,“What’s wrong, Ayase-sensei?”
He gets a worrisome answer. “Taichi...he’s...using nasty karuta. The kind that makes your opponent want to stop playing. He hadn’t played like this since...”
Abandoning her explanation, Ayase-sensei shifts towards questioning him back, brown eyes pleading to understand.
“Haroumi-kun, what is it you’ve asked his help for, exactly?”
***
A conversation at Mashima Taichi’s car, moments after practice had finished and the karuta club members went on their way home.*
“Anywhere we have to stop by before I drop you home?”
“Eto...The pharmacy! And I won’t be going home tonight.”
“Okay...Let’s go over those one-by-one. What do you need at the pharmacy? Are you feeling sick?”
“It’s not for me.”
“For Chitose-san, then? I thought her acid reflux was handled already.”
“Not for her too. It’s for my boyfriend, actually. See, he’s about to get another migraine.”
“Wha─”
“I know you’ve been pulling all-nighters for the past week, Taichi. And if it were me playing your scary karuta a while ago, I’d be dead asleep by now. I might not be the one who’s going to be a doctor between the two of us, but I’ve been with you long enough to realize that even your superhuman brain hurts sometimes.”
“Glad to see how you’ve successfully bribed your way to getting my schedule from Nishinoya. Did you promise him an exclusive Daddy Bear merchandise?”
“That’s the thing. I didn’t have to, because he’s just as worried about your workaholic lifestyle as I am. Honestly, you have to look out for yourself better, Taichi.”
“That’s awfully ironic, coming from you, Chihaya.”
“...”
“Sorry. What I meant was─”
“No! Don’t apologize. You’re right. I haven’t been looking out for myself all that well, either. If I were, then you and Haruomi-kun wouldn’t be so worried, right? Enough for you to break Yamazaki-san's phone 'accidentally'?”
“...”
“In case you’re wondering, I can see why you’re both concerned about Yamazaki-san. He’s always acting...weird. But I thought that’s just because he’s new, and I shouldn’t pass up any opportunities that could help the club. Especially when I’m not yet the strong advisor they needed.”
“Chihaya...You’re already doing great. And I remember Sakurazawa-sensei telling you the same last time, too.”
“...Thanks, Taichi. I’ll try harder to remember that...Anyway, I’m going ahead and answering you next question: I’m not going home because I’ll be staying at your place.”
“But, as you know from your stolen copy of my schedule, I’ll be stuck studying.”
“Yep. Alchemy midterms, right?”
“Chemistry, Chihaya, it’s Chemistry ─You know what? Call it what you want.”
“That’s good, because it really sounds more interesting that way! But going back to your point─it’s my turn to look after you now, after what you just did for me.”
“And how can you help me with my midterms?”
“That’s what the painkillers are for. I’ll be busy nursing your headaches, baka Taichi. Which reminds me─can we stop at the grocery too?”
“Don’t tell me you’re going to burn my kitchen─hey, stop punching me! Cook, alright─Don’t tell me you’re going to cook again.”
“Whether you like it or not, I’m cooking. If I’m going to be called Mashima-sensei by my students in the future like what Haruomi-kun just did, I might as well start preparing to pass Mrs. Pressure’s standards, ne, Taichi?”
“...”
“See? I thought so, too.”

hey requesting a roommate matchup! im a sagitarius, enneagram type 4, slytherin house, and i kin shigaraki tomura from MHA. my favorite food is instant cup ramen :), i havent watched any films yet but least favorite anime is garden of words (its good i just didnt like it im sorry ) and math is my least fav. i can cook, but i dont normally. im a night owl, and im not particully messy but it can get out of hand. i draw all the time, n do stickers, etc. my aesthetic is dark academia ngl
Dear User,
congratulations, we have found you a potential roommate. We have throughly looked through your application and we hope you are happy with your result. Below this post are the details about them.
Yours Sincerely
The Accomodation Team
Tumblr media
Name: Tendou Satori
Birthday: 20th May (Gemini)
MBTI: ESTP
congrats my lovely you have this crackhead as your roommate
i take no responablity for any damage done to your place
only joking x
now seeing as your a sagitarius and he is a gemini you too make the chaotic duo, like nothing can stop you when you combine power
you: you don’t think we will get in trouble for this
tendou: not a chance
cut to semi scolding you
like that is your relationship
also he is a fellow slytherin so you too are always scheming something
ngl sometimes whenever Goshiki comes and visits he is petrified that something bad is going to happen to him
but it is apart of your guys charm, you are the slightly kooky neighbours that everyone secretly loves and hates at the same time
you guys are just badass (and i wish i could be apart of your gang)
now you mentionned that you kin Shigaraki (who is one my faves) so i can imagine that perhaps you may be interested in video games
if that is the case, well you have found your player 2
you too love to spend hours (mostly at night) playing all sorts of video games (including the MHA one as well)
you like to play as Shigaraki while Tendou plays as Toga because I feel he likes her character design (he likes cute girls ok)
sometimes you may order something like a chinese (or if you don’t like chinese your fave cuisine) and just play video games like half seriously
like Tendou will make like these little impressions of the characters and honestly you would be laughing your head off
you guys are too cute awww
now Tendou doesn’t mind that you choose not to cook, like it is canon that he has a very small appetite so he really doesn’t care that you live off ramen cups
he probably does the same
here is an idea tho, you guys try out all the different flavours of instant noodles and ramen cups and rate them
in your house there is a little chart with which brand and flavour has the top score
like the ultimate ramen cup
now by looking up the film Garden of Words it seems you are not a fan perhaps of the shoujo troupe
if that is correct then neither does tendou
you guys sit and binge classic shouen animes like naruto, MHA and Hxh
Tendou does a very good Hisoka impression
now seeing as you hate maths at first tendou tried to tutor you , y’know to be a good roommate
but it didn’t last too long, like you know those maths word problems where it is like Elizabeth has 10 sandwitches etc...
you too would start making fun of the characters in the word problems
elizabeth is such a greedy bitch
anyway i am getting side tracked
tendou is also a night owl actually i don’t think i have seen this kid ever sleep
like most of your fun endeavours take place at night it is when he is at his peak chaotic energy
Tendou thinks it is adorable that you draw your own stickers and definetely has them all stuck around the house and on it’s laptop
you know for advertising purposes
if you make him a sticker based on anime, bonus points if its fanart of him being in that said anime
he will marry you on the spot
definetely brags about your talent (and damn right he should)
Overall you have a cheerful, loud but a little bit of a sardonic roommate
Tumblr media
Other Potential Matches: Suna Rintarou and Akaashi Keiji
hiya! I hope you liked your matchup and thank you for your patience

Misty!
First impression:
I was eight years old so I literally do not remember specifics, haha. I do know that I liked her a lot, though, to the point where I named Red “Misty” in either my Red Version or Blue Version playthrough. (I know that would make things confusing given Misty is a character in the game, but child!me didn’t care as much.)
Impression now:
I love her and I’m so proud of the progress she’s made.
Favorite moment:
HMMMM, it’s hard to say because there are so many. The scene where she jumps into the ocean during a storm and saves Ash’s life during The Power of One comes to mind. The scene where she lets Togetic go because even though she doesn’t want to say goodbye, she knows this is what’s best for Togetic comes to mind. The scene where she tames and bonds with Gyarados despite her trauma comes to mind. The scene where she mega evolves her blue sweetheart in her renovated Gym comes to mind as well. There are so many great Misty moments; that’s what makes it enjoyable to be a fan of her character!
Idea for a story:
Maybe showing just how she trained her sisters to be able to handle the Gym in her absence, or a fic where she becomes the water master of the Kanto Elite Four at some point in the future.
Unpopular opinion:
This is a petty one, but I don’t care, it needs to be said: Misty would not have long hair when she grows up. Honestly, seriously, canonically, she wouldn’t. We see older!Misty in the Johto games, and her hair is still short. We see older!Misty in promotional artworks, and her hair is still short. We see adult!Misty in the unused trailer for Mewtwo Strikes Back and her hair is STILL SHORT. Long hair is a pain in the ass to deal with, especially when wet. Misty spends all her time in the pool. There’s no reason why she’d grow her hair out and have to deal with that mess, especially when every single piece of canonical evidence we have for what Misty looks like when she’s older shows her with short hair.
And also?
I also feels like it completely undermines a major part of Misty’s character arc, which is her overcoming the feeling of being in her sisters’ shadow and truly realizing that she really is sensational the way she is. Fanart of Misty with long, flowing locks makes her look like an orange-haired carbon copy of her sisters. It gives off the impression that Misty can’t be beautiful unless she styles her hair and fashions her wardrobe to look like Daisy, Lily, and Violet. And that’s complete nonsense. Misty used to say that she was the fourth Sensational Sister with such outrage and anger because deep down, she feared and felt that she wasn’t. Her temper dialed down as her confidence in herself grew, and by the time she leaves the main party---and especially once she saves the Cerulean Gym---she’s come to realize that she truly is sensational the way she is, and her sisters (or Daisy at least) begin to realize that as well. Misty doesn’t need long hair to be beautiful, and everything we see of her in canon---including, again, a trailer showing that anime!Misty ALSO has short hair as an adult---promotes the idea that she wouldn’t grow out her hair to match her older sisters. This is the Misty hill I choose to die on.
(inb4 “people can draw what they want!!!!!” --- Yeah, they can, and you’ll notice that I’ve not sent this to a single artist, but rather I’m talking about it on my own blog, untagged in the sitewide tags. People can draw what they want, but it’s been a pet peeve of mine for over a decade now and, just as people can draw what they want, I can say what I want. You’re just going to have to deal with it, friend.)
Favorite relationship:
This is probably going to sound cliché, but her relationship with Ash. I love so many things about this relationship and I’m really glad that it’s the one that I got to grow up with.
To begin with, I love that even though there is mutual romantic attraction between them (in the Japanese version as well, don’t let the haters fool you, they lie on purpose because they figure people won’t check), that’s not the core of their relationship. The attraction they share developed naturally, over time. They started off as traveling companions / friends / and even rivals of a sort first, and as they got to know one another, that attraction started developing. And it showed in subtle ways. It was little things like how they immediately reached for each other and held hands when Brock suggested they do so in a foggy forest, leaving Brock to fend for himself. It was Ash waking up after the shipwreck to see both Misty and Brock passed out on the beach, and panicking as he went to Misty’s side before he was just like “hey Brock.” It was Misty physically assaulting Ritchie in front of an entire stadium of people (and broadcasted on national television) because she thought that he did something to make Ash not turn up for his match. These moments aren’t inherently romantic, but they do show how much the two came to care for one another over time. And as if that wasn’t enough? We have Ash seeing Misty surrounded by shoujo bubbles and sparkles when he sees her in her yukata in “The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”; we have Misty getting huffy and jealous when Ash shows attraction or interest in other girls (“The School of Hard Knocks”; The Power of One); we have Ash being so distracted by Misty being interested in another guy (Danny) that he falls off a mountain and nearly dies, and then later dejectedly asks “what about me?” when Misty rushes to great Danny instead of him. We had evidence that they did have romantic attraction for each other, but those moments were in the background of their relationship. They were best friends first, romantic interests in second.
And the thing is, they were best friends. They competed with each other at times (and Misty was always shown to be on equal footing with Ash; that wasn’t a new development for SM!), but they also supported and helped each other. They’re both snarky and sassy as all hell (especially in the OS, when Ash was at his sassiest), and they snark together, too. They’ve got similarities and differences that complement each other and make them an interesting and dynamic duo to watch. Despite what people think, they only really fought regularly in their early days (and even then, their fights were rarely so serious as to actually hurt each other’s feelings; since they have similar snarky mouths, they didn’t take most of it to heart). Most of their relationship was spent getting along and having friendly bants.
Anyway, Misty’s relationship with Ash helped both of them grow as trainers and people. Misty helped show Ash the ropes since she had more experience than he did, and Ash opened Misty’s eyes up to the different possibilities the world had to offer. Their relationship is one that’s beneficial to both of them, on every level, and I really like that.
Favorite headcanon:
That she becomes the water master of the Kanto Elite Four someday, probably. She achieves her dream at last. ♥

Reed’s Spring 2018 Anime First Impressions
I lived, bitch.
Tumblr media
It’s ya boy; Reed.  I did it, kids.  I am done with my degree.  Got my Iron Ring.  we’re good to party.
Boku no Hero Academia S3   (episodes seen:  3)
Tumblr media
Look, I have nothing new to say about this one.  We all know that as far as I am concerned that Studio Bones can do no wrong.  Fuck off about Soul Eater Not.  So when Studio Bones goes “hey, Reed, have another season of Froppy” I’m just kind of like
Tumblr media
Lupin III:  Part 5   (episodes seen:   3)
Tumblr media
The Italian Adventure had a better OP.  But this season has a adorable redhead, so hey, beggers can’t be choosers.
For those of you unaware of what/who Lupin III is:  He is the world’s greatest thief.  He travels the world with his friends:  Man with Gun, and Samurai.  Together they proceed to commit some of the most nuts heists ever, usually tricking this one Interpol agent in the process.
The gang is back for more heist shenanigans, in France this time.  The tech has also gotten an upgrade.  Lupin has always been running on 80s Bond tech, but he’s gone more modern this season:  VR, smartphones, the man has discovered social media, even a Tesla manages to make its way into the show.  Don’t worry, they’re still driving the FIAT.
OP aside, it’s still quality.  The redhead is super good.
Mahou Shoujo Ore   (episodes seen:  3)
Tumblr media
Magical Girls What Are Magical Boys.
I have nothing to say about this.  You all know the premise:  Girl’s mum used to be a “magical girl” and this yakuza-looking guy tells the daughter she had to take her mum’s place.  And PEAK COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS is achieved by turning you into a MMA prize-fighter, but you still get to wear the frilly dress.
Mahou Shoujo Site   (episodes seen:  4)
Tumblr media
Why....  Why do I keep doing this to myself.  First Madoka Magica.  Then Hell Girl.  Then Magical Girl Raising Project.  Now this.  I know that there are at least three more in there I forgot;  they were forgotten for good reason.
Normally we get the 3-episode warm up.  No.  No, we’re right into this shit off the bat:  No ominous-yet-vague prologue, no death flags, no undertones.  It’s all right there.  Right in the open.  All the subtlety of a thermonuclear detonation.
I was wondering why it was so on the nose and then I noticed it’s the guy who wrote Mahou Shoujo of the End and just kind of thought to myself “Oh.  No shit?   Fuck, alright.  I need harsher whisky.”  So bought a bottle of Isle and threw away the cork.  All I can taste is salt and iodine, and there is no god or happiness on this earth.
Don’t watch this if you ever want to feel happy again.  It’s taken me a week to get through episode 1 and I’ve seen someone get pulled into an industrial shredder.
Sword Art Online Alternative:  Gun Gale Online   (episodes seen:  4)
Tumblr media
So “PubGale Online: Phantom Loli” chronicles the story of Amazonian College Girl on her quest to be smol.  She also accidentally becomes one of the most renowned player-killers in the game.
“BuT sAo Is GaRbAgE,” I hear you screech in an autistic fashion.  Yes, kids.  Yes it is.  And I love it anyway.  However, might I inform everyone that someone finally slapped my boy, Rekki K’s hands away from the writing desk long enough to let some other writefag make some fanfic that is largely unrelated to, and take place a roughly a year after, its parent story.  Oh, by the way, that writefag is none other than Sigsawa Keiichi; the man who created Kino’s Journey.  So yea, strap in for some pretty competent writefaggotry.
Look, it’s an adorable girl in pink with a P-90, which is also pink, mercing military guys.  Either you want this in your life, or you hate fun.  Do you want that?  To be known as someone who hates fun?

"But Reed,” I hear you say.  “Wasn’t Root A a toxic dumpster fir of an adaptation?  Why would you watch this?”  Yes, you are correct;  Morita Shuuhei was in fact charged with several human right violations and war crimes for what he did to Root A.  Which is why, after having read the manga for both TG, and TG:re I was absolutely terrified going into this.  so far it seems to be an accurate adaptation, but so was the original up until the end of season 1.  and given that this is already slated for a second season, I am biting my nails.  That said, they seem to have sped up the manga’s GLACIAL pacing to that a dog that jut had turpentine rubbed on its asshole.  Still, they don’t seem to have skipped out anything, even if they do seem to have adapted 40+ chapters in 4 episodes, but I started reading TG:re like, a year ago, so I could be wrong.
Let my boy Kaneki be happy.  OST is still great.  Either way, we’ve got that going for us.
Uma Musume    (episodes seen:  4)
Alright, so either you have known about this since early 2016, or you have no idea what it is.  If you’re in the former category:  you’ve either been waiting for this day with the anticipation of a alcoholic waiting on their next pint, or you’ve been petitioning the UN to nuke Japan a third time.  If you are in the latter and don’t know what this is... well.  please:
youtube
Kantai Collection, but with race horse girls.  That’s it.  That’s the show.
Personally, I’m waiting to hear about certain character getting part-time jobs at the glue factory.

Or to those of us initiated in moonspeak:  “It's Difficult to Love an Otaku”
Or to me:  “that one that almost turned my gay friend straight” I mean, guy was several pints deep in 10% beer, but still.
It’s an anime about something none of us will ever have:  a dysfunctional relationship revolving around weeb shit.  Mind you, I have crippling trust issues while the rest of you are socially inept.
Look, the long and short of it is:  this show makes me feel warm and fuzzy, and it drives me to drink.

Fall 2017 Anime First Impressions
And so here I am again, three weeks late because I can never keep up. Fall 2017 thus far doesn’t seem too, too bad, but I’m sure that will change, considering the multiple original shows on my watching list. Luckily there’s plenty of cute girls doing cute things shows, which is all I need, really. As usual, here’s what I’m watching, with MAL links and original shows marked: Osake wa Fuufu (MAL) Starting off with a short show this time. Osake wa Fuufu follows a wife, Chisato, and her husband, Sora. Sora likes making drinks, and Chisato likes drinking. Match made in heaven, if you ask me. The show even includes drink recipes depending on the featured drink, and a food pairing with it. It's a three minute show about a cute, drunk wife. What's not to like?
URAHARA (MAL) Taking a sharp departure from the calmness of Osake wa Fuufu, URAHARA involves three fashion-loving Harajuku girls saving the planet from aliens. This show is Harajuku personified. Everything from the character design to the OP explodes with a bubbly, colorful atmosphere, wrapped up in a beautiful watercolor aesthetic. ORESAMA's fantastic brand of electropop is the exact cherry on top the art style needed. Rito is the skateboarding, soft-spoken girl with demon horns, Kotoko is the peppy blonde kemonomimi, and Mari is the twintailed idol who also owns the clothes shop the girls work at. After aliens sucking up cultural landmarks appear, an American girl wearing a talking fried shrimp shows up, gives them "physical manifestations of imagination," and they promptly transform into magical girls and fight the aliens, making them explode and turn into donuts. Sure, that made no sense at all, but everything's so colorful. Capped off by a similarly bubbly ED, this show is just outright fun. If it stays about three cute girls happily fighting fashion-stealing aliens, I'm in.
Dies Irae (MAL) Just as an FYI, Dies Irae aired an episode zero prequel, but I've waited until the formal episode one before doing any impressions, seeing as the prequel was a complete clusterfuck anyway. Now then, after the prequel involving Nazi supermen, Dies Irae's main series cuts to the future and the protagonist Ren, a solemn oft-hospitalized teen. Plenty of mysteries abound - a sudden murder, a strange vision at a museum, a runaway friend, a girl calling him Cagliostrio in a dream - interspersed throughout an otherwise thoroughly boring slice of life. Following that, the episode alos teases plenty of the insane bullshit the prequel was few of. In one line, one character drops 5 proper nouns we have had zero interaction with, with the off mention of one name from the prequel episode. Foreshadowing is fine; introducing three characters in the span of 15 seconds and then talking about 5+ more of them is a bit much. The art is nothing special, and the orchestral soundtrack is unique enough, but if the prequel was any indication, this show is going to get insane, really fast. And not insane like the fun, rollercoaster ride kind. More like the trying-too-hard, unnecesarily edgy, impossible to actually follow kind.
Net-juu no Susume (MAL) Ah, the MMO spin on the isekai genre. Net-juu follows Moriko, a NEET woman living alone who devotes her time to playing a guy (Hayashi) in an MMO. She meets with an amazingly cute girl, Lily (who later we see to be a guy IRL), and they start adventuring together. Cut to 70-odd levels of grinding, joining a guild, and an upgraded PC later, Moriko/Hayashi has settled in just fine. First off, Lily's VA is the fucking cutest, holy shit. My reactions about echoed Moriko's anytime she was being cute. Other than that, the first episode was surprisingly sincere. Relatively light on the "MY REAL LIFE IS ON THE INTERNET!!" in favor of Moriko just being more of an awkward, lazy video game nerd. Using video games to not have to deal with real life is nothing new, but the heart with which Hayashi/Lily meet and grow in just one episode impressed me. This could go either way, and I'm hoping it stays a interesting vignette on the trials and tribulations of the two lives Moriko lives.
[ORIG] Just Because! (MAL) Next up, Just Because sees Eita Izumi returning after four years to his locale's high-school, reuniting with people he lost touch with. The first episode sees a wonderful moment of return, as Eita practices with an old baseball friend, leading the practicing band to strike up into the chorus they played at games, seeminginly on their own. The trumpets flowing into the full orchestral matches the rising tone perfectly. Juxatposed with a Photography Club facing termination and a former class prez buried in obligations, a web of connections lies in wait, ready to reaccept Eita. The art is quite muted, and even with complaints about the hot weather, the sun is behind clouds and the cityscape is grey, as opposed to the beating sun we often see. Just Because's first episode, while not telling much, showed plenty, and indicated what the main issues would be and who would be involved, and that's exactly what a first episode should do. If an original work is showing that early on, maybe it has more direction than most - and that's a very good thing.
[ORIG] Two Car (MAL) Sidecar racing is something I haven't seen, for sure. The island of Miyakejima, with its uncontrolled speed limits, is home to famous sidecar racing, or "kneeler racing" competitions, and the show follows the endlessly arguing but amazingly similar local team of Yuri and Megami. A bouncy pop soundtrack plays over the high-speed racing, creating a light yet competitive tone that perfectly fits the colored visuals, featuring the same artist/production company as Masamune-kun no Revenge from a few seasons ago. Discord has cropped up between Yuri and Megumi due to their beloved coach leaving for greener courses and the feelings they had for him as he left. The cuts between the high-speed raising and the melancholic, reflective flashbacks does quite well in explaining their movements throughout the race - catching us up to speed, so to speak. The tone of the show comes across perfectly as the episode closes, backed up by the fantastic soundtrack and beautifully done OP and ED. You just feel this show is time spent on an island, split between relaxing and racing. It's wonderfully done. It remains to be seen if this show will echo others like Minami Kamakura and Bakuon and go really into the mechanical aspect of sidecar racing. However, this show is a surprisingly emotionally-based piece where emotions are expressed on the race course - and I'm interested in more.
[ORIG] Animegataris (MAL) Minoa is our orange-haired, ahoge-sporting protag, called out by the school princess Kamiigusa to talk about anime, of all things. Go figure. Coming off the trash that was Gamers last season, the blonde perfect girl actually being a huge nerd is already tiring. Minoa is looking for the name of an anime that moved her as a kid, and to do it suggests to get the anime club back in action, then promptly gets roped into leading it. Her endless optimism isn't original but it's always refreshing, and the use of anime to let Minoa see "more of Kamiigusa's faces" is a bit better than just having the red face of a normally "perfect" girl besmirched by the recognition she likes anime. Also there's a huge-headed cat and a somehow magical beret, which came out of the blue just a bit. We get a sneak peak of the future members, ranging across all archetypes and social cliques, and then the magical beret comes back and the cat now talks. Interested to see where the hell any of that goes, but if this stays more comedy and less Gamers romance-misunderstanding bullshit, I'll be satisfied. Also, both the OP and ED (especially the OP - GARNiDELiA is so good) are great. Some very strange plot choices, especially worrying in an original work, but if they pay off this will be enjoyable. Let's just hope they do.
Mahoutsukai no Yome (MAL) Backing off the slice of life, Mahoutsukai imagines a modern day world intertwined with fantasy - beastmen, magic, and the few humans who can see it - one of them being Chise Hatori, ostracized for her power until she is bought at an auction by a legendary mage, Elias, who aims to make her his apprentice. Chise is actually a "Sleigh Beggy," a rare being that attracts "faries and mysteries," whatever that will eventually entail. Mahoutsukai thus far gives off a kind of Uchouten Kazoku vibe as Chise moves into Elias' tranquil house. An ostensibly normal-looking environment inhabited by mystical beings, and a duality of calmness and turbulent themes below echo Uchouten's politics. The juxtaposition of the forcible buying of Chise versus the welcoming environment she is brought in creates an interesting dynamic that I'm interested in seeing played out. The animation is beautiful, and the small switches to a more chibi style aren't disruptive in the least. Aside from some confusion about the initial setup of the world, if this show becomes a magical slice-of-life with even a fraction of the heart of Uchouten, I'm in.
Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou (MAL) Two girls in old-school fatigues, cruising around a cold, apocalyptic, industrial wasteland. Sounds cool to me. Chito is the collected, tired foil to Yuuri's galavanting, charismatic self. The animation is a bit divergent, in that while the landscapes are detailed in their greyness, the art of the two girls echoes something like Hidamari in its style. While initially strange, it didn't become anything more than just "noticeable." The muscial backdrop is a flowing, airy tone that fits well with the girls having fun praticing shooting or walking around looking for supplies. The music and the attitudes of Chi and Yuu create an atmosphere to the point that doesn't feel like a depressing, sober look at war. Seeing it through the eyes of two children also puts the concepts of war and conflict in eerily simple terms, providing a new look at a concept done to death, so to speak. There's a strangely relaxed feel despite the landscape and color scheme. It remains to be seen if this will go the route of Made in Abyss, especially with an out of place scene at the end of the episode, but while MiA was fucking phenomenal, I could do with less bawling two seasons in a row. This is a strange one, but the simple story of Chi and Yuu trudging across the snowy landscape is appealing.
Konohana Kitan (MAL) Cute fox girls working at a traditional Japanese hot spring hotel? I'm in. Yuzu is the nervous newbie, Kiri is the charismatic head attendant, Natsume is spunky and atheletic, Satsuki is responsible to a fault, Ren is the doll-like one whose personality doesn't match her cute exterior, and there's the diminutive, quiet Sakura. The personalities of the girls are varied and interplay nicely, and I look forward to seeing how Yuzu fits in. Moreover, the art is fantastic. The character designs echo perfectly the individual personalities, and the landscapes of cherry blossoms are stunning. I personally love the traditional Japanese aesthetic the inn and surrounding town embody, and it obviously fits well with the fact that the girls are all kitsunes. Konohana seems to me like a slightly less energetic/comedic Urara Meirochou, which is a good thing. The aesthetic is great, the girls are cute - this is a show for healing, and I need it.
Blend-S (MAL) Maika, a perpetual job hunter with her naturally scary eyes, finds her home at a cafe where all the waitresses are archetypes, as the sadistic one. Blend-S is almost like a more overt version of the varied personalities in Working!, with all comedy and less romance. I quite like the juxtaposition of the girls' normal personalities when talking to each other and their work personalities (especially when the line blurs). While usually its a cute girl who's actually evil or something and used as boring shock value, being the point of the show pivots the concept into a new way I enjoy. Even moreso, Maika especially has plenty of quirks that bely her role as the "normal" main character. The art is clean and sharp, and the girls have great character designs - I really like the facial designs. The OP, by the VAs (which is always a plus), is fantastic both in design and music, and compliments the more relaxed ED (which is also by the VAs). Overall, this show is friendly and the girls are cute. Sounds good to me.
Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-bitch na Ken (MAL) Adaptations with stock character protagonists and plenty of overt fanservice.  Yay. I'm amazed this isn't from an LN, because it is exactly that kind of show. Shobitch begins with our MC Shinozaki confessing to Kosaka, which she accepts. Then she learns "how to be a good girlfriend," which far more often than not involves plenty of fanservice. Also, despite him having a girlfriend, there's a whole variety of other girls interested in him - the childhood friend and imouto get ticked off the list int he first six minutes. On the bright side, the art is great. Character designs aside from the protag are varied and well-drawn. Kosaka's earnestness with which she wants to be a good girlfriend is endearing in itself, but the 100% focus on sexual themes is just a bit tiring. Sort of like how Kuzu no Honkai went from seriously emotional to reducing any character motivation to "the only way I can be loved is physically." Regardless, you know exactly what you're getting into with a title like this show. There are some genuine emotional moments, but they are few and very far between. Otherwise, Shobitch is a well-drawn yet bland ecchi definitely-not-LN adaptation.
Inuyashiki (MAL) Last but not least, adding to the limited action slate I'm watching this season, we have Inuyashiki. Inuyashiki is, for lack of a better term, strange. It begins with nearly all CG, but then transitions to a mix of normal animation and CG for the rest of the episode. The first half of episode one is one of the most solemn, depressing sequences I've seen, and that's blown away by a whirlwind of aliens, body-swapping, and mechanical bodies. While the tonal shift is quite jarring, the change wasn't anything completely incomprehensible. The problem will be where this will go, now that Ichiro, our man with months to live, is now equipped with alien technology. I'm hoping that within the mix of action there will be a sense that Ichiro, now unshackled by sickness, can make concrete steps to make his life better. While the action shots were nice-looking, and the CG actually doesn't look half bad, with how emotionally powerful the first half of episode one is I want to see more of that as well. Either way, Inuyashiki has my attention, and I'm eager to see where Ichiro goes.
