OC-Tober/Tojoctober Day 10: Boss

Believe it or not, Goro Goddamn Majima is not the worst boss Aoyagi has ever had. Oh, don't get it twisted--he's definitely in the top five (mostly because of that time he had Aoyagi shot in the back--long story, not what it looks like, it worked out okay but damn).

The night he finally let Aoyagi swear up, he said two things. First, that he didn't do the pinky thing. And second, if you fucked up, he'd make you wish he did the pinky thing.

He has made Aoyagi wish he did the pinky thing, more than once.

And really, if it was just the beatings, that'd be fine. Yes, Aoyagi realizes it's not actually fine and he's aware of how fucked up a view that is but look, it's the goddamn yakuza, a little random workplace violence goes with the territory. No, it's the other shit that costs Aoyagi hair, sleep, and sanity.

He hears "A-kun!" in that particular ominous singsong and just cringes because he knows he's about to get the most pants-on-head bananapants bullshit dumped onto his shoulders. It wasn't so bad when he ran the cafe. Somehow, the boss understood that running a restaurant is a lot of work and the general manager just can't be pulled off the job willam and nillam to emcee drag shows or peddle glow toys or dye baby chicks or whatever. But now that he's the Chief of Safety for Majima Fucking Construction, and now that he has an office in a trailer that's right there inside the gate, he can't go one damn day without getting yanked off his actual job to coordinate whatever extracurricular bullshit the boss got a wild hair up his ass to do. And however bad he gets this shit, Nishida gets it a hundred times worse. Aoyagi did not enjoy having to wrangle pizza and bouncy castles for the entire company, but at least he's never had to organize a citywide zombie LARP so the boss could impress his crush rival.

The boss invades his apartment at the worst possible times, drinks his beer, eats his food, steals his books, overwrites his game saves (and always names his characters something horrid), and is an otherwise intolerable houseguest. He calls Aoyagi and his bro at ungodly hours of the morning asking for a ride to Poppo for cigarettes and beer and swears he won't get in a street fight this time and if he does he won't drag Aoyagi and Nishida into it (he always gets in a street fight and he always drags Aoyagi and Nishida into it). Aoyagi always gets a little frisson of dread when Kiryu-san comes by the job site to hang out with the boss because for reasons he does not even want to begin exploring, they keep screwing RIGHT BEHIND HIS OFFICE.

But Aoyagi does get a little more leeway to call him on his bullshit than most people do, for reasons that are super unpleasant and that we're not going to discuss. He's one of the few people who can say sir, that's a bad idea and you should feel bad straight to the man's face and (usually) not get punched about it. He even gets a free I told you so if that bad idea ends up with him and his bro hauling the boss to the emergency room again.

And everyone knows about Majima beating the shit out of his men when they screw up... but not so many know about Majima just flinging wads of cash at them when they do good. Aoyagi has come home more than once to find autographed wrestling merch on his table that wasn't there when he left and while he's not a fan of the breaking and entering, he appreciates the sentiment.

If he needs to go to the eye doc or pay a bill or otherwise do some bit of mandatory adulting that can only be done during business hours on a weekday, he doesn't even have to ask. It's not even an issue. Shit, one of his prior bosses backed into his car on company time and then tried to dock his pay for taking an hour to talk to the insurance adjuster. Majima would never.

And then there's the gender thing which, damn near from the moment Aoyagi and Majima met, has been a complete non-issue. Unlike, say, this national chain on the other side of the Pacific which fired the top-grossing district manager in the company three years running because that hotshot district manager damaged their family friendly image (read: legally changed his name, cut his hair off, and started wearing a suit and tie to work in the year of our Lord two thousand and one).

Shit, even if you take the rest of the world out of the equation and just think of this in terms of yakuza bosses, Majima isn't even close to the worst. He has a reputation for taking in the rejects no other family will touch. The family of last resort, Aoyagi heard it called more than once, and that was about the kindest term for it.

But every single man in the family says the same thing, Aoyagi included: Majima helped them when nobody else would. Gave them jobs--the kind that could translate to honest ones later on, even. Made sure they had roofs over their heads and food on their tables. Gave them a family that really cared about them--for some of them, it's the only real family they've ever had. Saved their literal lives, in more than one case--including Aoyagi's.

And really? If the tradeoff for that is the occasional stolen book or I told you so run to the emergency room, Aoyagi can live with it.

hiii i just found this blog and i know there are a lot of trans hcs but i wanted to add my own real quick - just the tenmas though i do have hcs for all the others too essentially all three of them are trans, tsukasa is transmasc nonbinary, saki is transfem, and touya is transmasc genderfluid. saki "came out" (more like just expressed she wanted to be a girl) when she was really little and she decided she liked the name their parents picked out if she was going to be a girl. when tsukasa came out to the two of them, saki actually suggested his name to him and he accepted it immediately. it took touya a longer time to figure things out on their end but when he did she asked the other two to help pick out a new name for them. they are the silliest family to me and they are so important to me also sorry for the hc dump

YES all of them are trans. saki 100% transfem. this blog's top post is literally a post from me saying "transkasa. hit post." (and a reblog of it with a picture of tsukasa holding a trans flag. and i stated in another reblog that he's transmasc to me) toya is transmasc as well. let's be real no cis person looks like that. to me he's a trans boy who likes to crossdress sometimes. who cares if he never crossdresses in canon? he does to me. ehehe i love the tenma siblings so much sorry for chiming in, over to mod toya! - 🎀

been staring at these cards all day, so jokes aside, let's dive in! feel free to share insights/opinions, I really want to understand every side of these cards as much as possible....*sobs* I love them so much

From Now On And Forever - Toya Aoyagi

if you have been following my blog, then surely you know that I have been in a frenzy the past couple of days, starting with the untrained art for this toya card. if you didn't already know this was like, THE akitoya event, then this card is how you know. first off, we finally have official art of the boys without their jackets (thank god, Japan gets really hot y'know let them breathe). secondly, THEY'RE DOING THE GAY FIST BUMP THINGY AAAAAAAAA--so proud of them :')))

thirdly, I love how akito is in the trained art as well! it doesn't happen very often that a second character is in trained art (I now have the obligation to dig through all of the trained art that does and post it here lol), so...it really does scream akitoya event! but....about the trained art.....

HOW. and I repeat HOW is toya not like. screaming and clinging to akito for dear life?? (I will draw to make a joke out of this and post it at some point) if you didn't already know, toya is scared as hell of heights, so I find it hilarious that they chose the theme to be high up in the sky...

also, while obviously I need to read a few more of the vbs event stories, I'm curious to know what the broken cage means...is it Toya's freedom to be his own person, and not be forced to play classical music? the ability to be able to sing with his partner that he truly values? Clearly, the boys are sitting in the cage because even if they can leave, they're still in midair (it seems, anyways)....lots to unpack here!

Midnight Making - Kohane Azusawa

aaaah...this kohane card is so cute......wheqgfqygufhijo it's rare to see kohane in glasses....AND WITH HER HAIR DOWN TOO! she looks so different...and kaito there while she dozes off is a cute touch :D the pink theme is really nice as well, considering that untrained art never really has a theme compared to other's in the set, this one is really pleasing, in my opinion...

now. now. the trained art is absolutely stunning--she looks even cuter in this one, which I didn't know what possible...kohane's innocent little face, looking up at the birds...

OH YEAH. THE BIRDS. so in toya's(+ akito if we're being technical) and kaito's trained cards, the birds are black. (crows, maybe?) but in an and kohane's, the birds are white (doves, most likely). surely, there has to be a deeper meaning to this, right? when you take a second to look it up, no matter what species, white birds are always pure and represent everything good. but black birds are typically the opposite...but I found it interesting that they could represent "change". maybe it'll make more sense when some translations come out for this event, but hmmm....

also, I love kohane's bucket hat. so much. she wears one in a few card cameos + one three star I think (I will now make a collection of this and post it dw), and it's just soooo cuuutteeeeeeee! they really know how to make her look adorable, huh?

You're Particular, Aren't You? - KAITO

damn, I never thought I might become a kaito simp, but this might be the turning point. the untrained art is cute, obviously I don't have context for what's going on there, but seeing street sekai kaito all confident always makes me laugh...I love how rain and meiko are just there. in shock. at whatever is going on. dang it I really need those story translatioooooons--

the TRAINED art is what I can't stop looking at, which is expected. kaito is just standing there and he looks amazing iwqfuhgqeojpwjfie

it's interesting thought, as he isn't in a cage, but on solid ground, near... construction? there's clearly some stairs there, so he appears to be high up...it looks like the empty sekai, if you look closely. strange...

and again, there are the black birds, which surely symbolize something...I just can't put my finger on what, exactly. this whole set just looks really pleasing, I'm not sure what else to say lol

Nuanced Language - An Shiraishi

ah yes, the three-star card. I swear, three-star cards never disappoint, do they? they always look just as incredible as the four-star ones...

for the untrained art, I like the atmosphere a lot, for some reason! it's nice seeing An do things that you'd expect one to do while working...it's simple, it's cute...what else do I need to say?

the trained art, ofc is super pretty... she doesn't appear to be in a cage, like KAITO, but she still seems rather high up. when I saw this card, it made me wonder if all the characters are looking at something in particular...like say, if An was looking up to Kohane...

it's also interesting how she is holding flowers, could that be a reference to the last vbs event? are the birds, like, going to carry them up to Kohane, like how people spectated that Akito's and Toya's art was related in some way for the previous event? I'll never know...

also. An in a hat. not just any hat, but....qjwhfvhaihdfvjkwafefe hang on lemme get over the heart attack I'm currently experiencing right now--

How To Spend Our Days Off - Akito Shinonome

ah yes. YOU. the one who's been part of all of the chaos...this card is what fully convinced me that this event is a "snazzy jazzy" one.

don't ask how I came up with that. I don't know either.

I'm honestly really happy about the card line-up this time around. For the past two Toya focused events, it was with Akito and An both being in the Gacha (and in the same places too, mind you). so having them both in the shop was actually relieving. and Akito did get to be in the trained art!!! WITH TOYA!!!! so it all works out.

there's probably a lot more I could say, but I didn't want this to sit in my drafts for much longer...enjoy my ramblings uwegfyuewfiew :)

OC-Tober/Tojoctober Day 4: Claws

[Hopping over to the Tojoctober list today because fuck it, Aoyagi can have some cat cafe shenanigans as a treat]

This is what you call a "soft open" in the business. The Neko-Kai Cafe is not yet open to the general public and won't be until Saturday, but tonight Aoyagi has opened the doors just for friends and family. He uses that term loosely and tries not to think too much about what the latter half of it used to mean.

New town. New cafe. New name. New everything. It's a lot to not think about.

He spends most of the evening in the kitchen, mixing and kneading and churning out piles of baked goods. Paw print cookies, kitty-shaped anpan, scones in both sweet and savory varieties. Nothing sticky or messy, nothing that requires utensils. Coffee, too. The barista thing is not his strongest suit but he can pull an espresso and make a passable latte art paw print. (he will have an actual barista who knows what the hell he's doing when the place opens for real, but tonight it's just him running the show.)

The cats are handling themselves fine, too. Some of them were a little skittish about all these strangers in their home at first, and Shio and Kosho are still kind of huddled up at the top of the cat tree staring down at the guests and other cats like they're wondering what the hell they've gotten into. Not Miyuki, though. She took a little nudging, because she's deaf as a post and didn't know there were people here to see her. But now Aoyagi watches her work the room like she's been doing this her whole kitty life and wonders yet again: what kind of monster would dump a sweet kitty like this at the pound in the dead of night?

(rest assured that about three years from now Aoyagi will find out exactly what kind of monster would do that, and that monster will absolutely get what's coming to him)

He's putting a fresh batch of biscotti in the oven when he hears someone yelp in the main room. Ah, shit. "Everything okay?" he calls over his shoulder.

"Uh, yeah--" That sounds like Chiba, and he sounds uncomfortable, and at least two other people are laughing hysterically. "Yeah, I just--yow! Easy there, sweetheart! Here, lemme just--no, honey, no, just--hey, Amano? Little help here? Please!? Miyuki-chan's got a--"

However Chiba finishes that sentence, it's drowned out by the siren song of a very happy cat that can't hear herself, followed by even more laughter, which gives Aoyagi time to remember that oh, right, he's Amano.

"The hell ya doin' to my number one girl, Chiba-han?" Aoyagi shucks off his oven mitts and heads into the main room. "Am I gonna have to bounce ya?"

"Looks like Chiba's got a new girlfriend," Sugihara snickers.

"Well, the girls at the club are all going to be glad to hear that," Shiori needles. She has plenty of room to needle. She's a hostess at one of Chiba's regular haunts, after all.

At first glance, everything seems fine. Miyuki is snuggled up in Chiba's lap purring like a muscle car's engine, majestically fluffy head leaning against his chest, lovingly gazing up at him with those big sparkly blue eyes, enthusiastically kneading his thigh. But then her little paw clenches tight and Chiba grits his teeth and makes a weirdly high-pitched noise.

Miyuki takes this like a pro too, lets Aoyagi sit her down in his lap and check her paws until he finds the concealed weapon, doesn't even squirm when he nips the razor-sharp tip off it. He reaches over, snags a cat treat off Sugihara's tray, and feeds it to his number one girl. "Awright, back to work with ya," he says, giving her a scritch behind the ears before she hops right over the table and back into Chiba's lap.

"Yeah, that's more like it," Chiba says, feeding her another treat off his own tray. "Not that I ain't thought about gettin' the snip, but that wasn't how I planned on doin' it."

Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga and Ultra Fight Orb will be released on Blu-ray together on February 11 via Mill Creek Entertainment. Created by Tsuburaya Productions, both tokusatsu series are spin-offs of Ultraman Orb.

Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga is a 12-episode prequel series that premiered on Japan’s Amazon Video in 2016. Kazuya Konaka and Hideki Oka direct, and Hideo Ishiguro, Takaya Aoyagi, Saki Fukuda, Ayane, Asuka Shibuya, and Yasuhisa Furuhara star.

Ultra Fight Orb is a 2017 miniseries comprised of eight three-minute segments. Koichi Sakamoto directs, and Hideo Ishiguro, Mamoru Miyano, and Kohji Moritsugu star.

Ultraman Orb is presented in its native Japanese with DTS-HD Master Audio with English subtitles. No special features are included, but it comes with a collector’s booklet.

Ultraman Orb: The Origin Saga is a prequel to the Ultraman Orb series, detailing the early days of hero Gai Kurenai (Hideo Ishiguro) and his arch-enemy, Juggrus Juggler (Takaya Aoyagi), when they were friends and allies fighting together in their first mission against an alien threat.

Ultra Fight Orb: Borrow the Power of Father and Son is a sequel miniseries to Ultraman Orb that introduces Lightning Attacker and Emerium Slugger, plus the debut of Ultraman Geed.

Following the release of the recent Figure-Oh magazine, Premium Bandai has begun to list up order pages for their upcoming exclusives. Among these exclusive is the S.H.Figuarts Jugglus Juggler (Juggrus Juggler), based on the antagonist from Ultraman Orb. However, Juggler was not always a villain as he was Ultraman Orb/ Gai Kurenai’s one true friend, as seen throughout the series and in Ultraman Orb the Origin Saga. Juggler is considered a fan favorite by many fans due Takaya Aoyagi’s portrayal of the character. Now, as a S.H.Figuarts, Jugglus Juggler will be featured in his majin form. The figure will include 4 optional pairs of hands, his Dark Ring (the evil Orb Ring), and his iconic Serpent-Heart Blade. Below is the official gallery featured on P-Bandai’s website:

Now, pre-orders for S.H.Figuarts Jugglus Juggler are set to open this Friday, August 25th at 16:00 JST (4 pm). S.H.Figuarts Jugglus Juggler will be sold for 7,020 yen however, for intentional buyers they will need to go through third-party options to purchase this figure. In addition, S.H.Figuarts Jugglus Juggler is intended to be released next year in January. Furthermore, S.H.Figuarts Jugglus Juggler will be the third P-Bandai exclusive S.H.Figuarts for the Ultraman series, since its relaunch for the 50th Anniversary. Ultraman Orb can also be seen by North American fans via Crunchyroll, alongside various other Ultraman title, like Ultraman Geed which is available through Crunchyroll’s simulcasts.
