i know like western fandom also gets obsessed w plastic surgery on celebs & bringing down ppl w accusations of ‘fakeness’ for the amount of plastic surgery they get but it does feel like there’s a ... double standard for kpop idols, as if there’s more license to be critical as if they’re ‘lying’ to their fans when every single celeb gets work done. part of it could be that there’s more intense parasocial relations w kpop idols & fostered sense of intimacy so more desire for ‘authenticity’ but it is a double standard that has a racialized tone of entitlement to it of asians needing to reach impossible standards for others’ superficial pleasure. 

korean beauty standards can be complex but kpop fandom judgment of korean looks sure is ironic but also predictable considering the origin of the popularity of plastic surgery literally originated from a white surgeon in the korean war feeling like koreans ‘needed’ plastic surgery bc he felt like he needed to save us from ourselves or whatever. like.......... hello.......

& the idol industry also actively encouraging disordered eating & body dysmorphia which is typical of every other celeb industry but it sure also is deeply hypocritical for fans to basically encourage idols to hate themselves into reaching impossible standards of authenticity when fandom also sometimes gives lip service that idols to take care of their mental health considering what has happened in the past when they don’t...
