Note
Your beautiful recent description of your jaw trouble reminds me of the poem Dog Bite by April Lindner:
"We who led the stranger to our home,
fixed him a bowl, taught him to sleep
under our blankets, we who taught our son
to rub the muzzle that sheathes the teeth."
💙
Weirdly beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Hello and happy Sunday. Thank you @artsyunderstudy and @you-remind-me-of-the-babe for the tags. I just got home from a screening of the moving Framing Agnes, a documentary about trans people from the 50s played by trans actors now, and the actors reflect on the lives of the people they embody. I highly recommend it.
I also highly recommend fic writing, but uhhh, I did not do that. I had all the intentions to write some actual fic, now that I have handed in a thesis draft, but that didn’t happen because I am totally back on my Stardew Valley bullshit. But luckily I have an academic ace up my sleeve (it’s me. I’m an academic ace) aka my thesis. I keep saying it, but I am so happy people like it. I started posting it here as a joke, but I hear lovely feedback from people and I am 😊 about it. @boyinjeans even said he talked about it in class! My thesis is going places!
On Wednesday I talked about queer gaze, queer codes and identification. Have some more of that:
People are very aware of what kind of media they consume and they find subcultural codes in said media (Bengry, 2009; Bridges, 2018). This is also reflected in the queer gaze (Pullen, 2016). Because queer representation had long been banned, the queer community had substituted explicit representation with symbolic representation. The queer gaze can thus see queer subtext in 'straight' films and that also leads to identification with straight characters (Pullen, 2016). Lindner (2011) has written an analysis of how women are portrayed in films about women's football and how you can look at it from a lesbian perspective, also because films about women's football contain many themes that are also relevant to queer women. As indicated earlier, identification helped to discover an identity (Erikson, 1968; Gomillion & Giuliano, 2011) and so the queer community uses straight characters to create and claim their identity. It is a way of appropriating mainstream culture (Lindner, 2011).
(As usual, Dutch under the cut with the weather.)
There is also A LOT about mainstream culture in general in my thesis. It’s the good ole gay assimalism vs. queer liberalism, but now about TV representation. What is normal? What is mainstream? Can “abnormal” queers ever get recognition and respect from the mainstream, or should the queer community fight against it? Power relations yada, yada.
Now that I have handed in a draft for the theoretical framework, I am moving to methodology. I already have two people (possibly three?) who volunteered to be interviewed and tomorrow I am going to spread the word around local queer groups. I am aiming to get a more varied sample when it comes to age and background. I hope to get a clear on my interview guide and ethics checklist next week so that I can start in April. Yeehaw.
And now, the weather: @quizasvivamos @blurglesmurfklaine @coffeegleek @esperantoauthor @otherworldsivelivedin @caramelcoffeeaddict @sillyunicorn @bazzybelle @dragoneggos @raenestee @tectonicduck @nightimedreamersworld @urban-sith @thnxforknowingme @captain-aralias @takitalks @justgleekout @cerriddwenluna @tea-brigade @ivelovedhimthroughworse @moodandmist @whogaveyoupermission @bookish-bogwitch @confused-bi-queer @aroace-genderfluid-sheep @ionlydrinkhotwater @1908jmd @special-bc-ur-part-of-it @larkral @chen-chen-chen-again-chen @cutestkilla @nausikaaa/@wellbelesbian @martsonmars @facewithoutheart @shrekgogurt @boyinjeans
Also, if you want to be untagged for thesis related stuff (or anything), that’s valid and no hard feelings. Let me know.

BERLIN, Oct 17 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has asked the economy, environment and finance ministries to lay the legal framework to keep the country's three nuclear power plants operational until as late as April 15, 2023, a letter seen by Reuters showed on Monday.
Germany had planned to complete a phase-out of nuclear power by the end of this year, but a collapse in energy supplies from Russia because of the war in Ukraine has prompted the government to keep two plants on standby.
Lengthy disagreements within the ruling coalition government over the merits and drawbacks of nuclear energy delayed the implementation of a draft law to put the two plants on reserve beyond their planned phase-out at the end of this year.
As well as the Isar II and Neckarwestheim II plants already included in the draft law, Finance Minister Christian Lindner has been pushing to keep a third plant, Emsland, operational until spring 2023, which Economy Minister Robert Habeck - whose Green Party is historically anti-nuclear - agreed to.
"I would ask that the relevant proposed regulations be presented to the cabinet as soon as possible as part of the distribution of responsibilities," Scholz wrote in the letter dated on Monday.
Scholz also requested that the ministries present an "ambitious" law to increase energy efficiency, and put into law an agreement to phase out coal by 2030.

Indie Games – Top 5 Highest Grossing Games
I talked about AAA games being same in my last blog. One other thing that came up was how successful the indie has become over the past years. I personally enjoy the indie games more than the AAA titles these days like “Hades”, “Hollow Knight” and “Lies of P”. Indie game companies have more sales on steam than these big AAA game companies.
Tumblr media
Like, Palworld and Helldivers 2 have more sale this year than Baldur’s Gate 3, which is the game of the year 2023. I think AAA games studios need to step up their game if they want to be in competition because why would I go to a company where I’m just going to follow a formula, do overtime, work myself to death with no creativity? I would prefer to work in an indie company where I can be creative and learn new stuff and try out different types of styles and art with the benefit of working from home or more benefits than big studios.

Yukon Quest Day
Yukon Quest Day is celebrated on the first Saturday of February and this year it will be marked on February 3. It is time to go on an adventure with Siberian Huskies! Dogs have been working with humans in inland Alaska for over 10,000 years. Folklore in Alaska has mythological heroes who interacted with dogs, and some claim canines to be the ancient ancestor of the first human. During the Alaskan Gold Rush, Leonhard Seppala introduced the Siberian Husky, which was smaller than native Alaskan canines. The current sled dog’s genetic base is made up of indigenous dogs and Seppala’s Huskies. The genetic mix of the normal Yukon Quest Husky has been carefully chosen through many generations of breeders.
History of Yukon Quest
Yukon River serves as the historical highway of the north. The trail would follow the routes taken by prospects to reach the Klondike during the 1898 Gold Rush, and then to the Alaskan interior for subsequent gold rushes in the early 1900s. They despised the Iditarod Sled Dog Race’s numerous checkpoints and envisioned an endurance race in which contestants would rely on themselves and survival would be as important as speed. On the 25th anniversary of the event, Shank stated, “We wanted more of a Bush experience, a race with a little woodsmanship in it.”
The Yukon Quest was conceived in a bar in April 1983 by four Alaskans: LeRoy Shank, Roger Williams, Ron Rosser, and William ‘Willy’ Lipps. To commemorate the Klondike Gold Rush era the four proposed a 1,000-mile sled dog race from Fairbanks, Alaska, to Whitehorse, Yukon. A sled dog race from Fairbanks to Whitehorse had been discussed as early as 1976. But it wasn’t until this discussion that the Yukon Quest became more than just a concept. The race was dubbed the “Yukon Quest” by them to honor the Yukon River.
The first Yukon Quest put both race logistics and all participants to the test. In 1984, 26 teams left Fairbanks. Twenty teams arrived in Whitehorse over the next 16 days. Six teams were forced to abandon the race along the way. Sonny Lindner won the Yukon Quest for the first time, finishing in just over 12 days.

Yukon Quest FAQs
How do other Canadian provinces observe Yukon Heritage Day?
Yukon Heritage Day is observed on the final Friday of February. Heritage Day, on the other hand, is observed on the third Monday of February throughout the rest of Canada’s provinces and territories.
Is Yukon Quest harder than Iditarod?
The Iditarod has tougher competition, but the Quest path is far more difficult than the Iditarod, and it’s not simply because of the mountains. It is, in fact, the Yukon River. The Iditarod only travels roughly 130 miles along the Yukon, whereas the Quest travels closer to 400 miles.
What is the prize for winning the Yukon Quest?
Mushers in the Yukon Quest 1,000 Mile International Sled Dog Race will compete for a minimum guaranteed payout of $100,000. A portion of the prize money will be distributed to the top 15 finishers.
Yukon Quest Activities
Play the other games in the Yukon Sourdough Gathering: You can enjoy other winter sports like Dog Team Derby, Ski & Snowshoe Races, Ice Skating, Ice Hockey, Snowshoe Ski Ball, Bowling, and Basketball. There are many options to pick from.
Enjoy the carnival: The Yukon Sourdough carnival also includes fireworks, BBQ, ice sculptures, dancing performances, air shows, and a fiddle tournament. It is a feast for the senses so indulge in the merrymaking.
Learn about the history and legacy of Yukon: Do not only participate in numerous activities with your family but also connect with Yukon's legacy today. The festival's main goal is to bring all Yukoners together to celebrate the end of another winter.
5 Intriguing Facts About Yukon Quest Day
The coldest competitive sport ever: Every February, during the coldest and most unpredictable months of the year, this incredible winter event takes place.
Bad weather conditions don’t hamper the race: The Yukon Quest race begins on time, regardless of the weather, and lasts between 10 and 16 days until the last team crosses the finish line.
They’ve been no missed events: Since 1984, the Yukon Quest has taken place every year.
The trail follows the historic Gold Rush: This has been followed from the turn of the 20th Century.
Each team has 14 dogs: One human and 14 canine athletes traverse some of North America's last pristine wilderness.
Why We Love Yukon Quest
We love the stamina and drive of sled dogs: Sled dogs are serious athletes and the heart and soul of this sport. They are top marathon pros and are regarded as such throughout training and competition.
It emphasizes strategy: The race relies heavily on strategy and routine. The driver of the dog sled (musher) juggles between being a coach, cook, motivational speaker, cheerleader, and companion.
It’s the only international sled dog race: What began as a chat between mushers in a Fairbanks bar has evolved into something else. It is now one of the most widely followed sled dog races in the world, as well as the only one that covers two nations.

Germany's Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Friday unveiled plans to cap electricity prices for energy-intensive industries to protect the sector from sharp cost increases.
According to the plan, the upper limit of €0.06 (roughly $0.07) per kilowatt hour (KWh) should apply until 2030.
It should cover at least 80% of the electricity consumption of a clearly defined group of German companies from energy-intensive industries such as chemicals, steel and glass manufacturing.
How much will the price cap cost?
The electricity price for non-residential customers averaged €0.18 without taxes in the second half of 2022, according to the German statistics agency Destatis.
Beneficiaries would see the difference between the market price for electricity and the cap reimbursed, with the total cost of the project running to between €25 billion and €30 billion, according to the proposal.
Habeck, who represents the Greens in the government, is perhaps counterintuitively recommending that the taxpayer subsidize some of Germany's biggest polluters. He described the proposal as a necessary long-term "bridge" solution until renewable capacity is expanded and prices fall. Otherwise, the government argues, there's a risk that the major employers and sometimes systemically important industries relocate from the country.
Energy costs rose sharply in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as Moscow dwindled critical gas supplies to Europe.
Plan is aimed at 'critical branches of industry'
Germany's parliament approved a €200-billion energy relief plan in November to protect consumers and businesses from sky-high energy costs through April 2024. The government plans to pay for the scheme using these funds.
The measures had "stabilized energy-intensive industry but we must not squander this achievement," Habeck said at a press conference.
The new cap would ensure that "critical branches of industry" remained based in Germany and Europe, Habeck said.
The VCI chemicals lobby has already welcomed the price cap in a statement as a "clear game-changer for our international competitiveness."
Who is critical of the proposal?
However, the proposal immediately met with criticism, including within the German governing coalition, a three-way alliance between the Social Democrats, Greens and the business-friendly FDP.
"I take a very critical view of the industrial electricity price," Finance Minister Christian Lindner wrote in the Handelsblatt daily earlier this week.
The idea was "economically unwise", said Lindner, whose party the FDP has championed Germany's balanced-budget orthodoxy.
Habeck's proposals could also raise concerns in Brussels that Germany is unfairly subsidizing its industry.
The ministry said it would "enter into a constructive discussion with the European Commission on all competition-related issues," while calling for a broader "European strategy to strengthen energy intensive industries."
