Tell me your thoughts about Ace dadd I MEAN zero escape axe

Give me a character; and I'll break their ass down:

How I feel about this character: HIM HIM HIM!!! Okay so I'm sure everyone knows how abso-fuckin-lutely insane I was back in 2011-13 about him. And y'know what, that Emilee sucked because she was defending this piece of garbage. Luckily, I've grown and changed as a person. And now I know when I love trash, it's just trash. And that's fine! But anyway, fandom shit aside, Ace is a very cool character. He's one of the best "gotcha!" characters in the series, as you don't go in suspecting him. He's very smart, and plays the game well. Safe End makes me so angry at him, though - I hate how he brags about killing Clover to Snake. That ending, he really gets on my nerves. But every other ending I'm fine with him. He's just batshit crazy and that's okay. <3

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Nijisaki first and foremost - bc yes, "Zero made me kill my boyfriend without realizing" is so deliciously angsty. But also, Seven. And also Lotus. And Seven and Lotus. And I have my crack ships too, but I won't say them here... iykyk. ;)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I think it'd be neat if... like... he was forced on a parole with Seven to investigate Free the Soul and maybe they form a "handler/prisoner" sort of vibe. Idk that just was coming from the top of my head. Also, Ace and Akane in an "enemies that are two sides of the same coin" sort of relationship. I roleplay Ace with my good friend Sey as Akane, and as I've put it, "the two of them have a fucked-up symbosis of sorts".

My unpopular opinion about this character: That uhhh I wanted him back in ZTD?? That would've been neat. Also, he should be on more fanart of the crew. Artists excluding him from the cast when drawing them is more of a spoiler than they realize sdfghjsdl.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Well like I said, him returning in some capacity would've been amazing... even if I'm probably the only one that wanted that lmao.

Re: being unstageable

Faust I, the first part, is very stageable. Sure, it has a lot of scene changes and parlor tricks and puppetry and other things that not every theater might be able to do. But all in all it's a pretty straightforward play with a pretty straightforward plot, and it gets staged dozens of times every year.

Faust II, the second part, does occasionally get staged but is really more meant for reading. It was published 30 years after the first part, at the end of Goethe's life. It's long. It contains a lot of mythology, philosophy, politics, and various other things that were important to Goethe. Feel free to skip this one if you're not into it.

Re: translations

It's pretty relevant to the success of Faust (I) that its language is absurdly beautiful and frankly half its lines are standing expressions at this point. Dealing with all that, and in verse, and in a manner that an actor trained on English texts can handle, has to be difficult for any translator.

I have not read the whole thing in English for obvious reasons, but I have looked into some translations that are (more or less) available online and here are my links / thoughts. All of these have both parts.

Bayard Taylor (1871): FAUST

This is the version for which the Harry Clarke illustrations were made so it will always have a special place in my heart. It is fine, I think. The famous phrases are all somewhere between defanged and gone, the flow is a bit weird in places. The characterisation of Faust and Mephisto comes across really strong, but a lot of the minor characters and scenes have a pretty different vibe to the point where I think it might be on purpose.

Thomas Wayne (2016): Fairest Faust

I like that this is called Fairest Faust ngl. It is not the fairest translation. I think the intention here was to stick very close to the original text, losing the meter and going for very awkward phrasings at times. Read if you hate poetry and would like to know what English would be like if it were German, or if you're already reading the German text and want to know if you misread something.

A. S. Kline (2003): Faust Parts I & II

This man apparently translates everything from every language, which does make me suspicious. But what I've read of this translation is good! It flows well, it's readable, the good phrases are recognisable, I like it. I guess the meter is kind of wild in places but oh well, no one's asking me to memorize it.

Re: operas

Boito's Mefistofele is by far the best Faust opera as an adaptation of the Goethe play(s). Berlioz is doing his own thing and the whole vibe is honestly more Werther than Faust, to me. Gounod is just the Gretchen story but with all the hard edges filed off. Busoni's Faust is intentionally not Goethe but at the same time a very good adaptation in that it has the essential Goethe Faust vibes (depression, frustration, religious conflict, science and the futility thereof, fun and the futility thereof, refusing to take responsibility for your actions, meditations on theater, and a strange fascination with the feminine).

Hello! I'm Macaron (Mac is fine!)

In short: I'm an artist, writer, and human (probably...) I am an Old Adult. Any pronouns work! I like cute women and weird guys.

In long:

I like to draw, write, and experience cute girls and weird guys (and sometimes cute girls and weird girls and weird guys with weird guys and gender ambivalent characters etc etc). I guess this falls under "monster romance" but I feel like a lot of that tagged on here is porn and I'm bi grey ace so it's kinda meh to me although of course I support my fellow authors 💜 I'm up for suggestions on how to tag my original content.

Please be aware that I write mature content—this means themes of adult life as well as horror, trauma, and very very rarely nsfw. Everything should always be tagged appropriately, and I am happy to provide details or even censored versions in a DM if you are unsure you can interact with it safely.

If it's a story about inhuman/human relationships —whether it's partners, romance, best friends, parental, or literally impossible to define in real world terms, I am HERE for it! I am always up for recommendations, especially indie content and in particular YOUR content if you're in a similar genre!

I love making friends who like the same things, so please don't be afraid to comment or DM me.

I also think it's very important to note that while you can certainly see my influences from the following fandoms, please do not assume my original content has the same intended audience! Most things I enjoy are rated Teen and up whereas I would place my own content as Mature and up with an emphasis on the UP. I don't want anyone to think 'oh, these characters remind me of Noel and Caron! and then be disappointed or upset when they don't behave like them at all and my writing is much more mature than that!

You may have noticed that I am hyperfixated on Noel the Mortal Fate (Caron and Noel/karonoe are THE characters EVER for me and I am obsessed with their unique, unable to exist-in-reality partnership and if you don't like it boy are you gonna hate the ending lol) I do tag for spoilers but you need to add "noel the mortal fate spoilers" to your blacklist.

On the less pleasant side, I do not tolerate bigotry, harassment, and I really, really don't like discourse. If your blog deals with those things I won't follow back unless it is tagged, and if your behavior appalls me I will block. Be kind please and simply block me if you dislike my content.
