currently thinking about the strikes, and if actors aren't giving interviews and promoting all the new movies/shows we're excited for this summer, they might not garner much attention. this means we have to do our best to promote them where we can.

lesser known actors on smaller productions (like rwrb) aren't going to get as much attention for striking as all the a-listers, so lets make their decision worth it by hyping up these projects ourselves! they're fighting for a good cause and I think we can all help by drawing attention to their work and trying to keep hype up while they take a step back

my only criticism right now is that they cut so many of my fave lines and moments. so many important moments, stuff that really make ari’s character, and show his relationship with people around him. i get that they had to cut it bc it’s a movie but in my ideal world director’s cut is a 5 hour long movie that includes ari’s narration

I imagine the answer is just Complicated Movie Politics but I really want to know why ari and dante is getting such a small release as compared to love simon, something that's the same genre (and the book is much better, much as I love svthsa). The only valid reason I can think of is that ari and dante is literary in a way that lends itself to being an indie movie more than to being a blockbuster, the other reason is racism but like hopefully it's not that….

just watched the ari and dante movie and i have Thoughts

(gonna keep it as spoiler free as possible)

*disclaimer it's been years since i last read the book*

i've never seen eugenio derbez so serious and oh my god i love it his performance was exquisite

sam quintana is so FINE omg

i need literally every single outfit dante and sam wore, specifically dante's glasses in the scene where he meets the Mendozas

i absolutely LOVED The Convo between ari and his parents it was so perfectly excecuted

kinda wish they had explored ari's relationship with gina, suzie, and elena a little bit but not mad they didn't really include it

really wish the bathtub scene was included cuz it was so RAW in the book it would've been perfect for the emotial context of the movie

i think this book would've also made a great tv show but the movie did it justice and i'm so glad that it was in the hands of an amazing writer like Aitch Alberto I love her and i wish her the world

obviously i know its hard to adapt books into movies and honestly i loved this movie a lot more than i liked the rwrb movie

The Quintanas

In the scene where Ari goes to the Quintana’s house to pick up legs, Sam looks disheveled, like he was crying all night and barely pulled himself out of bed. He spent the night at home, while Soledad spent the night with Dante. Soledad looks put together, has makeup on, her hair done, and optimistically agrees with Ari when he says he’ll be okay. She only falls apart in the hall when she has to once again come face to face with what happened as she explains it to Ari. Despite feeling the same grief, their responses characterize them to the audience in very little words: Sam (like Dante) allows himself to display his emotions, while Soledad tries to hold herself together until she can’t anymore.
