Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond review: The Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series will be available for streaming on JioCinema starting from April 25th.
We will read about, "Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond review: The Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series will be available for streaming on JioCinema starting from April 25th." Since its announcement, fans have been eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated online series Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond. There is a lot of craze, discussion and excitement among the fans about the web series.
Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series review
Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series is based on a real incident. While a movie has previously been produced on the Balakot airstrike, Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series delves deeper into the subject matter. In addition to showcasing patriotism, the series also highlights dedication,  courage, enlightening, and emotionally impactful. India conducted Balakot air strike in retaliation after the terrorist attack on India in Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond series. In the show, Jimmy Shergill—a.k.a. Kashyap Sinha, a former RAW agent—plans his counterattack against Pulwama and encounters numerous difficulties. In the Ranneeti: Balakot & Beyond web series Point to point, nothing senseless and every little aspect has been considered. Jimmy Shergill will play a crucial role in the series, and his character has been outlined in length. Ashish Vidyarthi, aka Mr. Madhusudan Dutta, portrays the energetic part of NSA, while Lara Dutta (Manisha Bharadwaj) plays a news presenter. The Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series also features Ashutosh Rana and Satyajit Dubey. The film features amazing performances from all of the stars, as well as excellent photography, action, suspense, and drama. Prior to the emergence of web series, films such as "Operation Valentine" and "Fighter" existed, but it is in the realm of web series where significant efforts have been made. The Pulwama attack has also been referenced in relation to Article 370 within the strategic series. The Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series has sparked immense excitement, fervent discussions, and a great deal of enthusiasm among its fans. Taran Adarsh reviewed it and wrote, " #RanneetiOnJioCinema is storytelling at its best, weaving together the complexities of geopolitics and human drama seamlessly. From the intense war room sequences to the personal sacrifices made by the characters, every moment in #Ranneeti is filled with tension and emotion… The visual effects in this web series are top notch. #JimmySheirgill’s portrayal is nothing short of captivating, grounding the series with his natural talent… A must-watch for anyone craving intelligent, gripping entertainment." Image credit: Jiocinema (Youtube) About Ranneeti: Balakot and Beyond Web Series The series is directed by Santosh Singh and written by Ramiz Ilham Khan, Maitrey Bajpai, Sanjay Chopra, Sudeep Nigam, Aniruddha Guha. Video File Repair For Mac
Sep 15, 2020 I have a lot of video files on my Mac as I like to download videos that I liked. I've just been using Finder and folders but it's getting harder and harder to k. VideoProc is a lightweight tool by Digiarty, and it tops our list of the best video.
About Mac > Storage says I have 17.49 GB of movie files. I don't know what they are and would like to see if I can delete or relocate these supposed files to clear up space. I've tried everything, including searching for types of files, thoroughly searching my hard-drive etc. I've browsed many old topics and none of the suggestions have worked. Does any one know how to solve this problem?
I'm using Macbook ProRetina OS X El Capitan 10.11.

I was just wondering what format everyone uses to watch movies on your Macs. Everyone in my dorm is totally stoked on the Divx and Xvid formats but I couldn't seem to get them to run on my girlfriends iBook. Also I was wondering what formats offer the best compression/playback quality? I plan on buying the next revision of PowerBook and using it to rip DVDs and such so I was just wondering what software I will need. Thanks for all the help. - MacRumors
Watching movies, video clips, TV shows, etc are nothing extraordinary for Mac users, whether they are using MacBook Air, iMac or Mac Mini. But embarrassment comes if your video clips are incompatible with Mac computer. So what video formats do Macs play? Longing for the best video format for Mac? For those who want to know the best video format readable on Macs, this article may well suit you.
Mac Supported Media Formats
Until now there are about 100 media types are supported by Mac OS X, covering a range of video, audio, image and streaming formats. The following table specifically lists some common video and audio formats supported by Mac.
Supported FormatsMac compatible Audio file and data formatsAAC, AIFF, WAVE, uLaw, AC3, MPEG-3, MPEG-4 (.mp4, .m4a), .snd, .au, .caf, Adaptive multi-rate (.amr)Video file formats Supported by MacsAVI, AVR, DV, M-JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AAC, OpenDML, 3GPP, 3GPP2, AMC, H.264, HEVC, iTunes (.m4v), QuickTime (.mov, .qt)
Note: If your files are not in the Mac best video audio formats list, you can resort to a professional video converter for Mac to convert the video to Macbook Air/Pro friendly MP4, MOV, H264, HEVC formats first.
What is the Best Video Format for macOS?
The video and audio formats listed above are fair-weather fan of Mac computer. The net result of this is that it's not just about whether the Mac can play the format or not, it's whether there is any Mac software to support the codec within the file too. In other words, only when the supported video comes with specific codec that Mac supports can your OS X play the file smoothly. The following will list the best video format Mac supports and codecs you will need for a successful playback on your Mac (MacBook/MBP/iMac).
MOV (A filename extension for the QuickTime multimedia file format)
MOV video file uses a proprietary compression algorithm developed by Apple Computer. Mac still remains supreme with the .mov and .mpeg file types. Naturally, MOV is the standard and best video format for Mac. It is known to have the best video quality of all three streaming formats listed here.
MP4(A digital multimedia format most commonly used to store video and audio, subtitles and still images.)
MP4 (MPEG 4) is actually a standard that Apple really pushed with Quicktime 6. So, accordingly, you can use .mp4 format just fine on a Mac. Attention shall be paid it's possible that what's going on is that they use the MPEG4 architecture but they're using a weird codec. Between the native QT7 codecs, the Perian ones, and Flip4Mac, you are mostly covered. But MP4 files encoded with MPEG-4 video or H.264 (preferred) video are also considered as one of the best video formats compatible with Mac OS.
M4V (A video container format developed by Apple and is very similar to the MP4 format.)
Generally, Apple uses M4V encode video files, such as TV episodes, movies, and music videos, in its iTunes Store. The copyright of M4V files may be protected by using Apple's FairPlay DRM copy protection.

DealBook: BlackRock Puts Climate Change Center Stage
Tumblr media
Good morning. (Was this email forwarded to you? Sign up here.)
BlackRock’s big move on climate change
In an exclusive interview with Andrew, the money management giant’s chief, Larry Fink, discussed his decision to make climate change a focus of BlackRock’s investment strategy. The shift could reshape how Wall Street invests. What BlackRock will do, according to Mr. Fink’s latest letter to C.E.O.s:• Exit certain investments that have a “high sustainability-related risk” — but not all, since fossil fuels remain central to the global economy.• Start to press corporate managers on their environmental goals, including leaning on companies to adhere to the Paris climate accord’s targets.• Introduce more funds that avoid stocks related to fossil fuels.“This is a much more structural, long-term crisis,” Mr. Fink writes in the letter. He said he had come to that conclusion after talking with business leaders and scientists and having BlackRock model the economic effects of climate change. The decision was strictly business, Mr. Fink (a major Democratic donor) told Andrew: “Politics isn’t part of this.”Critics may not be satisfied. Last year, lawmakers and activists criticized BlackRock for continuing to invest in fossil-fuel companies and staying quiet on climate-related disasters. And a website launched by the Sunrise Project, a climate-change group, has called on BlackRock to commit this year to tighten its policy on coal investments and make fossil-free funds a default option for investors.Still, the move could change how other money managers operate, given BlackRock’s influence with nearly $7 trillion under its belt. “I believe we are on the edge of a fundamental reshaping of finance,” Mr. Fink writes.____________________________Today’s DealBook Briefing was written by Andrew Ross Sorkin in New York and Michael J. de la Merced in London.____________________________
Round 2 in Apple’s fight against Justice Dept.
The federal authorities have again demanded that the iPhone maker unlock devices used by a gunman who carried out a deadly shooting, renewing a standoff between the government and the tech giant over encryption and privacy. The focus now is on iPhones used by the gunman in a shooting in Pensacola, Fla., last month, that left three sailors dead. Attorney General Bill Barr said yesterday that the shooting was an act of terrorism. And of Apple’s refusal to open the phones, he said, “This situation perfectly illustrates why it is critical that the public be able to get access to digital evidence.”Apple said it had already given investigators plenty of help, including access to the gunman’s iCloud account and transaction history. It did not commit to helping crack open the phones themselves. The conflict boils down to this:• Supporters of Mr. Barr’s position argue that Apple is letting iPhones become a haven for criminal activity by using encryption technology that the government can’t crack.• Apple maintains that privacy is a human rights issue and that Americans “do not have to choose between weakening encryption and solving investigations.”What may be next: The F.B.I. has a court order to open the phones, though Apple defied one related to a 2015 shooting in San Bernardino, Calif. Mr. Barr may turn to lawmakers for help, though many are wary of broadening the F.B.I.’s surveillance powers.
Pieces fall into place for a China trade deal
The Trump administration took another step yesterday to prepare for the signing of a U.S.-China trade agreement this week. But like other measures in the proposed deal, it’s unlikely to lead to long-lasting change. The Treasury Department said that China was no longer a currency manipulator, shedding a designation made last August in the depths of the trade fight. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said the move had come after Beijing agreed not to devalue its renminbi for competitive reasons.Fact check: The renminbi actually rose for most of last year, with China allowing market forces to influence its value. And Beijing propped up the currency at points to prevent it from falling too far. It’s another step toward a deal that falls short of what either side wanted. The U.S. didn’t force greater liberalization of China’s markets, and tariffs remain on $370 billion worth of Chinese exports. (The WSJ has a deep dive into the monthslong negotiations.)Now the U.S. will turn its attention to another trade fight that it started, this time with the E.U. The political bloc’s new trade chief, Phil Hogan, arrived in Washington yesterday for meetings — and Europe hopes his blunt style will help in dealing with the White House.
U.S. turns the screw on Britain over Huawei ties
American officials reportedly warned their British counterparts that any sharing of intelligence would be at risk if Britain used Huawei technology in its 5G wireless network, Dan Sabbagh of The Guardian writes.• A U.S. delegation “presented an incendiary dossier they said featured new evidence of the security risks of relying on Huawei technology in future phone networks,” Mr. Sabbagh writes.• The campaign comes after Britain said it would allow nonessential Huawei equipment, like antennas and phone masts, into the next-generation wireless network.• Giving the Chinese company that sort of access would be “nothing short of madness,” U.S. officials reportedly said.• They added that Congress and President Trump would evaluate intelligence sharing if Britain moved ahead.
Will this be Netflix’s year to win best picture?
The streaming service collected a leading 24 Academy Award nominations, including two for best picture, Brooks Barnes and Nicole Sperling of the NYT write. It’s Netflix’s best chance yet to claim a serious victory over Old Hollywood.Netflix’s Oscar nominees include “The Irishman” (which is up for 10 awards) and “Marriage Story.” The company has two films up for best animated feature, while Disney’s “Frozen 2” was shut out of that category. It was a matter of time — and money. Netflix is spending billions on content, including on projects from awards magnets like Martin Scorsese. Its spending spree is also extending to Oscar campaigns.Traditional Hollywood is fighting back. The big movie chains AMC and Regal won’t screen Netflix’s movies at their theaters, once again citing the service’s refusal to give them a monthslong window to show films exclusively before they are streamed.Yet it still might not be Netflix’s year, at least for best picture. Online oddsmakers have the chances of “The Irishman” winning at about 12 to 1, while “Marriage Story” is at 33 to 1 for some bookies. Sony’s “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” is the favorite, with odds of about 7 to 4.
Harry and Meghan’s exit casts a spotlight on royal finances
Queen Elizabeth II said yesterday that she was “supportive” of the desire of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, to become part-time British royals. But there’s still plenty of wrinkles to iron out on the financial front, Max Colchester of the WSJ notes.• “The couple say they want to become financially independent. But given the web of tax, security implications, royal protocol and the political sensitivity of royal finances, it is unclear whether that is possible.”• Harry and Meghan write on their website that they expect to keep state-funded security and continue to live in a cottage owned by the queen, which the WSJ notes was “refurbished at a £2.4 million ($3.1 million) cost to taxpayers.”• And the family doesn’t have unlimited money, based on what we know — even if they still have a sizable purse. They received about £125 million from publicly disclosed sources.• “They are millionaires, not billionaires,” David McClure, who has written about royal finances, told the WSJ.
The speed read
Deals• The Treasury Department announced new rules that expand oversight over foreign investments into U.S. companies that could raise national security concerns. (WSJ)• Visa agreed to buy Plaid, which provides services to financial-tech companies, for $5.3 billion. (Reuters)• The grocery chain Albertsons is reportedly again preparing to go public. (WSJ)Politics and policy• Iran’s economic woes are limiting its leaders’ willingness to escalate their conflict with the U.S. (NYT)• New Jersey is poised to enact a law that would compensate workers who lose their jobs in mass layoffs, a move that was inspired by the bankruptcy of Toys “R” Us. (Bloomberg)Tech• Russian hackers have targeted Burisma, the Ukrainian natural gas company at the heart of the Trump impeachment. (NYT)• Dating services like Grindr and Tinder are exposing users’ personal data to marketers in ways that may violate privacy laws, according to a new report. (NYT)• Alphabet’s market value is close to surpassing $1 trillion. (FT)Best of the rest• Boeing’s new C.E.O., David Calhoun, could receive a $7 million bonus if the company’s 737 Max resumes flying. (Business Insider)• Drug companies are seeking new ways to lower the price of their most expensive treatments. (WSJ)• American wine purchases dropped last year from 2018, the first time in a quarter-century. (WSJ)Thanks for reading! We’ll see you tomorrow. We’d love your feedback. Modern Day Mysteries for the Scooby-Doo Gang
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
“The Netflix Phantom”: The gang discovers that one too many family members are using their shared Netflix account at a time, foiling their movie night!  But just as Fred gets out his credit card to add more people to the viewing plan, the gang realizes that if they’re all in the room together…who could be the culprit using the account? And is this phantom really watching Adam Sandler’s Murder Mystery when the new season of Stranger Things is available? Like, zoinks, man! The Phantom’s taste in movies is almost scarier than the Gang nearly finding out spoilers online!
“The Fake News Fright”: A mysterious article pops up on Facebook, claiming vaccines are dangerous. Shaggy’s already shared it three times, ruh-roh!  Velma hurries to find some informative Vox videos, but it’s too late: A hot take by anti-vaxxer Donna B. (an account with a turtle in a party hat as a profile picture) is up to seventeen likes and counting. Can the Gang stop the spread of false information in time to save herd immunity? Or will a villain from behind the mask of a computer screen cause widespread disease in America? And how in the world is Scooby the top commenter on the Food Network Facebook page when his paws are far too big for the keyboard?
“The Detox Tea Drama”: When Daphne’s Instagram account (33K followers as of this morning, thank you very much!), publishes some problematic ads for a Detox Diet Tea company, Fred optimistically buys thousands of dollars worth in hopes of bulking up at the gym.  But to his surprise (and only his surprise, if we’re being honest), the supplement has no effect. Now the gang has to prevent Daphne from being cancelled and develop some brilliant PR strategy for her brand, all while exposing the fraudulent Detox Tea company. Meanwhile, Scooby and Shaggy eat a comically large sandwich as hungry, cardio-strong gym patrons engage them in a long-winded chase sequence that continues even through commercial breaks!
“The Haunted Air BnB”: It’s a Sherlock crossover episode this week as the Gang heads across the pond for a star-studded Saturday morning special! Fresh off the plane, Velma beelines to a local pub to get wifi on her smartphone, while Fred and Daphne stumble upon a string of haunted AirBnBs being investigated by none other than British national icon Sherlock Holmes. Will Fred overcome his jealousy and be able to work with Sherlock, despite seeing this chiseled, animated version of Benedict Cumberbatch shamelessly flirt with Daphne? Are the ghosts in the AirBnB paying customers, or simply squatters claiming housing rights? Seriously, how is AirBnB even legal with the limited amount of protections in place for both consumers and hosts?
Meanwhile at the pub, Velma does a few quick Google searches and pieces together the identity of Banksy almost immediately, whom she promptly invites out for a pint and a discussion on social protest through art. And Scooby and Shaggy, of course, angrily learn that Yorkshire pudding isn’t real pudding at all!
“The Mystery of Malaysian flight 370”:  As the Gang’s successes begin to stack up, media pressure pushes them to take on one of the biggest mysteries of the decade:  the disappearance of Malaysian flight 370, which went down due to unknown circumstances in 2014. Fred finds a clip of 60 Minutes that pretty much covers all the theories, and quickly takes credit for the information (since after all, he did find the clip, and that should count for something, right?). The Gang urges Fred to compose and send an email to WhiteHouse.gov sharing his “discoveries”- hooray, another mystery solved! Everyone hops into the Mystery Machine to celebrate and go bowling, except Velma- that wet blanket- who says something like, “Okay, but can we solve the mystery of where my glasses are? Guys? Hello? Are you still here?”
“Velma’s Political Philosophy PhD Dissertation”: That’s right everyone! The Gang’s going back to school! Velma’s dissertation is all about solving a mystery- the mystery of how to implement social contract theory in a modern, free, and moral society!  How can we perpetuate a just and responsible relationship with our government, assuming they are credibly elected by and for the people as endowed by a social contract, without unnecessarily impending on the liberties our country was founded upon? Is the rising trend of neo-liberalism a satisfactory manner in which to maintain a market democracy leading to a standard level of justice and legitimacy in a civil society?
“Come on Scoob, let’s go find a vending machine to shake down. Politics don’t matter to dogs, anyway!” declares Shaggy. (Yes, of course the gang came with Velma to the library; They’ve been running through the shelves and playing quirky music, begging other studying patrons to chase them).
  “A rog? Rhere?” says Scooby.
Velma sighs heavily and makes a note in her paper’s margins: “Maybe we should only let the educated elite vote…”
“Scooby-Doo, where are you? And Find Kony, too!”: After the White House reads Fred’s poorly written email and miraculously believes a man who purchased thousands of dollars of Diet Detox Tea did indeed discover reasonable evidence of a mysterious plane crash, the Gang embarks on a government-sponsored quest to hunt down and capture Ethiopian child army leader and global terrorist Joseph Kony.  “Now we’re agents of the US government?” cries Daphne. “Jeepers, what if I break a nail?”
Velma passes her a stack of feminist literature she brought onto the plane ride, as well as some books on modern psychology, imposter syndrome, and (oh, what the heck),  a copy of Rachel Hollis’ Girl, Wash Your Face.
“What are those?” says Fred, pointing at the books in Daphne’s lap. “Big…comics? Where are all the pictures?”
“….They’re- they’re books,” says Velma, truly afraid for the first time since all this mystery stuff with the Gang started.  Velma unbuckles her seatbelt and searches the plane for an emergency parachute, strapping in. Yes, she’s winging this skydive, but she’ll take her chances. Wherever she lands, Velma will start a new life. Live off the Earth. Anything to get away from these Godforsaken idiots.
Speaking of, where are Scooby and Shaggy, you ask? They forgot to get on the plane! The airport food court had a Del Taco and a Taco Bell, and they’re still elbows deep in the Dollar Menu, trying to decide which is better.
Suddenly Shaggy looks out the window, chalupa all over his scruffy face. “Did Velma just jump out of that plane?” he says.
“Rehehehehehe!” replies Scooby. Shaggy sighs. It’s times like these he can’t help but begin to resent his canine friend. Maybe he’d be closer to Velma if Scooby wasn’t always around, demanding attention in such a controlling manner. Shaggy studies the Great Dane that has somehow become his closest confidant, a creature that drinks out of a toilet bowl. Sometimes, late at night when he lies in bed, Shaggy can’t help it. He wonders if Scooby could be a figment of his lonely imagination. A companion he dreamed up out of the desire to be noticed, to be loved…after all it’s been years since he’d felt the touch of a woman. Three long years.
“The Scooby Snack Attack:” Who took the Scooby Snacks from the Scooby Snack jar?! A timeless question- but with this time, with a few simple reviews of home security footage, the Gang can see Scrappy Doo is the culprit. “And I would have gotten away with it, too- if it wasn’t for you meddling kids, and the Ring Security system smart doorbell (available now for three-payment installation with promo code SCOOBY at checkout!)!”

Aurora-Coke Rumors: All Smoke and No Toke
Aurora-Coke Rumors: All Smoke and No Toke:
Share a Coke With Aurora Cannabis?
Are you well rested from the holiday break?
I hope so, because I have a doozy of a conspiracy theory in the cannabis sector for you today. It involves the most widely held stock on Robinhood and the world’s largest soft drink maker.
Before we get to the speculation, let’s start with the facts.
On Monday, Aurora Cannabis Inc. (NYSE: ACB) announced that Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Cam Battley was leaving the company. Battley was considered the face of Aurora, so his leaving hit investor sentiment hard.
What’s more, analysts at Jefferies downgraded Aurora to hold from buy on the news. “It is clear to us that the market is lacking conviction in Aurora, and this update will do little to help that,” the ratings firm said in a note to clients.
ACB plunged 8% on Monday as a result.
Now for the speculation. A gentleman by the name of “Gabor the Blind Guy” posted a video to YouTube earlier this week where he tries to open a new childproof lid his father designed for Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO). According to Gabor, this childproof lid is for a new cannabidiol (CBD) drink that Coke is releasing in Canada.
Coke childproof lids? Coke CBD drinks?
There’s nothing in the news about any of this … save for one article over at TheCannabisStock.com.
Anyone else remember the last company Coke was talking with to produce CBD drinks?
That’s right: Aurora Cannabis.
The Takeaway:
Don’t go looking on YouTube for the video — it’s gone.
In fact, Gabor’s entire YouTube account is gone. So are his Facebook and Twitter accounts. I’m thinking someone accidentally broke a nondisclosure agreement here. Oops.
But this is the digital information age. Nothing is ever truly gone. In fact, you can find a mirror of the video here (while it lasts).
Now, I don’t need to tell you that Aurora could really use a boost … and a deal with Coke would be a major coup for the cannabis company. Aurora just rolled out its Cannabis 2.0 products in Canada, including a long list of edibles, vapes and drinks. A Coke-backed Cannabis 2.0 drink could send ACB to the moon.
What’s more, what if CCO Battley only moved out of Aurora (and into an Aurora subsidiary) to make way for a Coke representative ahead of a CBD drink deal?
The possibilities are tantalizing, aren’t they?
For an expert’s take on the situation, I reached out to Banyan Hill’s resident pot stocks guru, Anthony Planas. Here’s what he had to say:
I saw it on Reddit. I think it’s BS.
Clearly not the take we anticipated, but it’s a stark reminder that any potential tie-up between Aurora and Coke is purely speculation at this point.
Thank you, Anthony, for bringing us all back to earth on this one.
As it turns out, Anthony was right. Just before Great Stuff hit the presses, Coke issued a statement: “As we have stated many times, we have no plans to enter the CBD market.” Bummer.
Remember, the cannabis sector is quite volatile right at the moment. You need an expert to help guide you through the rumors and speculation. To that end, Anthony and Real Wealth Strategist editor Matt Badiali have come up with five pot stocks you “must own” right now … before more states legalize.

Good: Tesla Smokes $420
It was bound to happen … and when it did, CEO Elon Musk was just itching to make a joke.
On Monday, Tesla Inc. (Nasdaq: TSLA) hit $420 per share. The milestone prompted Musk to tweet out: “Whoa … the stock is so high lol.”
All jokes aside, Tesla is smoking right now. The shares are up a whopping 1,600% since their initial public offering, with optimism over the new Chinese Gigafactory driving bullish sentiment right through that burning Walmart roof.
Analysts are even jumping on board, albeit reluctantly. Today, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives lifted his price target on TSLA to $370 from $270, citing strong demand for the Model 3. While Ives gave a nod to “massive short covering” for Tesla’s recent resurgence, he also pointed out “underlying fundamental improvement” at the company. After all, Tesla turned a surprise profit last quarter.
But the short squeeze story can’t be ignored. Tesla shorts have … well … lost their shorts by betting against the company. And there’s more to come. ShortSqueeze.com reports that 27.5 million TSLA shares remain sold short after a 4% decline in the latest reporting period.
Those remaining 27.5 million shares still account for about 20.5% of Tesla’s total float (or shares available for public trading). With TSLA still climbing, how much longer can these remaining bears hold out before they’re forced to buy as well?
Better: Riveting Competition
When Tesla unveiled its new Cybertruck, the internet had a field day making fun of the “truck’s” odd design features. Not since the Pontiac Aztek have we seen a vehicle so, well … ugly.
With so few true competitors, it looked like energy-conscious truck enthusiasts (yes, they do exist) were stuck driving a truck designed by a six-year-old. That is, until Rivian secured a massive amount of funding.
Rivian is an electric vehicle startup that’s drawn considerable interest from backers as of late, especially after Tesla’s Cybertruck made its debut. Rivian’s trucks and SUVs look more like traditional vehicles than anything Tesla makes, providing a level of confidence to key backers.
So much so that the company announced it raked in $1.3 billion in funding in its latest investment drive — its largest to date. Big names are lining up behind Rivian, including Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) and Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN).
Rivian is expected to start delivering trucks and SUVs next year. Are we witnessing the emergence of a true competitor in the electric vehicle market?
Best: Breaking Records
I honestly don’t know why more people don’t shop online during the holiday season … or at any point during the year, for that matter. It’s like y’all didn’t get the memo: You don’t have to fight hordes of people to buy things anymore.
This year, online shopping saw more converts than ever. According to data from Mastercard, e-commerce sales surged to a record high, rising 18.8% from 2018 to account for 14.6% of total retail sales in the U.S.
Naturally, the big winner here is Amazon. The e-commerce giant said this past holiday shopping season was “record-breaking.” The company reported 5 million new Prime subscriptions (free trial and paid). What’s more, traffic at Amazon pickup points was up 60% year over year.
Here’s the surprising thing: Amazon stock is actually down more than 6% in the past six months. The shares lag the S&P 500 Index by about 8% for the past 12 months.
So, what gives? Amazon’s spending spree, that’s what. After the company posted its first profit drop in two years back in October, investors have been reluctant to push AMZN higher.
That’s a mistake. Amazon has proven time and time again that it knows how to invest in itself. This latest spending round was on one-day shipping and content for Prime TV. These investments will pay for themselves. We’ll see proof of that in Amazon’s holiday quarter earnings report.
Before I sign off and try to steal another Hawaiian roll — the King’s Hawaiian ones are OK, but homemade rolls help me feast like an emperor — it’s time for a helping of Reader Feedback.
But Great Stuff, you didn’t even ask us for any feedback this week!
No, but “readers gonna read” … and write in.
And I’m grateful for all the feedback and comments you send in.
This week, y’all got personal with the questions. The holidays bring out all kinds of folks. (Especially out on the roads by me … jeez, how many of you really went last-minute with the shopping?)
So, I thought it’d be a wholesome, festive Kodak moment to respond to some of your questions about the great stuff behind Great Stuff.
Brian E. asked:
When and why did you get into trading? I’m trying to convince my son to turn off Counter-Strike and start investing. Any advice?
Well, Brian, at least it’s Counter-Strike and not Fortnite. I don’t have the … umm … poetic license here at Great Stuff to tell you how I truly feel about Fortnite.
As a lifelong video game fan, I initially saw trading as yet another type of “game” to master. It was a challenge. With the right knowledge, I too could win this game played by billionaires.
Yes, I was young and naïve, but I never shrank from that challenge. To this day, I continue to search for that edge — that “cheat code,” if you will — that will help me (and now you) make it big.
Gwenn M. wanted to know:
Your movie references are all over the place (in the best way)! Any one favorite?
As you know, Gwenn, I have an affinity for ’80s movies — everything from Top Gun and E.T. to Indiana Jones and anything made by the great John Hughes. I also have a big weak spot for Monty Python and dry British humor.
But my real favorite, the pièce de résistance, is Star Wars. The Empire Strikes Back was the first movie I ever saw in a theater. It was a masterpiece. So, for better or for worse, Great Stuff readers get more Star Wars memes than any other.
I have spoken.
Short and sweet, Suze said:
Do you have a quote you live by?
Suze, there are, in fact, three quotes that I live by … one for investing in the market and two for life.
For the market, I live by the words of John Maynard Keynes: “Markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.”
For life, my favorite is by Robin William’s character, John Keating, in Dead Poets Society: “But only in their dreams can men be truly free. ‘Twas always thus, and always thus will be.”
But equally important is one my grandfather told me jokingly decades ago: “Don’t sweat the petty things, and don’t pet the sweaty things.”
I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those quotes.
And on that note, you can look forward to more meme-fueled festivities tomorrow.
Until next time, good trading!

Indian Elections: Kashmir Votes | The Diplomat
Last 7 days on April 11, India commenced its thirty day period-prolonged nationwide election approach, with distinct pieces of the nation voting in 7 phases for the decreased home of the Indian parliament, the Lok Sabha. In the Kashmir Valley, elections are being held in 5 phases, with north Kashmir’s Baramulla voting on April 11 and Srinagar on April 18. Voter turnout in each the constituencies different among common to moderate — 34.7 per cent in Baramulla and 14.8 per cent in Srinagar.
In point, this voter turnout was a lot much better than through the 2017 by-elections for Srinagar constituency, when an abysmal 7 p.c turnout was witnessed amid violent protests. That poor voter turnout and violence resulted in an indefinite suspending of by-elections for the Anantnag constituency in south Kashmir – in the end, the polls by no means took place. It will be a larger obstacle for the authorities to conduct elections peacefully for Anantang’s seat on April 23, April 29, and May 6. It will also be a litmus examination for mainstream get-togethers in Kashmir, this sort of as the Nationwide Convention (NC) and the People’s Democratic Celebration (PDP).
Considering the fact that 2016, Anantnag has been the hub of protests, with virtually each day occurrences of anti-India road protests and violence. Whilst it might show up business as standard in the town, underneath the area there is evident anger amongst the locals from the central authorities led by the Bharatiya Janata Bash (BJP) and the previous condition government, an alliance in between the BJP and PDP led by then-Main Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Having fun with this report? Click on below to subscribe for complete entry. Just $5 a thirty day period.
In 2017, when by-elections experienced been scheduled for Anantnag, PDP experienced fielded Tasaduq Mufti, brother of Mehbooba Mufti. But this time the social gathering is taking no probabilities and has fielded Ms. Mufti herself as the applicant. Her principal obstacle is to restore the PDP’s reliability in her residence constituency.
In 2014, for the duration of the condition assembly election marketing campaign, the PDP had campaigned to block Kashmir’s doors for the BJP. On the other hand, put up-election, the get together supremo Mufti Mohammed Sayeed confirmed no hesitation in carrying out a U-turn and rapidly joined palms with the BJP. When Mehbooba Mufti took above the reins of the PDP soon after Sayeed’s dying, she also ongoing the alliance, earning her heaps of criticism. The coalition with BJP resulted in the PDP shedding reliability in the Kashmir Valley, and notably angered her assistance base in Anantnag.
“That was the major miscalculation the PDP built. By now, the party has virtually misplaced ground. It is not only the PDP but people in the Valley have dropped religion in the over-all democratic process,” Showkat Bashir, a nearby from South Kashmir, explained to The Diplomat.
Now as she tends to make a whirlwind tour of the villages in Anantang, Mufti’s election marketing campaign has built no bones about how the coalition was an arrangement of political comfort, instead than 1 based on principles. Yet the anger remains. On Monday, April 15, individuals in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag pelted stones on Mufti’s motorcade when she was returning immediately after going to a regional shrine.
Folks even now hold the PDP dependable for Kashmir’s recent precarious scenario. Numerous castigated Mufti for not doing more than enough when her alliance companion, the BJP, dredged up numerous contentious concerns – a beef ban the abrogation of Article content 35A and 370 from the Indian Constitution, which give particular status to Kashmir and the settlement of Hindu refugees in the point out. Numerous say that this divisive agenda of the BJP has polarized the point out of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing to the forefront the state’s regional fault lines – a Hindu greater part Jammu, a Buddhist the vast majority Ladakh, and Muslim bulk Kashmir Valley – every with competing regional aspirations.
It is an issue that resonates with everyday Kashmiris. Ghulam Nabi Malik, a chief of the Communist Social gathering of India (Marxist), in a statement claimed that “Like the rest of the region, the BJP polarised J&K also for its petty electoral gains. Violence has greater manifold, whilst the social material of the point out is in tatters.”
Pertinently, elections are having area in Kashmir when the protection problem in the location is at a significant instant, specifically just after the deadly suicide bombing in Lethpora, Pulwama on February 14. That attack specific a Central Reserve Paramilitary Pressure convoy and killed above 40 personnel. It was the deadliest terrorist assault on the Indian security forces in decades and sparked a close to-military confrontation amongst India and Pakistan, an intensified crackdown on militants and their supporters in Kashmir Valley, and provoked a wave of specific assaults versus Kashmiris in other components of India.
Nervous to keep away from a repetition of the Pulwama assault, which can likely induce intense electoral backlash, authorities have left practically nothing to chance in Kashmir. As portion of the improved safety steps, not long ago the state authorities barred civilian site visitors two times a week — Wednesdays and Sundays — until May perhaps 31, with motion staying authorized only for the stability forces. In the many years-lengthy conflict, it is the very first time that this kind of purchase banning civilian motion has been imposed. As anticipated, this buy has sparked uproar in the Valley, with lots of criticizing the go and attributing it as one particular a lot more cause for the alienation of the Kashmiris.
This has inconvenienced a lot of locals like personal and federal government workers, college students, individuals, and businessmen, who rely on the highway for vacation to numerous areas of the valley.
“We are dealing with challenges thanks to the highway closure as we utilized to go home on weekends. Also numerous much less college students attend courses on Wednesdays as they commute everyday to university,” Yasir Somewhat, a student from Anantnag, told The Diplomat.
Not too long ago a video surfaced on social media in which an ambulance was allegedly forced to hold out to permit the  passage of security vehicles. As for each studies, the client inside, who was on oxygen, was saved waiting around for 30 minutes.
“The closure of the highway is part of militarization in Kashmir. This is not normal in any working democracy. The nearby federal government does not have energy about safety but there will be impact to some extent on these kinds of orders,” Noor Ahmad Baba, a political scientist, advised The Diplomat.
Opposition politicians have also condemned the move. “Security of the forces is paramount but at the identical time site visitors in between Kashmir and Jammu is equally critical. I believe the governing administration need to have observed a resolution like half working day utilization of road for both in its place of totally shutting it down for two days in a week,” claimed Ghulam Nabi Azad, a senior Congress politician and previous chief minister.
Meanwhile, submit-Pulwama militants have kept up with their things to do, displaying no signs of retaining a low profile. They have warned locals from participating in the elections. In separate audio messages from two militant outfits running in Kashmir, Hizbul Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoo and Zakir Musa of Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind have urged Kashmiris to boycott the elections. Even so, this reporter could not independently confirm the authenticity of the movies. Terming voters as “traitors,” Naikoo can be heard stating, “Anyone who casts a vote will improve India’s keep on Jammu and Kashmir.” He termed the politicians as “Indian brokers,” stating that “politicians converse the language of New Delhi when in energy but talk the language of Kashmiri folks when out of power.”
With New Delhi in the driver’s seat of Kashmir’s affairs, numerous are eagerly searching ahead to the state assembly elections, which are anticipated to be held in the subsequent two to 3 months. Whichever the end result of upcoming elections could be, it will be some time prior to normalcy returns to Kashmir.

Chinese tech giant Tencent has a two-word pitch to bring Western brands to its platform
This is a portion of an article based on an interview with Tencent's Steven Chang. To read the full article, sign up for access to BI Intelligence.
Tencent is staking its claim as the main gateway into China for Western brands. The tech giant recently opened up its advertising tools to marketers in the US — building a bridge between the world’s largest and second-largest advertising markets, and giving brands new abilities to reach Chinese audiences across its marquee messaging apps, WeChat and QQ.
To make its case to global brands and marketers, Tencent attended Advertising Week New York, the ad-industry summit held every fall, for the first time this year. BI Intelligence sat down with Steven Chang, Corporate Vice President at Tencent Online Media Group (OMG), to discuss his company's strategy for attracting brands to its platforms.
According to Steven, Tencent’s strategy can be summarized in two words:
1. "Connector" — of people and businesses in China
A self-described platform with “social as its DNA,” Tencent owns China’s top instant messaging and social networks — WeChat (or Weixin, as it’s known locally) and QQ, which have 968 million and 850 million monthly users, respectively. WeChat alone had 877 million daily users in June 2017, and 10 million Official Accounts, which are akin to Facebook business Pages, at the end of 2016.
Each of these apps, but especially WeChat, functions as a nexus of internet activity in China, connecting people with one another, as well as with online and offline services. These apps' user numbers dwarf the next biggest social platform in the country, Sina Weibo, which counted 367 million monthly users at the end of Q2 2017.
Tencent is also behind China’s second-biggest online payments platform, Tenpay, and is the biggest shareholder in the country’s second-largest online retailer, JD.com.
2. "Content" — an ecosystem to draw and retain users
Tencent’s other competitive advantage is the breadth of content and intellectual property (IP) featured across its apps. It's the largest online gaming company in the world by revenue. Tencent News leads the industry in China in terms of daily users. Tencent Video ranks first in China in terms of mobile video views. And Tencent Literature, its platform for online reading, counted roughly 2.5 million daily paying readers at the end of 2016.
The company also held 77% of the Chinese music streaming market at the start of 2017 through its three streaming services QQ Music, Kuwo, and Kugou. In the broadcasting space, Tencent NBA reached 370 million unique users in the 2016-2017 season, with over 100 million tuning in for live games. At the end of the season, Tencent's NBA Finals broadcast attracted more than 175 million people — a world record for live streaming viewership online.
Tencent's portfolio of content allows it to experiment with IP and create custom and bespoke brand campaigns. The company can take a successful piece of content from any of its categories and spin it off, like taking a popular game and translating into a movie or TV show, for instance. This opens the door for brand integrations, product placements, and other forms of native advertising within Tencent's content ecosystem.
Reach in China and Beyond
Altogether, Tencent apps reach 98% of Chinese netizens and account for 55% of mobile time spent online. WeChat accounts for 30% of total mobile time spent online in China — the most of any single Chinese tech platform by a long shot — but it would be remiss to not mention the popularity of other Tencent-owned apps. The karaoke app WeSing (Quanmin K Ge) had 460 million registered users in August 2017, 76% of which were monthly users, and the mobile gaming sensation Honor of Kings boasted 200 million players — 55 million played the game daily, and 45% of all players were female.
Tencent can also lead brands toward some 135 million Chinese users outside of China. The company recently began the first phase of its international rollout of Moments ads, which are similar to Facebook News Feed ads, giving global brands the power to target outbound Chinese tourists and expatriates. China has been the world's largest outbound tourism market since 2012: Last year, its international tourism expenditure increased by $11 billion to reach $261 billion, and the number of outbound travelers increased by 6% to 135 million, per the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
Because its nucleus is in social networking, Tencent arguably offers the strongest combination of “connection” and “content” among any of the big Chinese tech companies. This is unlike Baidu, whose core product is a search engine, or Alibaba, whose specialty is online retail. Yet, when it comes to advertising revenue, Tencent still trails its local rivals and, further in the distance, global advertising juggernauts Facebook and Google. However, with approximately $188 billion expected to pour into digital advertising globally this year, focusing on attracting international brand spending can help Tencent make up the gap.

Photo-realistic renderings of the proposed home by London-based designer James Whitaker is going to be built in the Californian desert out of white cargo containers and the internet is already obsessed with them. More images at Dezeen. (via Dezeen)
A good story about architect Eero Saarinen’s ties to Michigan, a place that allowed him to experiment:
After high school, Saarinen studied sculpture at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris before graduating from the Yale School of Architecture, where he excelled with the traditional Beaux-Arts curriculum. When Saarinen returned to Cranbrook in between school breaks and later in his 20s, he stayed in an upstairs bedroom at the Saarinen House. Even as Eliel Saarinen served as president of the Cranbrook Academy of Art from 1932 to 1946 and was its resident architect, Eero Saarinen began entering into architectural competitions with him in the late 1930s.
As I walked back downstairs, I recalled a framed photo of the Gothic-inpired design that Eliel Saarinen submitted for the Chicago Tribune competition that I had seen in the house earlier. In many ways, the Saarinen House represented the transition from Eliel’s genius to Eero’s distinct design skills. It was almost as if the creative energy in the Cranbrook community catapulted Eero Saarinen to greatness, evidenced by his early influences in the family home.
The Huntington Museum published this video about a very rare Tiffany (only three example are known to survive), which was inspired by a trip to Bermuda:
Banksy’s “Snorting Copper” is back on the street but there are questions about its reappearance, including:
Jet washed, painted over and attacked by thieves, Banksy’s Snorting Copper artwork in London’s Shoreditch had been thought lost forever. So just how has the £1m piece been brought back into public view – and is it still “a Banksy” at all after so much restoration work?
The science behind our experience of architecture, as explained by Paul Goldberger:
This doesn’t mean that Goldhagen is willing to let architects have their way with the world. She comes down as hard as anyone on Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind, for example, much of whose work is known for the same sharp angles and clashing lines that provoked her ire with Nouvel’s pavilion. She is unsparing when it comes to those buildings that she believes cause discomfort because of their neurological effects, stating: “Humans respond to compositions dominated by sharp, irregular, angled forms with discomfort, even fear.” But she looks kindly on the “lilting forms” of Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, a swooping, curving building that she describes as a place in which “the human body’s presence and movement in space [are] the animating features in a design.” She sees, correctly, that Gehry’s unusual forms are driven not by a desire to shock, but by a wish to find new ways to elicit a sense of pleasure.
What’s the biggest question facing artist today? The Guardian asked a number of artists and my favorite reply is by artist Jeremy Deller:
“WTF?” That’s the question facing artists today.
A new online resource maps the LGBTQ history of St. Louis, and it includes a section on the impact of segregation, policing of LGBTQ communities, and the history of political activism.
Even Pokémon Go was used in an “extensive Russian-linked meddling effort“:
To date, Facebook has said that it identified 470 accounts linked to the Internet Research Agency, while Twitter has identified 201 accounts. Google has not released its findings, though CNN has confirmed that the company has identified tens of thousands of dollars spent on ad buys by Russian accounts.
Facebook and Twitter have submitted detailed records of their findings to both Congress and the office of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is conducting an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential campaign.
On Friday, Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, made her displeasure with this story clear in a Facebook post written in Russian, calling CNN a “talentless television channel” and saying,”Again the Russians are to blame… and the Pokémons they control.”
Eminem goes after President Trump in his latest rhyme:
Why does this matter? The New York Times explains:
The fact of Eminem’s whiteness, though, also means that he reaches a different listener. A recent Times article that looked at music fandom across the country noted that his base is “strongest in whiter and more rural places: West Virginia; southern Ohio; eastern Kentucky; deep north Maine; the Ozarks in Missouri; across the Great Plains.”

Not totally sure how rap battles work, but I believe Eminem is now the President of the United States of America.

If you’re old you remember AIM (AOL’s instant messenger service), and — hate to break it to you but … — now it’s dead:
We made our first attempts, on AIM, of transfiguring our mysterious and unpredictable thoughts into lively and personable textual performances. We were witty and dramatic. We invented our online selves—we invented ourselves.
We got bored. Myspace and Xanga helped us set up temporary and ramshackle museums of our tastes. Then Facebook came along, with all the frisson of “only college students use it,” and we drifted there. Its pseudo-maturity and time-delayed interactions allured us. Our AIM status messages went to Facebook instead: It was where we mourned the end of the field-hockey season or the final showing of the winter musical. We posted photos of each other on Facebook and liked them and commented on them—but sometimes still chatted about them on AIM. We asked homework questions via each other’s walls. We wrote subtweety openings as our Facebook status, hoping our crush would comment there instead. Eventually Facebook had its own chat product too, and it made more sense to use that, or Gchat, or to just text.
It’s not every day the world discovers a species thought to be extinct, and this time it’s the “tree lobster” (via Boing Boing):
When black rats were accidentally introduced to the island by a shipwreck in 1918, 600 kilometres (370 miles) off the east coast of Australia, they devastated the population of the phasmid, Dryococelus australis.
The rats were a disaster. They wiped out several native species – five birds, two plants and 13 invertebrates (including D. australis) – not found anywhere else in the world.
But in the 1960s, rock climbers on Ball’s Pyramid, a volcanic stack 20 kilometres (12 miles) southeast of the island, made an exciting discovery: a collection of fresh insect corpses that seemed to be the stick insect.
But they didn’t look like specimens recovered from Lord Howe Island, as seen in the image below (the Ball’s Pyramid insect is on the right), so the species was officially declared extinct in 1986.
Academics are for sale to the CIA, and this article goes into details (and lest we forget art historian Anthony Blunt was a Soviet spy):
More than any other academic arena, conferences lend themselves to espionage. Assisted by globalisation, these social and intellectual rituals have become ubiquitous. Like stops on the world golf or tennis circuits, they sprout up wherever the climate is favourable, and draw a jet-setting crowd. What they lack in prize money, they make up for in prestige. Although researchers chat electronically all the time, virtual meetings are no substitute for getting together with peers, networking for jobs, checking out the latest gadgets and delivering papers that will later be published in volumes of conference proceedings. “The attraction of the conference circuit,” English novelist David Lodge wrote in Small World, his 1984 send-up of academic life, is that “it’s a way of converting work into play, combining professionalism with tourism, and all at someone else’s expense. Write a paper and see the world!”
The importance of a conference may be measured not just by the number of Nobel prize-winners or Oxford dons it attracts, but by the number of spies. US and foreign intelligence officers flock to conferences for the same reason that army recruiters concentrate on low-income neighbourhoods: they make the best hunting grounds. While a university campus might have only one or two professors of interest to an intelligence service, the right conference – on drone technology, perhaps, or Isis – could have dozens.
“Every intelligence service in the world works conferences, sponsors conferences, and looks for ways to get people to conferences,” said one former CIA operative.
Every wonder how tax cuts help the rich? This Vox video tells you:
Some random guy on Facebook tried to mansplain the costumes of Indiana Jones to this woman not realizing she was the movie’s costume designer. Priceless:
HOLY FUCKING SHIT dude online tries to mainsplain the costumes of Indiana Jones to my mom… …the costume designer of Indiana Jones. http://pic.twitter.com/bkYVtsnYPF

Tencent's strategy to attract Western brands to its platform
This is a portion of an article based on an interview with Tencent's Steven Chang. To read the full article, sign up for access to BI Intelligence.
BI Intelligence
Chinese tech giant Tencent is staking its claim as the main gateway into China for Western brands. The company recently opened up its advertising tools to brands in the US — bridging the world’s largest and second-largest advertising markets, and equipping brands with new abilities to reach Chinese audiences on its marquee messaging apps WeChat and QQ.
BI Intelligence
Tencent's immense content portfolio allows it to experiment with IP and create custom and bespoke brand campaigns. The company can take a successful piece of content from any of its categories and spin it off, like taking a popular game and translating into a movie or TV show, for instance. This opens the door for brand integrations, product placements, and other forms of native advertising within Tencent's content ecosystem.
BI Intelligence
Reach In and Beyond China
BI Intelligence
Because its nucleus is in social networking, Tencent arguably offers the strongest combination of “connection” and “content” among any of the big Chinese tech companies. This is unlike Baidu, whose core product is a search engine, or Alibaba, whose specialty is online retail. Yet, when it comes to advertising revenue, Tencent still trails its local rivals and, further in the distance, global advertising juggernauts Facebook and Google. However, with approximately $188 billion expected to pour into digital advertising globally this year, per GroupM, focusing on attracting international brand spending can help Tencent make up the gap.
