can I get your opinion on rachelhanke27's art on twitter? her ember fanart came up, and I can't help but see the guy from cast in firelight. And looking at her work, I can't decide if she's trying to emulate b*water's art, or flat-out traced over it

I need everyone to pay attention to the signatures. And well. They’re not *tracing* because if they were there would be Many Things about their art that would be significantly improved. But it’s pretty clear they’ve based their entire artistic persona and style on Bowater, to put it mildly. Unfortunately, even moreso than Gabriella Bujdoso, they simply do not have the skill to pull off being a Bowater clone 🙃
But hey, they do have one thing going for them! Which is that the characters don’t look like literal siblings

Art print of Nahri and Dara as Persephone and Hades, as part of Fae Crate's 2020 monthly Olympian-themed art. Drawn by Gabriella Bujdoso, with input from the author S. A. Chakraborty.
(original version under the cut for those interested in comparing/contrasting)

Normally I wouldn't do this, but I think it's worth seeing exactly what changed once the author got involved. Aside from the obvious skintone changes and the inclusion of Dara's shirt and beard, other changes include: their hair texture, the shortening of Nahri's braid, the downward point of Nahri's nose, and the sharpening of her jawline.
