I think when people say "there wasn't anything I could do there" in a game, they're almost always wrong. What they actually mean is usually "I couldn't figure out what to do there" or "there wasn't anything I was willing to do there."

The first is pretty straightforward - most games are deeper than most players expect, and they only perceive part of the larger decision-tree, so they can't effectively determine where their errors were and how to fix them (otherwise they wouldn't have made them). This is what the kids call a skill issue, and failing to realize that inhibits your ability to get better.

But there's also the latter, the question of whether or not you are willing to adapt your own playstyle to a specific meta - are you willing to resort to stalling tactics, to underhanded tricks, to glitch exploitation? This is much less straightforward. If you focus on winning at the expense of everything, you can have a lot less fun and also alienate the people you play with. (Cheating is the ultimate example of this, and it sucks.)

But there are also cases where those limitations are self-imposed, where if you were willing to learn to do something different, you wouldn't make your friends hate you or ruin your own experience, you would just... win more. This, too, is worth considering.

GSL Super Tournament #2 and WCS World Finals @ Blizzcon

As many of you might be aware, today are the GSL Super Tournament #2 qualifiers. This is an extremely important day, as its the last big SC2 tournament for Korea currently scheduled this year, and will decide the last 2 spots at the World Championships for the Koreans.

Here’s the points breakdown for ST#2:

1st - 1,500 points

2nd - 1,050 points

3rd/4th - 675 points

5th-8th - 450 points

9th-16th - 225 points

Home stretch for herO:

If herO qualifies for ST#2, he is almost 100% locked for Blizzcon. ByuN would have to get 1st place and sOs 2nd place, specifically, to knock him out of contention.

sOs is pre-qualified for ST#2:

EDIT: Apparently sOs doesn’t get the 225 because of the invite, but he is still in the ro16.

OK! That about does it. I’ll give a full update when the qualifiers are over and the bracket is drawn as to each and every scenario for whoever is left over.
