Where do the years go? The first is the hobby of a bored teenager replaying childhood games while seeking comfort. The second is spent finding new friends who share the same interests. The third wants to grow, but from a clean slate. The fourth wonders if the risk was worth it. The fifth struggles with life choices, seeking comfort from what is now a long-term project. The sixth is spent mourning the loss of a parent. The seventh begins to pick up the pieces, and the eighth begins to flourish. The ninth marks the beginning of a new stability and the tenth... I realize I'm no longer young enough to pretzel my body in my chair without consequences.

There's not much new to say about what On Borrowed Time means to me that I didn't already say in the 9th anniversary piece, but I continue to be grateful about what this silly little fanfiction has brought to me over the years. To readers old and new, I'm excited to continue this journey with you! Let's just hope it doesn't take another 10 years, haha

Question for Rune:

How do you take out and take care of your never-melt earnings? I'm just curious because the build of your paws look like they might get in the way (no thumbs).

Rune: ... I'm supposed to take them out?

Yohann: Ew-! What?! You haven't cleaned them a single time?!

Rune: It's news to me! I thought piercings just kinda... stayed there?

Yohann: So you let them get infected and never thought to take them out? I gave you instructions right after piercing them!

Rune: I thought that was for if they got infected! Which they didn't?? They just got really sore and red for a few days after you pierced them, but I figured that's because there was a big hole in my ears. They're fine now.

Yohann: That's what an infection is!!

Inigo: Sure. His name was Excalibur. He had a little white spot on his head, and because of that Dielle would call him bald.

To Yohann/Keaton: Keaton and Yohann, I've heard you two are going out on dates together... I guess you can say birds of a feather stick together?

Keaton: Well now I'm reconsidering it, if I have to hear that over and over for the rest of my life.

Yohann: The rest of your life? My my, someone's thinking ahead.

Keaton: Wh- I was certainly not implying that!

So we know when two pokemon of different species create an egg, the child's species is either one of the parents, with traits of the other. What if two hybrid pokemon of completely differing species created an egg? Would the kid just get the traits of the base species of the parents, or is it a mish-mash of all the 4 potential pokemon traits involved?

// gonna answer this one ooc for the most straightforward answer, but the short version is: all of those traits would be in the mixing pot, so pretty much any combo from the pokemon's heritage is possible! the highest probability of passing on would be something from the base species of each parent- true hybrids would be exceptionally rare in OBT. but it's not unheard of for offspring to receive traits (or even species) from a grandparent or distant relative.

for purposes of simplicity within the comic itself, I try to mostly keep inherited traits within a single generation (or in the case of the guildmaster, he has some traits inherited from different species of grandparents while both of his own parents are wigglytuff). of course that's just my preference for storytelling specifically, and I think things could get real funky within the world of OBT!

Rune: I think she would, but alas... she'd accidentally eat me thinking I was merely a tasty snack on the ground.

Dielle: That was one time!! It's not my fault it looked just like a Gummi!

To Inigo or Dielle: How did Moxie and Charlotte first meet?

Inigo: Uhh... Hm. I actually don't know.

Dielle: I do! They met when Charlotte moved into Treasure Town to carry on her family's storage facility business. Charlotte caught Moxie staring at her through some bushes, and she gave her an earful about trying to sneak around her like a creep. They became friends over time!

Is it possible for a Pokemon Egg to survive for several years without hatching? For example, if the Egg gets burried Underground, can it survive down there for years until someone could possible find it there? Or would the Aura just disolve after a while inside the Egg?

Dielle: Totally possible! As long as the egg's shell isn't damaged, it can lay dormant for a long time. My dad mentioned that my egg didn't hatch for a long time, I think it was a year or two?

Malachi: Oh, oh! Can you imagine if there were pokemon species lost to time, but their eggs are still out there, hidden away? Imagine the possibilities!

What would team Maelstrom's reactions be to seeing human Rune for the first time?

Inigo: I'd say "whoa cool, a human" or something. I dunno.

Malachi: In this theoretical, are we seeing a picture of her as a human? Or just her actually being a human? If it were the latter it'd probably be a lot more shocking.

Dielle: I've only ever known her as a pokemon, but even if she turned back into an animal I'd still care about her.

Malachi, how's life with a roommate?

Malachi: I wish she'd talk to me again...

Malachi: Oh, er, you meant Rune, didn't you? I like the company! It feels more like I'm living with a big sister than anything else. She helps with chores... and sometimes nags me about doing mine. Sometimes I'll forget to put up the rain shield before leaving for a job, but she'll get it done in my place! And there are times where she'll ask if I can spend the night at the dojo or Yohann's place... or she'll send Inigo over here instead. I don't really know what she and Dielle do during their time alone.
