it's been said before but i think daenerys' fucked up behaviour towards irri bears a closer examination
Dany knew her face was flushed, but in the darkness Irri surely could not tell. Wordless, the handmaid put a hand on her breast, then bent to take a nipple in her mouth. Her other hand drifted down across the soft curve of belly, through the mound of fine silvery-gold hair, and went to work between Dany's thighs. [...] Irri never said a thing, only curled back up and went back to sleep the instant the thing was done. The next day, it all seemed a dream.
(ASOS, Daenerys II)
okay, that's... kinda jarring. what just happened? what exactly is the consent situation here?
"Should I pleasure the khaleesi?" Dany stepped away from her. "No. Irri, you do not need to do that. What happened that night, when you woke . . . you're no bed slave, I freed you, remember? You . . ." "I am handmaid to the Mother of Dragons," the girl said. "It is great honor to please my khaleesi."
(ASOS, Daenerys II)
oh, okay. daenerys uses irri for sexual gratification and irri goes along with it because... right, because in her """savage nomad culture""", sexual servitude to a ruler is an honour. right. okay. wonderful.
this whole thing is so icky not just because it casts daenerys in a terrible light but because it regurgitates the racist tones re: dothraki that so many people have pointed out already
and what makes it even more egregious is that i'm pretty sure grrm doesn't expect us to read this as a heinous offence on daenaerys' part. which, in turn, casts the terrible light from daenerys to grrm

Fat tip number 14: finding clothes as a growing t-girl?
Now, most tall tans women have probably ran into this problem before growing out our curves. You're scrolling through sites hunting for some cute or spicy to wear, and just when you through, you found the one. It's 2 sizes too small. It is a frustrating factor for women who are already tall, but there are some great places to go and find clothes that can fit you.
Easily the best place to conveniently shop at is Amazon, with a wide range of styles and affordable clothing. For those who just need new clothes quickly, I would recommend scrolling through there.
For an even cheaper option, ASOS is considered a much more ethical version of shein, exceptional for tall girls on a budget.
A local option for yall is target, especially for pants, I haven't had much trouble finding pants or shots that fit me even as 6ft t-girl!
And of course, you can look up specialty tailors who can make things fit just right for you. But this is the most expensive option, so if you got a lot of money to spend I highly recommend getting some custom outfits 👌
As always don't be discouraged if you can't find clothes quickly, it's just appart of the process of growing~

Jon has compared his love interest to Arya four times now.
Jon could see fear and fire in her eyes. Blood ran down her white throat from where the point of his dirk had pricked her. One thrust and it's done, he told himself. He was so close he could smell onion on her breath. She is no older than I am. Something about her made him think of Arya, though they looked nothing at all alike. "Will you yield?" he asked, giving the dirk a half turn. And if she doesn't? Ygritte watched and said nothing. She was older than he'd thought at first, Jon realized; maybe as old as twenty, but short for her age, bandy-legged, with a round face, small hands, and a pug nose. Her shaggy mop of red hair stuck out in all directions. She looked plump as she crouched there, but most of that was layers of fur and wool and leather. Underneath all that she could be as skinny as Arya.
- Jon VI, ACoK
Ygritte trotted beside Jon as he slowed his garron to a walk. She claimed to be three years older than him, though she stood half a foot shorter; however old she might be, the girl was a tough little thing. Stonesnake had called her a "spearwife" when they'd captured her in the Skirling Pass. She wasn't wed and her weapon of choice was a short curved bow of horn and weirwood, but "spearwife" fit her all the same. She reminded him a little of his sister Arya, though Arya was younger and probably skinnier. It was hard to tell how plump or thin Ygritte might be, with all the furs or skins she wore.
- Jon II, ASoS
"If you kill a man, and never mean t', he's just as dead," Ygritte said stubbornly. Jon had never met anyone so stubborn, except maybe for his little sister Arya. Is she still my sister? he wondered. Was she ever? He had never truly been a Stark, only Lord Eddard's motherless bastard, with no more place at Winterfell than Theon Greyjoy. And even that he'd lost. When a man of the Night's Watch said his words, he put aside his old family and joined a new one, but Jon Snow had lost those brothers too.
- Jon III, ASoS
And people say Jonrya has no merit 🤣

Weirwood bows (Arya's future weapon?)
First, I want to clarify that the theory I'm going to write about isn't one I consider very possible to happen. Still, since I'm tired talking over the same subjects on asoiaf, I decided to have some harmless fun by letting my imagination run wild with speculating about it.
On one of Bran chapters in AGOT, we find out that the children of the forest used bows made of weirwood in order to hunt. Back then, the children of the forest were part of the long past, only existing in Maester Luwin's history lessons.
Later on, we find that they still exist as Bran encounters them on his travel beyond the Wall. Also, on Jon's chapters we learn that free folk also uses weirwood bows (alongside with weirwood spears).
Here comes the wild speculation part.Arya has expressed more than one her desire to learn how to shoot arrows.
There were a dozen steps between the archer and the point of her sword. We have no chance, Arya realized, wishing she had a bow like his, and the skill to use it.
ASOS, ARYA II
Anguy smiled over his ale. "When I don't fancy a man's eyes, I put an arrow through one." Arya remembered the shaft that had brushed by her ear. She wished she knew how to shoot arrows.
ASOS, ARYA II
Anguy had arrows tipped with bodkins as well as broadheads. A bodkin could pierce even heavy plate. I'm going to learn to shoot a bow, Arya thought. She loved swordfighting, but she could see how arrows were good too.
ASOS, ARYA VII
So, what if one day - after she learned the essential arrow skills- she obtained a bow made of weirwood; the tree which plays a crucial role to Northern religion and it's linked with various magic elements.
During her time with the Brotherhood without Banners, Anguy tried to teach her how to shoot arrows but it wasn't successful. Still, instead of altogether dismissing the possibility she could learn that skill, he simply said she needed a different type of bow:
Anguy let Arya try his longbow, but no matter how hard she bit her lip she could not draw it. "You need a lighter bow, milady," the freckled bowman said. "If there's seasoned wood at Riverrun, might be I'll make you one."
ASOS, ARYA IV
When Arya returns to Westeros, I do believe that she will meet the BwB again so perhaps this time Anguy can properly teach her, and she could obtain a weirwood bow one day.
I'm not saying this is going to happen within the asoiaf series. Martin already gave her character a weapon (Needle) in case she needs to defend herself so he might not feel the need to show her obtaining another fighting skills & weapon. But since I believe that Arya will live a long life post the end of the series, she could find time to learn to shoot arrows later on. Maybe, she can ask her oldest brother, Jon, to teach her. He has the skill and I doubt he would deny Arya a skill that would increase her changes of survival.
Speaking of him, it's interesting that he compares Arya to Ygritte right after he mention that the latter uses a bow made out of weirwood:
Stonesnake had called her a "spearwife" when they'd captured her in the Skirling Pass. She wasn't wed and her weapon of choice was a short curved bow of horn and weirwood, but "spearwife" fit her all the same. She reminded him a little of his sister Arya, though Arya was younger and probably skinnier.
ASOS, JON II
Finally, I wanted to say that on one of Bran's visions we see one of the Stark ancestors using weirwood arrows:
A dark-eyed youth, pale and fierce, sliced three branches off the weirwood and shaped them into arrows
ADWD, BRAN III
I'd love to see Arya using a weapon her ancestors also used, one that it's connected to the magic of the North.

Hi Haitch!
I hope you're doing well ❤️
I have a bit of a possibly weird ask, and if this isn't comfy for you then by all means please skip it! But in reading some of your posts (and the birthing hips Nanami) I'm pretty sure you and I probably have a fairly similar body shape.
I'm 5'10 maybe 5'11, wide hips, shoulders a lot broader than I'd like and they don't feel very feminine, enough boob for probably two women, and I've never really learned how to dress for my shape in a way that's flattering. I usually just dress for comfort, sweatpants and sweatshirts but I know looking good = feeling good and I want to try to make a wardrobe change for my sake.
Do you have favorite outfits (I swear you've mentioned some before)? I'd love if we could see them if that's possible, doesn't have to be worn I'd love to see it even just hung up or laid out to get an idea, or maybe links to items?
Thank you possibly in advance, pseudo-mom 🥹
Hey!!
It definitely sounds like we're not too far off.
So to give context to my outfit choices, I'll describe my size and shape:
5ft 11in, 36HH bra, bust and hips of identical circumference with a waist that's 14 inches narrower, 36 inch long inside leg measurement; so, a shorter, very curvy torso, with long legs. Generous thighs, broad shoulders, not particularly overweight but not slim. Definitely got handfuls of plumpness to squeeze.
When I was younger, I was a lot more self-conscious. I have a tall mother who is more of an athletic build, and was always fatphobic and very openly upset that she had a 'fat' daughter. I was always taught that I needed to dress to cover myself up. It was only really in my early to mid twenties that I saw my curves as something I didn't have to hide.
Because I have several features that aren't particularly catered for in average fashion, I have to get creative. I wear a lot of form fitting, stretchy things. I wear things that can be cinched at the waist or naturally cinch at the waist.
I wear lots of high waisted jeans, form fitting cut-out turtlenecks, tank tops, and oversized coats.
2. I own a huge amount of Doc Martens, boots and shoes.
3. I own a huge amount of coats-- oversized trench coats are my favourite. I often buy mens' ones as they're tall enough for me.
4. Then, for my less form fitting outfits, it tends to be tiny black form fitting miniskirts, with hugely oversized jumpers.
5. I'm either classy, all black, very sleek (glasses chains, and bolo ties), or slightly zany sweaters with cute miniskirts, and big oversized coats.
I've made some 'mood boards' below of outfits I have and love, and wear often. A lot of the items shown are items that I've bought.

I buy a lot of my stuff from ASOS Tall. They also have some really fun Unisex stuff, which is great for the oversized look for me.
I hope this is in any way helpful!
Love,
-- Haitch xxx

The tree line broke around them…and Mat gasped as he took in the sight before him.
A giant stone arm, large as a tower reaching for the heavens, and in its fingers was clasped a massive crystalline sphere that glittered in the morning light. All around it wooden scaffolds were suspended as men worked to hew it from the earth, revealing the bare beginnings of a face- a handsome older man with wise eyes. The workers were dressed in plain grays and browns, swinging heavy pickaxes under the direction of mounted soldiers in mail shirts and curved bell like helmets, some carrying small rectangular flags on their backs. “What on earth…” Mat muttered. Hurin looked equally bewildered, and Loial….unsettled. “Those are the King’s men.” Hurin said, eyeing the soldiers. “That’s the con of House Riatin,” Hurin said, pointing to the banner staffs some of the soldiers carried on their backs. Five red stars across a field of black. The soldiers had not noticed their group yet, but Mat knew that wouldn’t last long. Mat could see the smoke for himself now- a few miles to the south still. Mat suspected Loial had been right- it would be a village, where ovens where being lit for breakfast. “We should circle around and try to find a road.” Mat told the others. There would be one nearby. All these men and these supplies had not traveled cross country. Chances were good this soldiers was based out of that same village. “With luck we can keep south and find directions to the city. What do you think, Rand?” Rand didn’t answer. His eyes were fixed to the great crystal sphere still. His expression was odd and the bond… Mat blinked. The bond had gone…quiet. Not crystalline the way it did when Rand channeled sometimes. Not dull like when he slept. But…quiet. Muted. “Rand?” Mat asked, feeling worry spike in his chest. He reached out a hand to try and touch Rand’s shoulder…and instead Rand kicked Red’s flanks and trotted forward a few steps, to the edge of the small cliff overlooking the dig site. Mat moved Northwind forward to match and reached out, catching hold of Rand’s reins. Rand didn’t even seem to notice him. His eyes were fixed to the sphere. Mat swore he heard a curse from Loial, and soft whimper of terror from Hurin. “Rand.” Mat said, more firmly this time. “Rand, we need to circle around. Those soldiers are going to notice us if we stay out here.” It was a miracle that had not already, with how far out on the ledge Rand had come. Rand didn’t even twitch. His pupils had grown large as he gazed at that sphere, as if he were seeing something in it that Mat could not. “Rand, please. We have to go.“ Mat whispered, his heart hammering in his chest. Surely it couldn’t be this sudden. Surely it wouldn’t just come out of nowhere and overtake him without warning. Light, he hadn’t even channeled today as near as Mat could tell! He couldn’t- The bond flickered suddenly. Shifted. Mat couldn’t describe it any other way. It was just suddenly…different. And when Rand turned to face Mat….Mat didn’t recognize him. The face, the eyes, the mouth- it was all the same. But the expression he was making was alien. It belonged on someone else. “It yet exists.” Rand said and Mat felt the words like grit on his bones. Aso bift d’humat. Rand’s- the stranger’s- gaze swung back to the statue, and he spoke again, almost to himself. “The Choden Kal.” He raised one hand as if he could reach out and lay his fingers on the sphere’s surface. “It yet exists. I could bring her back. With this I could bring them all back. With this I could do anything… ”

Just an observation, because I frequently think there are hints in ASOIAF about cultural origins:
Consider the appearance of the Valyrian Sphinx:
a dragon’s body and a woman’s face (ADWD Tyrion II)
And that of the Ghiscari Harpy:
the wings of a bat or a dragon, her legs were the legs of an eagle, and behind she wore a scorpion’s curled and venomous tail (ASOS Dany II)
Doesn't seem like the same at first, except—wings like a dragon, talons ... like a dragon, long curved tail... like a dragon, perhaps?
Minus the changed interpretation, these are both images of dragon-esque features with a person’s face—a woman's face, even. I think both of these cultural images might have a common source.

It had been so long since he had last seen Arya. What would she look like now? Would he even know her? Arya Underfoot. Her face was always dirty. Would she still have that little sword he'd had Mikken forge for her? Stick them with the pointy end, he'd told her. Wisdom for her wedding night if half of what he heard of Ramsay Snow was true. Bring her home, Mance. I saved your son from Melisandre, and now I am about to save four thousand of your free folk. You owe me this one little girl. (Jon XI, ADwD)
--
"The heart is all that matters. Do not despair, Lord Snow. Despair is a weapon of the enemy, whose name may not be spoken. Your sister is not lost to you."
"I have no sister." The words were knives. What do you know of my heart, priestess? What do you know of my sister?
Melisandre seemed amused. "What is her name, this little sister that you do not have?"
"Arya." His voice was hoarse. "My half-sister, truly..." (Jon VI, ADwD)
--
She wasn't wed and her weapon of choice was a short curved bow of horn and weirwood, but "spearwife" fit her all the same. She reminded him a little of his sister Arya, though Arya was younger and probably skinnier. It was hard to tell how plump or thin Ygritte might be, with all the furs and skins she wore. (Jon II, ASoS)
If this makes you think of a father and daughter-like relationship, I question your judgement lol

"I am Daenerys Stormborn, daughter of dragons, bride of dragons, mother of dragons, don't you see?"- Dany(AGOT X).
"A blue flower grew from a chink in a wall of ice, and filled the air with sweetness. . . . mother of dragons, bride of fire . . ."- Dany(ACOK IV).
"She(Ygritte) wasn't wed and her weapon of choice was a short curved bow of horn and weirwood, but "spearwife" fit her all the same."- Jon(ASOS II).
Another parallel.
Oh shoot, there's a whole thing about characters being married to weapons, but for some reason, I never included spearwife. Nice catch, @please-dot!

When Jon Snow got to know Ygritte in ASOS, he notes that she's similar to his little sister Arya:
She claimed to be three years older than him, though she stood half a foot shorter; however old she might be, the girl was a tough little thing. Stonesnake had called her a "spearwife" when they'd captured her in the Skirling Pass. She wasn't wed and her weapon of choice was a short curved bow of horn and weirwood, but "spearwife" fit her all the same. She reminded him a little of his sister Arya, though Arya was younger and probably skinnier. It was hard to tell how plump or thin Ygritte might be, with all the furs and skins she wore.
ASOS, JON II
It's easy to see the resemblance between those two girls are both are brave, fierce and stubborn.
I've noticed that a certain group of asoiaf fans try to claim that Ygritte is similar to both Stark sisters (Jon's sisters). Usually the point out the scene where Ygritte have tears in her eyes at the end of "The last of the Giants" song.
The thing is, that if Jon truly believed that Ygritte also resembled his other sister because she wept during a song, he would have said so. But he never makes a connection between them (probably because there isn't any connection between those two girls in terms of personality). Instead, he continues to believe that Ygritte is similar to Arya as it's confirmed by his thoughts on the next pov chapter of his:
Jon had never met anyone so stubborn, except maybe for his little sister Arya.
ASOS, JON III.
A fiercy, stubborn girl can also be moved by a song to tears. That doesn't make Ygritte any less brave or strong-willed.
Actually, we do have another girl who was similar to Arya Stark (according even to her closest family members) who was moved to tears during a song: Lyanna Stark.
[In my opinion is so tirisome that for some fans the Stark sisters exist in a dichonomy, to the point that when a character who only shares parallels with only one of them in text does something that doesn't completely allign with the sister they are paralleled with that must mean that they are also paralleling the other Stark girl.]

"He stood with his hands crossed at the wrists, his palms resting on the pommels of his blades; a curving Dothraki arakh on his left hip, a Myrish stiletto on his right. Their hilts were a matched pair of golden women, naked and wanton."- Dany(ASOS iv). "On her prow was a black iron maiden with one arm outstretched. Her waist was slender, her breasts high and proud, her legs long and shapely."- AFFC. Both Euron and Daario has their favorite things with naked women on them.
House Piper of the naked maiden sigil is feeling very very uncomfortable in this company.
