Happy new year!
As 2024 draws to a close, I thought it'd be fun to show some fun statistics about the thousands of posts I've made this year!
Here are the final totals:
Posts cited: 2436/5187 (46.9%)
Total followers: 524 (Thank you!)
#needs-attribution: 265 | #needs-more-info: 48
Posts still queued: 967 (how do I do this to myself...?)
Keep reading for more fun details!
Who's shown up on this blog?
Every cited post has been assigned tags based on their contents, using an auto-tagging system I built a while back. It's helpful if you want to see other posts of the same country, agency, etc. - but it's also great at finding stats like...
Countries
This blog has been quite the world tour! I've mentioned a staggering 58 countries in my posts. But by country, who have I posted about the most?
The top 5: Germany (491), Russia (369), France (321), USA (197), and Ukraine (131).
But enough about me - what did you all think of my posts? This next map is per capita, meaning the average number of notes each country's post got. (Countries with less than 5 posts are set to 0, and my reblogs are excluded.)
A surprising twist - Bulgaria takes top spot with 19.4 notes per capita! While their limited number of posts reveals a flaw in this measurement, the posts that are there really hit it off with the masked men lovers:

If you're curious, the runners up are Finland (14.3), Kosovo (14.1), Serbia (13.4), and France (13.0).
As an aside, I'd like to give a special shout out to the Czech Republic for stumping me the most when trying to cite posts from them. Where do you post your police photos?!?
Agencies
Okay, but which specific units have shown up the most this year?
Just pretend CBRN and K9 are units :)
I guess it's not surprising, but I forgot how much I posted about Germany's SEK! Then, Russian (ОМОН) and French (GIGN, RAID) agencies aren't too far behind.
And what did you think?
French agencies drift to the top. I know some of you reading this really like GIGN, so it makes a ton of sense! PI2G simply ranks first because of their limited number of posts:

But GIGN (and GIPN, FIPN, RAID, CDI, whatever...) also did respectably in the rankings:

GSG-9 also beats the more regional SEK in terms of notes per capita. They might be cooler, but way too many posts claim photos of SEK officers to be GSG-9!!

Dates
Every cited post comes with a date. But when did things happen the most on my blog? (Approximate dates, e.g. "<2014", are excluded.)
My earliest post is from July 20, 2001, during the G8 summit protests in Genoa:

And my latest post was December 26, 2024 - just a few days ago! A Swedish police officer searches for parachuters:

Some hotspots also arise in the graph. My most posted dates are:
January 31, 2021 (22 posts) and January 23, 2021 (19 posts) - Riot police during Alexei Navalny protests around Russia.
March 30, 2023 (19 posts) - German riot police exercise in Uelzen and Esterholz.
November 18, 2015 (17 posts) - French national police apartment raid in Saint Denis aimed at capturing Abdelhamid Abaaoud.
February 18, 2022 (14 posts) - Canadian riot police during COVID-19 protests in Ottawa.
Closing thoughts
To end off, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's followed this blog since I started it in May. I never thought I would sink this much time into collecting and sourcing images, building citation tools from scratch, finding VPNs, uncovering lost media... but here we are.
I read every note, so your comments, reposts, and deranged tags make the process all worth it :)
Whoever you are, wherever you come from, and whatever reason you follow my blog, thank you for sticking around. I hope you had a great 2024, and here's to a properly cited 2025!

FWIW I think Ottawa has quite a lot of talent on their blue line but it really feels right now that every defender is doing their own thing rather than executing a system and I think larocque can assist with that. I also think the majority of their d core was heavy on offensive minded defenders and it left tejralova on her own in a lot of tough assignments, or players like savolainen/bell/roese ended up having to eat more defensive zone start minutes/penalty kill minutes that took away from playing them in areas where they could tap into their offensive upside more and having larocque will help balance that. But I’m also just kind of going off eye test here and have not looked at any actual numbers so I may be totally wrong
#larocque is one of the best defensive defenders in the last decade and the Ottawa charge would like to stop having#everyone walk up to their net. basically.

Blog 3: The Privilege of Driving to Nature
Mcintosh described privilege as “an invisible knapsack of unearned assets ... of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks” while Oxford describes it as “a special right or advantage that a particular person or group of people has” (Noel, 2000; Oxford University Press Editors, 2024). My personal definition of privilege kind of relates to my country, Nepal. When I think of privilege, I think of the rich tourists who go to Nepal to summit Mount Everest. Not only can they afford the expensive tickets, but they are also able to sit around doing nothing at the base camp while waiting for ideal weather conditions to summit the Mountain. They don’t even have to carry all their heavy equipment; that’s the job of the Sherpas; all they must carry is whatever they feel like carrying. At the same time, the Sherpas must plan their whole year around when and how many rich tourists they can help summit the Mountain. They are not afforded the opportunity to worry about their lives or how taxing carrying all the heavy equipment is on their body. If they don’t risk their lives, the families that rely on them risk starvation for the season, as growing their own food and making money through alternate pathways is nearly impossible. I am frequently reminded of the video where a Sherpa carried a dying tourist all the way back to safety, only for the tourist to go back home, become a celebrity, and not acknowledge the Sherpa who saved their life until the internet forced them to (Zachary Rogers, 2019). I believe the ability to scale Mount Everest, sometimes multiple times, without putting in much effort is the best representation of privilege for me.

A Sherpa carrying a heavy load for a climber on Mount Everest summit
Privilege plays a huge role in nature interpretation since people who are not privileged enough to experience nature interpretation do not even know what nature interpretation means. To the immigrant parents living in the Greater Toronto Area, nature and nature interpretation are not even in their mindset. Their mind is filled with how to support their family, whether they can afford rent this month, and if they can finally buy a car to open more job opportunities. I witnessed my parents go through this as my dad would work night shifts at a Petro Canada and then go to college all while relying on whether this bus would arrive on time. This posed an economic barrier for my parents to experience nature and nature interpretation, which was one of the five factors mentioned in this week’s assigned reading on ‘Why Don’t More Minorities Come?” (Beck et al., 2018). In the same chapter, the authors proposed that public transportation from urban areas to interpretive facilities would greatly alleviate the car economic barrier (Beck et al., 2018). I believe this is a great idea, as I experienced this myself while living in Ottawa, where I did not have a car. I wanted to visit Gatineau Park however, you cannot reach the park without a car or paying for a cab. The city provided free shuttle buses from urban downtown Ottawa to Gatineau Park to alleviate this barrier.

Avior is a 3/3/3 21+ premium JCINK, open lore supernatural site that takes place in the early 2000s. Avior, Michigan has been a small town tucked in the depths of the Ottawa National Forest for as long as anyone can remember. For nearly the same amount of time, it has been the source of strange phenomena. From oddly strong starlight to the overwhelming sense that something may be lurking in the forest, even regular humans are hesitant to be caught after dark. As new researchers move to the area due to the construction of an observatory, supernatural residents worry that their true identities may be revealed and average citizens worry that their quiet town is being overrun by people who may not have their best interests in mind.
Current Events and Site Features:
Avior Observatory's Researchers have been given more specific tasks! Help move the site plot forward by completing work-place assignments like investigating electromagnetic fields and taking samples from a supposedly haunted mill!
We have just introduced a brand new set of prompts and encounters! Wander through the woods, witness strange magical plants, or even discover a monster as we near the end of Chapter 1!
Avior is open lore, meaning we do not have a set list of species to choose from and instead, you create your own species and abilities each time you create a supernatural character.
Avior features a custom skin, designed with accessibility and responsiveness in mind. This includes colors that have been contrast tested, dark and light modes, and a UserWay widget to provide additional accessibility options.

Election Day is tomorrow (April 28th), so PLEASE vote if you haven't already!
If this is your first time voting, the Elections Canada website has information on where you're meant to vote, what ID to bring, accessibility options, and more. Check it out here.
Something I've realized that many voters both old and young don't know is that unless you're voting in Ottawa, your ballot won't list the names of the prime minister candidates; instead, they will list the name of the representative for each party in your area, with their party listed underneath. You can follow these steps to look up the party representatives in your electoral district OR, if you know the party that your preferred candidate represents, look for the party listed under the representative's name.
ALSO: If you haven't registered to vote yet, you can register at the polls. Use the website to locate the polling station assigned to your address, bring your ID, and speak with the Registration Officer at the poll; they will help you fill out a registration form so that your name can be added to the list of electors.
An estimated 7.3 million Canadians — a record — took advantage of advance polls and cast their ballots over the long weekend, according to Elections Canada. The non-partisan agency said based on its preliminary figures, that marks a 25 per cent increase from the 5.8 million electors who voted in advance during the 2021 federal election. "We thank all election workers for their dedication and all voters for their patience," said Elections Canada in a social media post.
