Simulated lag artifacting
The blender render preview has a lot of artifacting in it that doesn't show up in the final render. But I think it's very pretty and I'd like to be able to use it in my final animations. I've been told that this can be done with shader nodes. But I don't really understand shader nodes. I understand characters and animation, but the math of 3D art is often too much for me.
Nonetheless, someone on another site showed me a potential 'simulated lag artifacting' shader. I mentioned that on here and fellow tumblr user @berozova asked to see it.
Here is a screenshot of the shader nodes. I admit, this sort of thing is beyond me.
As it was explained to me, and as best as I can repeat that explanation, the noise texture connected to vector math add connected to the vector of my image texture node causes the pixel distribution of the noise texture to be randomly moved up and down in a pixel noise pattern.
But, it only moves each pixel up on the x and y axis from the starting point of 0. We want it to go below 0 as well as above, so that the noise is centered, because otherwise it's pushing the texture slightly diagonally.
That multiply and subtract bit changes a range of 0 to 1 into a range of -1 to 1. Think about it:
1 x 2 - 1 = 1
0 x 2 - 1 = -1
0.5 x 2 - 1 = 0
It's a simple bit of math that converts a range of 0 to 1 into a range of -1 to 1.
That Value node is in there because the effect is too intense without multiplying it by a fraction. The UV Map node is there I think because we want this applied to the UV coordinates and not to the texture directly? Because it's the UV coordinates that determine where the texture is applied to the mesh?
I hope I haven't fudged a crucial detail here. But that is as best as I understand it for now.
Here is the result, on my character Mimi. I feel bad for her making her do all these experiments. I think she's just happy for attention and play, but as her parent I do worry of course. Now, as you can see, there is a runny watery effect to the textures, similar to what you can see when previewing your animation in blender. But there are some crucial differences.
If you look up close to her face, you see that it's not just the edge of the eyes that are getting watery and runny. But pixel noise is just spreading around randomly as well. And if you look at the bells on the ends of her clown hat, some white lines have randomly appeared there. I checked my texture image, and there are no white pixels around the bell texture at all. It's all either dark grey or transparency.
The second issue becomes clearer when we directly compare to the intended thing we're trying to simulate.
This is the render preview of my animated Mimi. As you can see, it's not just the textures that are being warped, but also the mesh itself. This completes the watery effect. If you only warp the textures, then you have the runny textures contrasted against the sharp crisp clear mesh.
This is a funny effect, isn't it? To me, it almost looks like an afterimage. But surely that's impossible? I enjoy animating my characters with low framerate and constant interpolation. If an afterimage were produced from that, then you would expect to see some significant distance between the two images, wouldn't you?
Overall, I would like to learn how to control the watery effect, but I'm going to put these experiments down for now. I have other things I want to get done, including other 3D art experiments. (I'm currently trying to figure out shape key animations in godot and also creating multiple distinct shape key animations associated with a single mesh!)
Thank you for your help Mimi!
As I said, I don't think she's bothered by being made watery, with or without unwanted texture bleed. But I am responsible for her and I have to make sure to take care of her.

Given their continuous exposure to sun, wind, chemicals, and mechanical stress, the performance and reliability of agro textiles must be verified through rigorous testing.
Importance of Agro Textiles Testing for Crop Protection
Agro textiles are designed to offer physical protection, microclimate control, and pest resistance. Their failure due to poor material quality or improper installation can lead to:
Reduced crop yields
Increased pest infestations
Soil degradation
Economic losses for farmers
To prevent such issues, agro textiles must be tested for:
UV stability and light filtration
Tensile and tear strength
Air and water permeability
Thermal aging and durability
Chemical resistance to fertilizers and pesticides
Only accredited labs have the infrastructure and certification to carry out these tests using standardized methodologies.
Who are Accredited Labs?
An accredited laboratory is a testing facility that meets the requirements of international quality standards, such as ISO/IEC 17025. Accreditation is granted by authorized bodies such as:
NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) – India
UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) – UK
A2LA (American Association for Laboratory Accreditation) – USA

Accredited labs use globally accepted testing methods such as:
ISO 13934-1: Tensile strength of woven fabrics
ISO 4892-2: UV resistance through accelerated weathering
ASTM D5035: Grab test for fabric strength
IS 16008: Indian standards for shade nets and mulch mats
These standardized procedures ensure that the agro textiles are tested under controlled and repeatable conditions.
2. Evaluating Material Durability
Accredited labs simulate long-term usage of agro textiles by exposing them to:
UV light to test degradation
High and low temperatures to assess thermal aging
Mechanical stress to test wear and tear
This helps determine if a material can withstand multiple crop cycles without failing.
3. Verifying Crop-Specific Protection
Different crops have different environmental needs. For example:
Tomatoes require 30–50% shade nets
Lettuce may need insect-proof nets with specific mesh sizes
Grapes benefit from reflective ground covers for light management
Accredited labs test agro textiles for light transmission, air flow, permeability, and mesh density to match the textile’s performance to the crop’s requirements.
4. Ensuring Chemical Safety
Agro textiles may come into contact with fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Accredited labs evaluate:
Resistance to chemical degradation
Leaching of harmful substances
Effect of cleaning agents and sprays
This ensures that the textiles do not degrade prematurely or harm the soil and crops.
5. Compliance with Export and Regulatory Standards
For manufacturers and exporters, accredited testing is essential for meeting:
REACH compliance in Europe
IS 16008 and BIS standards in India

How Bird Netting Protects Your Property from Unwanted Pests
If you’ve ever walked outside to find your pristine patio suddenly transformed into a pigeon party central, you’re far from alone. Birds, particularly pigeons, often treat our homes and businesses as their personal social clubs—leaving behind unsightly droppings, annoying sounds, and even structural damage. Thankfully, there’s an easy, humane, and incredibly effective solution: bird netting solutions. Whether you’re looking into pigeon netting installation in Phoenix or just curious about bird netting solutions in general, here’s everything you need to know about this superhero in pest control—minus the cape, of course.
Why Anti Bird Netting is Your New Best Friend
Before we get into the nitty-gritty (or should we say netty-gritty?), let’s clarify what bird netting actually is. anti bird netting , also known as anti bird mesh, is a protective barrier made from durable materials such as polyethylene or polypropylene. These nets physically block birds from accessing areas where they’re not welcome, making them an ideal solution for homes, commercial properties, warehouses, and farms.
Unlike scare tactics and chemical repellents, anti bird netting doesn’t just deter; it prevents. This distinction is crucial because birds—especially pigeons—are notoriously stubborn. Once they’ve picked their spot, convincing them to leave becomes about as easy as trying to get your cat off your keyboard during a Zoom call. Bird netting services in Phoenix provide durable, long-lasting protection against unwanted pigeons.
Say Goodbye to Unwanted Guests
When you opt for pigeon bird netting, you’re investing in more than just aesthetics. You’re safeguarding your property from significant damage and health hazards. Here are just a few perks of using bird netting solutions:
1. Protection from Health Risks: Bird droppings can contain diseases like salmonella and histoplasmosis. Anti bird mesh stops pigeons from settling, thereby reducing the health risk for you and your family.
2. Cost Savings: Structural damage caused by birds isn’t just annoying—it’s costly. Bird netting drastically reduces repair bills associated with cleaning and restoration.
3. Peace and Quiet: No more early morning pigeon cooing right outside your window. Your alarm clock and sanity will thank you.
Pigeon Netting Installation in Phoenix: Why Location Matters
Living in Phoenix offers countless advantages, like the beautiful weather, breathtaking landscapes, and abundant sunshine. Unfortunately, pigeons seem to think the same. The dry, warm climate makes the area a hotspot for pigeon activity, and homeowners often face unique challenges in bird control.
Pigeon netting installation in Phoenix is particularly popular because it offers year-round effectiveness. Phoenix’s sunny climate ensures the netting remains durable, and it won’t degrade quickly under intense UV exposure. Furthermore, professional installation is highly recommended to ensure your nets are tailored to your property’s specific needs, preventing crafty birds from finding tiny loopholes.
Bird Netting Solutions: Choose Your Fighter
Just like ordering coffee, you have options when it comes to bird netting solutions. Here are the top choices:
1. Standard Polyethylene Netting: This is your go-to anti bird net for general purposes. Durable, lightweight, and UV-resistant, it’s perfect for residential properties.
2. Heavy-Duty Netting: Ideal for commercial and industrial applications, this version is tougher, designed to withstand heavy bird pressure and environmental wear-and-tear.
3. Stealth Netting: If aesthetics are a major concern, stealth netting is nearly invisible from a distance. Great for heritage buildings or businesses wanting to maintain curb appeal without compromising protection.
Whichever anti bird mesh you choose, proper installation is key. Poorly installed nets can sag, creating entry points for persistent pests. Always consider professional pigeon netting installation in Phoenix to maximize effectiveness and longevity. Bird netting services in Phoenix are particularly popular because they offer year-round effectiveness.
Maintaining Your Anti Bird Netting
Thankfully, maintaining bird netting is simpler than trying to keep pigeons off your porch with a broom. Once professionally installed, the maintenance is minimal. However, periodic checks ensure there are no tears or damage from severe weather. Quickly repairing small breaches will prevent larger bird invasions—think of it as patching up a hole in your fortress wall before the enemy sneaks through.
Eco-Friendly and Humane Bird Control
One of the greatest advantages of anti bird netting is that it’s entirely humane. Unlike chemical methods, netting does no harm to the birds—it simply redirects them to more appropriate nesting sites. This eco-friendly aspect makes bird netting solutions ideal for anyone committed to sustainable and humane pest control practices.
Your Next Steps to Bird-Free Living
If pigeons have overstayed their welcome at your Phoenix property, now’s the time to take back control. Invest in high-quality pigeon bird netting and see immediate results. Whether you’re protecting your home garden, commercial rooftop, or balcony, bird netting is your best line of defense against unwanted avian guests.Ready to reclaim your space? In modern fashion, both structured and floppy versions are celebrated for their practicality and style.
Spring/Summer Bucket Hat: Retro Charm with Urban Edge
The bucket hat, with its downward-sloping brim and soft structure, originated as a practical rain hat worn by Irish fishermen. It gained prominence in the 1960s and later became a symbol of streetwear in the 1990s hip-hop scene. For spring and summer, bucket hats are usually made of lightweight fabrics like cotton or canvas and often come in playful patterns or pastel shades.
Its current popularity in Gen Z fashion makes it a staple for both high-street and designer collections. Whether you’re attending a music festival or just hanging out in the city, a bucket hat adds a laid-back, trendy vibe to any warm-weather outfit.
Newsboy Hat / Beret: A Nod to Vintage Elegance
The newsboy cap—also called the flat cap—has roots in 19th-century working-class attire in Europe and the U.S. Its rounded, paneled crown and small brim give it a classic look that works well with fall and winter attire. It’s particularly popular in heritage and vintage-inspired fashion.
The beret, on the other hand, brings a touch of European flair and artistry. Associated with French painters, revolutionaries, and chic Parisian style, the beret is soft, round, and flat-crowned, usually made from wool or felt.
Both hats are versatile enough to transition between casual and smart outfits, adding a polished, intellectual, or creative feel depending on how they’re styled.
Fedora: Icon of Timeless Sophistication
The fedora is the epitome of classic elegance. With its pinched front, indented crown, and wide brim, it has graced the heads of icons from Humphrey Bogart to Indiana Jones. Traditionally made from felt, today’s fedoras come in various materials to suit different seasons and occasions.
Although it was once seen as a formal accessory for men, the fedora has crossed gender lines and become a staple in modern wardrobes. When worn with a tailored coat or a sleek dress, it adds instant sophistication and confidence. In recent years, the fedora has been adopted by the fashion-forward as a bold finishing touch to both minimalist and statement outfits.
Faux Fur Hat: Cozy Glam for Chilly Days
The faux fur hat is not just about warmth—it’s a fashion statement. Inspired by the extravagance of Russian ushankas and the glamour of 1960s Hollywood, these hats offer a blend of luxury and functionality. Available in a range of textures and colors, faux fur hats are a popular choice in ethical fashion, offering animal-free alternatives to traditional fur.
These hats shine in winter wardrobes, especially when paired with long wool coats, boots, and layered scarves. They bring both vintage appeal and modern drama to cold-weather dressing.
Fall/Winter Bucket Hat: Cozy and Cool
While the bucket hat is often associated with summer, the fall/winter bucket hat is a warm twist on the classic. Made from plush materials like corduroy, wool, fleece, or faux shearling, this version keeps you snug while maintaining its stylish silhouette.
In colder months, these hats provide a playful yet practical option for headwear, especially when you want something less structured than a beanie but just as warm. Their relaxed shape and cozy fabric make them an easy complement to oversized coats and casual autumnal outfits.
Final Thoughts
Hats are far more than seasonal accessories—they're expressive, practical, and deeply rooted in cultural identity. Whether you're shielding yourself from the sun, making a style statement, or staying warm in the winter chill, there's a hat for every mood and moment. As fashion continues to evolve, the enduring presence of hats in our wardrobes proves that some classics never fade—they simply reinvent themselves, one brim at a time.

Mesh Tarps for Dump Trucks: Versatile, Durable and Cost-Effective Load Protection

Mesh tarps are a popular and versatile choice in the hauling industry, providing reliable protection for a wide range of loads. For dump trucks, mesh tarps are particularly useful due to their durability, breathability, and ability to secure loose materials.
Whether transporting construction debris, recycling, or refuse, the right mesh tarp can help prevent spillage and keep your load contained. In this article, we’ll explore the benefits and uses of mesh tarps for dump trucks, offering insights on why they are a practical, cost-effective solution for everyday hauling needs.
What Are Mesh Tarps?
Mesh is woven polyethylene fibers coated in PVC resin, designed to endure varying weather conditions. Mesh tarps provide the most utility in various circumstances. They are available in different weights, weaves, and colors, along with additional UV protection when required. Mesh tarps are flexible in a variety of weather conditions, and with correct operation, they can withstand years of daily use.
Premium materials and state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques produce the highest quality finished fabrics for a longer tarp life. This translates to less frequent tarp swap-outs and greater ROI. Mesh tarps are great for most transported materials, but are not a comprehensive solution. For instance, they do not provide the best protection from rain, so if you need waterproofing protection, you might consider a vinyl option.
Solid vinyl tarps are also made from PVC, but lack the woven design that allows air to pass through. Vinyl tarps offer the thickness, weight, and protection required to haul loads such as sand, aggregate, scrap, and building materials. Materials such as stone, gravel, or aggregate, which are prone to flying out and don’t require waterproof protection, can be properly secured with a mesh tarp.
Why Mesh Tarps Are Ideal for Dump Trucks
Mesh tarps are an excellent choice for dump trucks because they combine the breathability, durability, and versatility required to secure loose material. Mesh tarps for dump trucks allow for airflow and reduce the risk of billowing and strain on the tarp, while different fabric weights contribute to the required level of durability. As a result, drivers can haul loose materials without worrying about materials flying out of the vehicle or regulatory compliance issues.
Mesh tarps perform well across different weather conditions. The open-weave design allows water and wind to pass through. Plus, they are a lighter and more affordable solution compared to vinyl tarps, offering excellent value for day-to-day hauling needs without sacrificing quality.
Common Applications for Dump Truck Mesh Tarps
In heavy hauling applications, there are two areas where mesh tarps are commonly used:
Construction Materials: Mesh is ideal for covering materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, and other loose aggregates. Their breathable design allows air to pass through, minimizing tarp movement and preventing the accumulation of water, which can add unwanted weight to the load.
Refuse and Recycling: Non-hazardous waste, scrap metal or recyclables can be safely contained with a mesh tarps, which contains the load while allowing moisture to escape. The durable construction of mesh tarps ensures they can withstand the wear and tear associated with transporting heavy or abrasive materials.
Key Features of High-Quality Mesh Tarps
Some manufacturers cut corners with materials and fabrication that can result in a much shorter lifespan. There are several indicators to look for when shopping for a high-quality mesh tarp.
Material Quality and Strength: The construction of the tarp can either make or break the tarp’s resilience. Make sure the tarp is made of a material that you know to be high quality and can be trusted to withstand your specific needs.
Heat-Sealed Edges: Heat-sealing the fabric prevents premature fraying and creates a sturdy edge that will not tear under normal, daily use. This may be used to reinforce certain heavier types of tarp material.
Seams: This is applicable for some heavy-duty mesh applications when heat-sealing is not an option. A proper hem on the tarp will boost tear strength. Look for double lock stitching.
Single-Panel Construction: Seamless single-panel construction can prevent snagging, which is ideal for fleets hauling solid waste to a landfill.
Quality Grommets: While industry-standard tarps may include brass grommets, quality may vary. Roll·Rite switched to stainless steel grommets for added durability.
Reinforced pockets: Reinforced pockets are important for cable tarp applications. The pockets secure the tarp to the bows, ensuring smooth operation during tarping.
Corner Reinforcements: Reinforced corners provide additional wear resistance and strength.
Reputable tarp manufacturers may also include tarp labels with contact information to aid in reordering. Roll·Rite also provides a tarp reorder part number for added convenience.
Remember that finding the right tarp for your specific application is key. You’ll want to consider factors such as hauling material, airflow, and weight. We have a separate article dedicated to selecting a mesh tarp for your dump truck, trailer, hooklift, or roll-off.
In addition to selecting the correct type of tarp, accurately measuring your truck for the proper fit is extremely important. A tarp that doesn’t adequately fit your dump truck body presents efficiency and safety issues for operators. We have an article dedicated to properly measuring your dump truck to ensure the best fit.
Standard, Premium, and Heavy Duty Mesh Tarps
Depending on your specific needs, different types of mesh tarps offer varying levels of durability and functionality. Standard mesh tarps are ideal for loads such as sand, rock, aggregate, and refuse. They provide a cost-effective solution for general use, offering basic durability and functionality.
For more robust applications, premium mesh tarps are the go-to choice. Commonly used in the refuse industry, these tarps are constructed from a fabric with a heavier weave that offers enhanced strength and a longer life cycle.
When dealing with demanding debris, heavy-duty mesh tarps provide the necessary durability and performance. For example, Roll·Rite’s regular and premium mesh tarps are manufactured with a 7.7 oz. fabric, whereas our Super Tough Mesh is manufactured with a 16 oz. fabric. This robust construction meets the durability needs of more demanding loads, ensuring that your tarp can withstand rigorous use without compromising on quality.
Selecting a Mesh Tarp for Your Dump Truck
Finding and installing a high-quality mesh tarp on your dump truck is a critical step. Your tarp should be made of high-quality materials that can withstand the demands of your everyday work environment. Remember to choose a reliable manufacturer and consider how easily a tarp can be replaced through a nearby service center or authorized dealer.

How to Offer Shade to Your Customers Using Commercial Shade Sails
It’s easy to overlook how much heat and sun can affect your customers. After all, a little sun exposure never hurt anyone, right? But here’s the reality: no one enjoys shopping, dining, or relaxing while battling intense heat or harsh sunlight. And when customers feel uncomfortable, they’re more likely to leave sooner than you’d like.
Commercial shade sails can offer a simple and effective way to create cooler and more inviting outdoor spaces that drive revenue and encourage repeat business. They help block harsh sunlight, reduce heat buildup, and make your property feel more comfortable.
Benefits of commercial shade sails
Commercial shade sails can completely change how people engage with your business.
When customers aren’t battling direct sun or heat, they’re more likely to linger, which often translates into higher spending.
A clean, well-designed shade sail adds structure and polish to your outdoor space. It signals that your business is thoughtful about comfort and design, helping you stand out and draw in foot traffic, especially in busy or competitive areas.
Shade sails instantly turn outdoor areas into functional, revenue-generating spaces. Whether it’s extra dining tables, product displays, or lounge seating, you can accommodate more customers without the need for a full remodel or new construction.
When people associate your business with comfort and care, they’re more likely to return and recommend you to others.
Choosing the right shade
Measure accurately. Make sure the sail covers the area you need without feeling oversized or awkward. The goal is to get full coverage and a clean, professional look.
Choose the right material. Mesh, vinyl, and canvas each offer different benefits. Mesh allows airflow and blocks UV rays — ideal for hot areas. Vinyl offers strong weather resistance and works well for year-round setups. Canvas gives a classic look but may need more upkeep. Match the material to your climate, usage, and budget.
Think carefully about colour. More than aesthetics, it also impacts heat absorption and lighting. Light colours reflect sunlight and create a bright, open vibe. Darker shades offer a sleek appearance and more UV protection.
Pick a shape that works with your layout. Shade sails come in triangle, square, and rectangular shapes. Triangles create a bold, modern effect, while rectangles offer broader coverage. Match the shape to your layout and how you want the space to function and feel.

Stylized Works #1
The world of technology is ever growing with lots of new software and hardware being utilized, especially in the field of Games Art. As an art practitioner, it is very vital that I stay on my tippy toes and research more into my field and see what's new out there. Since, I am specializing in stylized 3d artworks, it is of essence that I am well informed and researched on the new workflows and the technology associated within my field so that I can adapt well and become more versatile.
Figure 1 (Marvel Rivals, (NewsPlus, 2024))
Marvel Rivals is NetEase's take on the hero shooter genre, infused with the recognizable charm of the Marvel Universe. Unlike most of the gritty realism superhero games, this title steers towards a more painterly-stylized aesthetic-bright, dynamic and accessible.
The characters and the environments retain strong painted influences, especially in texturing that can observed in edges of armors and costumers. However, the materials themselves behave in accordance to realistic PBR logic where metal shines and fabric diffuses light. It is a very well balanced interaction between cartoonish vibrancy and material believability.
Figure 2 (PBR logic in Marvel Rivals, (Sabarwal, 2024))
Marvel Rivals employs a soft toon outline shader around the characters, not the same as hard cell-shading like mainstream anime games, but just subtle and gentle enough to give a crisp silhouette without harsh black borders. It is very much like Overwatch but even more softer.
Figure 3 (Heroes in Marvel Rivals, (Co, 2024))
Exaggerated anatomy is the key of the game here with broader chests, slightly larger heads and powerful limbs. They maintain Marvel's "iconic posture" designs while adapting them into chunkier game-readable forms. Costumes are also designed modularly with how skins and visual customizations swap easily. Smart UV mapping and re-targetable rigs ensure swift asset swapping without breaking animations of the heroes.
A clean mid-poly topology is used- high enough for smooth animations and deformation during action-heavy gameplay but also well optimized to keep framerates high in chaotic team fights.
Figure 4 (Environment in Marvel Rivals, (Banerjee, 2024))
The backgrounds are highly contrasted, painted broad shapes with very simplified geometry while the playable areas use more rich details. This can also be seen as a deliberate way to avoid visual clutter while still keeping levels photogenic. Each map present in Marvel Rivals is color-coded- cool hues for defensive zones, warm hues for contested zones using 3D lighting and surface colors to subconsciously guide player movement.
Some maps also have destructible elements that use modular destructible meshes combined with stylized debris effects, ensuring that performance remains stable without compromising visual chaos.
Figure 5 (Animation in Marvel Rivals, (Madsen, 2024))
Though not exaggerated as Looney Tunes, there's a lot of subtle dynamic deformation especially during attacks and dodges. Meshes flex organically rather than being stiff, adding life without distracting from gameplay. The particle effects are also tightly knitted to the 3D models, socketed dynamically to bones and animation cues that provide a more richer, more visceral connection.
Marvel Rivals really nails that difficult "Stylized but AAA Polish" line. It is super readable and charming to attract casual players and technically impressive to us 3D artists. It is a masterclass in how to build a stylized world without sacrificing modern response, optimization or gameplay readability.

Development // Mall Level (Part 2)
Now that all of the layout and modelling is done, I plan to use the Quixel mega scans library to have access to have a range of materials to use. I also found a free pack that contains assets for a down town area, which will be useful when it comes to models and materials for the mall.
Now a issue that I came across was that I used cube grid to extend parts of my wall. Causing the mesh to require two materials which gets annoying to have to do for every mesh.
My first solution was to go into the modelling mode, then to delete all of the materials. After that creating a new material which would in theory make it so that the mesh uses it.
I decided before anything else, I would double check and improve the meshes around the mall. Having it so that the UV maps are more consistent so that textures tile properly.
Now another issue that I came across is that: I couldn't easily scale materials so that they tile a certain amount of times. This would makes materials not look good which is what I wanted to avoid.
youtube
I watched this youtube video to see if I could find a solution to this. I closely followed the tutorial and tried to adapt the solution to how mega scans have their materials. (One giant material that handles everything). Then in the comments I found a suggestion that would make this method easier for other materials. Which was to have a parameter that would change the scale of the texture cord.
With this issue fixed I started out by downloading and applying: A side walk material to the floor, a concrete/plaster material for the walls, and a brick material for the stairs.
After doing more searching a found a better material for the walls. Now my next step is fixing the double material issue before I start doing anything else.
Since the first solution didn't work, I had a different idea in mind: which was to edit the materials in a 3rd party application like blender. So I started out by separating all of the meshes that are being used with the unused ones. As I don't want to edit the materials of meshes that I am not using in the first place. I placed the used meshes in a separate folder while deleting all of the unused ones.
Next up, I took all of the meshes and enabled nanite on all of them. Nanite is a system inside of unreal engine that can basically provides a lot of benefits when it comes to meshes, such as optimisations that improve frame rate.
Next, I exported all of the meshes outside of unreal engine, so that I can start fixing the materials. Another reason to export them is that unreal engine doesn't allow me to make changes to them, in 3rd party applications without exporting. As well as not being able to reimport them in the case that I make any changes.
Inside of blender, I imported all of the meshes at once. This is because I plan to make a script that automatically does what I need to do to fix. The problems I am having with the materials.
Blender has support for python scripting. Allowing people to write code to do actions inside of blender. Such as in this case removing the materials.
The code simply imports the things it needs to make changes inside of blender. Then it goes through every material inside of the files and removes it. It also unlinks it from the mesh it is associated to. Then it loops through every object in the scene and then clears out all of the material slots. Lastly, the objects are looped through again and this time a new material is created with the same name as the object. This effectively fixes the issues with materials not working on the meshes.
I used snippets of code on these forum posts, when it came to writing mine. As I haven’t had experience making python scripts before let alone how blender and python interact.
Lastly for blender, I exported all of the meshes as one file to make it easier to import into unreal engine. I made sure to only export out the meshes as I don't need the materials that were created.
Now as for importing the meshes back into unreal, I simply had to make sure that I ticked off combine static meshes. Creating new static meshes instead of having one giant static mesh with everything. I also made sure to also tick off import meshes as I don't need the materials that were generated by blender. I simply used blender to fix the assignment of materials and how they work.
youtube
I used this video when it came down to importing all of the meshes inside of unreal. It helps me figure out what I had to make sure to toggle off to avoid having issues.
Now another issues appears, because I couldn't reimport the meshes that were generated by unreal. I now have two folders of meshes one being the ones generated by unreal which are broken and the ones that have been fixed. Issue being that I now would have to manually replace every single broken mesh in use to fix the previous issues. Which was something I wanted to avoid since it would have been extremely tedious.
So because unreal engine also supports python scripting, I created a python script that would do the replacing for me. This script basically takes in two variables the source folder which is everything that I want to replace, and the target folder which contains what I want to replace the source folder with. Next, I made a bunch of variables that give me the methods that I need for the replacing part.
After that, I get every single asset inside of the source folder and loop through it. I get the asset name and using that I can find the mesh inside of the target folder.
Next, I check if that mesh exists if it does then it gets loaded in to avoid any issues. This also returns a object that I will use in the final part of the code. Then I get the object that is to be replaced simply using get asset.
I create a array for the objects that need to be replaced and I place that object inside. I needed to do this because the method/function I needed to use to replace the object needs this to be a array for some reason.
Lastly, using the 'EditorAssetLibrary' I consolidate the assets to replace them with their respective new versions.
This fixes the tedious process of having to replace every single one. One by one. (Although I'm pretty sure if I did it manually it would have been faster than taking the time to write the script but oh well new learning opportunity :P)
With this every single mesh has been replaced with ones that work with materials.
Throughout this whole process of writing this script, I heavily relied on Unreal's Python API Documentation. Which provided pointers on what I needed to provide for certain functions.
I wanted to improve the store front meshes more so, I created a open hole on either side of them. This will allow me to add windows to make it so that you can look inside of the stores. Giving the mall more full look and not having full concrete walls everywhere.
Using a material from the down-town pack, I created a new mesh that will be the window itself. I used a glass material from the down-town pack to make it look more realistic.
From the same pack, I found this fountain blueprint that has a water particles setup. I decided to use this to save time from having to make my own fountain mesh and particles.
Now because of the way that some of the meshes are scaled. I needed to be able to put different materials on different sides of the mesh. This was simply done inside of the modelling mode and using the edit material took and selecting the top faces. Then creating a new material slot, setting it as the active material slot and pressing "assign active material".
I looked more into the Quixel library and also found a office roof tile material. I decided to use this material for the roof of the mall and stores.
Lastly, for the bathrooms I found a white tile material from the Quixel library. I downloaded it and placed it inside of where the bathrooms are. Matching up more with the common texture that I saw inside of my pool rooms mood board.

Basilisk- Week 4
My last character was the Basilisk, the creature responsible for turning the statues. However, due to time constraint, we could only afford the head, which would be used for cutscenes purposes.
I started the blockout. The basilisks usually has different looks to it, some are more dragon looking, others lizards and some even fishes. I decided to go with a mix of snake and dragon. During the blockout, I created the main shapes having said animals characistics in mind.
Fig.1: Blockout of the head
I then started to refine the shapes and making sure the form was polished and clean. With that done, I could start adding the high poly details such as textured horns, and the lizard scales onto the skin.
Fig.2: Basilisk head mesh.
With the mesh done, I retopoed it, made the UVs and baked the normal and it was time to texture it. For the color palette, I went with the classical green that is often associated with basilisks. I added some sploshes of other colors such as a light brown just to break up the colors a bit and make it look more interesting. I then also handpainted in some tattoos to make the creature look more otherworldy, and also made it have glowy eyes to emphasize them, as basilisks usually turn people into statues with their eyes. Lastly, I added some blood splatter to make it more threatening and horror looking as after all, our VR project was horror leaning.
Fig.3: Texturing
I received some feedback from the team, specifically Akshat who raised concer than the scales were not showing up clearly so I added a scales material in substance. I also brought the roughness up to make the basilisk look more "oily", like reptile skin.
Fig.4: FInal textures
With the basilisk head done, Akshat implemented it into the scene and made a small cutscene with it.

Can Your Windows Damage Artificial Grass? Protect Your Lawn with Premium Artificial Grass San Antonio TX

Artificial grass has revolutionized landscaping, offering a lush, green appearance year-round with minimal maintenance. However, many homeowners don’t realize that certain types of windows can pose a hidden threat to synthetic lawns. If you’re investing in artificial grass San Antonio TX, understanding how windows impact its longevity is crucial. At Ultimate Turf Solutions, we specialize in premium synthetic turf San Antonio that is designed to withstand the Texas heat and enhance your outdoor space.
How Windows Can Damage Artificial Grass
Modern windows, particularly those with energy-efficient coatings, can reflect intense sunlight onto your artificial turf. This concentrated heat can cause melting, discoloration, and long-term damage. Understanding the risks associated with different types of windows will help protect your artificial turf San Antonio TX from unnecessary wear.
1. Low-E Glass Windows
Low-E (low emissivity) glass windows are designed to improve energy efficiency by reflecting heat away from your home. However, this reflection can create a magnifying effect, directing extreme heat onto your turf. The temperature in these hotspots can soar well beyond what synthetic turf is designed to handle, leading to melted patches and weakened fibers.
2. Double-Pane Windows
While double-pane windows help maintain indoor temperatures, they can also contribute to turf damage. If the window seal fails, the trapped gas between the panes escapes, altering the way light is reflected. This creates inconsistent heat patterns that may burn sections of your artificial grass San Antonio TX, leaving behind unsightly, discolored areas.
3. Tinted Windows
Tinted windows reduce glare and heat inside your home, but they can still reflect sunlight in concentrated beams. Depending on the angle of the sun, these reflections can focus heat directly onto your artificial lawn, leading to surface deterioration.
4. Mirrored or Reflective Windows
Mirrored or highly reflective glass is designed to block UV rays and maintain privacy. However, these windows can amplify sunlight reflection, significantly increasing the temperature of nearby surfaces, including synthetic turf.
How to Prevent Window-Related Turf Damage
To protect your investment in premium artificial grass San Antonio TX, consider these preventive measures:
1. Install Window Screens
Adding mesh window screens can diffuse sunlight reflection, reducing the risk of concentrated heat spots on your synthetic turf.
2. Use Awnings or Outdoor Shades
