            I was once an Astrophyllite that mindlessly served the Empire. I assisted in my role until the rebellion that shook the Empire to its core. When I heard Rose Quartz’s words that we could be our own gem, something stirred within me. I didn’t have work for tyrants and could do as I pleased. It was because of this I fought.

            The war was terrifying and with each fight, it nearly was our last, but I was ready to be shattered for Rose Quartz and her cause. Through the fighting, I found repose and comradery with other gems like me. One was a stubborn Lepidolite, a soft gem that was built like a Quartz. Lepidolite was the first of the rebels I grew close to, but I grew too close.

            Everyday was a struggle and every fight could have been our last. Our lives were forfeit the moment we sided with Rose Quartz. I knew any day I could be shattered, and I was ok with it, until Lepidolite. I no longer just fought to keep myself alive and to fight for Rose Quartz. I fought to see Lepidolite again. To see her bright, silly eyes. To bask in her big, radiant grin. To be held in her arms. It was all I wanted at the end of every fight. Until it happened.

            To shatter a Diamond, it was impossible. At least as we had always been told, but it was the plan. To win, we’d shatter Pink Diamond. We had our doubts, but Rose Quartz assured us it could be done and she’d do it. We doubted when we shouldn’t have. Rose Quartz returned, but not without enemies on her heels. We fought the last of the remaining soldiers while others fled.

            In the chaos, I lost Lepidolite. I abandoned the fight to search for her. I had to make sure she was ok. I didn’t care what happened to me, but I couldn’t lose her. I had been taken off guard and cornered by a Homeworld soldier. I lay on the ground in shock when a song started. It was beautiful and terrifying as a Quartz soldier stood over me.

            Light filled the sky and everything came in flashes. I saw a weapon come down for my gem. Lepidolite jumped in front of the shattering blow. Her form poofed before my eyes as her shards fell on me. Panic consumed me and everything went black.

            There was nothing for so long except a hazy dream, then I woke up. I was in a lake with my comrades and the Diamonds. Fear consumed me, but the Diamonds were with Rose’s closest confidants, Pearl and Garnet. In Pearl and Garnet’s company was an off-color Amethyst and a human with a Rose Quartz gem in his navel.

            I celebrated with my comrades at our restoration, but I ache for the loss of Lepidolite. As I head into the new era of gem-kind with everyone else, I am lost. I gained the freedom I once fought for, but I am left with a nagging question. Was it worth what I lost?
