#thinking of dinosaurs and troodontids were my favorite dinosaurs as a child #when younger i had a real full troodontid tooth fossil that meant a lot to me #for a time we lived within a few kilometers of hadrosaur sites and troodontid sites #while wider general area had many sites of recovery for the big celebrities like tyrannosaur and multiple dromaeosaurs #at that time troodontids were kinda infamous for i think the depiction in some childrens field guides and dino books #which depicted like a fantasy speculative humanoid troodontid based on 1980s model at Canadian Museum of Nature in ottawa #anyway would visit a small local paleo center a lot and woman in her 70s or 80s ran the counter of their center and rock shop #one day she asked me what my fave dino was and i said troodon so she pulled out the tooth and just gifted it to me #in little black case size of ring box with padding and transparent plastic viewing cover kinda like laminate for displaying a trading card #tooth got stolen from out my vehicle while giving some people a ride while at university before i got too poor for tuition #later during first year of pandemic owner of my storage unit died and new property owners threw away everything i ever owned #i was homeless anyway lost job due to early pandemic closures and had to allocate any money to insulin and other prescrip meds #but wouldve found a way to save my things if the new owners had contacted me #they threw out photoalbums y backpacking gear y books y musical instruments y clothes y artwork y camera y all family keepsakes #and all childhood treasures like souvenirs and gifts and school awards and writing portfolios and all the little memories #which i was always sentimental about as child #from earliest age my room looked like a natural history museum with plants and maps and library of field guides #and rocks and field trip keepsakes and all kinds of little animal figurines and mother had painted room in forest greens and browns #to feel like a forest and among the succulent plants and a globe sat the troodon tooth #parents passed when i was a child #never near any family and were always moving never got to settle into proper stable place then father passed after long sad illness #and mother put in so much effort but she passed few years later and i could not take care of myself or my remaining material possessions #and so im still quite hurt having nothing whatsoever remaining of my childhood or school friends or mother or life generally #and when trying to process grief my thoughts often come back to the troodontid tooth as a focal point a distillation of what was lost #even when young i knew it was advised not to become too connected to material physical possessions #but still there are some small little trinkets in our lives that seem to hold so much meaning and i tortured myself for losing that tooth #thinking about troodon reminds me of childhood

i live in an area i remember being VERY dense with cicadas when i was a little kid. i was IN LOVE with cicadas as a child. they're one of my favorite buggos! i've been waiting for the next Max Cicadas year my whole life till now so you can imagine my anticipation for mid May here

#sporadic warbling #there are two things i feel that fully metastasized my love of bugs as a kid:#my earliest memories being in japan with japan tv/cartoons where bugs are beloved as much as any other animal if not moreso #and the fact my next stage of live was in Illinois US right when multiple cicada-heavy summers in a row when i was JUST the right age #to be stuffing them into nifty dollar store bug catchers / bug terrariums #i will also be on the lookout for cicadas with the Zombie Cicada Fungus to report/collect and send to experts for study/disposal #as they are concerned climate change has made incubation conditions more viable for said Zombie Cicadas Fungus

I feel like it’s a problem that we as a fandom genuinely cannot agree on how long ago events happened or what ages characters are in Kingdom (by which I don’t mean the “are they a child or an adult” mess, I mean characters like the Ancients, their kids/descendants, Red Velvet)

And the fact that the reason we can’t agree is because the in game information is so inconsistent and confusing, you kind of just have to pick and choose what evidence you see as canon and what isn’t. It’s not a problem with the fans, it’s a problem with the game

#yeah this is inspired by a post I just saw #not saying the take of timeline is inherently bad #the issue is the fact that we can’t decide on a definitive timeline or how long ago things were #like one thing I’ve seen is the different interpretations of when Dark Choco joined the CoD #and how old Red Velvet was when he did #my personal interpretation is that he’s one of the last members to join (prior to Affogato obviously)#but I’ve seen other interpretations where he’s one of the earliest and maybe the second #and Red Velvet is still a young child at the time #or the age old question of how long ago the Dark Flour War was #this game’s timeline is so messy #cookie run #cookie run kingdom

#tsats spoilers #AALV TSATS liveblogging #everybody say it with me: there were 12 campers at camp in TTC when Nico joined. none of them were from cabin 7 #cabin 7 was explicitly empty #and Nico was only at camp for a week #the earliest Will could have met Nico was BoTL #and even then it's unlikely Will could have joined any earlier than just prior to TLO #given his age and TLO being when he's introduced #''but how would he be cabin counselor then?'' well you see: there were only 3 kids left in his cabin by the end of TLO #and he was the oldest of those three. there's a reason why he was ''hastily appointed'' there was NOBODY LEFT #tbh its way cuter imo for Will to have seen Nico from across the battlefield at one of Nico's most shining moments #when he is purposefully showing off #and going ''WOW <3 well that made my shitty day slightly better''#and then proceeding to pine about the mysterious cool emo boy for the next year #and Nico is like. only dimly aware Will exists which drives Will up a wall #ergo Will's whole ''HOLD MY HANDS. Fascinated by how many people are picking the Daycare Attendant on that poll, I would have been soo scared of Sun

#i think sun would've liked me though which is a fun thought #i was always like the least chaotic to the point of always having to wrangle in the other kids my age #some of my earliest memories are... demanding a toddler my age to drop a sharp object #running after my friend who was ringing all the doorbells while i apologized to every person who answered their door #stopping a for-fun rock fight. twice at least #walking my friend home and comforting them after they got hurt #my mum also told me i've never thrown a temper tantrum in my entire life #oh telling my friends not to play by the fast river or frozen pond. yes i KNOW it's ice. it can BREAK. AND THE POND'S ON PRIVATE PROPERTY #[softly] why are you climbing so high up the tree #ohhh right yeah i forgot i also ended up having to help that kid get back down off the tree. just remembered #i was not the fuck around and find out kid. i wasn't about to let anyone else find out either #I COMPLETELY WENT OFF COURSE INTO NOSTALGIA. How did you first discover super paper Mario?

My mom got it for me as a random present when I was about four to six years old :3 I knew how to read so I did play it, but some simple game instructions confused me because I was yk A BABY so I didn’t get past the blue button at Yold Desert. Stupid dumb idiot baby put that damn controller down

#I say 4-6 based off context clues #I got my Wii in 2008 when I was four (I have no idea WHY I had a Wii that young) and my mom confirmed I actually did use it #so that’s the earliest possible age #I feel like I was seven when I actually started playing it #and I know there was a period when I literally couldn’t do it #so that’s why I ended it at six #I could still be wrong but I literally do not remember and I doubt anyone else does either lol #there IS a picture of me going as Lady Timpani for Halloween when I was little #if I could find that image and see if there’s a date on it that would help me

sigh. so it's come to this has it. my life has arrived at the stage in which i am an absolute Tolkien nerd. alright then

#i am ok with this #i just. there are certain things that i care about enough to drop everything and rant about #air pollution. certain historical events. uuuummmmmm other things probably idk #im never aware of it until it happens. infodump mode can not be activated with love. only with setting the record straight #and now this is officially one of those things. alright then.#i was pretty happy that it was pretty much all stuff that never gets brought up casually for any reason but ok. alright.#just like how that post says it LOOKS LIKE he didn't even *start* it until age 45 but the roots of what made that world #stretched all the way back to childhood #so too my love for the things he made go back to my earliest memories. so really this was an inevitable thing #and a natural thing that i needed much growing up before i could appreciate them in this way #I'm not.. trying to say it's sophisticated or anything ........ just that this is more of a logical progression of things for me personally
