For word Wednesday:
Profesional, child, genius, and/or tactic
Thank you so much!! Words really help get the juices flowing 💕
Professional and Tactic - from The Richmond Job Ch3
“Well he’s coming over so he better not recognise you,” Keeley hissed, placing a vapid smile back onto her face and resting a hand gently on the small of Roy’s back. “Ah Mr Mannion these are the reporters I told you about. The ones doing the feature on Sam Obisanya,” Cartrick gestured vaguely towards Keeley and Roy. “Be polite, nice to them,” Ted prompted. “But not too nice. You don’t want Mannion to get suspicious or for Crimm to become hostile,” Rebecca argued. “Crimm doesn’t seem the type to get hostile, pleasantness is the way forward,” Ted argued back. “Who is the professional here Theodore?” Rebecca chirped, her voice cheery but noticeably irritated. “Hi, my name is Annie. Pleasure’s all mine,” Keeley declared loudly over the bickering only her and Roy could hear. She turned to look at Roy who was doing a very good impression of a livid wax work with the shade of red that was starting on his neck and the intense glare focused on Trent Crimm. “And this is Conrad. We promise we won’t be getting in your way Mr Crimm. Hopefully we can work together,” Keeley elbowed Roy, staring at him with daggers in her eyes and mentally willing Roy to play along. The elbow stirred Roy awake but from the look in his eyes, Keeley was regretting that decision. “I will not talk to this living piece of excrement, and neither will you!” Roy yelled, prodding his finger into Trent’s chest and pushing past him to head towards Sam. “Nice to meet you,” Keeley laughed awkwardly before jogging after Roy. “Well that went well,” Jamie commented under his breath. “Someone smack Tartt around the head for me,” Roy growled. There was a beat of silence from the HQ as Keeley caught up with Roy. “Ow Beard what the fuck!” Jamie squawked. That brought a little smile to Roy’s face and calmed the steam that was about to come out of his ears. “Well Roy that was certainly an unorthodox tactic but I’m sure we can work with it,” Ted laughed, shrilly and awkwardly. The smile dropped back off Roy’s face, “I was not lying. I will not talk to Trent Crimm and neither will Keeley.”
Child - from A Treatment Room Doors Moment Ch5
Roy hadn’t yet worked out if Jamie was a great babysitter or just the older child you trusted to watch your younger child and hoped for the best. Sitting down for a while, as Jamie and Phoebe bounded around the Pleasure Beach with endless energy, did wonders for his mood and his knee. He was making great progress on his book, had a nice coffee to keep him warm and got to see Phoebe happy. “Look Uncle Roy look! Jamie won me a toy!” Phoebe screeched as she approached at gale force speed. Roy turned slowly and then leveled the bashful Jamie Tartt with a glare. The elephant soft toy was as big as Phoebe and she was having to carry it with her arms around it’s waist and held at her eyeline to avoid it dragging on the floor. “Did he now?” Roy stated, mentally stabbing Tartt in some very private places. Ruth was going to kill him when he rocked up back in London with Phoebe and this thing.
Genius - from Snap Ch8
“Smart ain’t it?” Jamie beamed. Beard actually took the time, for the first time on this trip to look at Jamie. The end of the season had come and Jamie had wound himself back into a tight little elastic band ball, ready to snap at the first display of outward pressure. He had come back from his trip with his mum and stepdad, laden with wine and stories of how great a time they had but still with that tension at his core. Now as they laid on a rock staring out over the ocean as the sun set, Jamie looked free. His smile was genuine, his shoulders loose and his ideas stupid. Just how it should be. “A real modern day genius,” Beard stated, somehow managing to keep the sarcasm out of his voice.

Haha I love it!
You get a little snippet talking about Jamie from the next chapter of A Treatment Room Doors Moment
“He’s not my arch-nemesis,” Roy needed to process everything else she said so dealt with the easy portion first. “Really? You got into a punch up on the pitch nearly getting you both sent off and he fucked your knee. That seems like arch-nemesis behaviour,” Keeley groaned in exasperation. “He’s a wanker yes and sometimes I wish he would die but he didn’t fuck my knee Keeley. I fucked my knee,” he groaned. No one got it. No one understood it. Why did no one understand that Roy wasn’t just dealing with one incident that hurt him? He was dealing with the consequences of all of the shitty decisions he had made in the last five years and that was a lot harder. This was no one’s fault but his own. And he was so mad about it. He should be allowed to be mad about it without having to fucking justify, place blame and try to fix it. It just really sucked. Roy had lied just then. One person did get it. Jamie had immediately got to the heart of the matter that none of his family or girlfriend or doctors had managed to work out. And they hated each other, what did that say about Roy’s other relationships?

Thank you for all these for hoarding! I've been in the "nothing matters" phase of my depression cycle for the last week or so and just today 2pm ... started having ideas again and so 🤞 I might be back!
The inspiration came in the form of Ch4 of ATRDM and some more Roy and Jamie banter so here's a continuation of the snippet from earlier
“We need to get some hobbies mate,” Jamie mumbled around mouthfuls of curry. “I don’t need any fucking hobbies,” Roy grumbled, having the manners to finish his mouthful before speaking. It had become an evening ritual that they would order similar meals and sit and chat or watch TV as they ate them together. This all began when Jamie revealed that he hated texting almost as much as he hated phone calls and started to face time Roy whenever he had anything to say. “It’s because you must be missing this beautiful mug grandad” Jamie had laughed when Roy first called him out on it. But when Roy didn’t hang up he seemed to take that as permission to continue. Give him an inch he’ll take a mile. Unfortunately, it turns out that Roy doesn’t really hate it as much as he puts across he does. Jamie understands the need to just have someone there. They don’t need to talk. They don’t need to be doing something. They just need to be there together. “No offence mate but your life is so sad,” Jamie shrugged. “Fuck off prick,” Roy growled, stabbing his fork forward towards the screen in frustration despite the threat being less than effective with 200 miles between them. “Hey!” Jamie pouted, “I said no offence!” “That’s not how that works. You can’t just say something blatantly offensive and then just add no offence and suddenly it is ok.” Jamie pulled that stupid little nose crinkle face of confusion, “um, yes it is. Thems the rules.”

Six Sentence Sunday
From what is most likely going to be Ch9 of A Treatment Room Doors Moment
As with most of Roy’s problems, this all started with a text about Jamie Tartt. And then continued with more and more texts about Jamie Tartt. Keeley’s was the first one. Keeley: Hey babe. Just wanted to check in and see if you had any clue why Jamie might have sent me a hamper of baked goods with an eerily detailed apology letter about everything that he may have ever done wrong to me in his life. Roy rang her back immediately.

Yay thank you! Always happy to share snippets. Another later point of ATRDM where Jamie is spiralling a little when he gets injured that I'm working on
“I’ve sent you a picture,” Jamie replied. Roy massaged his eyes and looked at the image Jamie had just sent. He didn’t know what he was expecting but Jamie sat on a hotel bed with a lithe beige greyhound stretched over his legs clearly asleep. “Jamie why do you have a dog?” Roy groaned, pressing the phone back to his ear. “Well like I’ve been bored because I can’t work out and when you’re doing stuff with Keeley or with the lads or with Phoebe I’ve been going on walks. And this dog rescue was asking online for volunteers to walk the dogs and I can walk and walking is better with a friend so I signed up. And just look at him, he’s called Champ and Roy he was a racing dog but then he started to get slower and not want to do it anymore so they kicked him out and sent him to the rescue because he wasn’t good enough. I had to walk with him because he’s dog me Roy. He’s dog Jamie!”

For the ask game, how about: Rain, Weather or Whether, and/or Sky.
Whether from God Forbid You Leave Me (like everybody else did)
“God Jamie,” Higgins hissed. Jamie rolled his head over again to see Higgins squeezing his hand and looking pale as a ghost. “What?” Jamie frowned. “Your dad did this to you?” Higgins mumbled. His eyes pierced right into Jamie’s soul. “I didn’t say nothing,” Jamie exclaimed, trying to pull himself up taller but the pain, the pain was back. Jamie groaned and squeezed Higgin’s hand as all the muscles in his body tensed. “Woah, woah, stay still. I’ll call the nurse ok?” Higgins exclaimed, reaching over and pressing a button before Jamie could say whether it was ok or not. And not once did he let go of Jamie’s hand.
Sky from A Treatment Room Doors Moment Ch4
Seeing Tartt in sky blue would never fail to cause Roy’s simmering anger to start to boil. It was a reflex response. That twat, in that shirt, Roy’s blood pressure peaking. Which was stupid really, Jamie had been wearing that shirt so much longer than he had been wearing the Richmond one and Roy hadn’t ever liked Jamie when he was in the red and blue.
Rain from Where the Hell is the Karma? Ch5
The big day of Jamie’s return to the training pitch it was teaming it down. Roy woke up to the rain lashing against his window and he groaned. It was an omen. It wasn’t the right day. They should wait until next week when the sun might be shining. And maybe by next week Jamie would be able to have the energy to do morning training without needing a lunchtime nap. And the press might have got fed up waiting for his return and so be less pushy around the stadium. Waiting a week was the best plan. But then Roy walked downstairs to see Jamie bouncing and humming as he danced around the kitchen already in full Richmond training gear. He was ready. It was Roy that wasn’t.

Febuwhump Day 15 - “Who did this to you?”
I promised this chapter would be coming quicker and I didn’t lie this time. This chapter is potentially one of my favourites as we actually get Roy and Jamie in the same place and Roy gets to see that maybe Jamie isn’t actually doing ok like he pretends.
This chapter has obscure football lore, soz team, but it just fit so well and fits with Jamie and his feelings in the moment. I hope you enjoy it!

For the word thing: small, sleep, safe, and/or sound
Small - from Like a Black Hole
“JT come on. It’s not the end of the world. You’re back here and coach’ll realise that you deserve the pitch time when he’s stopped being mad at you,” Paddy sighed, pulling Jamie’s head down to rest on his shoulder. Jamie as boneless and let himself be manipulated into the half hug. “I’m getting sold at summer. And no one will want me now,” Jamie whispered, finally letting the dread escape from its pool in his gut where it had been welling him down all day. “Jamie don’t,” Paddy started some inane platitude but Jamie’s chocked laugh cut him off. “Miss Welton told me. It wasn’t a real developmental loan. It was a loan to sell. They wanted Richmond to start to depend on me so the price would be hiked up. Now the price’ll be so small. God damn it,” Jamie growled.
Safe - from A Treatment Room Doors Moment Ch9
“I know you are going to swear at me for this but there’s not much more you can do,” Roy grumbled back. “For fucks sake Roy,” Jamie growled back. “There’s gotta be … there’s gotta be something,” the heat and the fury was draining out of him like someone had just pulled the plug. Anger and offence replaced by emptiness and desperation. “You’ve got two options. Fight, or flight,” Roy just keeps talking. “I ain’t ever run from nothing,” Jamie spits back but Roy ignores him. “Fight, you stay and you keep doing everything that you are doing and you keep pushing until you either get what you want or you don’t. You do everything you can, leave it in Pep’s hands. Or flight, ask for a transfer,” Roy sighed. “I can’t leave,” Jamie whispered, “it’s Man City. It’s the dream I can’t leave.” “There you have it then. We keep working,” Roy stated. “We keep working. 4am on Monday?” Jamie’s breathing was starting to even out. Roy could believe he was safe, that he wasn’t going to do something stupid. “4am on Monday.”
Sleep - from Where the Hell is the Karma?
He was peaceful in sleep. Georgie rushed straight over, the need to have Jamie in her hands to prove to herself that he was here was understandable. He gripped Jamie’s hand in both of hers and pressed a tender kiss to his temple before she started to sob. Simon followed at a more sedate pace but with no less desire to confirm that his boy was back with them. He rested one hand on the back of Georgie’s neck and the other on top the blankets over Jamie’s knee. They were the picture of a family. Jamie had his family back and the Sutton family had their Jamie back. Roy, however, was rooted in place.
Sound - from Snap Ch7
“That should be good for you. All of you to have that time to reconnect,” Beard smiled. Jamie didn’t. He had been mutilating a defenceless tissue for the whole conversation and it was looking worse for wear. Jamie’s very good at putting on a mask when he wanted to and Beard should be honoured that Jamie didn’t wear a mask at their meetings. But when he opened the portcullis in his impressive mental walls, Jamie was as easy to read as a ladybird book. “Sound, yeah, I mean, totally,” Jamie rambled, the tissue in tatters in front of him. Yep, Jamie was stressed.

Yay thank you! So all this football talk returned me to A Treatment Room Doors Moment this morning and the crux of the issue for Jamie which is that he isn't being played at City. All of his problems come from the fact he can't get into the City starting eleven. So I've pulled from news reports about players at City and Pep's team selections (which I went into a little bit in my squad management rant) to inspire this (particularly in this section the reasons why Gabriel Jesus left). All the players are made up, I'm only using Pep because the show used Pep.
So yeah, here's a snippet from Ch8 of ATRDM
“But nothing I’m doing is right. I’ve got my weight back under control, I’m the fittest I ever been, running rings round all them second teamers now. I spent the whole international break at the campus. I’ve stopped drinking, I barely go out with the lads. I’ve been trying different positions to show I’m not a glory hunting striker anymore,” Jamie rambled. Ted would be proud, Roy couldn’t help but think but vocalising that opinion was not going to help Jamie’s spiral right now. “I even, this week I was even training with the starters as the false nine as Luiz was nursing an injury from internationals. I thought this was it you know. Pep’s finally noticed all the work I’m putting in, he didn’t have any criticism yesterday,” Jamie’s voice was getting more and more high pitched and frantic as he talked. Roy could hear him moving backwards and forwards and could imagine him chewing on his hoodie string, pulling at his hair or his sleeves with his free hand as he spiralled. He wanted to be there for him, he wanted nothing more in that moment to be there for Jamie. But Jamie was in Manchester, Roy was in London. “Then tonight, ahead of the lunchtime kick off tomorrow. Guess who’s the false nine,” Jamie’s voice switched from frenzied pain to anger in a flash. “Alves, fucking Alves Pep’s little wonder child. A defender Roy. Pep would rather play a wing back as his striker than his actual striker. Even Alves apologised to me, said it was mad. If,” Jamie paused to scream before returning to his ramble, “if a defender is going to get picked over me for my fucking position then what is the fucking point of being there!”

need for the word of the week thing? :)
Ayyy thank you!
From Ch9 of A Treatment Room Doors Moment
“I didn’t bribe Corwin to babysit you. He was worried about you after I asked him to get you on the bus and you had your momentary lapse in sense. I explained that I was coaching you of sorts and asked if he could keep an eye on you to make sure you weren’t over worked or hurt or something and not telling me,” Roy decided to be the adult in this situation, one of them had to be and it wasn’t going to be Baby Tartt. “Well he can stop it,” Jamie grumbled. “Will you tell me if you need a break or if anything bad happens in Manchester?” Roy replied and got a deep and exaggerated sigh in response. “Fine,” he sighed and Roy could practically hear the eye roll. “Then I’ll stand Corwin down but I don’t expect he’ll stop checking in on you because god forbid Jamie Tartt actually have teammates that care about his well being. It’s the end of the world, hide your children,” Roy replied and smiled at the scoff of a laugh from the other end of the phone.

Greyhound (or hound or dog), arm (or wrist, hand or elbow), and/or head (or hair or mind)
Awful day so trying to wash it out with fic writing! So even though train thoughts are over for a fortnight these are very much appreciated ❤
Greyhound - from A Treatment Room Doors Moment Ch8 (as soon as you asked for dog I had to continue this scene!)
“Look at this cutie!” Keeley squealed as Jamie opened the door, Champ held back by Jamie’s fingers lopped under his collar. “Not the welcome I was expecting but thanks,” Jamie smirked, sticking his tongue out when Roy growled. “Oh shush you,” Keeley scolded, whacking him lightly on the chest before kneeling down to say hello to the dog. Champ writhed in Jamie’s grasp to investigate all of Keeley and Roy. “Come in then I can let him run,” Jamie groaned as he bent down and pulled Champ into his arms. As soon as Jamie’s arms were under his stomach, the greyhound went limp. His head rested on Jamie’s chest and legs dangled. “Awww,” Keeley purred, clutching a hand over her heart. “He likes cuddles, it’s the only way to keep him still,” Jamie grins and heads back into the hotel room with dog in arms. “God, he is dog Jamie,” Keeley hissed and giggled as they followed him inside.
Arm - from Roll Call Ch3 (could it be anything else!)
“Thank you for your care Mandy,” Sam smiled weakly as his arm was manipulated back into it’s sling. “I would say anytime Sam but I’m not being rude when I say I hope I never have to see you again,” Mandy gave Sam a smile and a pat on the good shoulder before she was caught up in the crowd bustling to the next patient. Colin immediately dived to Sam’s side when he stumbled to his feet. “Come on, let’s get you,” Colin started and then trailed off. He hadn’t thought that far ahead yet. Dani was admitted and that was the only other person that Colin had found. “I need to go queue for my prescription,” Sam stated, stirring Colin out of his thoughts. “I’ll go get it for you,” Colin blurted out, he could be helpful. Sam shook his head slowly. “I’ll go get it. You will sit here,” Sam pushed Colin into the seat Sam was just treated in, “and call the club for help. Stay.”
Hair - from The Richmond Job Ch3
“Trent Crimm you say?” Beard questioned through the earpiece. Roy hummed an affirmative. “God he does have good hair,” Jamie’s voice sounded more distant, Keeley could see him now leaning over Beard’s shoulder and making a nuisance of himself. “I know right,” Keeley whispered, turning around with her camera raised to take pictures of the team. And if some of them happened to have Cartrick, Crimm and Mannion in the background then … whoops what a shame. “Stop talking about fucking Trent Crimm’s fucking hair,” Roy growled. “Ooo this journo really got a bee in your bonnet there Roy. He mean to you or sommet?” Jamie laughed.

A little bit of A Treatment Room Doors Moment Ch3 for you this fine morning for this wonderful bouquet 🧡🧡🧡
Jamie: You remember when I told you that I had your poster on my wall? Roy frowned at his phone. Jamie’s brain worked in mysterious and often infuriating ways. Roy: Yes… Jamie: I lied Jamie: I HAVE your poster on my wall. It’s still up there at my mummy’s place. I know I always call you grandad and yeah it’s designed to hurt and I don’t want this to hurt but your career man … legendary. I wanted to be you. You did it all and you should be hella proud of all you did even if you are a wanker at heart Roy felt his chest tighten and his throat fill with emotion. Roy knew that Jamie was a fan when he was a kid but I wanted to be you was not just being a fan. He had done good hadn’t he. His career was long. It was filled with highs and trophies and fun alongside the losses and the pain. He had inspired a new generation even if one of them was a fucking idiot. Jamie: And you went out on a fucking high didnt ya? Chased me down you spring chicken Yep, he was a fucking idiot. But for some reason Roy was smiling again.

🌹🌹 roses for you!
Muchly appriciated. Focus today has been on Ch3 of Where the Hell is the Karma? which I don't really want to share any of because it should be up tomorrow (you know when I said it was nearly done at 3600 words ... it's now 7000 lol), and A Treatment Room Doors Moment because I'm having a kick of inspiration for it. So hears a little bit from Ch5 of ATRDM
“How about this Pheebs? We find Uncle Roy a nice café and get him some ice cream and you tell me all about your season so far while queueing for that Spongebob ride so we don’t have to take your bag with us?” Jamie grinned, bending down to Phoebe’s height to discuss with her. “I can fucking ride the Spongebob ride,” Roy growled. “But wouldn’t it be nicer to have ice cream instead of having to queue with loads of ew, children,” Jamie replied in his best talking to a child voice and Phoebe giggled. “I can fucking ride the Spongebob ride,” Roy repeated, gritting his teeth to try and not lash out at Jamie. Jamie sighed, worrying his lip and staring at the floor. “Mind giving me and your uncle a moment Pheebs. How about you grab that bench for us?” Jamie’s forced smile returned and Phoebe nodded, running to claim a seat before someone else grabbed it. Jamie gave her a little nod before turning to face Roy, smile still plastered on his face. “What the fuck are you doing Roy?” he hissed through clenched teeth. “What the fuck are you doing trying to sideline me?” Roy snapped. “You can barely walk you twat. I know you should be on crutches right now but chose not to start a fight about that. We’ve been on our feet most of the day. Every time you walk up stairs the noise makes me want to vomit. I’m trying to save your leg and also your mood. That queue is fucking long. Just sit down, read a book and eat some ice cream instead of suffering for literally no fucking reason. Fucking idiot,” Jamie ranted. “My knee is fine. I got that damn surgery so that I could do things with Phoebe, so that she wouldn’t have to not do things because of my injuries anymore,” Roy grunted. “Great, well done you for making one sensible choice in the last god knows how long but one, Phoebe isn’t missing out because the hottest footballer in the prem is going to take her on whatever rides she wants and buy her so much sugar because he doesn’t have to witness the consequences. Two, if you fuck up your knee more by being a stubborn little shit then you are just going to miss out on more in the future,” Jamie stated, counting his points on his fingers. Roy had to do the one thing that he hated more than anything else in the world … admit that Jamie had a point.

For the WIP word game: Walk, Home or Run?
Walk - From A Treatment Room Doors Moment
"I wasn't good to mummy for a while. I was a downright fucker to Simon," Jamie muttered, his free hand migrating up for him to chew on his thumbnail. Roy gently squeezed Jamie's hand again. Awareness returned to Jamie's expression and his hand feel back down and bunched under his t-shirt. "So I'm doing everything I can to help them. I know I can't buy affection. I learnt that but they shouldn't have to worry about anything and mummy worries about her friends. Particularly those who have kids who went the wrong way," Jamie managed to finish his thought. They continues to walk in quiet for a moment.
Run - From Dutch Courage
“I’m driving to Roy’s in the morning,” Jamie announced over tea. “Why?” Jan asked, gently placing his fork down on his plate. Roy’s place was likely safe for Jamie but it was still a risk. If they got papped at Roy’s then Jamie might be followed, it wasn’t as safe as Nelson Road or Jan’s place. “4am run,” Jamie shrugged, staring at his plate. His fork pushed the rice around in clockwise circles with only a couple of bites making it into his mouth.
