i think saying that mephisto would never change, develop, or even learn to fully accept mc and the brothers honestly feels reductive of his character, especially since his status as a noble means that those values were drilled into him since he was young. he feels like the opposite of dia, contrasting dia's outgoing, curious, and immense enthusiasm to connect beyond the devildom, vs. mephisto sticking to what he was told to do and what he's supposed to believe

and it's not like he's outwardly antagonistic of the brothers in the OG game - if anything, the only one he truly has disdain for is lucifer, and that's because of his fear of being replaced - he was literally raised to be diavolo's friend, and i imagine getting that title taken off of him by an ex-angel didn't bode well for his psyche lol

even in nightbringer he comes across more standoffish than anything - you'd think he'd be a lot more mean considering this was literally right after the celestial war, but even dia mentions that he helped tend to the brother's wounds. thirteen even pokes fun at his penchance for hiding what he truly feels.

so yeah - sorry if this ramble sounds shallow but i really don't like when people claim it's out of his character to potentially grow and develop

sorry but if ur entire reasoning on disliking mephisto banks entirely on u jumping to conclusions about his character without even giving him a fraction of a leeway that you do with the rest of the cast so u resort to calling him "shallow and abrasive" im just gonna assume you have some racial bias going on in ur head

look at it this way: how come when mephisto does something even slightly rude or mean towards mc (or any of the brothers) (which he doesnt even do often btw. it's ESPECIALLY LESS in nb besides lucifer) he's immediately irredeemable, unjustified for his actions, etc but whenever, let's say, lucifer (using him bc he's one of my favorite characters so yall can't put shit in my mouth where there is none) does something questionable in the same vein ya'll immediately jump to his defense or bring up personal character anecdotes? like don't piss me off??

it's so easy to figure out why mephisto is the way he is and why his courses of action lean the direction they do because the game quite literally shoves all of it in your face. some of ya'll just don't bother to read between the lines the same way yall do for the other characters because of ... reasons, whatever they may be, but then immediately interject on conversations that involve him only to say "oh i fucking hate him i wish he never existed" gee i wonder why you think that...

anyways, i digress. ofc i'm not saying you can't dislike a character (hello i literally felt nothing for solomon the first 6 months of me playing obey me until i gradually started to like him) but when ur dislike can be traced back to racial bias whether consciously or not... i would personally never open my mouth on the internet, that's all I'll say

had a draft ready abt L36 thoughts and defending mephisto from weird lukewarm takes ive been seeing but like how many mephisto posts do i need to make at this point about how some of ya'll's refusal to understand underlying contexts of indoctrination, worldview ignorance, and political control when it comes to how the house of lords use mephisto to keep tabs on dia and the brothers (particularly lucifer) and not allowing him the benefit of the potential to unlearn and realize his own wrongdoings so you keep him in the role of a sole aggressor in your analyses and commentaries can, in fact, be read as racial bias

(no spoilers) holy fucking HELL lesson 37 was a ride and a ride i LOVED. that blew my expectations off the water. i literally had chills while playing through it. nightbringer devs ur writing may be hit or miss, but when it hits... IT HITS. AND THIS IS ONE HELL OF A HIT. i literally cannot wait for next week's lesson. we're so close to finishing chapter 2....

nightbringer lesson 21 spoilers (ish) under the cut

new season time woooo 🥳 it's not too heavy just yet but there are some points worth noting that are pretty much setting the scene for what season 2 is gonna revolve around.

so it's basically establishing that s2 is gonna be about forging pacts with the brothers, before solomon and mc's "connection" with their current time cuts off, making them lose their powers

we open with diavolo finalizing preparations for the opening of RAD in two months, and ends with solomon saying we have to reforge our pacts with the brothers by then, as well.

at this point all we're given is that magic/magic power is intrinsically linked with time, so therefore we can hypothesize that severing your ties with your timeline results in the loss of magic, unless we reestablish that connection (in this case, pacts). this is a pretty shallow reading of it, so don't take it to heart too much lol

i think what else is interesting is what happens to mamon in this lesson. although he is greedy and has a penchance for underhanded tactics to get what he wants, in this one he basically lacks empathy for mc's injury and even lashes out at belphie for a simple accident. by this point we're led to think that something is off (lucifer especially notices) before mammom clicks to his senses and runs off back home.

i think that'll be another core point in the season - fully establishing the brothers with their sin. i think it makes sense, since by this point it's only been a year and a few months since the fall, and because they've fully accepted being demons now i think it'd be high time for their sin to kick into full gear before they learn how to control/repress it. i think satan is an outlier here though, as he was born a demon and has already had time to process his wrath, so i'm also thinking he'll be a central character in helping his brothers if the season DOES go that route.

ALSO we got to see mephisto planning out the newspaper club! which will hopefully mean more of him, please. hehe.

anyways i'm pretty hyped for this season! i feel like if it ends with getting pacts with all the brothers we'll eventually have to confess our origin to them and probably another revelation by nightbringer. truthfully i really hope they incorporate the "learning how to live with their sin" thing bc it'll be a nice insight of the brothers and in furthering their characters as we know them in the present.

said artist then apparently doubled down?? or whatever. then more shit came out abt them openly sexualizing luke and being buddy buddy with accounts that do the same thing 😭😭 some of yall need to get it in ur heads that calling out people for being gross weirdos is not "toxicity in fandom" ... unless of course. the shoe fits. in which case boooooooo tomatoes aren't enough i need to hit you with a brick

not obey me related whatsoever but will somebody care if i make an extremely detailed lengthy post about how much i love hare wo matsu by orangestar and how perfectly it fits honami thematically main story-wise and basically how it's a jumpstart to her character as a whole. like i truly cannot think of a more perfect song for a first focus

like the juxtaposition of the song's melody (bright, light, upbeat) vs the lyricism (themes of hopelessness, uncertainty, loneliness) exactly mirroring how honami was during the early parts of the story and even a little while after joining leo/need and then you see her now during her 4th focus as a steady, strong pillar for the band and even becoming their leader. i might erupt into tears yall I LOVE HONAMI SO MUCH
