Preparedness Part 2: Go bag and Go Bin
Chances are, you have a car. Chances are you can afford a big plastic tote.
For a backpack to use as a go bag, use either a rugged or hiker's backpack. You'll appreciate very fast the use of a waist belt to help get weight off your shoulders.
So why suggest both? Your go-bin can be for automotive emergencies and sheltering in poor weather, if that's blizzards or tropical storms. Don't count on it, if you're starting off at home, but it could save your life if you're on the side of the road.
Also, put everything into ziplock bags and label it. It'll make things easier later.
Go Bag:
Solar blankets
Hand sanitizer
NSAIDs (ibuprofin, tylenol, etc.)
Medicated aloe gel
Milk of Magnesia (unflavored)
Playing cards
Mini screwdriver kit, hammer
Glowlight
Jar of peanut butter of choice (if not allergic)
Toothpaste tablets
Preferred candy, dark chocolate
Floss
Deodorant
Extra socks, in ziplock bag
Sewing kit, with patches
Bicycle repair kit
Bandanna, plain
Rain poncho in a bag
100$ cash
Go bin:
Fix a flat
Emergency signal light
Warm blanket
Solar blanket
5 gallon jug with water
Emergency rations, preferably self-heating types
Tire iron
50 yards of rope
Hatchet (if in a rural area)
Extra set of clothes and socks, back-up boots
Emergency wind-up/solar powered radio

GI Pipes - Application, Advantages & Disadvantages
Tumblr media
Galvanized iron (GI) pipes are made from mild steel strips made from Low Carbon Steel Coils. To give the strips a circular shape, they are run through a succession of fin rolls. The slit ends of the strips are then welded together by applying a high frequency electric current across the edges constantly. The welded steel pipes are then sent through sizing sections to fix any dimensional discrepancies. Automatic cutting equipment are then used to cut the pipes to the desired lengths. The tubes are then randomly pressure tested for leaks. Pipes are galvanized and varnished in accordance with particular specifications.
Tube Trading Co. is one of the most popular GI Pipe dealer in Vadodara.
GI Pipes are commonly utilised in rural and urban regions to distribute treated or raw water. These pipes are less expensive, lighter in weight, and easier to handle.
Application:
●     Water & Sewage pipes
●     Electric poles
●     Structural purposes
●     Engineering purposes
●     Automotive purposes
●     Oil and gas transmissions
Tube Trading Co. is a noted GI Pipe distributor in Vadodara.
The galvanized pipe is a zinc-coated pipe. Steel is protected against corrosion by a galvanized coating. It is most typically used in exterior structures like fences and handrails, as well as in certain indoor plumbing.
Advantages:
1) Antirust:
If rust is polluted, an extra layer must be provided to allow it to pass through. Steel's iron reacts with oxygen and water to form rust, which causes the object to deteriorate. These elements are less likely to trigger this reaction if they are coated with zinc.
Tube Trading Co. is the leading GI Pipe dealer in Gujarat.
2) Less Costly:
Galvanizing is typically less expensive than other conventional pipe protection procedures. This is because other procedures normally necessitate a lot of physical labour, whereas galvanizing necessitates less physical labour. At the same time, galvanized steel pipe has a very long service life. It can be used in many rural locations for more than 50 years and in severely exposed urban and coastal locations for more than 25 years. As a result, maintenance expenses are reduced.
Looking to buy the best quality Galvanized Pipe (GI Pipe), contact Tube Trading Co. - an excellent GI Pipe distributor in Gujarat.
3) Easy checking:
The inspection of galvanized pipe can be done directly. Galvanized coatings can be visually checked and checked for thickness using a simple nondestructive testing procedure.
Disadvantages:
1) Internal corrosion:
Although the zinc barrier in galvanized pipes prevents corrosion for a period of time, the process inevitably takes a long time. When this occurs, the pipe begins to corrode from the inside out, perhaps resulting in a leak or pipe rupture.
Tube Trading Co. is a dominant GI Pipe supplier in Vadodara.
2) Water pollution:
Corrosive elements like lead from exposed metals may leach into your water supply as galvanized pipes deteriorate. When this occurs, the minerals begin to build plaques on the interior of the pipes. That patch begins to restrict the flow of water in your home over time, and the water can even change colour.

Too Much Monkey Business: 4 Songs Talking Rhythm In Rhyme
A tongue twister, battle cry blood blister. Rhythmic rhyme, why don’t people do it all the time!? Now, There are a few reasons that make Chuck Berry a nasty rotten jailbird. There is also an awesome amount of evidence that explains why he is the master and the poet laureate of Rock N Roll. Chuck went on to influence countless pockets, patches and blankets of culture; he will as long as human beings exist. It’s just in the chemistry. The chain reaction since the dawn of time and he was a big link in the chain.
The dude started a trend of songwriting that would later lead to music that remains infinite in our human existence. He has songs himself such as Johnny B. Goode and Maybelline that will forever be heard as the roots of Rock N Roll. These songs put Chuck in the stars, but his poetic, rhythmic genius is completely exposed with one track in particular. Written and released as his 5th single from Chess Records, A track titled, Too Much Monkey Business, was released in September of 1956. A song that runs a string of complaints in a whimsical, humorous, ironic fashion.
“Run and to and fro,
Hard-working at the mail,
Never fail at the mail,
Here comes a rotten bale.”
Or how about,
“Pay phone
Something wrong
Dime gone
Well I oughta’ sue the operatah’
For tellin’ me a tale...ahhh”
Too Much Monkey Business with Lyrics
The rebellion of routine recognized. The “botheration” expressed in rhythm and rhyme. A comedic, Shakespearean perspective on everyday life is thrown into a two minute and fifty-three-second track. Listen to Chuck’s attack on,
“Same thing, every day,
gettin’ up, goin’ to school,
no need me to be complaining,
my objection overruled...ahhh”
Badass attitude. Tone makes everything. From the tone in a sunset, to how you talk to your mother. This rabble-rouser tone is nearly mimicked later in 1965 when the world would get flipped and swing the “Gates of Eden” open to a cultural renaissance.
The boot that kicked clean through the barn door, where culture was lying dormant, opens up with Bob Dylan’s evolution of “Another Side.” The opening track on the debut of Dylan’s electric brilliance, puffs up, slicks back and bohemianizes Chuck’s “Monkey Business.” Subterranean Homesick Blues reflects the rhythm and rhyme of Too Much Monkey Business and is righteously reinvented.
“Maggie comes fleet foot,
Face full of black soot,
Talking that heat put plants in the bed but
Phone’s tapped anyway,
Maggie say ‘the men they say must bust in early may,’
Orders from the DA.”
Dylan attacks the ironic unfairness of expectation that society holds, much as Chuck does, but Dylan nearly interrogates it under a spotlight. It’s like Dylan has this special lens that allows us to observe a million little ants who don’t know how the hell to work together and they’re all bumping into each other, trying to figure it out. Chuck is more day to day, profile to profile, person to person. Dylan reaches a bit further going chapter to chapter. Verse by verse he compares the hustle of the city to the hustle of the farm; hinting at civil rights, cultural phenomenons, stuff like that. Dylan is literally warning you “Look out kid, this is what this hard life has to offer, here are some obstacles I’ve observed along the way; let me explain in my alien-like, Shakespearean, Chuck Berrian original dialect.
“Get Born (Get Woke eh? Dylan was woke AF, am I right?) keep warm,
Short pants romance,
Learn to dance,
Get dressed, get blessed,
Try to be a success*,
Please her, please him, buy gifts,
Don’t steal, Don’t lift,
20 years of schoolin’ and they put you on the day shift.”
*In the famous music video Dylan shoots in 1965 for Subterranean Homesick Blues, he flips through poster cards that follow the lyrics of the song. When the line “Try to be a success,” comes up, Dylan holds a card that reads, “SUCKCESS.” His warning is rhetoric and my personal interpretation is that this world kind of tells you to try to be a kiss ass, suck a lil pee pee maybe? On another note, he also holds a card up that reads “It’s hard” during the line “hard to tell if anything if gonna sell try hard, get Bard” The warning plays back simple and clear, “it’s hard.” Also telling everyone to “get bard,” get hip to willy the shake….Billy Shakespeare.
Subterranean Homesick Blues Music Video
Two rhythmically similar approaches to songs, that paved the way to a new way of thinking. An honest, hysterical, fresh way of thinking. The Earth is perfect, but the world is unfair and the human species is competitive. The real heroes are the honest ones who can practice patience, recognize and relay that reflection of chaos and stupidity that we, as a whole culture and species, are functioning under.
So the 70s happen and most of the 80s happen where time has allowed generations to digest the cultural phenomenon and renaissance that occurred at the latter half of the 20th century. This band in November 1987 puts out a single that supposedly was inspired by being hyper-aware, anxiety, and a dream in which a party was full of people who all had the initials,  L.B. The 80s-indie rock band R.E.M. releases It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine). To be honest, I thought this song was a 90s song, and it certainly sounds like it could have come out in 1993. R.E.M.: great band; ahead of their time.
“Six o'clock, T.V. hour, don't get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting
Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a motive, step down, step down
Watch your heel crush, crush, uh oh
This means no fear, cavalier, renegade and steering clear
A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives and I decline”
More stream of consciousness and way more chaotic, surreal and nonsensical. However, the songwriter, Michael Stipe still created a piece that belongs in this group of rhythmic rhyme. It’s a whimsical perspective on the human tragedy. Its’ surreal, revolving, apocalyptic take, still hints at rebellion and liberty from societal routine. ‘Everyday at 6pm, the news comes on and oh boy look at all this chaos...yipee! Maybe I should do something about it, light a candle for someone, try to get some action going on the streets….ah there’s so much to do and nobody’s listening and they’re telling me not to do it anyway, but ah fuck it.’ Songwriter, Michael Stipe effectively carries on the similar cynical helplessness in this fun, whimsical rhythmic rhyming pattern we see from Berry and Dylan. It’s possible I’ve missed other examples in between 1965 and 1987, and if did, please let me know! I’d love to hear from you and talk music history!
It’s The End of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) Music Video
2 years later, Billy Joel writes and releases a single in July of 1989 that captures accurate historical moments and tense emotion spanning from the end of the Second World War to the present day of 1989. We Didn’t Start The Fire continues the legacy of Too Much Monkey Business with the rhythmic rhyming pattern that Chuck started back in 1956. Joel uses historical points as well as cultural and political icons to reflect the human collection of events that are placed on the scales of judgment. A moral test of ourselves. Chuck’s rolling eyes from “botheration,” Dylan’s weighted tongue sticking out at America’s societal routine, Stipe’s dizzying anxiety of becoming overwhelmed and now Joel’s judgment.
Joel steps back and looks, not only at America but the world to examine, essentially, the ripple that has been rolling since the bombing at Hiroshima using the same rhythmic-rhyming method as Chuck and Bob nearly 3-4 decades prior. I like to think of where these artists were when they were picking up influence for a piece like this. Was Joel listening to R.E.M. a couple of years prior on the radio and heard something click in his head? He had to be a fan of Chuck and Bob. Maybe he wasn’t even conscious of the similarities.
We Didn’t Start The Fire Montage
We Didn’t Start The Fire Official Music Video
We Didn’t Start The Fire- The chorus implies that the generations before us kind of made a mess so big that the next generation could never avoid stepping in it. Now I get that my tone may sound negative, but with a grander perspective, it doesn’t have to be so cynical. In fact, I think that Chuck and Bob use a more of an ironic, cynical tone as opposed to Billy who uses more of a mature, mediating tone. ‘Okay so, I wasn’t in existence when y’all were throwing shit on the fire, but now I guess I’m here and it’s all kind of getting out hand...maybe we should do something about it? No? Maybe? Yea, we should probably take care of this, right?’
“We didn’t start the fire, we didn’t light it but we’re trying to fight it.”
The 80s gave us a heroic tone and hopeful songs about changing for the better and the how the world had to take a good look at itself in order to do so. Joel still uses a great amount of condemning and controversial examples of how the world isn’t in its best state.
“Birth control, Ho Chi Minh, Richard Nixon Back Again (Whoops)
Moonshot, Woodstock, Watergate, punk rock.
Begin, Reagan, Palestine, terror on the airline.
Ayatollah’s in Iran, Russians in Afghanistan
“Wheel of Fortune”, Sally Ride, heavy metal, suicide
Foreign debts, homeless vets, AIDS crack, Bernie Goetz
Hypodermics on the shores, China’s under martial law
Rock and roller cola wars, I can’t take it anymore.”
In the end, it seems that it all has become too much. There is still hope in this song. The other three don’t hold the tone of hope as much as they do cynicism and tragic hilarity. Subterranean Homesick Blues and Too Much Monkey Business complain and warn us, as It’s the End of the World  As We Know It is more like a kid punching one fist in the air offering incomprehensible stream of consciousness with a radical attitude.
How the four differ: Bob doesn’t use a chorus, he uses a hook, “Look out Kid, It’s something you did, don’t matter what you did, you’re gonna get hit, they keep it all hid.” The other three have a distinct repetitive chorus separate from the verses. Bob throws the hook in the latter half of each verse to bring his thought around to a satisfying conclusion only to continue kickin’ that rock n roll. Like I said, a boot through a barn door.
We can conclude that these four tunes share multiple patterns and techniques that make them stand out from other songs. We witness an evolution of the observation of societal decline. They all use quick, rhythmic rhyming patterns that make these songs catchy, memorable and well...hit singles. Make a playlist with these four songs in order from Too Much Monkey Business to We Didn’t Start The Fire. Find out for yourself. Let me know if you discover anything. Let’s talk about it!
There aren’t many songs like these four, and well this article/blog/piece-whatever you want to call it- is just recognizing that and nothing more. Maybe we can learn something from it...but I’m just going to try writing a quick, witty, whimsical, ironic, rhythmic, rhyming observation on the societal decline and see what comes out. Maybe it’ll be a “hit single” yea right..and maybe roosters won’t peck me every time I try to give ‘em a kiss!
Aloha and always cheers,
Fisher the Lloyd

What Is Microfiber Leather
Microfiber leather is an abbreviation of ultrafine fiber PU synthetic leather. It is a non-woven fabric made of three-dimensional structure network by carding acupuncture with microfiber staple fiber. After wet processing, PU resin impregnation, alkali reduction, and dermabrasion and polishing And other processes eventually make microfiber leather. It is made by adding ultra-fine fiber to PU polyurethane, which makes the toughness, air permeability and abrasion resistance further strengthened; it has extremely excellent abrasion resistance, excellent cold resistance, breathability, and aging resistance. Eco-friendly, Comprehensive performance beyond real leather. Widely used for automotive, garment, bags, sofa, shoes, boots, basketball, belt, jewellery box and so on. We are specialize in microfiber leather production manufacture. We provide the optimal leather options, the best leather substitute and best leather alternatives for automotive seat covers and interiors, furniture & sofa upholstery, footwear and shoes, bags, garments, gloves, balls, etc.
While synthetic leather were once considered not suitable for high quality shoes,  PU microfiber leather has changed how shoes are made.
Microfiber leather is designed to hold up against weather conditions and the wear and tear of walking and running over an extended period of time.
They can retain their form very well, and thus are usually very durable if cared for properly. They're also more water-resistant and lighter than real leather, making them great for long wear and outdoor activities.
We found this video, below, that tests how durable shoes made with suede microfiber leather are. Check it out!
Microfiber leather, or micro fiber leather, is the highest quality grade synthetic leather (faux leather or PU leather), a high-tech simulation of high-end leather material. WINIW Microfiber Leather is simulated the structure of natural leather, using sea-island superfine micro fiber (ultra-fine fiber bundle), and high-grade polyurethane resins as raw materials, using needle punched nonwoven technology of 3D structure, has a lot of similar characters as natural leather, however better physical & chemical performance, has been widely popular around the world. Because of superior performance, WINIW microfiber synthetic leather has been the best leather alternatives and the optimal leather substitute, material, best vegan leather and eco leather, can replace natural leather perfectly!
Compared to natural leather, microfiber synthetic leather has many excellent qualities, such as chemical resistance and physical and mechanical properties. However, preparation of microfiber synthetic leather with a high water vapor transmission rate (WVT), moisture absorption and wearing comfort property is still a challenge. In this study, we prepared thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)/sulfonated polysulfone (SPSf) electrospun nanofibers and applied them to a microfiber synthetic leather base (MSLB). The effects of TPU/SPSf nanofiber content on the structure and properties of the MSLB were investigated. The results indicated that the TPU/SPSf nanofibers with an average diameter of 0.12 µm were well distributed at all directions in the MSLB. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis showed four Tg peaks, further demonstrating the existence of TPU/SPSf nanofibers. With the increase of TPU/SPSf nanofiber content from 0 to 30 wt%, the contact angles decreased gradually from 111.64° to 67.07°, leading to 55.19% improvement in the WVT value (from 2868.96 to 4452.24 g/(m2•24 h)) and 26.25% improvement in the moisture absorption (from 628.70% to 793.75% mm/s). Simultaneously, when the nanofiber content was 30 wt%, the nanofibers tended to bundle and 6.79% decrement of air permeability was observed. Specifically, the softness of the MSLB was improved by 88.55%. Moreover, the thermal stability and the tear strength were also obviously enhanced. Consequently, this research provided a feasible and promising way to prepare a high-performance MSLB using TPU/SPSf nanofibers.
The difficulty in dyeing microfiber base filled with ordinary polyurethane presents a significant challenge in maintaining the uniformity and highly realistic appearance of the resulting products. In the present study, a type of acid-dyeable polyurethane (PU-MDEA; MDEA=N-methyldiethanolamine) was synthesized, and its chemical structure and dyeing properties were investigated. Nuclear magnetic resonance analysis indicated that cationic groups were successfully incorporated into the PU-MDEA backbone via chain extension using MDEA. The amorphous nature of PU-MDEA was determined by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and polarizing optical microscopy. Owing to the strong binding between these cationic groups and acid dye, as well as the reduced resistance to dye penetration, PU-MDEA showed better dyeability toward the acid dyes studied herein when compared with the control sample (microfiber synthetic leather filled with ordinary polyurethane). The adsorption isotherm experiment revealed that the dyeing process conformed to the Langmuir model, thereby indicating that the acid dyes attached to PU-MDEA via strong ionic bonding rather than van der Waals forces or hydrogen bonding. Additionally, it was found that the wastewater resulting from the dyeing of the microfiber synthetic leather filled with PU-MDEA exhibited environmentally friendly characteristics when compared with that displayed by the control sample (microfiber synthetic leather filled with ordinary polyurethane). Thus, the current results show the potential of PU-MDEA, as a filler, in the manufacture of microfiber synthetic leather to achieve fast dyeing rate, high dye uptake, and good color fastness, thereby improving the uniformity and highly realistic appearance of the resulting products.
Bonded leather is called ‘leather’ because it incorporates scraps of leather remnants, which comprise between 10-20% of its content. The scraps of leather are made into a pulp and stuck to a fibre or paper backer which is then coated with polyurethane and embossed to give it the appearance of genuine leather.
The price of an article is an immediate indication as to whether you are buying genuine leather. At a glance, bonded leather may look like the real thing but it will feel thin to the touch and will lack the softness of real leather, it may also exude a chemical smell.
WHAT IS BONDED LEATHER MATCH?
This term refers to the ability of bonded leather manufacturers to replicate the appearance of real leather, although it is likely that the product may be dyed in a striking range of unnatural colours.
For most people this will be a choice dictated by the comparative low cost of the product; some may choose bonded leather because it can be regarded as environmentally friendly, in so much as it uses left overs and does not involve additional farming and, potentially, reduces landfill. The product is also easy to clean and is likely to come in a wide range of design options.
Bonded leather should be wiped with a clean damp cloth and wiped dry with a different cloth. Spilt liquids should be cleaned immediately but no detergents or abrasive cleaners should be used. Non-alkaline cleaners and non-detergent soaps can be used but the material should always be tested for colour fastness on a small unobtrusive area first.
HOW DURABLE IS BONDED LEATHER?
Bonded leather is not a durable product. Generally, furniture made from bonded leather is likely to peel and crack within two to five years.
WHAT CAUSES BONDED LEATHER TO PEEL AND CRACK?
Bonded leather is a non-elastic material; therefore, it has a tendency to crack with use, strips of polyurethane and leather will then start to peel away from the backing.
WHY IS BONDED LEATHER BAD?
Compared with leather, bonded leather has a very short lifespan. It is prone to cracking and peeling and once it has deteriorated beyond a certain point it is impossible to repair. Although a bonded leather may be cheaper than real leather, it’s short life span means that in the long run the cost of replacing a bonded leather item can be more expensive. There is also the argument that this also makes it less environmentally friendly.
HOW TO REPAIR BONDED LEATHER
There are repair kits on the market which enable you to make small repairs to bonded leather. The affected area must be sanded to remove any protruding bits of leather, a patch can then be dyed to match or the fabric under the peel can be dyed and sealed to stop further peeling. The resulting repair will be noticeable but will be an improvement.
HOW TO FIX BONDED LEATHER SCRATCHES
First clean the area with a white cloth to ensure that no dye is transferred. Then mix a leather repair solution together with an appropriate tint. Add a small quantity of the mixture to the affected area and around the affected area. Then place leather grained paper, supplied with the kit, over the area and gently iron with a warm iron, this will transfer the pattern to the repair. Be careful to ensure that the iron is not too hot because it may discolour or damage the bonded leather. For minor scratches, it may be possible to affect a repair with the use of shoe polish. You should also check any new products on a small inconspicuous area of the leather item first.
Top Grain leather is the second highest grade quality of leather and is the lower part of the top layer of the hide. One removed it is sanded and refinished. It comes in two grades, aniline, which is natural soft leather which is vulnerable to stains and semi-aniline which has a protective coating. Top Grain leather is comprised of twelve to fourteen percent water and consequently it adjusts to body temperature: it is cool in summer and warm in winter. With bonded leather the reverse is the case.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS REAL LEATHER
Real Leather, also referred to as Genuine Leather is the third grade of leather, taken from the lower, thinner layer of the hide. The surface is then reworked to resemble a higher-grade leather. It is not as tough as Full grain leather or Top Grain leather but is considerably more durable than bonded leather.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS FAUX LEATHER
Faux leather, sometimes referred to as Pleather, contains no animal products and is made from polyurethane. It can be embossed with any texture and looks and feels like genuine leather. It is water resistant and easy to clean. Unlike bonded leather it does not crack or fade in sunlight, it is however, easy to tear or puncture. It is also considered less environmentally friendly due to the chemicals and toxins used in its production – although this varies depending on the exact process and materials used to produce it.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS DURABLEND
Durablend is a low-cost leather alternative, similar to bonded leather and comprising of 57% polyurethane, 26% poly/cotton and 17% leather shavings. It is the trademark product of Ashley Furniture. Customer reviews suggest that it shares similar weaknesses with bonded leather in so much as it scratches easily and is prone to cracking.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS VINYL
Polyvinyl chloride, popularly known as Vinyl or PVC is a faux leather which has been produced since the 1940’s by chemical companies like DuPont. It is used for shoes, car interiors and upholstery. Not as breathable as bonded leather, skin tends to stick to its surface, which makes it unpleasant seating in hot weather, it is easy to clean and maintain. Like bonded leather it cracks with use and is easy to puncture.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS MICROFIBER
A much more sophisticated form of faux leather: polyurethane resin and ultra- fine microfiber leather for automotive are combined to replicate the microscopic structure of leather. The complexity of its construction mean that it is more expensive than other faux products but it does have a number of advantages over bonded leather. It doesn’t scratch or tear and is non-fading. It breathes like real leather but it also has ant -bacteria and anti-mildew properties. Unlike bonded leather it is completely odourless.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS REXINE
Rexine is the registered trademark of a British artificial leather which has been produced since the 1920’s. Essentially a cloth backing is coated with cellulose nitrate and embossed to produce the illusion of leather. Primarily used for car interiors this is now regarded as retro faux leather and as such is sort out by collectors.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS BICAST
Bicast is constructed using a split leather backing to which a layer of polyurethane is applied. The surface is then embossed to give the appearance of leather. It shares many of the qualities of bonded leather: it has a consistent texture and is easy to clean and maintain but it doesn’t breathe like leather and it lacks strength and durability.
BONDED LEATHER VERSUS LEATHERETTE
Leatherette is a plastic based synthetic leather. Unlike bonded leather it does not scratch and it does not fade in sunlight. Like most faux leather, it does not breathe and is unpleasant next to the skin. Although it might be the preferred choice of those who don’t like to use animal products, it is made from non- biodegradable, non-renewable materials and is therefore considered less environmentally friendly.

“don't send me no angel, this city's too cold
cause I need a man with a black heart of gold
don't give me no lover, if he ain't got the stones
cause I need a man who will fight for his own.”
The sun was setting by the time I passed the Charming welcome sign. It hadn’t been hard spotting Charming in a map. Making my way there wasn’t hard either. It was an hour and a half drive through the I-580 according to Google Maps but I made it in a little less than an hour on my bike.
I would have left first thing in the morning if I wasn’t so damn tired. Those corpses Jimmy left for me took forever to clean up. Pieces of brain scattered everywhere -- I even found some on a far back wall -- and I had to make sure there was no evidence left behind.
I had taken an extremely long and necessary shower once I got to my loft, at almost 7am. I crashed on my bed totally naked afterwards, almost 9 in the morning then, still partially wet from my shower.
My whole body was sore from dismembering and carrying body parts and it took me forever to find a comfortable position in bed and finally sleep. I woke up at 4pm still feeling like shit. I tossed and turned all throughout my sleep and I hardly felt rested. This time, I blamed the nightmares on too much wine and on Taco Bell’s fat filled food -- but I knew better. I pushed it to the back of mind though. I could wallow in guilt later. Meeting my real father was more important than rethinking my sins.
Still, the guilt spoke louder and I found myself praying Our Father as I took the turn to leave I-580 and enter Charming town. I would have held the cross on my necklace if my hands weren’t on the clutch. My faith helped me constantly with my line of work and I always calmed down a little when I prayed. It would be good if I could find a church in Charming. I didn’t need to confess. Sunday mass was enough for me.
This time, however, I got a tad too distracted with my praying. I lost my grip on the bike for a second and I swayed on the street, earning several warning honks from cars. The honks startled me and I brusquely tried to straighten the motorcycle. A van had been trying to pass me on the right and when I swerved back into my lane it hit my side, sending me and the bike sliding against the road.
I landed on my side with my bike pinning me down. It took me a second to register the pain and start cursing. My left leg, the one under the bike, burned like a motherfucker and my left shoulder took most of the impact for my body. The car behind me hit the brakes, putting me face to face with its front bumper. There was big sticker on it that read ‘Jesus is my car insurance’. I doubted Jesus would cover the wreck if the guy had ran me over.
It was so ridiculous and ironic that I started laughing. God really had my back. I removed my helmet and threw it to the side still laughing.
“God fucking dammit,” I muttered to myself as I chuckled.
I looked down, trying to see the damage and wondering how much strength I would need to lift my Harley. As I tried to sit up so I could wiggle out from beneath the bike, I noticed three men jumping from their own Harleys and running my way. Bikers always helped it each other when it came to road troubles. Drivers rarely gave a shit, like the van driver who just took off after I went down.
“Hey hey, hold on,” called the first man ahead. He removed his helmet, revealing a mass of blonde hair.
I stopped moving so he and the other two men could lift my motorcycle.
“One, two, three,” the blonde guy counted and they pulled it up. I breathed out in relief once its weight was off me. The man with a big belly — made of beer and fried food, I supposed — kicked the footrest down so my bike could be propped up.
The third guy strode to me, offering me his gloved hand. I couldn’t see much of his face because the setting sun was right behind him, making him a silhouette. I grabbed my helmet with one hand before letting him pull me up to my feet.
I cursed under my breath once I was up. Pain flashed from my knee to my thigh and I stumbled. The man that pulled me up put his arm around me so I wouldn’t fall and I swung my arm around his shoulders so I could rest my weight on him.
“Ye okay, lass?” He asked. I looked curiously at him, trying to put a face to the Scottish accent, but the sun was in my eyes.
“Can’t say for sure,” I replied. I twisted my body a little so I could have a look at my leg. There was a mixture of red, black and grey and it took me a second to realise it was blood, asphalt and the colour of my jeans. It wasn’t gushing blood but it looked ugly. “Yeah, I’ll be fine, had worse before.”
“What happened?” Asked the blonde.
“I got distracted, it was my fault,” I explained. “Is she alright?” I pointed at my bike.
The fat guy checked it out from behind his blue sunglasses. “Yeah, she’s good. You took most of the fall. There’s a few scratches but we can fix it for you.”
Before I could say anything, the driver from the Crown Vic, the one with Jesus insurance, honked loudly at us. Fair enough, we were standing in the middle of the road but I had had an accident and I was hurt. I leaned past my Scottish saviour so I could give the driver my middle finger. The driver honked again and there was a collective raising of middle fingers from all of us this time and a loud “fuck off” from the fat guy.
“C’mon, let’s free up the road for that shithead,” the blonde said, nodding at the Scotsman and helping the other guy steer my Harley to a close lay-by.
I half limped, half hopped my way there with the aid of the man at my side. He was a few of inches taller than me, three or four inches I would guess, and he had to lean down a bit so I could rest my weight on him. I stole a glance at him -- actually, several glances, especially when I realised he was pretty good looking.
“Sit down,” he told me as he unhooked my arm from around him. I did as he said and sat down on my bike, hanging my helmet on the clutch and immediately looking up at him. He removed his sunglasses and met my eyes. I assumed my brain got overflowed with endorphins because I stopped feeling pain. Yeah, he was that hot. Mind numbingly and pain numbingly hot.
I noticed how hot the blonde guy was when he jumped off his bike but he was far too pretty for my taste. I liked my men ruggedly handsome, older and -- well from now on -- Scottish.
I stared at him and he stared right back. He had scars across his cheeks, I noticed -- hard to miss actually, and somehow it made him look sexier. It added to the whole dangerous and mysterious vibe he put out. He had a kutte on over a brown button-up shirt and I could read the patches if I squinted enough. Sons of Anarchy, Sgt. At Arms, Redwood Original. I stopped staring for a second so I could have a quick look at the other two men. All of them wore kuttes and the blonde one had a President patch. Rescued by a motorcycle club. Neat.
I turned my gaze back to the Scotsman. He tilted his head, his dark eyes meeting mine as a lopsided smile played on his lips. He was watching me with interest. In fact, I’d say he was checking me out. Good. I wasn’t being discreet about it -- when was I ever discreet with my flirting? Never, that’s when. I was laying on the ground a minute ago and here I was, lusting after my rescuer. And oh, there was a lot to lust after according to his tight jeans. I tried not to stare too hard at his crotch but it was difficult, especially because I was sat and he was right in front of me.
I managed to unglue my eyes from his junk and meet his eyes with a smirk. The blonde man cleared his throat. He was trying to hide his smile but he wasn’t being very good at it.
“Sorry. You said you guys can fix my bike for me?” I asked, trying to brush off the flirting.
“Yeah, there’s only a few scratches. We can paint it over at T-M but it’ll ruin the original paint job,” the guy with the blue glasses stepped forward as he spoke. He had long greying hair and a beard.
“T-M?”
“Teller-Morrow Automotive, our auto-shop,” the Scot supplied.
I felt all blood leave my face.
Of fucking course. I came to Charming looking for my real dad, knowing his name, where he worked and that he was criminal. And now I was face to face with bikers, probably criminals, who owned the place my father worked in. I knew I was bound to meet some uncomfortable truths about my dad but actually realising how close to it I was, scared me. Not only that, but I was flirting with some guy who could very well be my dad. He looked old enough.
Jesus. What if he was my dad? That would be extremely weird. But he couldn’t be my dad. My mother said I looked like him and I had nothing in common with the Scotsman.
I had to just get on with it and ask.
“You happen to know an Alexander Trager then?”
At first they stared at me, their eyebrows twitching as if they expected me to say more. When I didn’t, all three of them shifted on their feet while exchanging looks. None of them reacted to the name as someone would if they heard their own name, which calmed me a little.
“What’s yer name?” The Scotsman crossed his arms over his chest, all traces of his flirting gone.
“Giulia,” I said. He cocked his right eyebrow in response, prompting me to say more. “Giulia Lucchese.” He looked at the other two and they shook their heads. “Look, I get that you don’t know me but I just wanna talk to Trager.”
“Why?” the blonde asked, his baby blue eyes piercing mine.
It wasn’t hard to tell they were suspicious of me. I would be too if some stranger came around my town asking for a friend of mine.
I took a deep breath before opening my mouth.
“Because he’s my father.”
Blondie and Scot raised their eyebrows and Blue Sunglasses let out a chuckle. Life would be a bit easier right now if I at least knew their names. It’d be nice to be on first name basis if they were gonna judge me.
“Jesus fucking Christ,” Blondie said, running a hand over his face. “Unbelievable.”
“It’s not that hard to believe, Jax,” Blue Sunglasses scoffed. “It was bound to happen. The way Tig fucks around... I knew some lost kid was gonna pop up someday,” he shook his head to the sides, laughing. His eyes analysed me and he stopped laughing as if he just realised something. “You said Lucchese?” I nodded. “Ain’t that fucking great?” he looked up at the sky as if he was cursing God.
“What?” I asked along with Scot and Blondie (or Jax).
“Lucchese, as in Bianca Lucchese,” my eyebrows shot up upon hearing my mom’s name. “Remember her, Chibs?” Blue Sunglasses stopped so he could look at Scot. Chibs was his name? I doubted it, probably a nickname.
“Shit. Aye, I remember her. But now she’s… Fuck. Tig sure chooses them well.” He smoothed his greying hair back with both hands, looking frustrated.
“What?!” Jax shouted, his blonde eyebrows furrowed. Apparently he wasn’t a fan of being kept out of the loop. I was right with him in this one.
“Ye were a kid, Jackie boy. Ye don’t remember her. Bianca, yer mum,” he eyed me for a second, “was drivin’ on 580 when her car broke down and she called T-M fer a tow. Tig and Bobby went to pick her up…” he stopped and looked at Blue Sunglasses, who I deduced was Bobby.
“Bianca was real pretty. Italian accent. Tig was onto her the moment she spoke,” Bobby explained, rolling his eyes. I leaned forward, my injured leg long forgotten, eager to hear the details of how my mother and father met. I knew nothing, I’d take any information those bikers had to give me. “We fixed her car but she stayed in Charming for a month because of Tig. Bianca broke things up because Tig was divorcing Colleen and then she left to Oakland. Pregnant apparently,” he pointed at me. “Since Giulia is here now.”
“So? What’s the problem?” Jax asked.
“Bianca’s married to Jimmy Cacuzza now. Which makes her,” Bobby pointed one fat finger at me again, “Jimmy’s stepdaughter and italian mob.”
“No I’m not,” I replied instantly. Took me a second to realise they knew Jimmy Cacuzza. More than that, they knew he was mafia. The name meant something to them and right now it meant trouble. At best they had a good relationship with Jimmy and my, well, existing put them at odds. “Yes, I’m his stepdaughter but I have nothing to do with the mob.” Okay, I was sorta lying. “Look,” I stood up, ignoring the flash of pain that coursed through my leg, “until yesterday I didn’t know who my father was. I came here to get to know him, I don’t want to cause any problems. You guys clearly have, uh, a relationship with Jimmy and I don’t wanna get caught in between that. It’s not my fault who my mom fucked or who she got married to,” I shrugged. “I just wanna meet my real dad and if he doesn’t want to talk to me, that’s fine. I’ll just go back to Oakland if that happens. But I’m not leaving until I get to at least see him.”
For a moment we all stared at each other. The sun had finished setting, leaving the California sky in a purplish shade. With the sun gone, the wind started picking up and the blood on my leg became cold as it dried. Headlights from cars passing on the I-580 were the the only source of light.
Finally, Jax nodded.
“Fine but you only get to talk to him after we’re sure you’re his daughter.”
“I’ll take a DNA test if you want me to,” I replied, sitting down again. I could have leaped in joy but my leg stopped me from doing that and I was not doing that in front of badass bikers. “I want to be sure, too.”
“Yeah, yeah. Until then, you’re not leaving our sight,” I was sure he was using his threatening voice, yet it had little effect on me. I just stared back. “Can you ride?” He looked from my leg to my bike.
“I’m good for riding but I should probably get this looked at later,” I said.
“My old lady is a doctor, she can check it out for you,” he walked to his bike, a Dyna Super Glide, and picked up his helmet. “You follow us out,” he commanded. No shit he was President, the man ordered people around like it was nothing. He could’ve said it nicely and I would follow them out anyway.
I was getting up to swing my leg over my Iron 883 when Chibs stepped forward, grazing my shoulder lightly with his hand.
“Yer leg’s still bleedin’. Ye have anythin’ to tie around it?” He frowned as he looked at the wound.
I could have drooled at this point. Not only was he hot, he was also caring. He was actually concerned about my leg. Yeah, he was making me horny with only that and that was a good skill to have.
“I have an old shirt in my saddlebag, you can use that,” I managed to say, pointing at the studded saddlebag attached to my motorcycle.
He bent down so he could open the saddlebag and retrieve my old over-sized Ozzy Osbourne shirt. I usually slept with it but apparently I wasn’t using it tonight, since it was going to be covered in blood. He united the two sleeves before squatting down in front of me. He wrapped it around my leg, staring dead straight into my eyes with his eyebrows arched. I bit my lip to stifle my smile as I watched him.
“Not how I imagined you going down on me,” I quipped. His hands stopped for a moment as he looked up at me, a grin appearing on his face. Bobby and Jax laughed as they mounted their bikes and then Chibs chuckled too. He finished tying my shirt and made sure the knot was secured.
“No need for a DNA test, Jax,” Bobby told him but he was looking at me. “After that one, she’s definitely Tig’s kid.”
Jax nodded, chuckling as he started his bike and soon his and Bobby’s laugh were drowned out by the Harleys’ powerful engines. I meant to ask what he meant by that -- was my dad a horndog like I was? -- but Chibs still had my attention.
He offered me my helmet after getting back on his feet and then leaned forward and gave me a wink paired with a smile. On top of everything else, he had dimples. To say my panties were soaked would be an understatement.
“Try to keep up with us, love,” he told me before turning his back on me and heading towards his own bike. His kutte had a nice design on the back with a reaper and an AK-47.
I tilted my head, my eyes fixed on his ass as he strode. Nice junk and a nice ass. He alone was reason enough for me stick around awhile. But I came to Charming with a purpose and that was to find my dad -- not a lover. I wouldn’t complain if it happened, though.

5 Lessons About dıs cephe temizlik You Can Learn From Superheroes
For example, you won't provide winterization or lock changing, however it's possible you'll concentrate on debris removing and lawn care. I do know that an enameled pan interior has its cooking/cleaning benefit as with Dutch ovens, however does just an enameled exterior offer something like that? Residence cook able to make the leap to forged iron, I used to be simply at IKEA and saw that the SENIOR solid iron pan with an enameled exterior and the VARDAGEN all forged iron pan were both offered at the identical value. Getting any vessel ready to splash after months of sitting idle isn't any small task. Splash on a lick of paint to refresh up a worn exterior and clear home windows, sills, panes, etc. Clear them proficiently and effortlessly. About each other journey, I clean the gun Earlier than I'm going to the vary. If I went a lot longer than that, I'd do some light clear up of the exterior and test the slide in between vary journeys. To take away light mildew wash your composite deck periodically with a cleaner that incorporates or is blended with Sodium Hypochlorite.
Tumblr media
With a bit more time on my fingers dış cephe temizlik now I wash my automotive a bit greater than I used to, this has coincided with me getting a brand new 2nd hand automobile so I might like to holding it looking like new. I've started cleansing some stuff at dwelling - exterior doorknobs, taps, kitchen cabinet pulls, kettle & Brita pitcher handles - and that i wash my palms very first thing after i come home. On nearer examination I saw what I believed at first to be delamination, or bubbling, beginning along the aspect edges and on the entrance decrease corner of the glass. Wipe inside of lower with cotton patches. If your own home does not look good from the skin, patrons are going to consider it doesn't look good on the inside either, so they will simply drive away, or not click on in your online itemizing to see the interior images. All-weather ground mats are customary as well, to make cleansing up mud and grime more manageable. These corporations have equipments which are specially made for cleaning in order that they do that job effectively and quickly. I might have stated that that is 'overkill', however increasingly I am not so certain. I've a very comparable course of myself. A few more things: A can of compressed air if you do not have a compressor. A number of of the opposite websites are MyLParts and LexusPartsNow. The heavier grade of blue paper store towels on a roll ain't dangerous, either, but the Rags in a Field are even higher. Consider exterior grade wood products as a hybrid of those two phrases. I ponder how many cases we’re going to see of homeowners damaging their interiors from using the unsuitable merchandise to disinfect. I'm utilizing a hospital-grade spray from Claire (a sub-division of Spray-Approach) called Disinfectant Spray Q for sanitizing exterior door handles on my autos, however that is it. Spray a little bit of that onto a toothbrush, clean the ridges and high cart clips. Spray it from top all of the method to the bottom.
Query: Do I want workmen's compensation insurance, and if that's the case, is there a method around it, because I cannot have any workers. Staff' Compensation ("Employees' Comp") covers your staff' medical and disability bills related to work-related sickness and on-the-job injuries. So first of them is preserving the seat covers clean. The primary feature to think about is the ability supply and battery life. DIY cleansing could also be a well-liked development, but it may not always offer you the desired outcomes. Check out this list of valuable gifts that your average Volvo owner would enjoy.
Iron-on elbow patches for their tweed jackets
A replacement PCV system for whatever car they're driving (whatever it is, it needs a PCV)
"Macpherson Struts Anonymous" membership
Monthly subscription to new motor mounts
Wrist-altering surgery to allow them to service heater cores
Miniature Swedish flags and honorary "Swede Name" (available from Swedish embassies, name is legally binding)
Automotive primary wire and wiring harness connectors

9 Weird and Wacky Cars From the 2019 Woodward Dream Cruise
Whether it’s an upside-down-and-backwards van (2017) or a wrought-iron wicker Beetle (2018), the annual Woodward Dream Cruise serves as the perfect gallery for displaying the latest masterpieces of America’s most creative automotive artistes. This year, more than a million patrons of the automotive arts were treated to a T-Bucket skull-mobile, a rolling bowling pin, a gigantic shopping cart, and a whole lot more.
BJ’s Wholesale Club Shopping Cart
Late Friday, MotorTrend Detroit Editor Alisa Priddle caught the first glimpse. “I think I saw a giant shopping cart!” she said. It was far on the other side of the boulevard and she was driving, so there was no photographic evidence, but this immediately became our great white whale. Our gotta-have. This year’s equivalent of the upside-down-and-backwards GMC Rally van we sought out in years past.
We set out Saturday morning at 8 a.m. to stalk Woodward in search of our prey. At about 9:30, we had our first sighting. It was northbound, we were southbound, and it took us an excruciating eternity to get through the lights, turn around, and head back north. But about 20 minutes later, we spotted the high-rise hot rod shopping cart, and even lucked out getting stopped alongside it at a light. Built from scratch with a 350 Chevy engine for power, the driver sits up where the kiddoes go in a real cart. The chassis and engine look like textbook T-bucket hot rod fare, with a superstructure of gray steel tubing on top. Name This Car!
It’s darned infrequently that we senior MotorTrend staffers encounter a car we’ve never seen, so when it happens, we circle the block and pull in to find out more. This one, it turns out, is from Brazil. It uses a rear-mounted Volkswagen engine and VW wheels, and is based on a shortened VW Brasilia chassis. Yes, it’s Brazilian. This 1989 Puma AM4 (signifying it was built after Alfa Metais Veiculos purchased Puma in 1988) is powered by a VW 1600 engine. One of only 43 total AM3 (coupe) and AM4 (roadster) models built, it’s a rare bird. This one has only covered 3,400 miles, and the owner is willing to part with it for $14,000.
The Go Bowling Pin Car
There’s a T-bucket chassis and 400-hp 302-cubic-inch V-8 somewhere deep inside this rolling bowling pin. It was created to build awareness of and enthusiasm for the recreational sport of bowling and was inspired by an original bowling pin car built in the late ’30s on a Ford chassis. If you missed it here, you can catch it at the Toledo Mud Hens game on August 18-19, or on September 18-20 in Richmond, Virginia, at the Professional Women’s Bowling Association championship.
Skele-T-Bucket
Many T-Bucket hot rods look alike. How do you differentiate yours? Build yourself a cockpit that looks like a giant skull and put red lights in the eyes. We drove by later and noted that the owner had installed a skeleton in the driver’s seat. Creativity is king on Woodward!
1958 RanchEdsel
Brand enthusiasts are forever righting their favored brands’ errors of omission by creating variants that look cool but don’t have a sound business case. In this case: an Edsel pickup truck based on the Ford Ranchero. The front-clip sheet metal and trim bolt on pretty easily, as do the taillamps. Then there’s just a bit of patching holes for Ford side trim and sourcing rear side trim from a two-door Edsel Roundup wagon to complete the look. This owner then saw fit to lower the suspension. Pretty cool.
Self-Immolation Truck
This crazy loud hot-rod truck was caught plying the Avenue sans front clip or mufflers, from the sound of it. You can see that the exhausts empty out right at the doors; you can’t see that each one has a couple of spark plugs for operating the uber-important flame-thrower function. The system clearly works, as it has seared the paint off both doors. Also please note that a couple ’59 Cadillacs gave their taillamps for this beast.
Saws, Scythe, and Boar’s Head Truck
We’re not sure what kind of reaping—grim or otherwise—this thing is designed to do, but check out the circular sawblades bolted to the wheel centers, the scythe mounted above the rear window, and the taxidermy boar’s head mounted out back. Other notable touches include the license-plate-clad pickup box and the bushel bags decorating the tailgate and door inner (one for California potatoes, the other for Jamaica Brand cannabis).
Amphicar Ducky
We just had to include this shot of an Amphicar rolling in the Berkley CruiseFest Classic Car Parade (with propellers spinning). Note how the giant rubber duck’s expression suggests he’s dubious as to whether this thing could even keep HIM safe in the water…
C7 Stretch Corvette Limo
We’re not sure how many people can crawl through those back doors and into whatever seating is provided behind those super-dark windows, but it’s a sure bet that once seated they’ll be able to get to their bachelorette party in plenty of time to catch the cop-stripper act. (We’re guessing our Drift This colleagues wish they’d picked THIS as their stretch-limo drift challenge-mobile).

The motivation behind this masterpiece is promotion of Massachusetts-based BJ’s Wholesale Club (a Sam’s Club/Costco competitor), which is opening two locations in the Detroit metroplex in late 2019.  CUMMINS VS POWER STROKE VS DURAMAX: THE HEAVY DUTY DIESEL BATTLE
Heavy Duty Mobile Diesel Mechanic Las Vegas Henderson: Not so long ago, diesel engines were considered totally unsuitable for cars and pickup trucks. With their tractor-like sounds, heavy vibrations, and noxious black exhaust smoke, they were simply not refined enough.
Today’s modern diesel engines are a whole different story. These machines have numerous strong points, with low fuel consumption being just one of them. The application of variable turbochargers and sophisticated fuel injection systems have enabled a wide torque range and faster throttle response, while offering a considerable engine noise and vibration reduction. And in the end, various exhaust treatment systems have eliminated unpleasant smells and black smoke from the tailpipe. As a result, diesel powered vehicles pull strongly from low revs, and exhibit a smooth and civilized engine character. All of this makes them ideal for pulling heavy loads or towing a trailer. It is no surprise to find that diesel engines are a desirable and popular option in modern pickup trucks.
Still, these engines are not without issues.
Although sophisticated fuel and induction systems have improved the overall driving experience, these engines are also less robust, and can be more prone to breakdowns if neglected. High-quality fuel and regular maintenance have become mandatory, as even a small amount of bad fuel can cause irreversible damage to the common rail system. Additionally, the best quality oil is a necessity, as oil vapor and carbon build-ups can jam variable-geometry turbochargers.
If not driven carefully, massive amounts of torque can put an excessive strain to the transmission and drivetrain. This is especially evident in cars with manual transmissions, where flywheels and clutches can fail.
Yet the biggest problem facing diesel engines is the high amount of harmful pollutants in diesel exhaust gases. This need for improved emissions controls has driven diesel engine development over the past ten years. Every few years, new government regulations demand further reductions of harmful emissions. This forces vehicle manufacturers to install more and more complex devices and systems to meet those regulations.
There are several ways to reduce diesel emissions. Diesel Particle Filters (DPF) are used to eliminate soot, but they don’t do anything about nitrogen oxide emissions. This is where either Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) come into play.
General Motors, Ford and Chrysler have diesel engines that they install in their cars, SUVs and trucks. Not only do these state-of-the-art machines have similar engine displacements and power outputs, but they also utilize similar turbochargers, fuel injection, and emission control systems.
But don’t think that there aren’t any noticeable differences between the three of them!
Of these three engine brands, Cummins is by far the oldest. Although generally associated with Ram pickup trucks, this engine is actually designed and manufactured by Cummins Inc., a specialized diesel power-plant manufacturer located in Columbus, Indiana. The current engine is the latest of the B-series engine family, and was introduced in mid-2007. This is a 6.7L straight six unit, with a conventional gray cast iron engine block. Unlike other modern engines, the 4-valve-per-cylinder head is also made from cast iron. The OHV valvetrain is gear driven, so there is no need for timing chains or belts. A relatively low compression ratio enables the usage of a large Holset turbocharger, capable of producing 33 psi of boost. A Bosch common rail system ensures noise reduction and smooth operation. Until 2013, the emission control system utilized DPF and EGR, making DEF fluid unnecessary. In 2013 an SCR system was also added. With a weight of around 1,100 lb, the Cummins is a bit on the heavy side. It is available either with a Chrysler-built six-speed 68RFE automatic transmission, or with a Mercedes G56 6-speed manual.
During 2019, a revised ITB 6.7L engine is available in several heavy duty versions of the Ram. This high-output version has engine block made out of compacted graphite iron, which increases strength without adding weight, forged steel connecting rods and a revised cylinder head. Combined with all new Bosch CP4.2 common rail injection and a modified turbocharger, this new engine is the first of its kind to reach the 1,000 lb.-ft. milestone.
COMMON FAULTS WITH THE CUMMINS ENGINE
·         Clogged Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is a very common problem on earlier 6.7L engines. This is due to the fact that because they do not use an SCR system, these engines tend to operate with a rich air-fuel mixture. This is done to keep the NOx down, but it also generates significantly more particulates and loads-up the DPF much quicker.
·         Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VTG) is a fairly common failure point. As the 6.7L engine was the first Cummins unit that uses variable geometry turbocharger, it is not unusual to have some initial problems. These units have a series of mechanisms that alter the turbine housing geometry. Problems occur when the moving components in the turbine housing become coated with soot and oil; the excessive buildup can prevent the movement of the VGT mechanism. This generally leads to excessive turbo lag or poor top end engine power. The turbocharger unit also tends to fail from various other causes, ranging from leaking oil seals to broken turbine or compressor wheels.
·         Head gasket failures: Unlike its predecessor 5.9L engines, the new 6.7L engine is known to have problems with failing head gaskets. This is caused by higher cylinder pressures, which are required for achieving such a high torque output from a relatively small engine.
·         Fuel dilution: The root cause for excessive fuel dilution is a result of the method by which the engine manages regeneration. This is the process which burns and removes the particulate matter captured in the DPF. In the 6.7L Cummins engine, raw fuel is released into each cylinder during the exhaust stroke, after normal combustion has occurred. Because this fuel sticks to the cylinders, small amounts eventually escape past the cylinder rings and enter the crankcase, contaminating the engine oil.
 HISTORY OF CUMMINS ENGINES
Mobile Cummins Mechanic near me: Although the Cummins automotive diesel engine lineup goes way back to the beginning of the 20th century, we will focus on the units that were installed in the Ram trucks (known as Dodge Ram until 2010).
The 6BT 5.9L 12V engine was first installed in a Dodge Ram truck in 1989, as an alternative to V8 gasoline engines. This engine generated much more low-down torque with a significantly increased fuel economy, and it quickly became a very popular option. Over the years, this engine received many updates to the fuel injection and turbocharging systems. This all-cast iron engine had a 2-valve-per-cylinder head and was turbocharged. While the first models had mechanical direct fuel injection and were not equipped with an intercooler, this was gradually changed. An intercooler was introduced in 1991 to help boost the power, and in 1994 a new P7100 Bosch injection pump replaced the outdated system.
The IBS 5.9L 24V replaced the well-proven 6BT engine in 1998, and was designed to meet updated emissions requirements. It featured many improvements, including an all-new 4-valve-per-cylinder head, and a VP44 Bosch electronic fuel injection system. This resulted in increased power output and performance potential without compromising reliability and durability. Another major update was done in 2003, when the common-rail injection system was introduced. This not only increased power output, but it also dramatically reduced engine noise and vibration, all of which helped it to be selected as one of Ward’s “10 Best Engines” for that year. It is worth noting that this engine was able to meet emission regulations without using either DPF or EGR.
The current 6.7L Power Stroke diesel engine that comes in Ford Super-Duty trucks series is completely built by Ford in-house. Nicknamed the Scorpion, this is Ford’s first venture into the heavy-duty diesel power-plant waters; all previous Power Stroke units had been produced by Navistar. With that in mind, it is only natural that potential buyers were concerned about the reliability of this newly designed powerplant.
Luckily, Ford got everything right with the 6.7L. It offers great performance, fuel economy, and reliability. Maintenance-free timing is done by a chain-driven OHV setup that operates a 4-valve-per-cylinder valvetrain. The engine is quite light. Its block is made from compacted graphite iron, mated to aluminum heads, while the V-8 engine layout ensures compactness.
Power Stroke engines have a unique exhaust and intake setup. Unlike a traditional V-engine, the intake manifolds are located on the outer deck of the cylinder head and the exhaust manifolds exit directly into the engine valley where the turbocharger is mounted. This exhaust flow design increased thermal efficiency of the turbocharger. Another useful feature is a driver-activated engine-exhaust brake, which restricts the exhaust flow. This generates back pressure and slows the vehicle. On the emission control front, this engine utilizes almost every technology available. In addition to a standard DOC, EGR and DPF setup, it also uses SCR to additionally lower NOx content.
These engines come equipped with a 6R140 6-speed automatic transmission, called TorqShift by Ford. Over time, it has proven to be one of the best factory-installed transmissions on the market.
COMMON ISSUES WITH THE POWER STROKE ENGINE: MOBILE POWER STROKE MECHANIC
Most problems with the 6.7L Power Stroke are isolated incidents. Failures or faults have been experienced by a low percentage of owners, particularly on early engines. While some issues are expected from a late model clean-diesel engine, especially one as advanced as the 6.7L Power Stroke, there have been very few major issues with Ford’s new diesel.
·         Radiator failures and general coolant leaks: These are somewhat common on the early 2011 trucks. These trucks have two radiators, with the one closer to the engine developing a leak on the spot where the plastic tank is joined to the metal core. It is also possible to see coolant leaks around the turbocharger area, with coolant inlet fittings being the usual cause.
 ·         Turbo failure: This is one of the most common issues on these engines. The turbocharger on these engines is a fairly complicated unit, and many early 2011-2012 models suffer from various turbo-related problems. The ceramic bearings are the most common failure point.
 ·         EGR System Issues: These occurrences are far less common, when compared to the earlier 6.0 and 6.4 Power Stroke engines. But the problem with the EGR cooler getting clogged by soot still persists. The result is an obstructed exhaust flow and a ‘check engine’ light.
 ·         SCR system: This is a relatively simple device, but it has several weak points. A tank heater element can burn out, or the injector and connecting tubing can clog up. As this system works only at high exhaust temperatures, the urea solution can crystallize if you have frequent short journeys. Additionally, the NOx sensor can break or give false readings.
 ·         Glow Plug Failure: This is potentially the most dangerous weak point on the 2011 trucks. The problem lies within the glow plugs, which can break off. In most cases, this causes catastrophic engine damage. Newer trucks have updated glow plugs, and do not suffer this issue.
 ·         Fuel System Failure: This can be caused by internal deterioration of the high-pressure fuel pump. When this happens, debris is spread throughout the entire fuel system, requiring a new pump, injectors, and pressure regulators. To prevent this, be extremely careful about the fuel you use, and change the fuel filters regularly.
 ·         NOx sensor: This was a extremely common failure on 2011 trucks. A faulty NOx sensor can, in some cases, cause engine power reduction. Most of these sensors were replaced during their early years of service.
Mobile Duramax mechanic Las Vegas Henderson: The Duramax, GM’s entry in the growing heavy-duty diesel engine segment, entered the stage quite late, compared to Ford and Ram. But even its first version, released in 2001, featured  advanced solutions, like common rail fuel injection and aluminum heads. Although it was speculated that the L5P would be developed from scratch, the general layout was left unchanged, keeping both the displacement and the V8 arrangement.
To keep up with the competition, this engine uses a cast iron block with hardened cylinder walls, mated to aluminum 4-valves-per-cylinder heads. Much like its Ford counterpart, it uses a chain driven OHV setup, with pushrods and a camshaft in the block. An electronically-controlled variable-geometry turbocharger, in combination with a high-efficiency air-to-air intercooler, increases the torque throughout the RPM range. The newest generation Denso common rail fuel injection, capable of achieving fuel pressures up to 29,000 psi, brings down the fuel consumption and noticeably reduces engine noise.
Starting the Duramax in extreme cold is much easier with its all-new ceramic glow plugs, designed to reduce preheat times. Exhaust treatments include EGR, DPF and SCR, to ensure that the strict emission regulations are met. This engine is only available with a well proven Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission.
COMMON ISSUES WITH THE DURAMAX ENGINE: DURAMAX ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE
·         Fuel starvation: This is usually caused by air in the fuel lines. The root of the problem is the fuel filter housing design and the absence of the fuel lift pump. Duramax engines use a high pressure fuel pump, which vacuums fuel from the tank. In many cases, air seeps in, either through a small crack on the fuel filter housing, or through a bad housing o-ring. It can also be relatively difficult to prime the fuel system once air has been introduced into the system, such as when the fuel filter is changed.
·         Cooling issues: These are  quite common on Duramax engines, with a faulty coolant pump being the main problem area. The problems seem to be caused by a poor factory design. As a preventive measure, the coolant pump is best replaced at 80,000 – 100,000 mile intervals. It is also possible to experience various other overheating problems, caused by either a dirty radiator or a faulty fan clutch.
·         Injection system: This can be the source of several problems. In general, the Duramax fuel injectors are quite sensitive to contamination, and may fail prematurely if poor quality fuel is used. Proper maintenance and regular fuel filter changes are very important. Another possible weak point is an injector harness that chafes over time. When the wires become exposed, a number of issues can occur, including a no-start, rough running, and lack of power.
·         The design of the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system: This has proved to be a bit troublesome, as it can vent the crankcase pressure into the intake. Over time, engine oil fumes build up within the intercooler and connecting tubing. This can result in clogging, as well as intercooler tubing deterioration.
·         The SCR system: This is a relatively simple device, but it has several weak points. The in-tank heater element can burn out, or the injector and connecting tubing can clog up. As this system works only at high exhaust temperatures, the urea solution can crystallize after frequent short trips. The NOx sensor can also break or give false readings.
THE HISTORY OF DURAMAX ENGINES: MOBILE DURMAX REPAIR SERVICES
Whatever its year or generation, every Duramax is a 6.6L V8 unit. Unlike Cummins or Ford, who altered key engine features such as displacement, cylinder head design or fuel injection throughout the years, GM has retained the same general layout from the beginning.
The LB7 was the first Duramax engine, first introduced in year 2001. Not only was it the first engine to utilize Bosch common-rail injection, but it also had aluminum multi-valve cylinder heads. Additionally, it managed to be ahead of the emissions regulations of the time. Even better, it was very reliable and economical. It was no surprise, then, that the Duramax LB7 was among Ward’s “10 Best Engines” in both 2001 and 2002.
The LLY replaced the very successful LB7 during 2004, with stricter emissions standards as the primary reason for its introduction. It featured an EGR system and a variable vane geometry (VVG) turbocharger, which provided noticeably improved performance characteristics, compared to a fixed geometry turbo.
The LBZ replaced the LLY in year 2006, and is almost identical. The only notable change was an increased power output, achieved by more aggressive fuel injection tuning. This Duramax variant was used only for a short period time, and was replaced during model year 2007.
The LMM was a further iteration of a LLY/LBZ platform, debuting during the 2007 model year. This model introduced a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system to meet Federal emissions regulations. Aside from the addition of the DPF, the LMM was nearly identical to the LBZ. The DPF resulted in a reduction of particulate emissions by 90 percent. The downside was noticeably higher fuel consumption, largely due to the periodic regeneration cycles needed to clean the particulate filter. By this point, a manual transmission was no longer available, with the Allison 1000 six-speed automatic being the only option.
The LML Duramax was introduced in 2011, using 60% newly-designed components, compared to the previous generation Duramax. As with previous versions, it featured several emission control upgrades. The most important was the addition of an SCR system, or diesel exhaust fluid injection. This simple and well-proven system helped reduce nitrogen oxide emission levels by 63 percent over the LMM engine. Among other improvements was the introduction of the “9th injector” system, which supplied fuel for the DPF regeneration directly into exhaust system. All of these modifications resulted in not only reduced emissions, but also in increased fuel economy.
CONCLUSION: CUMMINS VS POWER STROKE VS DURAMAX – WHICH IS BETTER?
As you can see, all three engines have roughly similar power outputs, despite various design and layout differences. What makes them very different is how all of this power and torque are delivered and used. With a slightly higher power output, Power Stroke and Duramax powered trucks predictably offer a noticeably better acceleration and somewhat better overall pace. Cummins, on the other hand, delivers more torque, especially in its high-output version. With 1,000 lb⋅ft, it is a true leader of the pack when it comes to towing. Being a straight-6 engine, it is less complex and in many cases easier to maintain. In other words, Chevy and Ford are faster diesel trucks than the equivalent Ram, but the Ram outruns them when it comes to towing.
A Final Word
Let’s talk about about reliability and running costs. It is frequently argued that modern diesel engines are less reliable and have much higher running costs, compared to older versions. Undoubtedly, the added complexity of today’s fuel injection, turbocharging and exhaust treatment systems does increase this possibility. Still, the main reason for the poor reliability myth is due to the fact that these sophisticated engines are far less forgiving of neglect. As with all modern engines, the key to longevity is proper maintenance. Using high quality fuel, performing regular service, using the recommended oil and filters, and practicing good driving habits, will increase the lifespan of any engine.
