“I’m wearing Heaven by Marc Jacobs boots and dress, cardigan from Isalis, belt from Unfashional, Kiko Kostadinov x Heaven by Marc Jacobs purse, and Marc Jacobs sunglasses. I work for Marc Jacobs if you can’t tell. What inspires my style is my time growing up in South America & Paris and being influenced by how well dressed everyone always was.”

Dr. Martens x Heaven by Marc Jacobs SS22 Collection
Dr. Martens’ latest collaboration with Heaven by Marc Jacobs creative director Ava Nirui puts a rebellious, ‘90s subculture-inspired twist on the classic Mary Jane silhouette, associated with girlhood for over a century, and a classic 2-strap sandal.
The feminine styling of both models is offset by their substantial platform soles – the 1.5-inch Bex sole on the Addina DS Bex, and the 1.6-inch Quad Neoteric platform sole for the Ricki Sandal – giving their silhouettes extra visual weight. Both models feature contrasting brushed metal buckles adorned with Heaven by Marc Jacobs’ signature double-headed teddy bear logo, and the Addina DS Bex model is finished with subversive double yellow welt stitching and Dr. Martens’ classic branded pull tab.
Since its launch in the summer of 2020, Heaven by Marc Jacobs has embodied nostalgia for the youthful rebellion of the 90s — a technicolour manifestation of a binary-defying, forward-facing generation. The latest collaboration with Heaven creative director Ava Nirui explores new ways to play with two DM’s silhouettes that capture the playful, distorted femme edge that defined the 90s — and still captivates today.
The Mary Jane silhouette has been reinvented and reinterpreted again and again since the early 1900s. An effortless slip-on style — often the first shoe worn by children worldwide. And frequently taken as a symbol of girlhood. DM’s have long been a wardrobe mainstay for anyone wanting to challenge conventional feminine dress codes. The new version of the classic T-bar silhouette has roots in the 80s — a rugged rework with durable welted construction and tonnes of attitude. From a traditional school shoe to a subversive staple. Paris runways, grunge gigs, Harajuku streets. And the new Addina Double Stitch Bex dials up the distortion to new levels
The Dr. Martens x Heaven by Marc Jacobs Addina DS Bex HMJ and Ricki Sandal will be available June 6th at DrMartens.com and select partners.

Marc Jacobs Stuns with Star-Studded New Fall Collection at HEAVEN
Heaven by Marc Jacobs has been aware of who its market is and what they want to see in each collection that they drop. From keeping up with sub-cultural trends to using lesser-known artists in their campaign images, Marc understands the interests of the market he is selling to. Though Marc is not the only one to credit for the successful marketing tactics of Heaven, Ava Nirui is the creative for the brand that is under Marc Jacob's brand. The Fall 2022 collection for Heaven saw many celebrities join the campaign imaging including the likes of Pamela Anderson, Charli XCX, and Dev Hynes to name a few.
This star-studded lineup is nothing short of what they are used to putting out with previous campaigns including Sky Ferreira and Nicki Minaj.
This Fall 2022 collection saw the usual spread of baby tees and shirts with the Heaven branding plastered on them. Though I find these items to be a bit repetitive, they seem to be the brand's most popular items with the return of them in each collection that is put out.
The highlight for me though was the pieces adorned with the beautiful artwork of Eri Wakiyama, a smaller artist that has worked with the brand before to put on an exhibit at the brand's Fairfax location. Eri Wakiyama's artwork is something that really suits the Heaven's brand and aesthetic through the visually captivating figures that are drawn in a very gothic esque fashion.
As a consumer of the brand, it makes me happy to see smaller artists get the recognition that they deserve and get a platform for the Heaven brand. Marc Jacobs and his team really knows how to pin point a specific niche group of the internet and capitalize on their interests and wants. This is a thing that I find adds a place for this demographic to find like minded individuals and items and clothing that really speak to them.

What is cottage core?
Cottagecore is an internet aesthetic popularised by adolescents and young adults celebrating an idealized rural life. Traditionally based on a rural English and European life, it was developed throughout the 2010s and was first named cottagecore on Tumblr in 2018. The aesthetic centres on traditional rural clothing, interior design, and crafts such as drawing, baking, and pottery, and is related to similar aesthetic movements such as grandmacore, farmcore, goblincore, and fairycore.
Some sources describe cottagecore as a subculture of Millennials and Generation Z. Economic forces and other challenges facing these young people may be a significant driver of this trend, along with these generations' emphasis on sustainability, and the recent trend to work from home (initially during the COVID-19 pandemic).
The more the 21st century is dominated by smart devices and social media, the more there is a collective longing for the 1990s, the decade that trumpeted the end of the millennium and marked the final gasp of a global culture about to be completely rewired by Big Tech. Everywhere you look, across music, fashion, film, and television, there seems to be a postmodern pining for a less plugged-in era.
Ava Nirui, the art director of Marc Jacobs’s Heaven line, agreed “The younger generation definitely romanticizes a time before the Internet,” she said. “The ’90s were the most ‘advanced’ pre-Web era in terms of culture, which is why it might seem so appealing to those who didn’t experience it.”
