So when that "Avon walks in the pit" scene comes on in season 1, initially I thought its just ok but I only recognised Stringer out of the 3 until Avon meets his nephew, even though we've been shown Avon a lot before it, and I had to rewind. The show delivered the idea of Avon distancing his identity from his operation so well that I didn't even click initially that he walked into the pits in the first place!! When I rewinded, I rewinded again and again because that scene was shot so well and looked so cool, and I was so shocked that he appeared on the grounds, thats how the show wanted it to look. Wanted you to not phathom he'd appear cause of how he works. But he does. And showing how Avon analyses everything its such a cool scene I haven't recovered lol. Watching The Wire for the first time now is a surreal experience.
