Tails has plenty of labs and workshops all over the place, and my headcanon is that he channels his inner fox by connecting them all with secret underground tunnels

this is such a cute idea and then you realise he'd have to tunnel under oceans, and that he could pull that off if he put the effort in, but does he have the time???

he could also get knuckles in on it, and have some bonding by digging together time
