Funky Unfinished Stuff

Heyyyy still working on the haunted house fic, whumptober prompts, and the super secret project 😭 but I feel bad for not posting so have some random (unfinished) things that I've been playing with

Aaron T.'s Spider Bite (because I got a really annoying spider bite 😭)

"Z." Aaron T. whined, "it's not going away."

Aaron Z. opened an eye to observe. He was holding his arm out, pointing at a large bite.

That... he supposed it called for attention. "How long has it been?"

"I don't know, at least since Monday."

He took a closer look, prodding lightly at the red circle around the head of the bite. Aaron T. took in a sharp breath through his teeth.

"Does it hurt?"

"No, but it's really fucking itchy."

He hoisted himself off the couch, still groggy from his pseudo-nap. Aaron T. followed him to the bathroom, sitting on the ledge of the bathtub and watching as he reached below the sink.

"Jesus, do I really need the whole pharmacy?"

"Antihistamine." He put the bottle he'd been looking for in the counter. "To fight the reaction. Anti-itch-"

"Thank God."

"So you don't get it infected, and a bandaid."

He smiled, wide, captivating, and crooked. "You're my favourite person."

Aaron Z. took some of the anti-itch cream on the tips of his fingers, spreading it carefully over the bite and the angry red skin. Aaron T. sighed, tension evaporating from every crease in his face.

"Better?"

"Yeah." His voice was breathy. "Much. Thanks."

He peeled the back off the bandaid. "Good."

"Hey, Aaron?"

"Hm?" He stuck it on carefully, making sure that the bite was fully covered.

"Thanks for always taking care of me."

He gave his hand a squeeze. "Could say the same about you."

"Hey! Let me appreciate you!"

"Here's the antihistamine. Take it."

Aaron T. took the pill from him, and made a face. "Can you kiss it better first?"

"What?"

He held his arm back out again. "Kiss it better."

Aaron Z. huffed, but pressed his lips against the bandaid anyway. Aaron T. laughed.

This Random T. Angst???

Aaron T. stood over the kitchen sink.

It was something he found himself doing on occasion. There was a home in the way his hands dug into the sharp countertop and the way his shoulders hiked up when he locked his elbows.

He was all too aware of the exact place tension lay in neck. It felt almost like a hand, uncomfortable but not tight. His heart beat hard enough for him to feel, matching his quicker than normal inhale and exhales.

What the fuck was wrong with him?

"T.?"

He gripped the counter tighter on impulse, turning fast.

It was Robaire. No biggie. He wore a smile.

"Hey."

Robaire looked from him to the sink, then back to him. "You okay?"

"Yeah, just..." He searched for a word. His toes tapped against the ground. "Spacey."

"Go get some rest."

He would've waved him off, but his hands weren't unclenching, so he opted to face the wall again. "I would, but I've fallen in love with the sink."

"Aaron."

"Shh, dont interrupt, it's almost time to kiss the bride."

"Hey." He approached, lightly putting his hand over Aaron T.'s. "You're okay."

He laughed, letting his eyes unfocus so that the peppered backsplash blurred. His jaw locked shut.

"C'mon," Robaire spoke quietly, "let's sit down."

He nodded. His toes kept tapping.

Robaire took both of his hands, guiding him out of the kitchen and into the living room. He let himself get tugged. He liked that it was gentle this time.

Z. on a ferry

"We're moving!" Taeyoung tugged on Aaron Z.'s shirt. "Look!"

Hesitantly, Aaron Z. joined Taeyoung by the window. The port grew smaller as the ferry trudged along.

Suddenly, he was all too aware that he was on a boat.

"Wow." He could hear his own nerves.

Taeyoung caught his eye. "You okay?"

He shrugged.

Taeyoung wrapped an arm around Aaron Z.'s waist, and hummed. "It's a short ride."

"I know."

"We've got you, Z."

It's was something about the way he said it, the way there wasn't a hint of judgement. He couldn't find it in himself to feel infantilized. It was no different from reminding one of the guys that it was their turn to get groceries.

We've got you, Z.

Yeah. They did.

He smiled.

That was besides the point though. He never expected to meet his older self. He especially never expected to meet his older self in person, standing in their dance studio. All five…

He counted them. One, two, three, four.

“Where’s T.?” He spoke before he’d made it through the door, before the other members had a chance to see who was there, let alone who wasn’t.

“What?” Aaron T. asked, “I’m right here.”

He watched… himself? His older self? He watched older Taeyoung’s shoulders raise just slightly.

Taeyoung took a stride forward, approaching his older self, and asking again. “Where is he?”

“Holy shit!” Aaron T. jogged to stand next to him. “Z., you’re hot!”

He grabbed his arm, feeling rather than hearing the other members file in behind him.

There was no “why is this happening.” There were no words exchanged for a solid few minutes.

They didn’t answer his question. He found himself holding Aaron T. tighter.

Anyways, all of this is to say that I'm still around 😭 I've got two more midterms, but my last really big one is tomorrow, so... I don't know what that means, just know that things are on the way!

Going to tell you about the weirdly decorated house we lived in in Anchorage from the time I was 11-14.

Up until then, we had lived in base housing (which was a whole nother adventure); this was my parents' first time buying a house. Which was incredibly brave of them, especially on a small budget. Anchorage has a substantial number of houses dating from the 1970s (probably due to rebuilding efforts after the 1964 earthquake), and we ended up with one of the most 70s houses of them all.

Features of this establishment included:

Split-level: the upper floor was the main part, and the lower floor was half underground, like a noncommittal basement (Most 1970s Anchorage houses are like this. The lower level windows provide a great view of whenever moose come into your yard and eat out of your flower bed, and yes, that did happen to us.)

Actually a really pretty glass-paned double front door, probably not original to the house

Giant chandelier in the entryway composed of curved plates of smoked glass, plus a mini version in the dining room

Tiled kitchen counters and backsplash in a vivid shade of raspberry, paired with light wood cabinets and a significantly damaged parquet floor

White shower tiles flecked with green, which wasn't bad except the reason for this turned out to be that the bathtub was originally dark avocado green until it had been covered with something that was starting to peel off and reveal the true color

Bright teal carpet in my parents' and sisters' bedrooms

Dark paneling in half the basement family room

In the family room and downstairs bathroom, a stick-on tile floor in a deep red-orange pattern of wavy diamond-like shapes that had been laid mismatched (frustrating to have to look at day in and day out)

Downstairs shower that we couldn't use because there was a giant hole in the ceiling

A complete set of the Encyclopaedia Britannica that the previous owners left behind!

Bright red walls with a giant white "UI" (University of Indiana) in my brother's room, and no closet

Deep indigo walls with yellow and light green trim in my room, with green shag carpet that the people we bought it from replaced before we moved in, thank goodness

Countless plumbing and heating issues that managed to manifest dramatically whenever my dad was deployed

My parents repainted the bedrooms (mine was pink and blue, and my dad added a very nice wood trim around the ledge that ran halfway up the walls), and we really did have a lot of good times in that house. But those color schemes were a hilarious achievement in poor taste!
