In this episode we unveil the bamboo scaffolding that is synonymous with Hong Kong. -Most nations these days use metal scaffolding which are loaded into trucks in stacks.  The problems with metal scaffolding is that it’s heavy, bulky and takes a lot of space. In China, India and primarily Hong Kong bamboo scaffolding is the only type of scaffolding they use. As you can see here, a couple hundred bamboo poles can fit on the back of a single truck. When constructed this will provide a much greater amount of scaffolding per truckload then steel scaffolding. -Bamboo scaffolding is highly popular in asia as it is a renewable resource that grows quickly and is readily available locally. -Bamboo scaffolding is built by tying bamboo poles together with nylon straps -The poles, beams and cross braces can be used for up to 7 years at which point they’ll be used as walkboards which are the horizontal beams workers stand on. After they are deemed not safe as walkboards they’ll be used as firewood on site -Steel scaffolding has locks and pins which secures the connection where bamboo does not -A bamboo connection is simply tied with nylon which isn’t as secure -the walkboards on steel scaffolding is all securely fastened where the bamboo ones just lay on top unfastened. -with bamboo poles it’s not possible to tell how old they are and when they need to be replaced. -This problem could be alleviated by date stamping the poles but I’m guessing these guys who build these bamboo scaffoldings are so experienced with how the poles feel, they can probably tell when it’s time to recycle a pole. -there are a few major differences between the 2 types of scaffolding, first bamboo poles weigh ½ as much as the steel ones and second steel scaffolding can take days or weeks to construct where bamboo scaffolding can’t be built within a day or a few days depending on the size of the building. -different sources online have stated that bamboo scaffolding has withstood strong winds and just flexed in place where metal scaffold was fallen apart damaging the structure it was built around. -When it comes to very tall buildings bamboo scaffolding higher than 15 meters or 45 feet needs to be designed by a design engineer who specializes in bamboo scaffolding. -While it might seem unbelievable, towers in hong kong that are 70 stories tall get wrapped with bamboo scaffolding. -The only major downside to bamboo scaffolding, and the rest you don’t see it being used in other parts of the world like north america is that is looks very precarious and dangerous. -as of 2013 there are 1751 registered bamboo scaffolders and around 200 bamboo scaffolding companies in Hong Kong -data collected over 5 years shows that a total of 16 people died by falling from the scaffolding, 9 of those 16 being scaffold builders. -The bamboo scaffolder is becoming a dying profession in Hong Kong for obvious reasons but the situation is further worsened by the fact that wild bamboo groves are being clearcut for expanding Chinese cities which will raise the price of bamboo that is needed for this business...

Some facts about bamboo:
1.Fast Growth: Bamboo is the fastest-growing plant in the world. It has been recorded at growing 47.6 inches in 24 hours. Some species can even grow over a meter per day under optimal conditions. A new bamboo shoot reaches its full height in less than a year.
2. Oxygen Release: A grove of bamboo releases 35% more oxygen than any other tree out there.
3. Carbon Dioxide Absorption: Bamboo absorbs carbon dioxide at a rate of 17 tons per hectare every year. It can act as a valuable carbon sink given how fast the plant grows.
4. No Fertilizer Required: Bamboo doesn’t need fertilizer to grow. It can self-mulch by dropping its leaves and use the nutrients to grow.
5. Drought Resistance: Bamboos are drought-tolerant plants. They can grow in the desert.
6. Wood Replacement: Bamboos can be harvested in 3-5 years compared to the 20-30 years of most softwood trees.
7. Building Material: Bamboo is incredibly strong and sturdy. It has been used as support for concrete as well as scaffolding, bridges, and houses.
8. Soil Stability: Bamboo has a wide network of underground roots and rhizomes that prevent soil erosion.
9. Natural Air Conditioner: Bamboo cools the air surrounding it by up to 8 degrees in the summer.
10. Invasiveness: Some species of bamboo, especially ‘running’ bamboos, can be invasive due to their extensive root systems, which allow them to spread rapidly. However, not all species are invasive, and with proper management, the environmental impact can be minimized.

okay q!pol lore
was living on the island at least 20 years ago
worked for the federation back then to direct & produce videos- he made that iconic commercial of quesadilla island! :0
the federation froze him for some reason
got unfrozen 20 years later
now he’s just been vibing and building an epic movie studio for the past weeks
put bamboo and scaffolding on spawn to be a little silly which accidentally contributed to a man’s insanity
cucurucho brought him for a chat in his old house/studio because the federation wants his collaboration to work on more videos again!

Highlights of Etho's Episode 5 for me:
- Hypno grabbing Etho's "lifetime supply of shulkers" pass and saying "You know what? I'm out of here" before logging out, leaving Etho standing there laughing and crying
- Cleo getting very close to Etho and asking if he just gave up his firstborn child for that pass. Clocker family drama in the house tonight.
- Etho sabotaging Bdubs' scaffolding every time he tries to pillar and Bdubs wailing that all his bamboo shop marketing is based on his ability to quickly stack. rude.

Scar Out of Context Episode 6:
"I take great pleasure in watching them burn to death."
"I took off my armor so you can make quick work of me."
"Why is it... throbbing?"
"Hey, maybe there used to be a clown or two on it, I can't be sure, because I didn't run it back then!"
"This is a great Canadian invention... well done, you've made the Canadian lands proud."
"It's the bamboo man's fault... someone who uses scaffolding."
"Did I just spawn into a war??"
"I am loving the little darker– You've got to be freaking kidding me! Another patrol?!"
"Yeah, you do your thing you bunch of losers, see ya later, suckers!"
"So you could trade these, you could steal these– no, just kidding, but wouldn't that be funny?"
"There could be twelve Hermits selling terracotta and all the chaos that could ensue!"
"You want some more Doc? Look at that! Yeaaah look at those calves!"
"What I've received is both coarse and irritating... and gets in everything."

Unlocked: YAZ YAY DAY
The sugary peachy taste still lingered in the back of her tongue as she looked over the treehouse 'project'. Or better her sketch refined so over and over with the same almost drying pen that it was near illegible. The cracking sound of the support pilon begged for their attention. Like the missing planks on the first floor or the need to find a way to bring materials up more efficently.
There was so much to do. And they were short on arms today. Darius gave her the supervisor role as he and Brooklynn left to find useful stuff at the zipline and Kenji was just standing around, moving a broken piece of wood with his foot from time to time.
The only one working was actually Sammy of course, moving mountains of debris on her own.
Using a branch as a crutch she limped over to them
'Are we gonna so something for that crying pole or not. I don't want the floor to fall on me while I rest after all this hard work'
'Maybe don't rest under the unstable flooring' she replied to the rich boy.
'She got a point!' Sammy said, looking at a broken beam to see if there where any nails they could use.
'Well. Okay yeah, sure, whatever. But we can't finish the flooring if that thing keeps breaking down. Or bring stuff up. Useless if we finish all the house and then can't use it cause it can't bear weight' kenji rolled his eyes, kicking another plank.
With a sigh she had to admit, kenji was right -ew-.
'Fine. Let's think of a way to stabilize that.' She scanned what they had to work with
Broken wood pieces, some bamboo sticks, dinosaur bones, some spare elastic bandage.
