The black bulge over my Topeak barbag is a four litre Ortlieb waterbag, filled at a spring before heading for the summit. With a QR webbing handle at each end, you can rig it securely round the stem/bar and lower headtube, allowing you to carry enough for an overnight stay into a dry camp. I cut my cables and brake hoses slightly longer than standard to facilitate this. I wouldn't want to ride all day with that weight forward of the bars, but it's fine on the last leg into a bivi site.
