Char Kukri Mukri is a wildlife sanctuary located at the mouth of the Meghna River in Bangladesh. It is formed by the accumulation of silt caused by the overflowing Meghna. The island is also known as the dream island. Our Nonggor Travel Express Group embarked on a long-awaited camping trip to Char Kukri Mukri with members Tareq Bhai, Russell, and Sifat. Raj, Himel, Anik Bhai from Nikunja, and Suez Bhai from Tangail also joined. After a train breakdown, we reached Kamalapur and then Sadarghat. Despite delays, we finally reached the Sadarghat launch terminal around 9 pm due to a political meeting and traffic. Ganer Ashor on Ship’s Deck We missed the Bhola ship, so we chose the luxurious Ship Manami in Barisal as per Himel's suggestion. Moonlit music by Russell and Himel on board captivated us. Rain disrupted sleep. We arrived at Barisal launch ghat the next morning. From Launch Ghat, a speedboat took us to Bhola. We proceeded to Kacchapiya Ghat via bus and auto-rickshaw. After lunch, a scenic speedboat journey led us through mangroves to Char Kukri Mukri Bazar, then to Narikel Bagan. Rain accompanied our walk, guided by Tareq Bhai and Sifat. A local guide helped us near the sea, as Cyclone "Bulbul" surprised us amidst the rain. Beauty of Fishery Ghat Our guide arranged a stay at a charming wooden house by the ghat. We eagerly awaited a meal cooked by our guide and later ventured out to eat. Back at the house, we enjoyed the rainy night from the balcony, watching Hilsa trawlers. Amid deviations from our plan, the captivating rainy atmosphere enthralled us. Anik Bhai, somewhat anxious, monitored the weather as the storm intensified. The Meteorological Department's danger signal rose unexpectedly, alarming us. As the storm grew stronger, the wooden floor shook, and the emergency signal reached its peak. Amid this, we occasionally heard Nupur's sound from downstairs – a dancer's rhythm. The mystery baffled us. Deciding to leave for Dhaka the next morning, we discovered the truth behind the mysterious Nupur. Throughout the night, a frightened goat ran around due to the storm, inadvertently creating the sound we mistook for Nupur's dance. This revelation amused and surprised us, ending the enigma. Today we're off to Darashbari Mosque - the largest Mosque on the Bangladesh side of Partition's Craziest Border town Amidst bucolic mango groves, scarlet krishnachura blossom and ponds of clustered water lillies, stands the terracotta town of Gaur The word 'Bongo' had long been used to refer to the small region around modern Barisal, but in 13th century Gaur, the Ilyas Shahi Dynasty proclaimed themselves Sultans of Bengal, and all their subjects 'Bengali'. By 1500, the Sultanate capital of Gaur was the fifth most populous city on the planet, with canals, palaces, roads, bridges and over 200,000 residents.This was the city where Bengali identity first crystallised. Gaur was eventually sacked by Sher Shah Suri, but it remained one of the most iconic and popular tourist sites in India until 1947, when it simply fell off the map In June of that year it was announced that Bengal and Punjab would be partitioned between a Hindu-majority India, and a Muslim-majority Pakistan. But Gaur was pretty evenly divided between Hindus and Muslims. A study has identified 25 high-risk areas in Dhaka due to the heat wave due to the hot weather. Researchers have named these areas ‘Hit Island’.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, the German Red Cross and the Bangladesh Meteorological Department jointly conducted a similar study entitled ‘Feasibility Study on Heat Wave in Dhaka’. The research report was published last September.

The heat wave is increasing and expanding

Meteorologist Abdul Mannan said that ‘heat wave’ occurs more in April-July. There is a similar trend in September-October.

Even at the end of September, the temperature in many places in the north is close to 36 degrees Celsius.

Mannan said, “We are seeing a gradual increase in the risk of lightning in recent times, along with the trend of hit web. The last two years have seen quite a bit in July. The time-space change is that in the last few years in the pre-monsoon period, the hit web has not dominated so much. There have been several hit waves this year, especially from the last week of March to May. Four of them were very strong, with long periods.

He said densely populated areas of major cities of the country including Dhaka are slowly becoming prone to ‘hit web’.

Mannan said, “Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi – these city areas are slowly becoming more and more risky. Among the places where there was no heat wave was Sylhet. Due to heavy rainfall and local weather conditions, the hit web could not be seen. In an analysis, I saw that the trend of hit web in Sylhet region is increasing every year. The hit webs that happened this year too, all of them were up to Sylhet. Earlier it was not evident in Chittagong region. This year it was extended not only to Sitakunda but also to Rangamati; It has risen to 39.3 degrees. “

Mohammad Shahjahan Saju, assistant director of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and project co-ordinator of Forecast Based Action, said that they have tried to create a ‘hit island’ in Dhaka using GIS software.

“This research has been done experimentally in Dhaka. The ‘hit islands’ of the metropolis have been identified in the trend of rising temperature in Dhaka. ”

Two crore people living in Dhaka city has increased the tendency of heat flow in densely populated areas, big buildings, lots of cars, many factories.

Experts are seeing the trend of heat wave in Dhaka in recent years due to unbearable heat. The average maximum temperature in the heat islands ranges from 29 C to 34.5 সেল C. In these densely populated areas the heat then goes to the stage of heat flow.

For three days in a row and only if there is high temperature over a wide area then it is called heat flow. If the mercury in the thermometer rises to 36 to 38 degrees Celsius, meteorologists call it a mild heat flux. When the temperature rises to 36 to 40 degrees Celsius, it is called moderate heat flow. And when the temperature exceeds 40 degrees, he is caught in an intense heat wave.

Shahjahan Saju said, “Usually the temperature is reasonable up to 36 degrees Celsius , above which it becomes unbearable. We recommend taking ‘Early Actions’ if the temperature is 36 degrees Celsius. ”

Senior meteorologist at the Meteorological Department. Abdul Mannan said, the temperature is rising all over the world, Bangladesh is also rising. Due to this ‘heat wave condition’ is also increasing.

According to him, the trend of heat wave in Dhaka city will continue. At the same time some areas, where the heat wave will go beyond tolerance. Where there are tall buildings, factories or densely populated areas.

Mannan said, “Khulna, Barisal and Rajshahi – these city areas are also slowly becoming more and more vulnerable to heat wave conditions.”

Shahjahan Saju said, “I have done piloting this year. Now it needs to be done on a larger scale. There are plans for this. ”

How hot it is

On April 24, Jessore recorded the highest temperature of 41.2 degrees Celsius this year. The maximum temperature in Dhaka rose to 39.5 degrees Celsius.

>> In the second half of April, the maximum temperature in most parts of the country was between 38 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius.

>> In the month of April, Netrokona, Madan, Khaliajuri, Kendua, Kishoreganj’s Nikli, Karimganj, Sadar area and many other villages were hit by ‘Hitshak’.

>> In the second week of May, the highest temperature of the country was recorded in Jessore at 39 degrees Celsius. The temperature in Dhaka was 35.6 degrees Celsius.

>> In 2014, Chuadanga recorded a temperature of 42 degrees Celsius. In the same year, the maximum temperature in Dhaka also rose to 40 degrees.

>> In the last two decades, the highest temperature in Bangladesh was 42.2 degrees Celsius in Jessore. Earlier, in 1995, the maximum temperature rose to 43 degrees Celsius.

>> After independence, on May 17, 1972, the maximum temperature in Rajshahi was recorded at 45.1 degrees Celsius.
