It'd be interesting to see his reaction to a love letter, honestly, I think it's a good opportunity to explore some aspects of his character. To be honest, though I think he'd just be very excited about the letter and start hunting down he gave it to him.

now correct me if i missed anything but, we don't end up seeing who gave Barkimedes that letter! so i don't think it's too weird to assume it might be from someone outside the school. from... the human realm perhaps?! Buddy. im talking about Buddy.

Managed to catch the "Humans in High School" episode of Monster High, and... it's giving me thoughts about Manny that are a little difficult to parse through.

So, the thing with G3 Manny's character is that he was specifically designed to not play into stereotypes:

This seems to extend beyond his size (which is very nice seeing a large character who's neither a bully nor stupid), but to his sexuality as well: he's consistently portrayed as being very shy, makes high-pitched whining and squeeing sounds, and is very much into theatre/drama ("Flaunt Your Skeleton" & especially "Humans in High School"), despite being romantically interested in a girl.

This is a nice move in the grand scheme of things, I think. It's important to show the young boys that might be watching this show that having these interests and behaving this way doesn't mean you're gay, and that it's perfectly acceptable to behave this way.

But on a very personal & heavily biased note, I just find it mildly frustrating that Manny is being given all of these behaviors that are so classically used ad nauseum for queer and queer-coded characters in pop culture but isn't so much as said to be bisexual.

I fully recognize that my personal preferences don't necessarily make for a progressive & important lesson for children, this is by no means a critique of the show for handling Manny this way.

I just wish Manny was gay in my own gay little heart. But who knows - maybe Barkimedes & Buddy will be gay? Maybe Romulus' repressed passion for theatre ("The Babysitter's Crypt") will take him in that direction?

(side note, I was under the impression that Romulus & who I assume was his father back in the old Were Council photo would be a bigger antagonistic presence who'd be all about toxic masculinity & misogyny, and maybe Romulus would grow past that - but if both his parents went to a Broadway show, that doesn't seem likely. Ah well. The Were-Beasts are set to have more conflict this season, but Romulus & his father having interpersonal conflict like this would be way too similar to Toralei & Catarina, so I suppose they wouldn't reuse that plotline again)

im genuinely so hexcited for the barkimedes this season. shea posting the secret admirer thing has literally got me speculating all night. it's GOT to be buddy right??? no way it isn't. i love love love barkimedes so much!! great new character.

they’re written in such a gay way but not like “these scenes could be taken as gay” they’re written in a “i won’t be surprised if either 1. by the end of g3 they are confirmed dating or 2. post g3 10 year time skip one of the writers will just be “oh yeah they were DEFINITELY gay”
