One of the burdens of being smack in the middle of the Millennial generation and being from the Dallas, Texas area is that the likelihood that I have encountered someone who acted on Barney and Friends or Barney and the Backyard Gang is probably higher than average. I cannot imagine most of those kids kept acting (yes, I know about Demi and Selena and Debby; they are anomalies), so they’re probably lurking around my city, just being adults and going about their lives. Michael is an attorney in Fort Worth. You can’t tell me the others aren’t, like, my roofer or an HR specialist at my company. There have been hundreds of actors on Barney over the years. Surely I’ve met one of them, but due to not knowing their real names and my inability to recognize faces in general, I will never know for sure.

The rain then stops, and then they sing "The Green Grass Grows All Around" and meet a cute little bird. He then cheers the kids up with "If All the Raindrops", and then they all join in. The kids want the rain to go away, but Barney seems to be enjoying it as he dances around. Then they all decide to play baseball while singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game", but just then, it starts to rain, ending the game. BJ zooms in on his scooter to join the party, and sings his very own song. Then Barney and his friends sing "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain" before Baby Bop comes in and says "Toot, toot!" Just then, they all hear someone whistling a tune. The Winkster then says "Time for me to go bye-bye! But I'll be back!" and speeds away, the kids remark him as silly. But the Winkster is too fast, and they can't catch him.Įveryone plays baseball on stage at Radio City Music Hall. Just then, the Winkster shows up and the gang starts chasing him. Then, Barney tells the audience to point and shout "There he is!" whenever they see the Winkster. Fortunately, the audience agrees to help. So Barney asks the audience if they can help them. Barney and his friends are going to need lots of help to catch the Winkster. But before they are able to share it, a new visitor, The Winkster, sneaks away with the bag! After the Winkster introduces himself through song, Barney, Baby Bop, and the kids catch him with the bag, and then give chase. After that, Baby Bop sings "My Yellow Blankey" before the kids get an idea to make something for the audience: a special surprise! They all work together to make their special surprise for the audience using items from "The Barney Bag". Then, Baby Bop takes out her blankey before the kids surprise her. It turns out to be Baby Bop riding her tricycle to join Barney and the kids! She admits that there are a lot of friends in the audience (and that there are much more than 10). Then, Barney and the kids play "Ring Around the Rosie", before they hear the sound of a tricycle bell. The curtain opens to reveal a playground with a slide, a sandbox, a swingset, and a clubhouse. Then, Barney decides to head with the kids to the backyard to go and play. Knickerbocker".īarney and Baby Bop listen to what the kids are making in the clubhouse. He then introduces Kathy, Julie, Derek, Carlos, Kelly, Tosha, Min, and Shawn, before they all encourage the audience to get up and dance to "Mr. Then, after greeting the audience, Barney sings "The More We Get Together" before thanking the audience for coming to play. Then, Barney arrives, much to the audience's delight. Barney's theme song then starts playing as a white smoke cloud appears on stage. The announcer tells the audience to imagine, and announces Barney again. Then, a kid explains over the loudspeaker that the only way to make Barney appear is to use your imagination. 3:45 AM trivia about Barney

Did you know?  Some of the well known original cast of Barney and Friends weren’t even part of the show early on.

The show began as “Barney and the Backyard Gang” with the original cast of Michael, Amy, Tina, Lucy, and Adam.  The first three episodes had a kid named Jason, who didn’t appear in episodes afterwards, and a kid named Jeffrey appeared in only one episode, “Campfire Sing-Along”, replacing Adam.  Derek was introduced in the episode “waiting for santa” and had just moved to town.

Barney had a live show called “Barney in Concert” which was filmed at the Majestic Theater in Dallas, TX.  In the show, the character of Baby Bop was introduced, appearing as the cast sang “hey Mister Knickerbocker”, which helped her overcome her shyness.  She then performed a solo dance to some hip hop that contained her signature giggle.  The concert is canon to the series, because it was directly mentioned in “Rock with barney” by Tina, who says to “do that song we did in our concert”.

Barney was originally a dark purple color rather close to indigo and was rather square in appearance with a much deeper voice.  He was changed to a lighter shade and his features made more round, with his voice raised in pitch slightly to sound more joyful.

Barney’s costume was originally worn by David Voss, and had left for the military after a few episodes.  He was replaced by David Joyner who, prior to the audition, had a dream about Barney being passed out.  This was because David Voss wasn’t very animated, and had minimal, if not stiff motion.  While on the way to the audition, Joyner saw a billboard saing to “Breathe life into your vacation”.  Joyner took this as his inspiration for acting as Barney, and made his performance as animated and energetic as possible, leading to the Barney personality we currently know.  Joyner ended up playing Barney’s costume role through season 6.

The dinosaurs have confirmed ages.  Barney is 2 dinosaur years old, which is 200 million human years.  Baby Bop is just 2 years old (she turned 3 in “Look at me! i’m 3!”), and BJ is 7 years old.  Despite being Baby Bop’s older brother, He’s a protoceratops, while Baby Bop is a triceratops.  This could possibly mean Baby Bop was adopted by a protoceratops family.  BJ was added because they wanted to have a sibling dynamic on the show, because Barney and Baby Bop are simply friends.

Baby Bop and Barney grew up to become part of the band Hevisaurus, becoming Milli Pilli and Herra, respectively.  (lol kidding)

Baby Bop originally spoke in third person and her jaw wouldn’t move.  This was changed in later seasons to make her seem more alive.
