You have a lot of really cool stories where the Nephlin have their own culture and courting rituals, but what about Warlocks?
i have so many thoughts about this and i do have some meta written about warlock customs and cultures because i have... basically a field index i'm trying to wrk on in my spare time.
one thing that i headcanon across my universes is that the consorts of powerful warlocks boost and aid warlocks in their power, contrl and spells based on the bonds between them. so depending on what the warlock and consort/s want is how the rituals are picked.
spoils of war
i hope you enjoy!
-
Magnus stares across the gathering, counting the many kings and High Warlocks and Elders who have gathered here to witness his bonding.
Nearly none were at his wedding — Magnus’ mentally sneers at the word — and that was by design. Why waste the time of the downworlds most powerful for what everyone knew the nephilim considered a farce.
Normally this kind of bonding takes months to plan to advance — but Magnus knows that if he waited the amount of time it would normally take — that Alexander will only drift further away.
That is something that Magnus cannot afford, not now while he ties up the last of his deals on earth and in this realm.
Around them every warlock who has a consort has brought them along, a sign of respect that Magnus demands of them and that they obey. Magnus ordered them to bring their consorts at witnesses, something that is rarely done and even more rarely obeyed as there is no true magick that will force a warlock to bring their consort.
This however, is different.
Magnus is the reason why their consorts will now have more safety and it is why they listen.
Why they honor Magnus and his own bonding.
Still, not a single consorts face is uncovered.
For all they respect him and each other, the personal intimacy of a consort is something most warlocks are loathe to share and Magnus — despite being a king of hell — is truly no different in that aspect.
The Council of Elders gathers and Ragnor and Cat stand tall and alone, but side by side. Neither are interested in the bonds required of a consort and three other unbonded Elders join them as witnesses.
Only half of the kings have consorts and less than a third of the High Warlocks are bonded.
It means that the majority of the warlocks gathered will be witnesses, but there is enough bonding magic already gathered that Magnus knows he can do what he wants.
The types of rituals used depend on the depth of the bond being forged and Magnus knows what he wants from this bonding.
It means using not one of the oldest rituals, but one of the rarest due to the complexity of the rituals nature, the power it takes, and the rarity of the ingredients.
In the Labyrinth, Magnus descends the stairs, guiding Alexander down with a steady hand and magic that won’t allow his boy to trip.
No one can see Alexander’s gorgeous hazel eyes, or the way they often gleam with hesitant curiosity and wary intrigue. No one will see the uncertainty Magnus is sure is in his gaze. Or the evidence of how he hasn’t yet given himself over fully, not yet gifting Magnus with his trust and devotion rather than just his submission and obedience.
Alexander is magnificent and the mask only gives him more presence, the wings of the True Nephilim frame him as he walks and while his steps are confident and graceful, Magnus knows the tremors of his heart.
The array on the floor was painted with the mixed blood of both demons and angels and then coated with a seal made from the ash of nephilim wings and the tears of a siren.
The power and magic that has been singing in the array arches almost eagerly towards them and Magnus can feels Alexander’s shudder as it twines around him.
There is hushed, awed murmur when the ritual he’s picked is recognized. Magnus can feel both the surprise and the respect and also the confusion at his choice.
For tonight, Magnus will tie Alexander to him in the most intimate of ways so that Alexander understands that Magnus will not let even the thought of him go. For they will be tied together, even in their dreams and Magnus lets the silk made from his magic gleam with his power, forcing the others to avert their eyes as he kisses Alexander.
Magnus cuts his lip and then Alexander’s, using the stele that Jem had personally gifted him and that he’s yet to try on his consort.
With magic shielding them, he lets Alexander’s robe open and sears the demonic sigil of his house and name in a rune over his consort’s heart.
Magic captures Alexander’s whine of confused pain and Magnus steals his own name from a bleeding, beautiful mouth.
“Alexander.” Magnus croons and then he sighs, letting the robes settle back into place and the protection of his magic dissipates now that none can see Alexander.
It’s a pity that Magnus had to adhere to the standards of nephilim at their political ceremony, but that won’t be a problem going forward.
The small shard of Magnus’ soul that he carefully harvested is in the form of a little pearl and Magnus summons it, holding it out expectantly. Alexander hesitates for only a breathe and then he obediently opens his mouth.
Magnus pets over his tongue for a moment, spreading magick that Alexander’s whimpers at and then he smirks as every warlock and consort in attendance begin to hum.
The vibrations of magick continue throughout the entire chamber until the very walls are reverberating and Magnus’ own magic sings in his body as Alexander’s body accepts Magnus’ soul.

Oct 24 Bissex and Manyak
Julia Del Vecchio– Readerly Exploration #5
Main Idea:
Bissex–  Teachers should aim to understand the depth of children's understanding and the huge task that writing is in order to be more aware of how they learn and tailor our instruction to their needs and allow them to guide their own learning.
Manyak– Because of the importance of phonemes in children's acquisition and understanding of the alphabet, teachers must teach phonemic awareness effectively. This article explains that research shows effective phonemic instruction involves “a variety of activities combining phoneme segmenting and blending with letter–sound instruction” (Manyak, 2008).
Nuggets:
Bissex– I really enjoyed learning about how children’s environments are saturated with language rules. Bissex defines instruction as explicit teaching, availability of information in the children's environment, and presence of reasons for them to engage in it. Both speaking using language and writing are very available in children's environments through adults who communicate and talk and everyday items which have meaning conveying writing. They both also have reasons to be engaged in, such as when a child wants more food or needs to do basic things like use the bathroom. They can use writing and reading to explain things that they are referencing or their drawings. This knowledge provides children with a basic system that is consistently revised and updated in their little minds. I never thought about how looking at a toothpaste tube showed us so much as children.
Manyak– I loved the research based activities provided for phonemic awareness in this article! I specifically enjoyed reading about the Say-it-and-move-it activity. I love that this involves some movement and kinesthetics as that is often an overlooked type of learning or just simply hard to integrate into classroom instruction. I like this too because it can be done as a whole group, small group, or individual activity. In my field placement, I have not seen anything like this done, but I can imagine how excited my mentor teacher might be to try it out. The kindergarteners I am with are just learning letter names and sounds so this will be beneficial now as Manyak explains.
Readerly habit: Engage in the reading process to increase the likelihood of text comprehension (pre-reading, reading, responding, exploring, applying)
Exploration: Before you read, learn something about the author(s) of the assigned course reading(s) and note how what you learned impacts your motivation and/or your purpose for reading.
Reflection of Readerly Exploration:
Glenda L. Bissex is the author of “Watching Young Writers.” Upon researching more about her, I found that she’s the author of around 2 or 3 books. One of which is her most popular, called “Gnys at Wrk: A Child Learns to Read and Write.” This book is about her son's journey learning to read and write and according to it includes the first in-depth case study of a child’s confrontation with written language. It reveals much about how the child's mind works in this regard. Much of her writing has to do with research. Based on the description of this work of hers, it seems as though this author is very passionate about the subject of reading and writing development. Her research is fueled by a genuine interest and care for appropriate instruction which satisfies the developmental needs of children. After reading the article by Bissex, I understood a lot about her descriptions and investment in the children's drawings that she used in the article, and I appreciated her conclusion even more because I could sense that her love for her son was also how she felt about the kids that she teaches.
Patrick C. Manyak is the author of “Phonemes in Use: Multiple Activities for a Critical Process.” Upon researching more about him, I found that he has a PhD, and is currently teaching fifth grade students, and has written many works about literacy and enhancing vocabulary instruction (similarly to Bissex). He also does a lot of work with English Language learners so I wondered if he would say much about ELLs in his article about activities. After reading the article, I feel that my initial research on who Manyak is/Manyaks passions for teaching fifth graders and ELL students helped me to more deeply understood the activities he presented. He did a fantastic job of backing them with research but also just explaining how they might be presented and work in a classroom because he is a teacher himself, hands on and in the thick of the scene daily. I love this perspective and his contribution to

This is the layers type menu for typefaces I was talking about before. You can select certain places in this wall of text and make a new layer out of it, this layer also wrks as a preset, so if you select a new piece of text on that layer and chose to apply the applications you've made to the other text onto the new stuff, it will do so automatically and save you having to go through 30 different settings to get it the same as the other stuff.
The example of this within this image is that of the bold text and the thin text. The bold text is on the "heading" layer as it defines it as a title / header. If I were to select a new piece of text from the rest of the [basic paragraph] and then select "heading" it would be changed to a bold text automatically.
Fuck this program, respectfully.
