detailed descriptions + other things linking characters together that arent covered by the Image:
marvin dresses like shit but there's Some cohesion there keeping it together. his family shares his warm colors; mendel uses his browns a little differently, and whizzer doesn't share his pallete at all
trina's favorite color is pink :) there are literal articles of clothing that are tied on her, one is red for marvin and the other is green for mendel. as the story goes on she would probably swap this and have a green tichel instead
trinamarvin have similar shades of pants/skirt, and jason has the mix of their yellow and red as an orange on his arms. travel travel travel from side to side!!!
^ on this note jason has things from his 4 parents and theyre all strangely layered all together
ie both him and whizzer have white over the rest of their clothes
whizdel and whizzvin are the only combinations which don't share at least one color, but:
whizdel have light/dark blue contrast and complementing red-green
whizzvin blue yellow contrast babyyyyyyy yeaaaahh boyyyyy!!!!!!!!! they wont agree
whizzer's got the most unique color palette also the least direct connections to everyone else: only trina, who wears a tichel paralleling his ascot and ties them back to marvin, and jason
trinamarvin's shoes are the same, each their corresponding hair color; mendel wears something most similar to marvin's shoes but he gets silly with it; whizzer gets to have shoes that stand more. he's cool; jason's got sneakers! and theyre whizzer colored because whizzer has his own whole deal with running
^ jason trina and whizzer all have red around their necks; mendel also very specifically doesnt have it
mendel and jason Dont have belts or anything resembling ones. this was deliberate but honestly theres not meaning to it

so high rn so sorry if this doesn’t make any sense i’m just so emotional about josh and annaleigh and this production so i’m gonna ramble a bit about what i love about it and them. ok. enjoy.
the thing about sweeney todd is that it’s mean. it’s a mean show. it ends on the cruel irony of 2 officers bursting in on toby slitting sweeney’s throat, surrounded by 2 other bodies and one in the oven; on johanna watching her father die holding her mother and not even knowing it. everyone is an abuser or abused, and there is no hope or redemption to be found. and it fucking rules! it just rules. it’s so fun to indulge in our basest pleasures for nearly 3 hours, delicately served to us by one of the greatest composers who’s ever lived.
and every major production takes the bile and cruelty inherent to the material and runs away with it. like- just look at this swedish production from 2006, directed by vernon mound. or the last time it was on broadway, directed by john doyle:

productions tend go smaller and nastier, more intimate, in keeping with the spirit of how sondheim originally conceived the piece. (side note: i LOVE when they do that. my ideal sweeney has buckets of blood and visera right in your face)
the original production of sweeney was MASSIVE, but that came from hal prince. hal couldn’t really get an emotional foothold on the material until he found within sweeney an extended metaphor for capitalism and the industrial revolution; people literally eating people and the machine of capitalism grinding everyone up. revivals also tend to seize on the brechtian class elements, like this absolutely gorgeous korean production from 2019 directed by eric schaeffer:

sondheim, meanwhile, always objected to readings of sweeney as brechtian- it was all a farce to him, just a good, nasty time at the theatre. he approached it as a horror fan who wanted to write some fucked up stuff, which is maybe now some of the best art is created. but hal made it into epic theatre.
(if u don’t know what epic theatre is or what brechtian means google will explain it better to u than my ridiculously stoned ass can rn but im just focusing on one aspect of it rn: the distancing effect. basically, emotionally distancing the audience from the characters and the material so that everyone is engaging with the work on an intellectual level as opposed to an emotional one)
obc sweeney is an alienating show. it’s so fun and brutal and deeply felt, but these characters are grotesque. they’re cartoonish in their cruelty. just look at their makeup! john doyle also embraces the distancing effect; his revival is actor-muso, so we’re pretty aware at all times we’re watching a show. it’s all so cold, and the only warmth to be found is in the humor. and it rules. it’s nasty. i love it. this is the show i fell in love with.

all these things have become inherent to sweeney over time, all teased out of the greatest broadway show to ever exist; visceral horror, cruelty, coldness, and class commentary.
but this revival is just.. it’s warm! it’s lush! it’s romantic! and i don’t mean that in the sense of lovett and sweeney (tho this is the warmest they’ve ever been towards each other in any major production i’ve seen). i mean that it gestures at and plays with romanticism.
my biggest critique of this production is, in doing away with the brechtian elements (sondheim just cheered), it also does away with overt class commentary. it’s all still there in the text- turpin is a corrupt judge, beadle is effectively a sheriff, sweeney and lovett are working class, the beggar woman is homeless- but as a director tommy kail seems… uninterested in any biting political commentary, to put it generously lmfao. and i hate so much how little of it there is to be found in this revival, bc you can still Do It without invoking brecht. but i’ve long made my peace with that. i wanna talk about what i love.
and what i really love and what kept me returning to it (beyond the fact that it’s sondheim, and it’s sweeney, and josh groban is so stupid fucking hot) is how human everyone is. the entire production, from the ground up, is built around taking these characters and their pain seriously.
the ensemble all have incredibly period accurate costumes, unique to each character they’ve crafted (fun fact even the swings have their own unique costume that’s only seen when they perform). gone is toby as a mentally disabled man child with an oedipal fixation on lovett. in gaten’s hands he’s a young teenager, aging out of being a cute urchin and just looking for a mother. in daniel’s hands he’s beaten down young man with a limp and a genuine love for lovett.
ruthie’s beggar woman has developed DID after a brutal rape and the trauma of institutionalization and homelessness. she’s not played for laughs, even if sometimes the audience chuckles, and she makes u feel guilty if you ever did laugh at her situation. daniel yearwood leans so far into anthony as a sweet guy completely unaware of the story he’s actually in to the point of comedy. maria is just a revelation as johanna, all nerve and tension and bloody nails from years of self-harm. it’s easy to lean into johanna as a princess track, but ~crazy~. and maria plays jo as mentally ill and traumatized from years of incesteous abuse, but it’s not a pastiche or a praody of it. jo feels human in a way i’ve never seen her depicted before. i love it. maria bilbao u have my heart forever for this.
and then josh and annaleigh…. ugh!!! annaleigh really captures the avarice at the heart of lovett, but still brings in enough genuine moments of humanity and compassion that you find yourself (like sweeney and toby) endeared to her. lovett is always cruel and can only love through manipulation, but annaleigh’s lovett is a woman who makes small concessions. bit by bit, piece by piece, she erodes whatever goodness she had inside her until nothing but her desire for sweeney is left. she’s a woman who’s used seduction to get her way, and it’s easy to envision that when lucy returned from turpin’s, she shamed her for “giving it away” without getting benjamin back. she’s a monster! and yet, when she dreams of a better life, you feel it. when she holds toby in her arms and cried at her perfect little life unraveling, you feel it. annaleigh makes you laugh so hard she gets under your skin and stays there, exactly how lovett seduces sweeney in ALP. and there it is- identification! the complete opposite of alienation. we’re in it with them.
and then there’s josh and his sweeney… i really feel like his sweeney is undervalued. annaleigh steals the show. she won the drama desk for a reason. it’s a legendary performance. but josh…. man. i just. i keep returning to josh’s open wound of a sweeney over and over again. i think he’s probably had this take bouncing around in his head for years. they smartly leaned away from sweeney as this embodiment of rage and physical menace, which surprised a lot of people. but instead leaned into sweeney’s grief in a way i haven’t seen any major production do. josh’s sweeney feels like a man who was put on this earth to be a father and a husband. there’s a buried sweetness to him and you can still see benjamin barker in him until the very end. i keep calling him “kendall roy sweeney” bc it’s the closest way i can covey to other ppl what josh is doing here. he’s all big sad eyes and suicidal ideation, tragedy and twitchy hands. he’s so deeply pathetic he just endears himself to you. i want sweeney to succeed more than ever before. even though he spends all of act 2 killing people and being a shit father and thus killing benjamin barker, i still find myself wanting him and lovett to get away with it. and when the reveal comes, and even worse the betrayal hits- that this woman who he let into his life and body and who, in some odd way, became a friend, lied to him this entire time- it hits like never before for me.
i just love it all so much. i’m so happy it exists, so happy this revival does something so new! sondheim has said sweeney todd is a show about obsession, and it is. this revival supposes: what is the difference between love and obsession? what if the two look the same?
i think often of this quote from luca guadagnino’s suspiria (a masterpiece btw): “Love and manipulation, they share houses very often. They are frequent bedfellows.”
to me, that’s this revival in a nutshell- the thin line between love and obsession, and all the blood spilled in between.

i hate tycoons so much now nobody does it for the love of the game anymore its all "buy my super insane mega billion upgrader (permanent!!!!) for 400 robux that we spawn under you after like every purchase" like they think im ever playing their game again in order to use the permanent part. i hate all the shit they put on the sides of your screen too like the uncloseable robux shops that are only there so that kids playing on mobile accidentally buy them when they try to move or jump. it just makes me sad
state of the game is basically the worst its ever been, genuinely think gamepasses were a mistake. it's just depressing how it seems like every game's either pushing really hard to squeeze as much money as they can from you, whether that's in the form of the super aggressive pushing like you described, or by adding microtransactions to games that, genuinely do not need them.

you can buy a quarter million jailbreak dollars for like, all your obc robux for a month. (or about 24 dollars). worst trade ive ever seen. it's not like jailbreak money's hard to come by. of course, most people wouldn't buy it, but you don't really need 'most people' to, in a system like this. just get one guy whaling for jailbreak and you're getting mad money for like 0 effort. it's really kind of upsetting.
i don't think a game should ask you for money inside the game, in general. let me unlock the stuff you're hiding behind [200 robux] by just grinding out for like hours, if you're gonna have stuff locked. do some more mewtwo shit to me, save me the money.

Hi, I mostly follow you for your tbhk content, but was meaning to ask what is your favourite version/which version do you recommend of les miserables(the musical)? I'm quite a new fan of musicals and I've always wanted to see it, but didn't know which slime tutorial of them. Ofc there are differences, but idk how important and I guess I trust your tastes if you'd like to share your favourite version (if you even have one). Ty in advance
OMG my first Les Mis ask ahhhhh yay!!!!
Unfortunately I’ve never watched any slime tutorials for Les Mis so my advice here probably won’t be that helpful. I saw it live when they were touring in 2019 and the cast was incredible but I haven’t been able to find a bootleg for that version. I have listened to multiple versions of the soundtrack and the OBC remains my favorite bcuz I’m basic. There was a really cool French version of it tho, you should be able to find it on YouTube just by searching up “Les Mis in French.” And I know there’s a slime tutorial with Ramin Karimloo, he’s one of my favorite Broadway actors so I’m sure that will be good. I think it’s the version where he plays Valjean, he was Enjolras at one point too
The 10th Anniversary Concert is famous in the fandom so I have to recommend that as well, it’s got an excellent cast and some of my favorite performances although I’ve never watched it in full (she said about the musical that changed her life). I hope this was of some help to you, sorry I couldn’t give more specific suggestions!!

obc chess game breakdown (?)
well, welcome to the breakdown of the falsettos obc chess game that absolutely no one asked for but i think i'm onto something !!
ALSO, i know nothing about chess so if nothing makes sense that's why :-)
SO !! a little fact that is far from my interpretation is that chess is used for many things in the musical like a metaphor for love, another metaphor but for Marvin and Whizzer's relationship, normal chess, and so on but for now i'll be focusing mostly on it being normal chess and a bit on Marvin and Whizzer's relationship so bare with me because this is going to be chaotic
even though it's technically the same musical, the obc and the 2016 revival are two completely different things, and a very good way to compare them is the chess game
(and in case anyone actually reads this, none of this means that one version is better than the other, i just want to point out the differences because i have free will and too much free time, i adore both versions, this is just me infodumping)
first, the revival
for the 2016 version, (specifically for the chess game) they lean a bit more on the looks of it, sort of trying to match the same minimalistic vibe that the cube gives (shoutout to the Rockwell Group because i adore their stage design but moving on...)
for instance, they simplify the actual game to more of a choreography:
Whizzer begins with the white, holding the king but not actually moving anything, and after Marvin insists he moves the pawn in h2 to h4
Marvin mirrors his move with his own pawn, moving h7 to h5

after that, Whizzer takes the queen and leaves it in the middle of the board, not really playing anymore, and after that they just move everything around, Whizzer takes Marvin's king and the "game" is over

OH but for the obc... that's when stuff gets a bit more interesting, because they're actually playing
this time Marvin begins with the white pieces and by the time they begin to sing he already moved the pawn in e2 to e4
Whizzer responds by tidying his side of the board for a little while, before being pressured by Marvin to move, so he moves the horse from b8 to c6

Whizzer doesn't seem to pleased with his move, so they re-start
he flips the board so now he has the white pieces and it's his turn to begin
Marvin tells him exactly what to do, and he moves the same pawn Marvin moved as HIS first move

Marvin responds by moving the pawn directly in front of that one (e7 to e5)
the next move is Marvin telling Whizzer to move the bishop on f1 to c4
after that they just move random pieces and whizzer "wins"

so, i was thinking, and the 3 moves they actually make can be found in a very basic strategy called "scholar's mate", being, according to google, one of the first checkmates people learn when playing chess
so, why do I think this justifies my rant?
well, for many things, but for my and everyone else's sake i'll just say 2 of them
1. the fact that Marvin was using this strategy and recycled it for Whizzer when they changed the board, for me, represents that part of Marvin that swears he's smarter than he actually is-
-because if he was as smart as he thinks, why would he be using such a basic strategy? and why was he instructing Whizzer... to win?
because the way he is directing the game would mean that, eventually, Whizzer would win even if they hadn't given up
but also, the fact that Marvin kept directing the white pieces like he would win by doing that makes sense
the obc makes a clear comparison with marvin and the white pieces (specially the king) more than once
Marvin is all about control, power, being "the man" in his relationships, that's represented with the white pieces, with him making his first move before the song has even started
so when Whizzer flips the board, takes control, doesn't allow himself to be controlled by Marvin, he doesn't know what to do
he keeps playing like he normally would, keeps controlling, not realizing that this will end better for Whizzer than him
but that said, moving on to thing 2
2. their relationship during the first act was always destined to fail, and the way i see it, it's marvin's fault 
we already established that Whizzer would win anyway, either because Marvin (initially) agreed to let him win or because of the strategy they were following, so that said, Marvin would've been pissed anyway
if he controls Whizzer but it turns out better for him then it's Whizzer's fault, but if Whizzer decides to take action and not let himself be controlled by Marvin, then it's also Whizzer's fault
it was destined to end they way it did, it doesn't matter what Whizzer did, Marvin would've never been happy, and if Marvin isn’t happy, no one else can be
SO WE REACHED THE END !!

What is your job called? The one where you travel with stuff on the plane? (So that i can look up openings)
Onboard Courier (OBC). It's really just a side hustle but it's fun(ish). You basically just need a strong passport, access to an airport, flexibility and spontaneity. You can register with a provider like time:matters (operated by Lufthansa) and they check your documents and send you requests if they need someone in your area. You have to be pretty quick to accept it (hence spontaneity and flexibility) and so far I only managed to land 2 missions but that's okay because I'm not dependent on it.
It sounds so insane but it is often cheaper for big companies to fly someone halfway across the world with a repair part or important document than it is to mail it or pay cargo fees.

He is so funny in this, especially as Prince Herbert and not-dead-yet Fred. Being ragdolled and shaken around by the king as Prince Herbert or insulting Sir Robin with his tambourine as a minstrel
Legally Blonde (OBC) - Emmett Forrest
I know this is one of his most iconic roles but Emmett deserves more love literally the sweetest character and CBorle played as him so well. His "little miss woods comma Elle" AH and the little things that makes Emmett RAHHHHH
Some Like it Hot (OBC) - Joe/Josephine/Kip
Did you know that he does most of this show IN HEELS. Not only that, TAP DANCING IN HEELS like are you kidding. He also wrote some lines for the show! I love the whole show in general, it is so funny and so real in how they talk about identity and how you present yourself. I can write a whole essay but that'll be for another day. I love this show with all my heart
Little Shop of Horrors (2019 off-bway revival) - Orin/others
Speaking of heels, he too was in heels for this production, but much much less than SLiH. Still, the talent is there. Especially when he plays all the different characters, from a crazy dentist like Orin to Skip Snip. He is also super unhinged and likes to drag out his death as Orin to make the audience laugh. I recommend watching the tiny desk concert first if you are not familiar
Thoroughly Modern Millie (Replacement) - Jimmy Smith
There's not much for this show, just a video of him singing What do I need with love. I liked his singing in this and the small details he does during this song to show that Jimmy has fallen for Millie is cute
Mary Poppins (Replacement) - Bert
He may claim that he was the worst tap dancing Bert but he was still a champ for learning all that choreo and even going upside down in step in time. Another one with crumbs :" Gosh what I would give for a boot cuz rn its just the disney on Bway videos and jolly holiday. He did it with Laura Michelle Kelly :)
Me and My Girl (New York City Centre) - Bill Snibson
He did this show with Laura Michelle Kelly too :))) AND THE SHOW IS SO FUNNY it's so underrated and has very funny lines. Someone said that it was basically 2 hours of CBorle being silly. I also love his and Laura Michelle Kelly's dynamics as Bill and Sally. Speaking of this couple, Bill and Sally are literally as healthy as Emmett and Elle and i love that for them
Peter and the Starcatcher (OBC) - Blackstache
Literally my favourite show of his. His blackstache is so animated and silly I love him. And his agility sliding over the trunk and running around. His moments in Mermaid Outta Me ༼⁠;⁠´⁠༎ຶ⁠ ⁠۝ ⁠༎ຶ⁠༽ silly lil guy. Similarly to Orin, he likes to drag out his hand pain to make the audience laugh. AND HIS CURLS omg this era of CBorle hair is the best imo. And he won his first tony for it! That goes to show something about his portrayal of Captain Hook and how it needs more love !!!!!
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (OBC) - Willy Wonka
A lot of people seem to see this role as the role he went bald for. We joke about Borled Egg a lot but he brought such beautiful unhingeness to this role that really brought out the joy of this show.
Footloose (The Muny) - Director
He also directs! Though there is no boot for this production, he talks about his experience directing and working on the show in some interviews and a reunion zoom call. The cast talks about how he allows them to be free in their portrayal of the characters while giving advice and proper directions, especially since he was in Footloose for tour and bway. I would have loved to watch it since footloose is a show I like too. NaTasha Yvette Williams is also in this!
Anyway, he has done a lot more shows, he's been in the industry for nearly 30 years so he has a lot under his belt and I wish he wasn't just reduced to Vox's VA, Marvin or Shakespeare. He's a brilliant actor with impeccable comedic timing and seriousness. He's not a two-time Tony award winner for nothing!

In December of 2023 I saw:

In September of 2024 I saw:
-The outsiders (three times)
-Water for elephants 
-The notebook
Basically whenever im lucky enough to go to New York I just see as many shows as humanly possible- thank you rushhhh

You just got a kind of shitty old car and it doesn’t have Bluetooth. You can only buy 7 CDs and you can’t repeat an artist. What are you getting?
this is a stupid question because i had a car w/o bluetooth for years and have a pretty solid CD collection already bc i’m insane and love physical media
it’s also a stupid question bc i grew up burning my own cd mixes through itunes like a real 00s kid. but if i had to pick real albums and not terrifying amalgamations of my own creation, maybe the following:
of the blue color of the sky — ok go | actually this is the greatest album of all time and i don’t take criticism
imaginaerum — nightwish | it’s a hot take for this to be my favorite nightwish album but i have so many memories of this one and “song of myself” is literally so?????? transcendent
stop making sense — talking heads | one of the other albums ever. i have the original print LP of this, but it doesn’t have all the songs. the spotify version has more songs than the LP and i’d assume the cd would too
pacific overtures — original broadway cast | it was between this and the passion obc and the company obc but… man��� pacific overtures is my brand and my one true musical love as the show that was basically factory engineered for my tastes and interests
evanescence — evanescence | it was so hard to choose between this one and synthesis but the self titled album has “oceans” and “swimming home” which are peak!!! my hot take is that fallen is overrated. don’t get me wrong, i love fallen. but i love the self titled album more
starpeggio — midnight grand orchestra | this is more of an EP than a full album but i could not go around without some inotaku in my life. that guy is my favorite living composer now that sondheim is gone
tick, tick… boom! — original off broadway cast | it was difficult to decide what to put here but then i realized i needed to include something with raul esparza. and this is def my fav thing. other contenders were rocky horror (2001) or taboo (2004) but hey

Halloween at Camp
(basically just drabbles of how I think the camp/companions would celebrate). Tav/Astarion/Halsin centric romance wise
Halsin? Oh Halsin would make a grand feast for everyone. A lot of seasonal foods, kind of like a Thanksgiving meal but a little less focus on having very specific items and using things he spent the day (or past few) collecting/hunting. I imagine it's a tradition often celebrated in the grove so he was more than eager to celebrate it at camp. He would also, ofc, make sure to give the safe bones to Scratch and the OBC, perhaps even going out as a bear and getting more than a few salmon for OBC. He's more than eager for everyone to feast and eat their share when dinner time comes around. When everyone gathers for scary stories at the campfire, I imagine if Tav and/or Astarion get scared or creeped out they would scoot a little closer to him, perhaps hold his hand tight, or find great comfort overall if he puts his arms around them to keep them close.
Karlach would /love/ Halloween. She would dress up using whatever was laying around or she could get for dirt cheap in the city- I imagine she'd be fond of bedsheet ghosts and would have holes for her horns to stick out. She'd collect up some pumpkins or turnips for everyone to carve- and between her, Wyll, Gale, Shadowheart and Tav, they have more than a few pumpkins to put up around camp. I imagine Halsin also collects all the pumpkin seeds for roasting for a snack for later.
Wyll never really seemed like he got to dress up as a kid- son of nobility, Halloween was probably more a poor man's holiday when it came to dressing up. Through encouragement Karlach probably helps him dress up, even if it Is just some silly clown makeup or something small along those lines. He, however, along with Gale and Shadowheart, probably also read a lot, and knows more than his fair share of spooky stories for them to tell around the campfire late at night.
Lae'zel? Like a lot of things on the material plane she would be a little confused at this holiday tradition. Why would you waste time on indulging in scary things when the group faces more than enough scary things on the daily basis? Then again, I think Lae'zel sees the appeal of carving pumpkins, and would join in on that. She'd probably also enjoy the scary stories, even if she didn't initially join everyone around the fire at first.
Shadowheart is very fond of Halloween. I think she'd be the one who'd have a tarot deck and would have fun doing spreads for everyone. She probably doesn't dress up but she is all too eager to join everyone at the fire for stories. Has quite a good few monster stories that leave more than a few folks with chills.
Gale is the type to delight in reading spooky books during Halloween. He'd be the type to brew a good cup of tea, snuggle up in his tent for a majority of the day to read something like Frankenstein's Monster (the DBD equivalent obvi). Later in the day he would probably emerge to help Halsin cook, or even focus on making Halloween themed treats- hell he'd probably be the one to focus on making a nice pumpkin centric treat, like pumpkin bread or pie. He'd also have a good few creature feature stories to tell.
Astarion? Halloween has probably changed a lot since he was young, and I imagine Cazador would only let him and the other spawn out to focus on the plenty of drunkards out partying back to the residence. So Astarion doesn't seem too keen to join in on the festivities. Be probably spends a lot of time drinking wine, maybe with Gale, and reading a good book. Perhaps he joins Gale in reading a spooky book (or the same one, sitting close and comfy). I imagine Halsin has also collected a good variety of animal blood for Astarion to dine on come dinner time, but he, along with Tav, offer up their necks for him to comfortably dine on. He's a little hesitant to join everyone at the campfire for stories or having his tarot read, but after hearing the first story he reluctantly strolls over to join everyone, taking a seat between Halsin and Minsc.
Minsc? Oh Minsc's home probably has a similar tradition as Halsin, and he is more than eager to help in hunting. Though he spends the past few days hunting a specific boar and bringing it back to camp. He prepares it by hand, preparing a ton of meat to be dried as pemmican or jerky to last then for weeks to come. Jaheira more than likely lends a hand in this too, making sure to collect goodberries and other edible berries for the pemmican preparation. Jaheira probably keeps the tusks to make something out of at another date.
Jaheira more than likely just helps out around camp, though she also joins in on pumpkin carving. I imagine amongst her family back home she usually does so. Out of everyone she probably has the best, most practiced carving, and more than likely does a cat face, or perhaps takes inspiration from Scratch or OBC and carves them instead.

it’s funny how “Wonderful” can be a frankly skippable song on the Wicked OBC but it’s basically the thesis of the musical. Here we are, dispensing with the horrors of what’s happened before to see the hero back to grace. But if you’re a return viewer, you don’t even have that hope. You know it’s coming from a villain, and in a moment you’ll see proof of his evil again, just before the heroes burst in to free our lead actress— and we’re back to black and white. And those are the labels which persist. And the moral ambiguity don’t exist.
