Color me amazed. Today, about a minute after this picture was taken, Tala and her quick thinking saved me from falling backwards onto bare rock. We have been working counterbalancing and bracing behaviors for absolutely no more than 2 weeks, and I haven't even STARTED teaching her the when/where/why aspect of it. Today we did a couple reps where I leaned on her shoulders and rewarded her, and then I "okay"d her (her cue to run around and do dog stuff) and 2 seconds later coming down the cliff, I slipped. My right leg started to slide, she reeled back and ran the roughly 4 meters she'd put between us, leaned behind me on that side and gave me her shoulder. I would have absolutely eaten it if she hadn't done that. She got so many treats for this. As for me, I'm just sitting at home again, stunned, grateful that my ass is in one piece. Grateful that my dog knows what her job is without me even telling her. I wouldn't believe it if it hadn't happened to me and I'm still having a "pinch me" moment.
