If you’re referring to The Irish Yank Foundation run in Monaghan 🇮🇪 on New Year’s Day this year, she was photographed with the same brother, but posted no photos herself.

Does she “avoid” talking about her husband? Or does she talk minimally about him?

In May 2016, on SiriusXM, Caitríona said, “Some things are just for me.” For the most part, her family/personal life is one of those things.

However… she does talk about/mention her husband more often than his critics think. 😉 And, for anyone who is counting, we’ve now heard her say “Tony” four times. 😂 Here’s a wee sampling, 24 examples, of husband/Tony talk, from September 2017, to April 2025:

Buckle in, anon. We’re going deep diving into news articles from 2016-2017.

Obligatory disclaimer that much of this is speculation and cannot be conclusively confirmed. I’ll make my case and you are welcome to agree, disagree, and/or make corrections!

I also must acknowledge the debt I owe to @anonymoushouseplantfan, whose blog archives I’ve spent way too much time reading, and who thoroughly cataloged the news stories breaking throughout the early days of Harry and Meghan’s relationship.

And with that out of the way—let’s rewind to late 2016, when the world learns Pippa Middleton’s wedding date.

In October 2016, an anonymous source confirmed to People magazine that Pippa Middleton, younger sister of the then-Duchess of Cambridge and a celebrity by virtue of her royal connection, was engaged and planning to marry in May 2017. No further details were released until December 8, 2016, when US Weekly revealed Pippa would marry at St Mark’s Englefield on 20 May 2017, along with Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s roles as page boy and flower girl, respectively.

You can skip this bit if you’re American and already know it—there are a couple different ranks of celebrity coverage in the US. The major, highly reputable outlets include Vogue, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, and Rolling Stone. Less prestigious but reputable outlets include Town and Country, People, Hello!, Elle, and Glamour. US Weekly is a tier below those. They report on celebrities, but aren’t known for getting exclusives or major interviews. Needless to say, it’s weird that they got the scoop on Pippa’s wedding date and venue rather than a major outlet… or a British outlet known for royal or aristocratic scoops like Tatler, the Sun, or the Daily Mail.

This is extra weird because the author of the US Weekly article, Khalea Underwood, didn’t cover royalty. The info on Pippa’s wedding is the only royal or aristocratic article I’ve found by her. She wrote a lot about the Kardashian-Jenner clan and pop stars like Rihanna and Taylor Swift at this time. She’s not an obvious choice to give this info to. This would be like someone sending me hot wrestling gossip because I’ve reblogged some posts related to Dimension 20, a tabletop role-playing show which recently had a season starring some wrestlers. It doesn’t make a ton of sense.

If I was a royal insider and was going to chat with a US Weekly reporter, I’d have talked to their royal editor with several recent exclusive stories: Omid Scobie. In October 2016, he’d talked about Prince Harry seemingly flirting with an Olympian at a Buckingham Palace reception… followed by stories in early November 2016 about how Prince Harry’s secret visit to Toronto proved he was in a serious relationship with the little-known actress Meghan Markle, Meghan’s introduction to then-Prince Charles at Harry’s birthday party two months earlier, and a mid-November 2016 story about Harry introducing his girlfriend to Prince William. With the exception of the story about Harry flirting with the Olympic athlete, all of Scobie’s exclusive stories from this time period focused on Meghan.

Now, it is possible that Khalea Underwood got one hell of a scoop. Stranger things have happened. But it sure is interesting that her newspaper and her colleague were getting tons of major exclusives about Prince Harry’s girlfriend and then received reliable info about the most anticipated society wedding of 2017… especially after the initial engagement and wedding scoop went to People, a bigger and more reputable outlet.

Also of note: Omid Scobie co-wrote the book Finding Freedom, which told the story of Harry and Meghan’s courtship and marriage, culminating in their 2020 announcement that they would step away from royal life. One year later, Meghan admitted in a court of law that she collaborated with Scobie on the book.

I personally find it hard to believe that Meghan started providing information to Omid Scobie in 2019-2020 rather than in 2016, when he published several exclusive stories about her. And it is extremely difficult for me to believe that a reporter from a newspaper that didn’t get big royal scoops until Meghan came onto the scene happened across major details about Pippa’s wedding of their own accord. The evidence suggests Meghan provided information about the wedding to an outlet she was already regularly speaking with, just a different reporter than usual.

As for Meghan shoving her way into Pippa’s wedding: for two months prior to the big day, multiple outlets reported that Pippa had instituted a “no ring, no bring” policy—meaning that only engaged or married guests could bring their partner. This led to enormous speculation about three girlfriends: Vogue Williams (who was dating Spencer Matthews, Pippa’s brother-in-law), Donna Air (James Middleton’s on-again off-again girlfriend), and Meghan Markle (no explanation needed). On 7 May 2017, The Telegraph reported that Meghan was an exception to the rule and invited to both the wedding and the reception. Notably, this came a month after People reported Meghan would attend the reception but not the wedding ceremony.

If you’re hosting the society wedding of the year, your royal relatives will be attending, and you’re not inviting your soon-to-be brother-in-law’s girlfriend because their relationship is too new, why on earth would you invite one guest’s girlfriend of ten months?

(Side note: in retrospect, it is bonkers how many articles about Pippa’s wedding include speculation about Harry and Meghan getting married! They’d only been dating since July 2016 and most people didn’t know they were dating until Harry issued a public statement that November! Meghan had been a royal girlfriend for ten months and a widely-known royal girlfriend for merely six months when Pippa got married. She’d been in that social sphere for the blink of an eye.)

Ultimately, Meghan only attended Pippa’s reception—but even that is a huge concession, as noted above. There was no real reason for Pippa, as William’s sister-in-law, to invite Harry’s new girlfriend to any part of her wedding. Especially as the press coverage of Pippa’s wedding very quickly morphed into engagement speculation for Harry and Meghan! Finding Freedom—the book Meghan confessed to collaborating with—confirmed that Pippa only reluctantly invited Meghan to wedding events. That's the closest we'll get to confirmation from Meghan herself that Pippa didn't want her at the wedding but invited her anyway.

Cupidz (Korean: 큐피즈 주; Japanese: キューピッツ ), is a South Korean girl group formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2018. They terminated their contracts with Pledis Entertainment on July 21, 2024, and later was announced that they had signed to Massive E&C. The group consists of seven members: Yeona, Kyungjoo, Kumiko, Sun Yoon, Doyun, Yuri, and Haeun. Cupidz debuted on February 14, 2018, with the title song "LOVE BOMB" from their first mini album of the same name, LOVE BOMB.

┃NAME

Member Haeun stated in an interview with Harper's Bazaar, "Our name, Cupidz, represents how we feel towards a certain person of interest. Our storyline is based off of having your first crush and feeling like Cupid when you see your crush. I think it's simple, but cute."

┃HISTORY

2011-2018: Pre-debut activities

Park Yeo Na joined Pledis in 2011, being the first member to join the company. She starred in the web-drama Love High as Song Hye-Kyo in 2015. She was also seen frequently alongside SEVENTEEN before their initial debut in 2015.

Heo Kyung Joo joined the company in 2015, and had no public activities prior to the announcement of Cupidz's debut.

Hino Kumiko trained under DSP Media for only two years, having joined in 2014 and leaving in 2016. She joined Pledis Entertainment later that year in 2016. She often posted dance videos on Instagram while she was a trainee.

Beon Eun-hee (known by her stage name Sun Yoon) was a CUBE Ent. trainee from 2015 to 2017 and left the company the same year due to artistical differences with the company. She later auditioned for Pledis within the same year and her first audition was rejected. She auditioned once again in 2017 and was accepted.

Lee Do-yun was a well known trainee as her singing videos would often go viral. She joined Pledis in 2016 and trained for only a year and 7 months.

Yamaguchi Yuri and Geun Ha Eun were both completely hidden trainees. Yuri joined Pledis in 2015 and Haeun joined in 2017. Neither of them had been shown to the public on any official Pledis accounts so fans were excited for the mysterious trainees.

2017-2018: Preparation & Debut

Despite Pledis' girl group Pristin recently debuting, Pledis made the decision to begin working on yet another girl group, Cupidz. They evaluated over 30 trainees in September of 2017 which included Park Yeo Na, Beon Eun-hee, Lee Do-yun, and Yamaguchi Yuri. They all were chosen for the official lineup, following the addition of trainees Heo Kyung Joo, Hino Kumiko, and Geun Ha Eun. Pledis felt that the lineup of girls was enough to begin working on the group.

Pledis had hinted at a new girl group in December of 2017. Little had still been known about who the members were and when the group was set to have their debut. In January of 2018 Pledis officially announced the group's name 'Cupidz' and all 7 members. They stated the group would be debuted the following month of February.

They made their official debut on February 14, 2018 with the title song "LOVE BOMB" including their mini album of the same name "LOVE BOMB".

2018-present: New agency

After near 6 and a half years of promoting under Pledis Entertainment, the company announced that both the company and Cupidz had come to a collective agreement to terminate their contracts. On August 11, 2024, Massive E&C had released a statement announcing that Cupidz would be joining their company to further manage the careers of the girls as a group and individually.

What advice do you have for someone hoping to start making money with art? I'm new to everything so building an audience and engaging with them feels like me shooting in the dark, let alone getting them to request commissions or join a Patreon!

Hi there!

I think you have the biggest part of it already figured out tbh. If you're aiming for it to be a side hustle kind of thing, then building an audience is definitely one of the best ways to go about it if you wanna stick to online. The way it's been for me, it's all been through fandoms and niche art. I drew a ton of fanart for Shadowhunters back in 2017, but it wasn't until I got into making fanart for Attack on Titan (mostly merfolk AU stuff) in 2018 that I really became more "visible" as an artist. Back in 2017 I had some commissioners, but from 2018 onwards is how I truly became a full time artist.

There's people who have the fortune of making it big with their own original art from the very beginning, and that's wonderful. But it's not something I can give you advice on, because I haven't figured that out myself, and it's not how I got here either. I know it's possible, however, so that's definitely always an option too.

As frustrating as it is, I think there's no real way around it. You need an audience who's interested in what you have to share, and a lot of it can become making art that caters to what your audience is interested in. So be very careful with how you go about it. I'd say just draw what YOU like, what YOU want to see. Most likely, there are others out there who want to see the same thing too. Algorithms online make it harder for people to find you, and it's very tiresome to adapt to them, but there's no way around it except keep pushing, keep trying, follow other artists, make friends with them. Comment on art, share art, join discord servers, talk with people. Interaction will take you a long way in this circle!

If you're not afraid of taking your art outside of the online market, there's always conventions, exhibitions and bazaars/markets in most cities, where you can take prints, stickers and other merch with your creations. They also work wonderfully as contact makers. You'll get to meet other artists in your area, and they can help spread word about your work, and you can do the same for them, aside from directly putting your work literally out there for people to see.

If you want advice on how to become a professional artist, getting studio jobs and such, I'm definitely not the right person to ask. I have no experience on that other than applying and getting rejected or "saved for later". Not that I've tried much tbh, I've been ok enough with freelance work.

I've worked mostly on commissions for individuals who just want a specific piece of their favorite character, and I've also worked on commissions for self publishing authors and one major awarded, published author in my country as well. All of it, just because I started an askblog about Merman!Levi when I was bored, depressed, and going through Big Shit irl. So an art journey can have many crazy looks.

I'm not sure how helpful this will be, because I'm honestly not the best example of How To become An Artist. I've had so many ups and downs, currently going through a major down. And the only thing consistent about my journey, is that I haven't given up. So I guess that has to mean something, as cheesy as it may sound.

“I can only sit still for about six to eight weeks at a time,” said writer and literary critic Caroline Eden. An avid adventurer with a taste for local cuisine, Caroline is best known for her books Samarkand, Black Sea,and Red Sands, which blend travel writing and recipes from Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and beyond.

I happened to catch her at home, fresh off a trip through Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine that provided ample material for her recently launched newsletter, Journeys Beyond Borders. In Ukraine, she traveled south to Odesa to revisit the people and places she encountered in 2016–2017 when researching Black Sea. An updated edition of the book came out last November, which includes a new introduction reflecting on Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, a fascinating essay about eating lunch on the Bosphorus with Turkish ship spotter Yörük Işık, and, of course, an extra recipe.

Upon returning to Odesa in February, Caroline found that two years of all-out war had transformed the city deeply, though not beyond recognition. Retracing her steps, she visited the famous Pryvoz Market, where she met food vendors struggling to keep their businesses afloat in wartime. A couple of the restaurants Caroline had written about in her book had closed. And the locals she spoke to seemed worried about global attention shifting away from Ukraine. “I immediately noticed that there weren’t very many young people around because either they’ve left or they’re fighting, and the people who were there just looked exhausted,” she said.

Caroline said the mood in Odesa lifted around Valentine’s Day, though only briefly. “Every other person on the street was carrying a bouquet of flowers,” she recalled. “The hotel I always stay in went full-on for Valentine’s and had petals and hearts scattered [everywhere], confetti on the floor, and a full booking for the night. But the following morning, at 4:00 a.m., we were in the bomb shelter because the air raid sirens were going off.” (Russia’s missile and drone strikes on Odesa would only intensify in the weeks that followed.)

Once home from her travels, Caroline set about recording the audiobook for her forthcoming memoir, Cold Kitchen: A Year of Culinary Journeys, which will be released in the United Kingdom on May 9 (the U.S. edition hits stores in January 2025). Over the course of 12 chapters, each with a recipe at the end, Caroline takes readers inside her subterranean Edinburgh kitchen as she prepares dishes that evoke memories of different places that have influenced her thinking, work, and life. “It’s quite a meandering book,” she told me. “But the idea is that you can travel very well in the kitchen, with some imagination.”

A trip to the Dordoi Bazaar

Kyrgyzstan might be landlocked, but Bishkek, the country’s capital, has a market forged entirely from shipping containers. Dordoi Bazaar is made up of thousands of these steel boxes covering the equivalent of 160 rugby fields. Flipped on their sides and doubled up, they make efficient shops, rigged with lights and padlocked securely at night. Distinct in spirit and commerce, Kyrgyzstan’s biggest bazaar offers particular insights into local trade wars, hospitality, food, and the new Silk Road. Among locals, it is sometimes called the Dordoi Republic.

Dordoi employs 70,000 or so workers, officially and unofficially: drivers, unpackers, cooks, shopkeepers, tea boys, toilet attendants, security guards, waitresses, exchange tellers, and tailors. Pushers and pullers, handlers and dealers. All busy importing, exporting, and re-exporting. What may look anarchic at first is actually a very well-oiled operation. Money dictates order, and the bazaar is far too profitable to be chaotic. Dordoi has its own football (soccer) team and a mosque that is well-attended on Fridays.

Gold-painted statues of a man and two women flank the main entrance, a life-size monument to Central Asia’s “shuttle traders,” entrepreneurs who commute between different countries, buying goods in one location and then selling them elsewhere for profit. Memorialized, too, in gold, are piles of bulging suitcase-sized bags that each statue leans against. These familiar-looking squares of checkered woven plastic with handles are an instantly recognizable universal symbol of people on the move, of the entrepreneur and the newly arrived.

Food also plays a vital role. Inside, on an average day, you’ll see tea ladies weaving and waltzing through the alleys, their trolleys set up with tea, coffee, and condensed milk, pushing deeper into the twisting, gurgling intestines of the bazaar’s ever-hungry belly. Prams operate as moveable cafés, too, with Thermoses filled with tea and blankets swaddling freshly baked samsa and bread. Trolleys of kumys, fermented mare’s milk, go whizzing by, white and splashing. Sometimes a cart, displaying all the ingredients for ashlan-fu (a noodle dish) or a giant mound of plov, topped with quail eggs, is pushed along.

But one of the best places to eat is tucked between the China and Europe zones, where, if you search, you’ll spot a vendor tending to a tiny oven filled with rows of flaky samsa slowly turning ever more golden. Square rather than triangular, and filled with chicken rather than the more typical pumpkin, lamb, or mutton, the cook arranges his samsa in lines so their corners point upwards like a mountain range. Hot and moreish, the baker prepares 200 or so of these over the course of a lunchtime — and it is impossible to pass by without making a purchase.

The recipe below, from Red Sands: Reportage and Recipes Through Central Asia, from Hinterland to Heartland, is a nod to those delicious samsa served at the Dordoi Bazaar.

Grand Asia Express Samsa

Essentially triangular Central Asian turnovers, samsa are eaten everywhere and are typically filled with lamb, potato, or pumpkin. They make for a perfect snack, eaten hot on the spot. Here’s a quick recipe named after the legions of trucks and truckers that arrive and depart from Dordoi Bazaar, picking up a samsa or two for their long border-crossing journeys. The onion seeds make a nice addition, but they are optional.

(Twelve is a great number for a party or gathering but a lot for a small household. You can simply divide all the ingredients in half to make six.)

MAKES 12 LARGE SAMSA

400g/14oz chicken breasts

1 tsp olive oil

Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

2 medium-size potatoes, peeled and roughly chopped

1 medium onion, roughly chopped

1 tsp ground cumin

1 x 500g/1lb 2oz packet of puff pastry

1 egg, beaten, for an egg wash

1 tbsp onion seeds (optional)

Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas mark 4 and prepare a small roasting tin by lining it with tin foil.

Put the chicken breasts in the tin, rub them with olive oil, and season with a pinch of salt and pepper. Roast them in the oven for 25 minutes or until cooked through. Set aside to cool, then roughly chop.

Bring a medium saucepan of salted water to a boil and cook the potatoes for 15 minutes or until soft. Drain and set aside to cool.

Pulse the onion in a food processor until very fine, then add the cooled potatoes, and pulse again. Add the chicken, cumin, a good pinch of salt and pepper, and pulse again to bring the mixture together — you may need to scrape the sides of the bowl down as you go.

On a lightly floured surface, cut the pastry into quarters, then cut each quarter into thirds. Roll out each piece of pastry so that you have 12 rectangles, roughly 17 x 10cm (7 x 4in). Drop 40g/2 tbsp of the mixture onto one end of each rectangle, leaving a border around the edge. Brush the edges of the pastry with a little of the egg, then fold the other half over the top, pressing the edges together to seal well. Repeat with the remaining pastry. Brush the top of each samsa with egg and scatter over the onion seeds, if using. Place the samsas on the tray and bake for around 25–30 minutes until cooked through and completely golden.

Week 9_Photoshoot Research_Shaving/The Innocent

To research the ideas behind my third photoshoot, I looked at the cost of shaving in terms of time, cost and corporate greed. For each competition, I want to play with different costs in the beauty industry.

Shaving cost/time/corporate greed:

The average woman will spend an average of £6,500 ($ 14,598.41 NZD) on shaving, as well as eight weeks of her life removing unwanted hair. As well as the average British woman spends £70,294 ($157,885.60 NZD) on her appearance in her lifetime (Thornhill, 2017) and (Wolstenholme, 2017).

In 1915, Gillette made the first female razor, which invented a problem women were; aware they had. This was due to women beginning to show more skin, and Gillette saw this as a way to make more money. Language was used to make women feel that it was a trend and that it was embarrassing and unhygienic (Komar, 2016).

Innocent, the virgin Archetype:

Traditionally, the virgin archetype is an innocent, sinless maiden who leads a transparent life, free of secrets. A common example could be the Virgin Mary. They are seen as near-perfect and morally better than sexually promiscuous archetypes (Burrows, 2016). However, the virgin is tied to an element of sexuality in her abstaining from it, she is seen as untouched and therefore more desirable (pretty disturbing if you ask me).

The sexualisation of younger girls is a continuous problem in the media and can negatively affect young girls' cognitive functioning and their physical and mental health. In media from TV shows, ads to pornography, there is a rise in sexualising a youthful look (Sheppard, 2022). From a young age, girls are taught to inadvertently objectify themselves by their families and the media.

When I think of the sexualisation of young girls, I think of the movie adaptations of the book Lolita (The book itself, I believe, is calling out the character who sexualised her, while the films seem to intentionally or inadvertently sexualise her). "The Lolita Effect' argues that not only does this create a difficult climate within which to give girls a healthy introduction to sexuality, it also goes some way to normalising the sexual abuse of children (https://www.bbc.com/radio4/womanshour/02/2009_37_thu.shtml)". An example of the sexualisation of a child-like look would be Britney Spears, who wore a Catholic schoolgirl uniform in a music video, while she herself wasn't an adult. The way it was worn was in a more provocative context. At this time, she was marketed as a sex symbol towards young girls (Koeman, 2009).
