The New York Public Library joined forces with libraries across New York City and beyond to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
From its genesis at a house party in the South Bronx in 1973,when DJ Kool Herc switched, repeated, and isolated tracks to create one of the first instances of what became known as hip hop,the genre has grown to become a global phenomenon.
In the 50 years since, hip Hop has impacted and influenced all aspects of culture, from fashion and art to literature and activism.
