#bc of synaptic pruning and all that

do yall think constructs like. age? idk if a secunit has uhhh survived long enough to maybe truly answer that question but maybe a comfortunit has
does the cubicle/repair process like. replace organic tissue with young tissue? match or clone the tissue around it? i’m assuming that there’s some organic tissue, like neuro tissue, they have that is vital to function and not able to be replaced without straight up killing them
#Murderbot#murderbot diaries#the Murderbot diaries#hmm part of me assume that their tissue was artificially aged or something#but actually using baby/toddler neuro tissue would make a lot of sense#bc of synaptic pruning and all that#so if you want your construct to learn as fast as possible then like#quick google search says 2-7 or 4-14 are some of the best age ranges for learning new skills#which I guess one of my headcanons is that Secunits don’t live very long lives#murderbot spent four years watching TV and an unknown amount of time before it was wiped#so it could be as young as five#it isn’t a child obviously but like#I guess I’m considering the potential benefits of giving your contructs very young and flexible neuro tissue for their organic side#actually wait that also might fix something bugging me a bit#bc I know Murderbot got flashes of ganaka pit bc of the organic neuro tissue#and I’ve always been like. why only that?#and my first sad assumption was many ganaka pit was its first ever assignment#but actually if Murderbot was in use for like 3ish years it might also make sense#bc humans don’t encode shit into our memories until around age 3ish either#so maybe ganaka pit was just the equivalent of murderbots first memory#mine is me at age 3 being jumped on my our lab/collie mix in the laundry room#followed rapidly by me at age 3 moving to america the first time and going to the basement to find like a bajillion dead millipedes#just little flashbulb memories with no real memories surrounding them at all#which sounds a bit like what Murderbot describes#hmm maybe I should make these tags their own post or something lmao

11:44 a.m
The cramping stopped, I've had a sandwich with each pill of my antibiotics. I feel like a fat ass.
For all I know it was brief food poisoning. All I know is I'd rather be a fatty for another 5 days than risk having such extremely painful cramping.. I can lose whatever I gain.
I've been getting a slight pulsating above my left ear today. I've also been having some popping in my ears but not a lot.
My tsh being normal is a good thing, it means I can celebrate the weight loss if the scale was correct that is... but I mean inevitably eating another sandwich a day for a week solid will raise the scale. I'd rather that than having that cramping. I feel bad for women who get extreme cramps for their period cause holy fuck it hurts. I will be off the antibiotic by Thursday and be able to go back to my regular diet.
I'm terrified of going to the eye Dr this week it's far away and idk what she's going to do. I'm worried she will want to poke my eyes......... also I'm prob going to have to do a standard eye exam. I'm wondering if my script went up. I can't afford it. Idk if they will do that but I think it's likely.
Idk what to think about these extract white mulberries as I play a game with less dialogue I believe they aren't as powerful.
Then i think about weed for example- a gram of weed has 30% thc in it. When you buy a vape it has let's say 3.5 grams thc extracted into it to make 80% thc in the vape. But the weed and extracts are regulated by the government... but extracts are a thing....
I'm back on the other brand feeling like its ineffective. Idk....
Then I think of synaptic pruning. And it takes years. It happens when children are growing but happens over life too. So Maybe one day my neurons will return to normal but I doubt it.
I took a little more last night to make sure my circadian rhythm is back to 10:30... I hope tonight I fall asleep easily bc otherwise we are smoking weed..... unfortunately... expired vape weed.... that I want nothing to do with.
I'm lonely. I'm playing silent hill and having a red bull day bc I deserve it but I'm sick of being alone and fighting so hard for this life.
I'm trying alternative ways to bypass hdcp but idk if its possible we will see. As I really want to play shattered memories and silent hill 1.
Idk I'm just feeling unfulfilled....
I did sleep well but I always do on more....I had strange dreams. Katie came back to me. She knew I was her soulmate. I kept thinking what if Elise shows up for me I don't think Katie is my soulmate...
In the dream I was taking care of Nala and keeki.
Beyond that 3 girls were in love with me and moved in, I forgot who they were. They stole all my silent hill games. I kept looking for them.
I dream a lot of my car being destroyed. That didn't happen in my dream. But the most valuable things I own are my car and those silent hill games.
When I die my sister will sell those games never having played them. Instead of cherishing them for what they are some of my most sentimental memories. If I was to die, I'd want them buried with me or given to my children and I'd want them passed down the line. In 200 years they'll be worth millions.... rather than the Hundreds they are worth now... and beyond that they are one of the only things that bring me true joy.
I want my car passed down too. But I have no one to give it to that won't sell it.
All I know is I'm sick of living in a virtual world. I want a real life.

kade!!!! more sporelings hcs pls 🙏
hello nia!!
this is definitely not what you asked but i’m just going to use this as an excuse to just talk about their aging bc it's really interesting to me as it’s not like a consistent ratio of sporelings weeks to human years ?? plus the whole accelerated timeline thing makes my child development major brain go brrr (ik, a reveal that has surprised literally no one)
anyways i might go off for a while so I'll drop this :)
how fast are they developing?
okay so I've decided that 1 week real-time is roughly 6 months developmentally. I pulled this figure from the polaroid labeled 2 weeks wherein hazel and rose take their first steps, an event happens on average around 12 months.
when applied loosely, this works to map pictures on the fridges to the developmental ages they are in each picture.
(although i would argue they seem a little younger than 2 1/2 here, but drawing kids' ages accurately is hard so i'll let it slide)
however, this obviously falls apart when as we approach 25 weeks and the girls are clearly supposed to be older than 12.5

^^^^ not 12-year-olds
so what happened?
i've decided after like 15 weeks it picks up and now we're at like 1 week = 1 year, making the girls roughly 18 and 21 there. (also i've head-canoned thorn as 3 human years older bc she looks around 4 when the twins are 1). an accelerating rate of development probably means sad things for their lifespans but shhh
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
what does this mean for their ability to learn things?
literally nothing bc this is fictional and the writers certainly didn't think about it, but i am so now you have to too. :)
okay so the two major things that jump out to me is language acquisition and gross motor skills.
language acquisition:
okay without giving an entire lecture on language and brain development, what's important to know is that in a typical adult, language is lateralized. this means that the areas in our brain that process language are mostly found in the left hemispheric cortex. but in a kid, they are distributed more evenly, and this lateralization occurs in late adolescence. additionally, your brain is constantly going through synaptic pruning, trying to strengthen the pathways you use while getting rid of the ones you don't. so, while babies can hear the difference between all phonemes in any language, you quickly lose the ability to differentiate between the ones you don't.
essentially, it is impossible to learn to speak a language perfectly if you don't start learning it at a young age, and it may be impossible to learn to speak any language at all if you aren't exposed as a child. (this is lenneberg's critical period theory)
tldr: your brain structure moves away from language learning with age
so, the question that haunts me at night is: even if they are damn smart kids, they're not picking up an entire language in the 20 or so weeks they have before their brain structure is too different. (even though they aren't losing too much to synaptic pruning bc they would be actively using it). how the fuck do they know how to talk?
gross motor skills:
ever noticed your kiddo could roll over or take a few steps one day and couldn't the next? this is because even typical babies grow too fast for themselves to keep up with- they have to take a sec to adjust to their new bodies.
how would the sporelings, who are actually growing like inches per day, ever keep up enough that they could master walking and running at such a young age?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
yeah anyways this is Not what you asked for but these are thoughts that i have. i will do a list of cute little things when i'm in the right mindset for that
#sorry this took so long for me to get around to#i have literally no idea what this even is#asks#the sporelings#poison ivy: cycle of life and death#nia tag
