I’m seeing so much of the “dump him” if he didn’t do this for Valentine’s Day or do that. And fair enough, but there are so many men with avoidant attachment styles out there and it’s really a real thing. So, if you want to be with that person and want to make it work you need to understand who they are as people.

People become avoidant because they had high expectations from parents who engulfed them or abandoned them as children. They’re surrounded by people who either have high expectations and constant negativity in their lives that they preempt your wants and needs to be ridiculous. They don’t love extravagant signs of a forced affection so Valentine’s Day for example is a disaster for them.

Their avoidance isn’t about caring it’s more about their internal struggle with intimacy. If you’re in relationship with this type of person don’t make them feel inadequate or criticise them. They’ll show you love and affection in different forms, on days that don’t feel “forced”
